Best soups, sammies, and treats in town! Their weekend specials are terrific too. Been a big fan since the food truck days.

Sandwich Factory - Yeah, it's huge, lol. My build-your-own sandwich ($11.88).

You get to choose your bread (and I believe there is no extra charge for gluten-free bread), cheese, up to 3 meats, unlimited vegetables and unlimited sauces. I got the hoagie, which was like a soft submarine bread, with Havarti cheese, chicken, turkey and ham, lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, black olives, pickles, cucumbers, hot eggplant, roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes and arugula. No sauce (I prefer a drier sandwich, lol). The man who made my bread was super nice. And they have very good sanitation practices. Food preparers wear gloves. The man prepped my bread, meats and cheese, and then put it in the toaster, since I asked to have it toasted. Then he cashed out the lady ahead of me. Then I saw him change his gloves before he came back and finished preparing my sandwich. I wished all restaurants followed these practices. Bravo! The sandwich was cut in half, and I ate half and brought the rest home to my husband, who also thoroughly enjoyed it. My only complaint, and it's totally on me for choosing the toppings, but it was a bit too salty with the black olives, pickles, eggplant AND sun-dried tomatoes. I might just go with the eggplant and skip the other 3 next time. Ingredients tasted fresh. The sandwich was much tastier than at those fast food chains. It's a takeout only joint, located in a strip mall. Lots of free parking in the strip mall.

Markie's Montreal Smoked Meat - Jumbo smoked meat platter

I've wanted to try this restaurant for years, but only made it now. I love corned beef / smoked meat, but I don't eat it that often. Generally I don't or try not to eat processed food that often, which of course smoked meat is. Too bad coz I get the craving for it more often than I eat it!! There are 2 Markie's I Ottawa; the other is on Carling. This location is in a plaza with a TD bank, Shoppers Drug, a Freshii, and Willy's, among other businesses. Markie's gets a lot of take out business, but they do offer a few tables for eat-in, like your usual fast food setup. You go to the counter and choose your options (ie: no waiter service). We each ordered a large #1, smoked meat on rye, which comes with fresh fries and a canned drink, and a side of coleslaw with a pickle spear, the slaw was very good! It's a diner experience, not 5-star cordon bleu, and the food hit the spot. My 2cents: I like a denser rye bread. This bread was finally big enough to hold so much meat, but it was so soft that it fell apart as I was eating the sandwich. It's no Schwartz' but that's a mighty high standard! And this is closer than Montreal. I would go back.

    Firehouse Subs- Kanata

There are lots of eateries in the Kanata Centrum and several were having BOGO (buy one get one free) offers on UberEats, and we decided on Firehouse Subs because their estimated pickup time was the fastest and sandwiches are usually a safe choice. And also neither of us had tried this chain before. I got the medium Hook and Ladder. In-store this sandwich retails for $10.49. On UberEats it was selling for $12.50, but I would get 2 for that price because of the BOGO deal, so I ordered on UberEats for pickup. My order was ready in like 10 minutes. Service was courteous and efficient. I was in and out in less than a minute, lol. The Hook and Ladder comes with smoked turkey and honey ham deli meats, lettuce, tomatoes, Monterey Jack cheese, mustard, onions and mayo. However, I asked for no onions and no mayo. The sandwiches came as ordered. I got to choose between white and whole wheat bread. I got the former. The bread was soft and fresh. The lettuce was shredded so it was a bit messy to eat, lol. They weren't too generous with the toppings, but the sandwich was still good. I didn't find anything particularly unique about the sandwich. It didn't wow me, but it was satisfactory. We ate in the car but there are seats to dine in. Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot. (144)

Tomaso Grilled Pizza & Panini - Goat in a Garden thin crust pizza

We got a small Goat in a Garden pizza, which was the #2 most liked as per UberEats. It was an 8x10 square, wood-fired, thin crust pizza. It had tomato sauce, fresh spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic, mozzarella, and goat cheese. I found it to be light on the cheese, both with the mozzarella and the goat cheese. I'm a big cheese lover, so I was a bit disappointed, especially with the small chunks of goat cheese that I couldn't quite taste. There was plenty of chopped spinach on top, but I'd have to say the sun-dried tomatoes were the overpowering flavour. I didn't realize until after that I could've chosen pesto instead of tomato sauce as the base, which I think I would have liked better. The crust was crunchy and though thin crust, it definitely had more structure and you could easily pick up a slice and not have it flip over. We also got a small classic Detroit deep dish pizza, also 8x10 square, had "lots of pepperonis" and brick cheese, and was the #1 most liked. They use small pepperoni and wouldn't necessarily say "lots" but maybe a regular amount, at least what I'd want to get haha. This one was definitely cheesier and my husband even said it tasted almost like the whole thing was sort of covered in crispy cheese around it and gooey cheese on top - great Detroit-style pan pizza. The dough was soft and pillowy, and had just the right amount of sour tang in a pizza dough that I enjoy. I'm not normally a thick crust pizza girl, but I enjoyed this one more and can see why it's the most-liked. I know they gave the measurements, but I didn't clue in to how small it actually was for the price, especially the thin crust pizza that wasn't very filling. I'd love to try their other deep dish pizzas, especially for eat-in, as there are more choices than what's available online for delivery.

The desserts were average, my request for adding blueberries turned out to be blackberries, and the crepes were surprisingly crispy rather than soft. We arrived about an hour before closing, ordered two crepes, one waffle, two drinks, a hot dog, and poutine. Our server was friendly, but we were surprised she didn't have to write down our order at all. To our disappointment... all desserts were served first, only to find out about an hour later, our poutine & hot dog was never inputted. When we asked if it was on the way, she said the machines were all shut down already. (The only things we thoroughly enjoyed was the drinks) We stopped in for a late night snack & dessert as I've been wanting to try this place out everytime I pass by after the movies but it turned out to be a bit of a letdown tonight.

The restaurant was very cute, in the way it was decorated. Unfortunately, since this place is so new the staff were very disorganized. Upon entering we had a very uncomfortable moment when we waited to be seated. The man standing at the podium did not acknowledge us, he even looked up and ignored us. A hostess or waiter appeared and took us to our table. We sat at this huge semi circle booth. It was very cool! Here's some of the disorganized problems we encountered. Our drinks were served in mason jars, no straws. We had to ask. My friends food came with no cutlery. They said they'd bring it and apologized. Her food including ice cream, sat there a good 7 minutes before she decided to get the cutlery herself. Also, to tell the staff that she had her food and I didn't. So after those 7 or so minutes, I still had to wait for another 5 or so minutes for my food. The waiter asked how my food was, and proceeded to tell me that the option I chose was not a good one and if he were me, I should have ordered a different croffle. (This is something he probably should have mentioned when I was ordering.) In the end, I enjoyed my food and the look of the place. Hopefully with time, these small things will improve.
