When I was vacationing back then, I got some from Aladdin and enjoyed them. Last month, I was staying close by and headed over here. Memories came flooding back. I realized that I had cash back then. I vividly remember holding two five dollar bills. I didn't have any cash on me on this visit. The store had an ATM. I didn't feel like using it and paying an extra fee. I also wasn't in the mood to find the nearest Scotiabank. Instead, I pulled out my Uber Eats app to find a pie place that I could pay with a credit card and pick my order up. I found Lili Pies. I had never been here. I proceeded to check out the menu. I had a bakery stop between placing my order and fetching it. It all worked out. I ordered the following pies: - Meat pie - Cheese pie - Meat and cheese pie I got an estimated time of twenty minutes. It was enough time to hit the bakery first, and then swing on over to Lili Pies. It's street parking when you get here. I did a completely bold move. I temporarily parked in front of the store and headed inside. Markhamites do it often when they are picking up takeout at some eatery in Langham Square and aren't interested in browsing around. I applied this move here. It worked. I walked in and spoke to a man. I let him know that I had an Uber Eats order and stated my name. This odd exchange happened: "Are you an Uber Eats driver?" he asked me. "No, I'm a customer. Can you not tell from Uber Eats?" I asked him. I got no answer. When I look back at this exchange, maybe it was my park-on-the-road-with-emergency-lights move that made him think that I was an Uber Eats delivery person. I took a photo of the menu. He remarked that I was taking photo. It was odd. I thanked the man and left with my pies. They were carefully wrapped and packed in a paper bag. They were warm. I ate them all while driving eastbound. These pies were larger than the ones at Aladdin. The crust on each one was crispy and crunchy on the outside, but not to the point where you were eating a huge crispy shell. You still got some chewiness inside. I liked the cheese one the best. There is something about having a bit of saltiness and richness from the cheese with the crispy crust that made it the best snack. I'm not the type who craves cheese, so having a cheese pie seemed special here. I had the meat one next. It had a different set of spices than those used at Aladdin. The man who interacted with me was of African decent. Perhaps he put an African spin on the flavouring. It was yummy and made my tastebuds react to new flavours. I wasn't sure if I could down the third one, but I did. The best of both worlds is the meat and cheese pie. It's perfect if you can't decide what you want. You can't go wrong with one. You get the perfect balance of slightly salty cheese with the unique spice blend in the meat filling. The pies were yummy. I was sad that I ate them all so quickly. I almost died when my friend asked me if I wanted to have dinner at her mom's place when we talked moments I made my pies disappear into my stomach. I wasn't sure if I could stuff myself with dinner. I learned on this trip that I can. My stomach makes room for yummy food, even though I felt full and happy. Despite the weird interaction that I had picking up my takeout order, I'd return for some more pies. Maybe if I park on the street like a normal human instead of doing a stop-grab-and-go move with my car, the interaction may have been different. I hope that it doesn't take me another four years to return to Ottawa. I look forward to stuffing my face again with yummy pies from this place. (324)

I was eyeing Bibi's Middle Eastern Kitchen when they opened up their first location in Beechwood,…read morebut it's an area I'm rarely ever in, so I never went. So I was thrilled when they opened up this second location in Wellington West, which is within walking distance from my home. On our first visit, my husband and I went there and tried their meat and cheese pies ($4.50 each). We got one each and it was the perfect size for a snack. The pastry is a bit on the thicker side, so it was a bit doughier than I like. However, it was crispy on the outside. There was less meat than I like, but the amount of cheese was good. It wasn't too sour, like at some places (e.g. Yalla Yalla Bakery in Orleans). However, it didn't have that smokey flavour that I like (like at Aladdin's on Carling Ave). Overall, it was pretty good. On a subsequent visit, I had their meat pie ($4.50) and my husband had their zataar pie ($3.75) and we shared a Tabouli ($6.50). The pastry for their meat pie is a lot thinner than their meat and cheese pie. I prefer the thinner pastry in terms of taste, but since both pies are the same price you definitely get more bang for your buck with the meat and cheese pie. I was definitely still hungry after eating the meat pie. My husband said the zataar was "ok." It has a thicker pastry, similar to the meat and cheese pie. I'm not a huge fan of tabouli in general, but will admit that this one was better than most. It had parsley, quinoa, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and I think even beets. The dressing was tangy and it wasn't too oily. They have a liquor license and serve wine and beer, which is uncommon for Middle Eastern restaurants around here. They are also cashless and only accept cards as payment. When the weather is nice, this location has a few seats outdoors in front of the restaurant. There are a fair amount of seats indoors. Street parking only.

Of the flatbreads I ordered, my favorites were the og meat pie and the akkawi. I did not care for the zaatar, even though it is a classic, and the sujuk with cheese was ok. I would def come again.

I really liked the bread, which had a pattern on it and a texture that matched the sandwich contents perfectly. And I loved the packaging, it was a bit unexpected. All in all, a good takeout option. So this Ottawa location was actually the first in Canada! They are planning to open a store in Toronto and one in Mississauga. (I still can't believe Ottawa got something before the GTA did, lol). I've been wanting to try this place since it opened but it's not in an area that I frequent. I finally made it out there recently. Overall it was good, albeit a bit too salty for my liking. I got a Chicken Durum Doner Wrap ($8.99), a Beef Doner Burger ($7.99), an order of curry fries ($2.99) and an order of flaming fries ($2.99). My husband and I split everything. My favourite was the Chicken Durum Doner Wrap. The meat was flavourful and moist, just a bit too salty, in my opinion. The meat had a nice smokey flavour to it that I liked. The wrap was nice and chewy. I really enjoyed it. I found the Beef Doner Burger to be ok. The beef was a bit dry and not as good as the chicken. The fries were good. I loved the seasonings on them. However, I found the portions small for the price. Both the Curry and the Flaming flavours were spicy. They give you 3 dipping sauces, spicy, garlic and yogurt. The latter two are creamy and rich. The first one is more tangy. My order also came with a moist hand towelette and an allergens card, listing the common allergens found in each of the items that they sell. Service was courteous. Since we are in the midst of the Covid Pandemic and there's not a lot of room inside, you order and pay. Then they give you a buzzer. You stand outside and wait. When your order is ready, your buzzer will buzz and they bring your order out to you and you return the buzzer. The place is on Elgin, so street parking only.

Five Stars -- The Best Philly Cheesesteak I've Ever Had…read more I just had the best Philly cheesesteak of my life. I don't say that lightly. From the first bite to the last, it was absolute perfection. The steak was unbelievably tender, sliced thin and piled high, cooked just right so every bite was juicy and full of flavour. The cheese? Melted perfectly into every bite, rich and smooth. And the bun... warm, soft, with just the right hint of crispness. It held everything together like a proper cheesesteak should. And here's the part that shocked me: it was better than any cheesesteak I've ever had in Philadelphia -- and I've had plenty. This one sets a whole new benchmark. Every ingredient tasted fresh, every flavour balanced. No shortcuts. No filler. Just pure, delicious craftsmanship. It's the kind of sandwich that makes you stop mid-bite and appreciate what's happening. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed something this much. If you think you've had a great Philly cheesesteak before, think again -- this one is on another level. I'll be back. Now let's talk about the Onion Rings I got as a side! Simply perfection. Nice and crispy in a very tasty batter. Best in Ottawa, by far! I will definitely be back!

Each combo includes fries, coleslaw, garlic sauce and a can of pop (although we never got any garlic sauce, but they gave us 9 packets of ketchup (yipee!), since I love ketchup and garlic sauce is usually fattening anyway, I was happy with just the ketchup). The wait is long because they make everything to order. It was about a 20-25 minute wait. The chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside with a nice hint of flavour. I feel that the chicken is slightly better here than at Zaki's Broast. Broasted chicken is supposed to be less greasy and oily than fried chicken, but I still found it oily. The best broasted chicken I've ever had was at La Hoyo in Halifax which is now closed :( I'm still looking for chicken like that... The fries here are much better than at Zaki's in my opinion. The fries at Laziz are hand cut and lightly seasoned. The coleslaw here is also amazing. It's the creamy type which I usually don't like but I liked Laziz's coleslaw. The dressing is slightly sweet and they use purple and green cabbage, so it looks really colourful. There's a nice crunch to the coleslaw too. The older man who works here is very nice, but the younger guy was really indifferent towards us. The place is clean enough, as are the washrooms. There's sufficient seating and lots of free parking. It's in the same strip mall as the Mark's, Sushi Kan, and Eclipse Asian Cuisine.

I liked that the dough was not too thick and it even had some crispy edges, which I like. The amount of meat and cheese was also good. The flavour was nice too. It didn't have that smoky flavour that I like, but it was still a solid meat pie, and one of the better ones in the city, IMO. They sell lots of different types of pies, and also sandwiches.
