You should not keep betta fish in cups they will be much much happier and healthier if you give them tanks. They don't even have to be big bettas just need around a 3-5 gallons even just putting them in big sized mason jars with some easy plants like Java moss and lucky bamboo or plants from your betta buddy cups and a scoop of gravel is better than those tiny cups.You guys already have empty tanks and bettas can sometimes go with community fish if they have the right personality. I've been coming to this pet smart for years and have never ran into any issues before except recently when I had a rude encounter over the phone. I had called about my fish that were sick with dropsy and asked what to buy to help improve their tank, to which a worker named Lisa was extremely rude to me on the phone and had cut me off mid conversation and hung up on me. I had went to the store in person and confronted the issue and recorded the entire interaction. Her excuse for being extremely nasty to me was because she "thought I was a child on the phone" and sounded "young" so I wasn't taken seriously. She then apologized to me with no sympathy behind her apology instead she had a smile on her face. I'm disgusted with how this worker handled the situation and behaved. I hope no other customers have to encounter such rude behavior. read more

Now, the 1 star review for the Petsmart on Route 112 in Port Jeff Station. 2 weeks ago our fur babies Shelly and Jax the Chihuahuas need to have their nails trimmed. Having seen the sign outside the Port Jeff Petsmart advertising $10 nail trims, we brought them over. Meeting up with Amy, she did a good job in trimming them down and them grinding them to a smooth finish.(Thus the 1 star) We were charged $40 for the 2 dogs only to find out it was an additional $10 per dog to use the grinder. Ok, Should has asked in the beginning...my bad. We made an appointment to have them groomed 2 weeks later for a Saturday at 9am and received an appointment card showing the date and time. We arrived at 8:55 for our 9 am appointment on the designated day, Amy said "My bad, the appointment was for 11 and to come back at 11, bye" despite the card showing 9 am as the appointment time. She then took the card and changed the 9 to 11. My wife stunned, said we could not come back at 11 since we already had plans for the day and asked for the manager's name and was told she wouldn't be in until 11. My wife called back and spoke to Amanda who said in a rude tone, "What do you want me to do about it?" Obviously, she has no manager skills. So my wife hung up. We made an appoint at another groomer in the meantime and will not return to Petsmart in Port Jefferson despite its very convenient location. I've read other bad grooming reviews for this store, so I see that I'm not too far from accurate. Bottom line, take your grooming elsewhere. This staff is pathetic. read more

Both my dogs (Weimaraners) have been coming here for nail trims. Lola doesn't particularly love it, and dances around the entire time; they always have 2 people, 1 trimming her nails, the other holding her for safety. They usually tell me to walk around, but I always stay to make sure she is more comfortable seeing me. Today was no different. In walks Megan. I watch her carefully approach Lola, slightly intimidated, which I thought was odd, trying to decide whether or not to pet her, and she proceeds to pet her on the head. Suddenly she jumps back and looks at me in pure shock, "she bit me!!!" I looked straight at her and said, "she did not bite you, I just saw the entire thing." She again claimed she bit her. The assistant asked if she was okay, she said, oh yeah, I'm fine. Fine??? You just got bit - no marks, nothing??? I was furious. I told them, I'm not an in denial pet parent, she is almost 12 years old and has never been aggressive a day in her life! Just imagine if I walked around the store, the story I would have gotten when I returned!!!! I told them not to clean her ears, just finish her nails. Megan stated, "that's probably why she bit me, she thought I was going to clean her ears." Again, I said, she did not bite you! Pet stuff Pet Smart locations are all over the country and for the most part you should have a pretty good idea of what they sell just by reading the name. This location was convenient to our being in the area and needing some assistance with a pet issue so we popped in. We needed some pet odor advice for an elderly relative we were visiting - no kidding, they turned into a cat rescue home and the stench was overwhelming; we needed help and fast. The PetSmart employees were just great- they took their time working with us to get some products that would destroy the odor and really understood what we were telling them. We took the recommended items and headed out- the manager (I believe) was chatting with us all the way out- she was just great. So i decided to get my long haired cat groomed and had the option of only 2 Petsmart's nearby that offer cat grooming.(Commack and Port Jefferson) I chose to come to Port Jefferson due to the fact that it was very close compared to Commack. i called Commack and they said it is $65 no matter what kind of cat. This terrible groomer at Petsmart's Port Jefferson location charged me $105. Yea you heard that right.. but at the end of the day, all that should be cared about is the job that was done. Well the job was terrible and the price is terrible. Not only did they refuse to let me see my cat before paying but they also shaved my cat down to the skin and overall made her look ridiculous. When I need something that my local mom & pop store doesn't have, Petsmart is the place to go! *This review is based on the retail part of the store. Not the grooming service* I've been coming to this Petsmart since they opened their doors and never once have I been let down. The employees are always so super friendly and they always just seem happy to work there! In the past few years they have gone above and beyond to help me. Comparatively price wise they really are so much cheaper than Petco and any other corporate pet store. They always have great sales and so many coupons! They make it easy to donate as well (I donate every time I'm there!) They will never ask or be pushy with the donations but they keep small items by the register for you to add onto your purchase for those who want to. They are very active with the community's homeless pet shelters and I really love the fact that even though they are corporate they are also home grown. I love Petsmart! read more

I rescued a chameleon from that location because they had him in the wrong enclosure, left him dehydrated and he died 5 days later, the damage was already done!! DO NOT BUY ANY PETS FROM THIS STORE!! Extremely disappointed. Our pet had an appointment booked at least a month in advance. I woke up to a voice mail from Amanda letting me know that the groomer we selected, Julia wasn't coming in today. She didn't offer to groom my dog today herself, as the manager, or suggest another groomer to take care of our dog. She pushed my appointment an entire week out to a time and date that doesn't work well for us. If you're going to do that, at least work with us on a time. You so easily cancelled our appointment, I guess no one else's appointment can be moved around as well? I understand things happen but this isn't right. We had to call back and only then did she offer a small discount. I don't like the way Amanda treated us and acted like our time isn't important. She needs further training if this is the so called manager you have on staff. I want a reply back from management. read more

Horrendous groomers here. I have NEVER in my life been treated so bad with puppy at any groomer. I have had previous dogs and brought them else where. I should have done the same with my new puppy. I brought him in to petsmart for a "trim" and nail cutting. He is a 5lb puppy ad 5months old and was never groomed. They talked me into filing instead and didn't not even tell me about the extra charge. Then they said that he was difficult and charged a "special handling"... He was scared and they treated him like he was a nuisance. When I picked him up his trim was a BUZZ CUT. He was shaking and his eyes red probably from crying. They then proceeded to charge me almost 80 DOLLARS! Again a FIVE POUND PUPPY. I've never come close to this price even with my larger dogs at other groomers. The groomer Stephanie was cold and condescending. Never going again. Lost a customer. Those groomers jobs/ licenses should be revoked. Wish I could give a ZERO rating. read more

These groomers work hard! The grooming staff is very nice, professional and approachable. They care about our pets unlike Petco. Despite some mishaps, where they've aggravated me and Im sure I totally aggravate them, they're a great salon. They give clean cuts and my dogs look fantastic each time. They're a smart lot of women and men (I primarily only know the women). I totally appreciate them. If they suspect something they'll step to you about it. The groomers confronted me a few times, asking questions to make sure my pet is all good and I'm aware of the issue. This reinforced my respect because it means they're paying attention to their clients. All I care about is that my dogs are cared for and treated with respect. I hope when I walk out that door they treat my babies well. I think they do. read more

I am usually not the type of person to comment or review places but this time I personally feel like i have to! A couple days ago I took my cat to get his nails trimmed because he tends to scratch when playing. Not because he actually wants to hurt someone. Im definitely not saying that the employees were not nice but two minutes after I drop him off, they call me to pick him up because he was hissing and biting. Now I understand that it might be scary but if its your job to deal with animals in general, a one year old cat should not be scaring you. Also I realized that right after i pick him up his meows got louder and it sounded like he was /crying hurting. I looked everywhere to see if theres a cut or something and I figured what was it this morning. When I was playing with him I realized he had a little piece of skin peeled off on his neck and i Immediately search for the reason. And there it is a bloody kind of like a cut wound. He didn't even let me touch there l ( im thinking it was painful). I am 100% sure that he didn't had that wound before I dropped him off because I always try to make sure he doesn't get injured since he plays a lot. Also I really don't understand how can they expect an active/ health cat to not get scared of being around with non-familiar faces and them trying to cut his nails. Of course he will get scared and that's exactly why I brought him to you thinking they would be able to control him without hurting him! I was definitely wrong. I know the wound doesn't look clear in the picture but he wont even lift his chin up for me to look at it. But at least the peeled skin is showing. read more

This PetSmart is physically smaller than the one by Smithtown Mall, but it is cleaner and more upscale. They seem to have more stuff on the shelves, so maybe it's just more compact. I can't speak too much to their cat/dog/bird supplies, but they did have several groomers working when I walked in. However, their selection of reptile, amphibian, fish, and hermit crab products is much larger compared to the Smithtown location, both in terms of numbers/types of products and the number of brands carried. On the day I visited, I found the staff to be very friendly; they were quick to offer help and checkout was fast and efficient. read more

I ordered a product with Petsmarts new partnership with DoorDash to be delivered to my house due to the pandemic. I thought this would be easier and safer, well it has been a terrible waste of my time, DoorDash did not deliver the item, store informed me it was picked up at 4pm and then I received an email claiming that it was delivered at 7:26pm. I was sitting right there next to my front door in my living room, no one ever came, not even down the block, so then it took 2 phone calls and 45 mins of my time for Petsmart to tell my they would do me a one time courtesy of refunding me and now I'm at the store going in to purchase it. Terrible service. Nasty customer service. Can I suggest Chewy? They're awesome! Buyer beware, they don't care about their customers, they just want your money! Love Chewy!! I was spoken to disrespectfully, was talked to like they were doing me a favor, I really try hard not to go back to stores that treat me poorly. They acted like it wasn't their problem, but it is, because I can't control for what your business does, that's your job. I have been a customer for 8 years and I won't be back. Save your dog the stress and do not take them to get their nails clipped here!! I brought my 4 year old Doxie mix to the grooming salon in the Petsmart located in Port Jefferson, NY. I am extremely displeased with the service I was provided, to say the least. I have brought her to another Petsmart location several times and we have never had a problem. The groomers have always been polite and my dog has done fine with getting her nails trimmed. Today, I asked to have her anal glands cleaned and nails trimmed. The groomer helping me replied, "would you like to have them filed instead, it's faster and they come out smoother." I said sure, we'd give it a try. When the girl went to take My dog to the back, she was a little afraid to go. The groomer started dragging her back by her harness, instead of picking her up. I walked around the store for a few minutes and when I came back, there were about 4 grooming employees standing around her and she was standing on the bench being cleaned by one groomer. The groomer then tapped on the window glass to get my attention and waved me to come inside. The girl said, there's an extra $7 handling fee because it took three people to hold her down while we filed her nails. Wait, it took three adults to hold down a dachshund? I was shocked, when I came over to see her, no one was "holding her down" and she was not trying to bite anyone. The only thing I could think is that she might have been frightened of the nail grinder, as we've always just had her nails trimmed. What I don't understand is how can a professional hold down a dog and force her to get her nails ground down. If she was so frightened that they felt they needed to hold her down, why wouldn't they just stop and trim them instead? These people are supposed to be trained professionals but that doesn't seem professional to me. I expressed my concern to the grooming staff and again to the cashier, and they both just stared at me blankly, offering me no peace of mind. I went to the store for a service that should have cost $9 nail trimming and $10 gland cleaning for a total of $19 and wound up having to pay $29 instead ($3 extra to grind the nails, $7 for the handling fee). The groomer should not suggest that you get a nail grind unless they can handle providing the service! I think the grooming staff at this location is extremely unprofessional and I will never do business there again. In fact, this day has left such a sour taste in my mouth that I am considering never doing business with Petsmart again. I invested in a pair of nail clippers and have been doing her nails at home. She has never once tried to bite me. However, she is afraid to go into Petsmart now they they traumatized her in the grooming salon. read more

This review is only for the overall store and Doggy Day Camp. I have not tried any other services by them. I had to leave my puppy for the first time and I didn't want him to be locked up in a cage all day. Luckily PetSmart has a Day Camp where dogs can play with each other in an indoor playground type place. I thought it was great since it would be his first time socializing. When I went to pick him up, they give you a "report card" on how well your dog did which I think is very useful. They tell you things like how much he ate, how well he slept, and how well he got along with the other dogs. Then they write a personal note about the dogs' stay. I find that very useful. The people at the Day Camp desk are very nice and you can tell they really love dogs. They always treat your dog nicely when you hand them off. Petting him and telling him he's a good boy. I always take my dog to them now whenever I need to go someplace. It feels nice knowing hes having lots of fun. The store itself is nice. They have nice sales and the cashiers are nice too. I like the fact that they host adoption events there. read more

Love the store, the training and cashier employees are great. Their grooming department, however, leaves a lot to be desired. I brought my dog here shortly after I adopted her to get the "shelter stink" off her. I was not sure how she would handle being fussed with and wanted the professionals do it before I started doing her nails. I also wanted them to let me know if they saw any issues (ear infection, tooth infection, etc) to mention to my vet at her first appointment. The groomer said she understood and would give me a detailed report. When I picked her up my groomer was no longer there, it was a busy day and i understand. The pawgress report told me I should have no concerns as far as cutting her nails myself and that her ears and teeth were very healthy. A few days later I took her to my vet who found several of her larger teether were black and dead. He said by the way they looked it had been like that for several months and there was no way the groomer had brushed them as they were very painful to the touch. I was not pleased and had a sneaking suspicion they feared her since she was a pitbull. Since then I bathe her myself and clean her ears but she developed long nails which I could not cut further due to the blood vessels. I decided to bring her in for the walk in grinding service to reduce the quick without me spending $75 on a grinder of my own. I had cut her nails many times in the past without issue or concern but she does like to lick and jump around. I told them should they need to muzzle her to get her out of their faces that would be fine. The first 2 times I watched to make sure they did it right. She was easy and did not require a muzzle. The next few times I did not watch but I noticed some of her nails were not done afterward. I brought her in weekly for 3 months, then one day they told me I needed to handle her more because she needed a muzzle this time. I apologized and assumed it was an off day for her. The next time I made sure she was in a good mood before bringing her and told the groomer she had an issue last time but was fine all the other times. She said I would be charged 2x the normal amount if she needed extra work like a muzzle or restraint. I stupidly agreed. It took a long time for them to call me then I was told I would be charged $25 because she was so naughty. I paid, since the damage was already done. When I got to my car I noticed they didn't even touch her front feet and ground the back to stubs. She was also panting excessively and bleeding from her dew claws. I paid $25 for that. I am very upset and I have a feeling they are the reason my dog does not tolerate nail cutting anymore. It took a lot of training to make her comfortable with nail grindings again which was not an issue before I started letting them do it. read more

It's an adequate store, lots of dog and cat toys, adequate food/brand name selections. Generally a bit overpriced. (Petco and Pet Smart have better selections and prices.) I Don't use the grooming division so my review is of the main floor and sales staff. Ahhh yes, - the sales staff... everyone except for one cashier is nice and helpful, this silver haired 'mature', (only in age), lady chooses who she wants to wait on and who she decides should wait even though the store is empty! Needless to say the condescending & ice cold attitude come out depending on the customer even if it's a first time customer as I was. Not sure if it's a racial thing or whether she's just tired and frustrated in her job. Nepotism anyone?... In any event instead of the 3 stars I was going to give to this adequate store, this representative has earned this PetSmart a minus 2, therefore my unfortunate rating of 1 star. read more

I use to use the Commack location for my dogs grooming but since I moved out east I have used their Port Jeff station store. I will never go back! This is the second time that I had to wait 5 hours for my 22lb Cocker spaniel to be groomed. I booked the appt online a week ahead of time and the appt was confirmed go in at 12:30 be out at 3:30. When I questioned why at 4:00 pm my dog had NOT even started to be groomed, one of the groomers got nasty. Excuse me, but I am paying you $58.00 and you have an attitude? Complaining to the store manager was a waste of time. And the worst part is the top of her head wasn't groomed! never will go back. read more

Great store in Port Jefferson Station, although it would be better if it offered Banfield Veterinary Clinic, Doggie Day Camp, and their PetsHotel. Prices are fair with many coupons and sales. My dog Sammy loves going to the store to walk around. They are great with him. He took 2 yrs of training in all different levels with Nicole who was wonderful. She moved on, but I imagine the trainers there now are very qualified, Recently the groomers we used for Sammy left. They were very good, but very expensive. I assume the groomers there now are good. I also assume the prices are still high. Our Cockamo who is very good with them, usually cost about $120. Our Dorgi who is also very good with them cost around $75. We get the skin treatment, etc. so there is a lot they do for the dogs, but still is a bit high priced in my opinion. It is a very clean store and the workers always seem to be nice. We have used the Nesconset Store by the mall and many of their services, They have also been wonderful when we are there shopping. I highly recommend both the Pt. Jeff. Sta. and Nesconset store. 5 stars for the retail part of the store. 1 point off for grooming service prices. read more

I have been shopping at this location since it opened and generally the staff has been friendly and helpful. i used to get my cat food here but they cut down on the variety. I do not blame the staff for this as this had to be a corporate decision. however I went in to get my dogs nails cut and ears cleaned out and found out that the grooming staff decided to leave early. I checked the website before I went as my dog does not like car rides and it said that the grooming salon was open 7am to 9pm. When I got there and saw the lights off I went and asked a staff member if there was someone there and she said that they for some reason decided to come in super early so they left super early. She then said it would be better to come in around 10am. The problem is that myself nor my wife can always do this. That is why stores show open to close times. This seems to me that management is poor at this location. It is not fair to show times and not be there. The expectation for customers is that someone will be there at the schedule time and not worry that the staff decided for whatever reason to neglect the time they are supposed to be there read more
