Extra cheese sauce on the side
    Amanda B.

Yes, Arby's still exists in Ottawa! The only one now, though. Not sure how many people actually eat here, but I do hope enough so that it sticks around. People don't generally seem to be fans of Arby's, but I love their beef 'n cheddar and get cravings from time to time. I don't usually spend much time in Kanata, but my husband and I had an appointment in the area and I wasn't shy to share my morning craving. Yea, you read that right - morning. We showed up at 10:15am, just after they opened, to fill my beef 'n cheddar craving (and weren't judged for it!). I made the mistake of ordering the double size, rather than the original. There's definitely more beef, of course, but the meat to cheese ratio was off. So, naturally, I asked for more cheese on the side. There were only two staff, one behind the counter and the cook. The woman at the counter may have been in the washroom or something, but the cook was more than happy to come up front and help me. He gladly gave me a little container of the cheese sauce and it was just what I needed. I added some to my sandwich and also used it to dip my curly fries into. Splitting the fries with my husband was definitely the way to go. The beef 'n cheddar already comes with a bit of "red ranch" (Arby's sauce, as we actually call it) in it, but I always get some more, plus "horsey sauce" (creamy horseradish), on the side. Dipping the curly fries in them makes sense, I just wouldn't order the loaded curly fries - trust me, that is not a food hangover you want. The restaurant seemed cooler in temperature, and the building itself old, but the service was really, really great. They were both very friendly and our meal was made with care, no stingy portions or excess grease. I prefer it over the one in Kingston for sure!

The Nashville hot fish sandwich was pretty darn good. The dishwater coffee filled with a cm of grounds on the bottom was disgusting.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Cute little place in Stittsville…read moreselling tasty soups and sandwiches. The Long Version: I had lunch at Wiches Cauldron recently and it was great. I got the Chicken Sandwich ($15.95). It was sliced real chicken breast meat, mozzarella cheese, mixed greens, cucumbers, picked onions and fig jam. It usually comes with mayo, but I asked them to omit it. All sandwiches come with a mini 4 oz soup. I chose the curried carrot and squash soup. The sandwich was delicious. The bread they use is a Kaiser and it's from Carp Bakery. It was soft and very fresh. I loved that the meat was real chicken and not deli meat. The fig jam was tasty and gave the sandwich a nice sweet taste. The soup was a bit watery, but was full of flavour. It had a strong curry flavour and the coconut milk in it made it a bit creamy. I enjoyed it. Funny story: I ordered the chicken sandwich. They ask your name for the order. The lady who ordered after me also got the chicken sandwich but she asked for no cheese. The cashier announced to the kitchen "no cheese on the chicken sandwich" and the kitchen asked "which order? Jennifer's?" And the cashier said "no, the next one, I haven't punched it in yet." Lol. I chimed in "I love cheese, I definitely want cheese on my sandwich!" The man in the kitchen said "alright, extra cheese for Jennifer!" And the lady after me said "yeah, you can have my cheese." Haha. So I got two slices of cheese in my sandwich. Score! Lol. Everyone working there was super nice and friendly. It's a small place, so the cash and the kitchen are right next to each other. I took my order to go, but there's seating to dine in. I noticed they have a small amount of branded merchandise, like baseball caps. There is free parking in their private parking lot at the back of the restaurant. Fun facts: The Wiches Cauldron started off as a food truck in the early/mid 2010s. Some time in the early 2020s they moved into their present location which was Red Gables Creperie before (it was also briefly Red Gables Ramen before they rebranded and started selling crepes instead of ramen). The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. District Deli only has cold sandwiches. No hot sandwiches, at least not at the time of the writing of this review. Service was courteous and efficient. Street parking only. Review #118 (2025)

Prepare to be amazed............... We had heard about his place for months and how awesome it was so we finally decided to try it out. When we got there at mid-day on a Saturday there was a line up out the door. My wife suggested we go for a walk to let the line thin out a but. We got back and the line had thinned out so we went in. They have a set number of sandwiches and you can also make your own, but we decided to try their set sandwiches. I got the Parkdale and the Holland, my wife got the Bayswater, and we picked up a Scott for my daughter. When we got home, we were nothing short of blown away. The quality of the sandwich was amazing - the bread was light and fluffy, a ton of meat, fresh veggies, great sauces, just incredible quality. More importantly, fantastic value for money. Even more importantly, the staff were wonderful - they chatted with us but kept the line moving - super professional and friendly. The quality of the sandwiches here rivals Old Tyme - no word of a lie. The bread they use is very very close to what we had in Lafayette and the quality of the fillings is outstanding. Don't walk, run to this place. It will change your life for what you think about sandwiches.

There's no signage to indicate they sell sandwiches, but reviews on Google said just ask the lady for "the sandwich" which is what I did. I got 2, one for my husband and one for myself. The sandwich comes with whatever meats they have at hand, whatever cheese they have at hand, lettuce, pickles, mustard and mayo. I asked the lady to hold the mayo and she did. The Sandwich is $6.50, which is a pretty good deal nowadays. The cheese was a delicious smoked Swiss and the meats were a salami and 2-3 different types of ham. It was delicious! The bread was a bit harder and chewier than my preference, but it was still good. They had some exotic Fanta and Schweppes drinks that I had never seen before. They also had lots of packaged (shelf-stable) cookies and candies from Eastern Europe. Service was friendly and efficient. I would definitely return for another sandwich if I was in the area and craving a sandwich. Lots of free parking in the Commons of Kanata Lakes, the plaza where this deli is located.

You get to choose your bread (and I believe there is no extra charge for gluten-free bread), cheese, up to 3 meats, unlimited vegetables and unlimited sauces. No sauce (I prefer a drier sandwich, lol). The man who made my bread was super nice. And they have very good sanitation practices. Food preparers wear gloves. The man prepped my bread, meats and cheese, and then put it in the toaster, since I asked to have it toasted. Then he cashed out the lady ahead of me. Then I saw him change his gloves before he came back and finished preparing my sandwich. I wished all restaurants followed these practices. Bravo! The sandwich was cut in half, and I ate half and brought the rest home to my husband, who also thoroughly enjoyed it. My only complaint, and it's totally on me for choosing the toppings, but it was a bit too salty with the black olives, pickles, eggplant AND sun-dried tomatoes. I might just go with the eggplant and skip the other 3 next time. Ingredients tasted fresh. The sandwich was much tastier than at those fast food chains. It's like they were a party girl then settled down and are now a suburban mom. Haha. I got the chicken vermicelli ($14.98). It had plenty of tender and juicy grilled chicken pieces. I loved the flavour. It was dark meat, but thankfully wasn't gristly. The vermicelli was perfect, not too mushy nor too dry. The iceberg lettuce was fresh and crisp. The pickled carrots and daikon radish were tangy. The cilantro added a fresh herby-ness to the dish. I skipped the fish sauce.
