Finally tried the bakery! This place has been a bakery for a long time while changing names and owners. Loved the simple yet modern decor now! And they definitely have creative pies.. not your original ones! Service was fast and they accept all kind of payments . We loved the "Halloum and Basil" and their sujouk and cheese was a big hit too! The thickness of the crust is great and the variety of pies is definitely creative!

If you have t gone from my previous two reviews then you are really missing out. We try to go to The Baker every time we are in the Barrhaven area. They have recently added a few new flavours. You MUST try them. They are the best pies in the city and the BEST service in the city

An assortment of pies

I had never tried Lebanese pies before, but kept hearing about The Baker located nearby my neighbourhood. Omar, the owner, has created some tasty flavour profiles with his pies. Our favourites are: the Kofta ($4.50) - ground beef with minced onion and parsley topped with tahini sauce, the Chicken & Cheese ($5.50) and the Basil Pesto Halloumi ($4.50). These pies are seriously addicting and very filling! My brother-in-law was able to enjoy them as well because they're 100% nut-free. For those interested, these pies are also 100% halal. If you're ever in Barrhaven, you need to check this place out! You won't regret it (except for the fact that you will keep wanting more and more).

I'm addicted to this place! Best pies in Ottawa! Everything is so delicious I've tried most of their pies and it's so satisfying

Lebanese Palace - Mixed Shawarma Platter $15.99.

We love Lebanese food as one of our best friends is from Lebanon and opened our eyes. It was sketchy walking in, it looked closed and the parking lot was empty other than 2 other cars. But, upon opening the door and making our way to the dining area it was much better. Clearly this used to be a BIG operation back in the day, but now looks like it is mostly for take out or quick meals. The dining area and kitchen were all bright and clean. The man behind the counter was very friendly and was happy to sell us a couple of falafel on the side. He custom makes each wrap and plate for the guest which is great. You can see the meat on the spits as well as all of the fresh veg and sauces. He takes his time to build it just right for us which was really nice. Good menu options, I would have liked to try more. We really enjoyed our mixed wrap. He was kind enough to put the hot sauce on one half and not the other. Both were great. The falafel was quite dry, and the sauce didn't really help much. Good flavor. Overall it is a solid option, I'd get it again in a pinch, but the meats and falafel were quite dry. Service was great, everything was fresh and it was a great stop for us.

The mixed shawarma platter ($15.99) comes with beef and chicken shawarma, potatoes, rice (they have white rice with vermicelli and brown rice and I got half and half), pickles, pickled turnips, garlic sauce, hummus, a salad and a pita. I asked for the salad dressing on the side. The meat was good, but the beef was less lean than I like. The white rice with vermicelli was soft and fluffy, but the brown rice was a bit harder. The hummus was thick and smooth and the garlic sauce was rich and creamy. The salad had red peppers, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, red cabbage and onions. No pita chips. Vegetables were fresh. I liked the creamy pink salad dressing. The pita was ok. It was wrapped in paper like a big candy or one of those Christmas crackers/holiday poppers. Service was neutral. They have a fairly large dining area inside and some seats outside as well. Lots of free parking in their own private parking lot.

Based on other reviews, especially Keith T.'s, I ordered the half grilled boneless chicken plate with Bokhari rice. The plate also comes with turnips, salad, hummus, and garlic. I decided to upgrade the salad to a fattoush salad, get an additional 2oz hummus and garlic sauce (I didn't know how big/small the ones would be that came with the platter), as well as 2oz of Ali's Hot Sauce and an additional Kabab Halabi skewer. The chicken was cooked perfectly, great char but still super moist. the hot sauce was very spicy. The fresh herbs and vegetables on the side were such a great pairing. The fattoush was good, especially with the extra crispy pita chips on top. I do wish, however, that plain rice was an option, as I actually didn't need flavoured rice and would've preferred plain. My husband ordered a chicken taouk wrap with garlic, lettuce, onion, and tomato, plus batata hara and a Coke Zero. I've never had fateh before and also wanted to try it because of Hadia G.'s review. I got a single order. It had freshly cooked chickpeas with a mix of yogurt and tahini on a bead of pita chips and topped with pine nuts. This was by far my favourite and I could eat it ALL DAY. My husband and I were obsessed. OBSESSED! It was warm and delicious, creamy but not super rich, and very flavourful rather than just salty. I swear it should be illegal to eat this many pita chips, but we just couldn't stop. This is a bold statement, but I think it's one of the top vegetarian dishes I've ever had. It's on the breakfast menu but is available all day. I got knafeh for dessert, also for the first time. It was nice and cheesy, and I expected it to be sweet, but maybe just a little too sweet for me. Since this was my first time trying fateh, I can't compare it to anywhere else, but I would absolutely order it again and again!

For us modest appetites, this is easily 3 meals - easily! We ordered 2 plates and a sandwich for 4 people and still had enough leftovers for a small breakfast the morning after. My personal favorite was the mixed shawarma plate. I love how it comes with pita made specifically for Shawarma Palace, rice, potatoes, salad, pickled veg, and the meat. We also got the mixed kabob plate which featured tender beef but the chicken kabob was just a hair bit dry. The falafel sandwich was actually very dry and I would not recommend this. We also picked up some baklava for dessert after and I liked how it was just sweet enough! You can taste the pistachios and I thought the kiss of rose water was just enough to make the bite memorable!

Happened upon this restaurant one evening. I saw a shawarma place on the north side of the street,…read moreso I prepared to turn off and go back, but here was another shawarma place. Quickly looked at Yelp and saw a fantastic number of reviews. So this place looked to be the real thing. I stepped up to the counter and ordered the beef shawarma platter to eat in. The guys just kept piling more and more on the platter. It was absolutely ridiculously huge by the time they were done. It was stacked with beef on top. As I paid, I asked for a take-out container. There was no hesitation. So obviously, this is the way they do it. I sat in the super clean dining area and started in on this massive dish. Then I saw a young family carry their plates to a table adjacent to me. And they all had these massive plates too. So after stuffing myself and hardly putting a dent in this pile of food I had to load up the take out clamshell. It would hardly close and weighed 2-3lbs (after filling myself). So if you want to buy one dish and eat a tasty healthy meal for a week. This is your place. It seemed very clean in the restaurant (signs say leave your dishes on the table - so they are obviously bussing the tables regularly). The washroom was also exceptionally clean. The staff that built my meat mountain were super friendly. I would certainly recommend this place!

I love Middle Eastern meat pies and so I've been wanting to try all the ones available in Ottawa…read more Next on my list was Al Noor Bakery. I finally went there recently and ordered some meat pies ($2 each) and meat and cheese pies ($2.75 each). Both types of pies were great, but I liked the meat and cheese one the most. The cheese was so chewy, and slightly squeaky. It reminded me of cheese curds. The meat was well seasoned and wasn't too sour or too salty like at some places. The dough was thin and slightly crispy, not doughy. I like thin and crispy, so I liked the dough. The meat had a slight smokey flavour to it, but not as much as Aladdin's. I compare most meat pies to Aladdin's because they are my favourite, but Al Noor is a very very close second. They are both very similar. Al Noor's has more meat and cheese but Aladdin's has more of that smokey flavour that I like. The bakery has some seats so you can eat your food there. They also sell some sweets that are prepackaged (not baked there). They also sell beverages. I didn't like the fact that the staff did not wear gloves while they prepared my food. Nor did I see them washing their hands at any point. The man preparing my food was actually holding his phone with one hand (and watching a video on it) and preparing my food with this other hand (and occasionally touching his phone with the food preparing hand). Minus 1 star for (lack of) sanitation. If staff wore gloves, this place would get 5 stars from me. Staff are nice enough. The place is bigger than I expected. It's in a strip mall on Wylie just off Carling (you can see the bakery from Carling). There is a small parking lot in front, so there is free parking but it's limited. And this may be a bit random, but the entrance door is really really heavy, lol. If you love meat pies, give Al Noor a try!
