By far my favorite place to buy aquarium supplies, shrimp, fish, aquarium plants, fish food, and such. Always well stocked - although the offerings change with time....which is great. Always fun to see what's new. Never had an issue with fish...but I'm super-careful and (consistent with good practice) quarantine all purchases for 10 days to 2 weeks. Worst place ever, bought fish for my son and in the first 4 hours of getting them home two died. After 2 weeks we lost another fish. I have had fish my whole life and never had any issues with fish in the past. If you want all your fish to die they will from this place. The store is also very old and dirty. read more

This store used to be the only place I would go to to make my tropical fish purchases, but of late, their customer service has tanked like a sick goldfish. Looks like the owner guy is losing interest. Their counter help is atrocious with interruptions when they are helping you, but dodge off to talk to somebody else leaving you holding the bag. The assortment of fish is still good and the store was always great to go in to and check out the large tanks, hence the two stars, but the customer service has dumped and I expect the store is going to close soon anyway. read more

I went to look around, but I ended up buying a pet shrimp and then one of the employees gave me two pet shrimp one for free and one that cost about $3.58 but the guy let us get them for $3.21 employees were really nice. I recommend coming here. read more

I am only giving this review with one star because I can't give it anything else. My boyfriend & I walked into this store thinking we hit the jackpot. Come to find out, they have the WORST service. There is a worker there that every time we approached - he would just walk away. At one point, my boyfriend grabbed a bag to take the fish that we wanted out ourselves. Every tank had at least 1 dead fish in it and even though the prices are very reasonable, it is not worth the frustration of waiting over 20 minutes to even just be acknowledged. Love this place. Always a great selection of fresh water and salt water fish. Sometimes they don't have much inventory due to them being far east on Long Island. One of the best spots in all of NY for finding rare fresh water shrimp! Some coworkers are helpful and passionate at helping me find what I need. Would recommend this place to anyone. When you have a sick fish at home this isn't the place to go. We brought in some water to test and walked into possibly the rudest help. When we asked if they could test they just answered not on a Friday night. Thats it. I understand if we walked in ten minutes to close but it was 5pm and they close at 7pm. Also why Friday when you are open 7 days a week, it sounded like a excuse to not help us. We left immediately and went somewhere else that helped us. Price always varies when it comes to fish depending of the availability of species, location of store...etc But hey, fish keeping is an expensive hobby Aside from $$ they have friendly staff, always busy, so don't get the wrong idea when they seem to not want to help you. Always a new shipment of fish/plants every week. They keep their tanks fairly clean and remove dead fish promptly to prevent diseases. Always something new going through the isles. They don't really mind when you just go in and treat it like a public aquarium viewing what they have in stock. Go check them out, always something new and cool. There is no other store like `The Hut`. They get fish no one else gets, and sell them at 1/3rd what others would if they did. Staff is very knowledgeable, inventory is large, and prices are very good on that also. They been there since 71, I believe, and that says alot also. Love this place! It's quite literally jam packed with amazing fish. Everything is well maintained, and the fish are healthy. I never have a problem getting help or aquarium advice. Aqua Hut in Coram is the absolute worst. Do not go here to purchase fish. The employees suggest the wrong things and the fish are unhealthy. Should have learned after the first time I went when all of the snails and live plants I purchased died. I went back and they suggested I go with particular fish which ended up again dying not before killing another fish in my tank. For a better experience and healthy fish go to country critters in patchogue. I gave one star because you have to give a rating otherwise I'd give them nothing. read more

My first experience here was great. Great customer service and quality fish. The fish are thriving. That's why I came for a second time. But, this is my last time here. I had a horrible experience this second time around. I walk in and said " how's it goin, hi" I get a grunt mumble from the round husky dude at the counter. I look around and see the fish I want to purchase and that same round husky guy walks past me and I say " hi, can I have some help with some fish I want to buy?" He mumbled grunts again and walks past me and totally ignored me. I waited for about 10 more minutes before another employee asked if I need help and he was helpful. This older gentleman asked which fish I wanted and scooped them up with no problem. As for the round husky guy, he was somewhere doing something. I like their selection of fish have had success with their animals in the past, but my experience today was horrible. I'll look for another place to purchase fish. read more

Aqua Hut is a great aquarium shop. I frequently visit Tropical Island Aquarium in Deer Park, and Aqua Hut is the only other aquarium shop on Long Island that I would trust with supplying my needs with the hobby. The livestock is often healthy and the store is enormous, offering a wide selection of both saltwater and freshwater fish. Prices are fantastic, and help is abundant. I definitely would recommend this store as an essential stop when it comes to aquariums and fish keeping. read more

STAY AWAY FROM AQUA HUT!!! Richie sold me 4 young African Cichlid Peacock fish who had ick disease and they transferred the parasitic disease killing off my entire tank of my 4 beautiful adult African Cichlid Peacocks and 1 adult Butterfly Pleco. The 4 young fish I bought did not display any signs of disease, but the others in Richie's tank did. I never saw ick before in fish, and he taught me what it looks like by showing it to me in his other fish. He even said to me while pointing to some of the other 75+ fish in the same tank: "I won't give you those because they have the ick spots". I just read online that ick is a highly contagious disease, and fish can carry it even though they don't display visual signs of it (the 4 I bought from him). There has not been any PH, temperature, or nitrate/nirtrite change in my tank at all, so that cannot be the cause. I even medicated the tank with ick medication early on as soon as I noticed the many tiny dots all over my adult's bodies, but they still died before the medication's cycle of 3 days had finished. Painful lesson learned. That's the last time I ever buy healthy-looking fish when others in the same tank carry ick disease. And that's something they, a fish store who has been in business since the 70's, should've known to do - to treat fish containing the ick parasite with medication before they sell them to the public and infect everyone else's tanks causing many painful deaths! So sad to watch all of my beautiful adults die... read more
