They are all SO RUDE. We were trying to order and look around and they started yelling at us asking how many pieces we wanted so they could get the box. We were getting a selection and didn't know atm. Couldn't they have just took what we wanted then boxed it? Really wanted to like this seemingly neighborhood bakery. The woman in the front wasn't that friendly during a 8am weekday visit (and I was the only one in the store). I asked about a particular item (almond cookies) and she had no idea if they had any. Like really? That seems like a staple or at least know that you don't have it. Very Disappointed - Not Recommended for Special Occasions This is the second time I've bought a cake from this bakery for a special occasion, and unfortunately, it was a big letdown again. The cake was not fresh at all--it had a stale texture and the taste was off, almost sour. For something that's supposed to be the highlight of a celebration, this was really frustrating and embarrassing. This morning when I was there I specifically asked the worker is the cake is fresh because I had bad experience and she said yes .I strongly advise others to be careful and avoid buying cakes for important events from here. Stopped in for the vegan lahmajun and unfortunately the only lahmajun available today was meat. Nonetheless, the ladies working behind the counter were very friendly and helpful explaining what other items were available. So walked around and quickly realized although I'm not a cake person the cakes here are indeed beautiful and the other desserts looked mighty nice, too. Picked up a few little chocolate cookies for a friend, Also saw some packaged corn chips and candies . Free parking was easy right out front. I wouldn't hesitate coming back. read more

Old & Stale Bakery is more suiting of a name; a dozen lahmajoun w/ 9 in the trash. With a faint of meat on stale dough, it was anything but edible. A tray of pastries from Ararat became the butt of our Thanksgiving joke, as it found its way to the table, only to to be mocked and ridiculed for the horrendous taste of old pastries having taken on the smell of the refrigerator. The amount of money I paid for both we were able to recoup in laughter and a lesson to not deviate from the quality of bakeries we usually shop from. The sad part was this women behind the register took so long to figure out the amounts to ring up, I honestly believe she just made up prices. $2.25 per lahmajoun and $35 for the mid-size tray of this particularly popular pastry that I cannot recall the name of. read more

Please avoid this place and do not buy anything from this store at all specially, the bread this is not about the quality this is about the customer service experience that I had here for several years. unfortunately this business owner do not know anything about running business in United States at all if you go in the morning and ask for a fresh bread, even though the store is opening at 7 AM, They do not have the fresh bread at 7 AM sharp. They will tell you it will be ready in five minutes which is sometimes you have to wait for 15 minutes or more to get the fresh bread so my question is here if your bread is not ready by the time you're opening the store why are you opening the store at 7 AM sharp? You can open the store at 7:15 when you have the bread ready and today when I was there a customer asked you told me the bread is going to be ready in one minute, but it's not ready. All three workers start yelling at the person saying if you don't want to wait do not wait at all!!! really? is this a type of customer service you are doing here. We bought cake pops and asked the worker if they contained any nuts due to severe nut allergy and she assured me that it is nut free. I asked 3 times if she was sure if it was nut free and she said yes with an attitude. While my kid was eating it, we discovered a piece of walnut in the cake pop. This is very unacceptable as nut allergies are life threatening! I'm very upset and I will never come to this bakery again! One star for the customer service not the bread. The owner of this store needs to train himself or herself first about the customer service quality in United States then train his or her employees the same as well. I went to buy some Barbari bread today and there were two more customers ahead of me both waiting for the lady workers. No one was helping them at that moment while you could hear them talking and laughing out loud in the back of the store which you could not see them. One the customers gets angry and tried to call tem 4 times. He even opened the store door twice in order to trigger the bell sound, meaning someone is inside the store needing help. After 2 or 3 minutes a lady came out and the customer said I need help, why no is at the counter? The worker said I was in the back sorting the bread. The other customer asked why my potato Pirashki is not ready? The worker answered: it will be ready soon. Both customers were frustrated while the workers did not even try to say sorry about the wait! At the end one of the workers told the customer that we are working here we are not chit chatting with other workers. She said: do you talk to your wife like this? I was like what the hell????? If the worker could understand the customer and could even say sorry about the wait, I am sure the customer would be calm and happy after all and that is the customer service skills. Also when the store is opening at 7 am, why the bread is ready at 7:15??? So open the door at 7:15 am then. The manager of this store thinks because there is no competition nearby, it ok to have zero customer service. The workers can't even line up the customers when the store is busy and everyone is staying in a different lines all over the store. It is unfortunate that the bread quality is not even comparable to the customer service. To conclude the story happened today I would like to let you know that One of the workers mentioned to the customer at the end that do you talk like this in other non Armenian owned businesses? Trust the old and new yelp reviews, looked around something's were a bit too pricey, the nazooks and a few of the other pastry's in the front seemed fresh everything else either a day or more old, the freshest and popular thing there was the bread. Their customer service was standard and ok, and good presentation overall on how they organized everything, wished everything had a price tag didn't know the price for 80% of the stuff, got baklava premade, heard the cashier say 20 bucks was actually 28 was fine with that, was in a hurry since I was passing by to try their baklava since it's hard to find a place that makes it fresh, and had a potluck later today for a college club I'm apart of. No one knew at the potluck what it was suppose to taste like since it was their first time having baklava so I wasn't too embarrassed when I tasted that baklava, when I tasted it I realized it was 2 days old since the syrup had overpowered the flavor the balance was gone. The first time I went there i got their crème brûlée, I even asked the lady who was helping me if it was fresh? she said yes they are. Im not kidding as i got home and opened the box, i saw the custard was dried as rock and was covered with a big strawberry. What really bugged me about this place is their lack of care. It's almost misleading because as soon as you walk in, the fridge displays are filled with pastries, and gorgeous cakes! The selection of cakes that are available are those of many. A ton of different flavors, sizes, and professional designs! Honestly I thought it was a bang for my buck, until I realized you pay for what you get. My sister and I picked out a beautiful vibrant Red Velvet with the perfect flat surface to write "Happy Birthday Mom" across the top. I have yet to go to a bakery that doesn't expect to have to write on a cake once in a while for special occasions but this one apparently had no experience doing so or apparently no respect in doing it correctly. While we are at the counter waiting for the associate to pull the cake out of the fridge we ask her if she can write on the cake. Not only does she seem annoyed by the request but she's rather confused. We see her head to the back and then a moment later bring out some sort of ribbon she places on the cake. She had literally scribbled "Happy Birthday Mom" on a piece of ribbon with frosting. I honestly couldn't believe it. I've been coming to this Bakery since the beginning of time, at first the customer service and pastries wasn't that bad- However, it seems to me every time I go not only does the customer service get worse but their pasties get just as bad . There are several things that I've noticed which frustrated me and so here I am sharing with the rest of you! The bakery itself is clean and well organized- they have a variety of nuts, chocolates, and other treats to grab and go which to me is something you can't really mess up... My dad buys their barbari bread every Sunday morning which by the way (the size of the bread is smaller now) and it's good, I could probably say it's the only "good" thing they have...But good luck getting it, God forbid you go in on a busier morning, their ovens only take a limited amount of bread so they hand it out 5-6 people at a time and then you have to wait another 10-15 minutes for the next batch (yeah, annoying right?) Their pasties are NOT fresh, I bought a variety of pastries today tried a little bit of everything and they all had a lemon taste to it! I mean, gross... who wants a hint of lemon on everything? I thought I was crazy until I read somebody else wrote about the same thing! It wasn't as fresh, you could just taste the fridge it was sitting in for the past week, I immediately threw it away! The cakes are whatever, it's a hit or miss with that. Don't even get me started on their customer service, every time Ive been, there's a new worker and every single one of them are miserable. They have such bad attitudes and act like you owe them the world. God forbid you want to take your time on picking your pasties... you ask them a question and nobody can give you a proper response. I've been coming to this bakery for a long time, my interest has gradually decreased. I feel like their pastries all have a hint of lemon flavor. It doesnt matter what item you get it's just lemony. You want chocolate cake, well here's a dash of lemon flavor, you want fruit tart here you go with more lemon. Otherwise it's a clean and nice establishment. My favorite Armenian bakery in the north valley. They have a huge selection, beautiful cakes, delicious, even though I haven't tried many of them, they have unique and good cookies very reasonably priced, and make fresh bread daily. Love their ponchik too. Can't have too much of this stuff though as it is decadent. Went in today and they have completely remodeled, moved in to the space next door which has been done beautifully and much bigger. Had to take pics to post. Enjoy the new and improved Ararat bakery.
