Renting with APT212 is an adventure from the very start. Entering the apartment we found dirty plates and pans with food stains in the cupboards. After cleaning we decided to cook something, only to find out there was no way to let any cooking fumes out. No worries, just make sure you have a fan pointed directly at all the smoke detectors at the same time should do the trick! After a couple of days the electronic locks on the door started malfunctioning. APT212 was unresponsive while a roommate wasn't able to enter her room where her medication was. We had to call a locksmith to let her in. They responded 2 days later. When they did show up they also decided to enter a roommates room without permission and take furniture. Nice privacy! Maintenance overall was late or made a mess. Upon painting the place they decided that my Sonos speaker could also use some paint. Thanks! In short: for a place that is almost $2000 a month without heat most of the time, my one star goes out to the homeless guy sleeping in the hallway because the frontdoor didn't close properly. I took a semester at NYU and didn't want to sign a long term lease for a short stay. I looked into air bnb and it was way out my price range. I looked at hotels, short lease rentals, anything that I could think of, but I couldn't find a good fit personally and financially. Avoid at all cost! I went through this broker to rent an apartment for a three months period. We have had to go through a lot of problems during our stay. First, know that Apt212 and MySohoLoft are the same companies. Among other things: - Hidden fees and costs, they will keep most of your security deposit for obscure reasons. - Toilets in most apartments (have friends who went through the same broker) don't work and despite our complaints, nothing was fixed in 3 months. - Other tenants. We have had 3 persons moving in in the same room in our apartment without Apt212 noticing or even caring about it. Another was a real pain. In short, expect rude people as flatmates. - They will show your room on holidays or weekends without giving you notice. - If you plan on renting without visiting the apartment, they also can give you a room that has nothing to do with the one on the picture. - I am still in the process to be reimbursed a $200 locksmith charge (the door lock was broken when I moved in). read more

I went to the office and was called rude names by the account manager, "David Blat" and was bullied into taking my post down. Things start off good. Find a great place in the city, picture look pretty, good price, good address, people friendly. Things change fast. Here are things I experience. 1 - Apartment not look good as pictures. Some appliance broken too. Glad I visit in person. 2 - They give me different agent than I speak with on phone. None of them have license, but some agent do have license. From my personal experience, this is a very good broker agency. I started looking for a three-month rental several weeks ago for a friend of mine who wanted to come to NYC for internship this summer. The broker I met, Margaret, helped me a lot all the way. Cause my friend didn't have a big budget, Margaret gave me so many options based on our requirement and showed me at least 10 apartments in a week. I was really impressed by her enthusiasm and patience. And I have to say that the one my friend finally chose was totally satisfactory. Very good location, close to SOHO and Chinatown, convenient transportation. Although it's a little bit higher than my friend's budget, but we both think that it's absolutely worth it. Overall, it's a pretty good experience with them and it did help me find what I was looking for. read more

Worst experience in NY.... I cannot agree more with the previous bad reviews which sum up my experience with APT 212. The experience started well, with visits of the apartment at our convenience while in construction, but once we gave the deposit and paid upfront, things started to get bad.. To sum up: no heat during winter, visits every single day without knocking to our doors, poor service, and a constant threat to get kicked out. Staff = manipulative. Through out the whole renting and living process, Apt 212 was very polite and responded back to me really quick whenever there is a problem. However, the living condition of the apartment was terrible. The bathroom was not only clogged but filled with stain, Kitchen floor was also stained and the apartment was infested with roaches. They promised in the contract that they have a cleaning service. However, the only thing that they do is to clear out your left over stuff right after you moved out. Not to mention the hidden fee behind the deposit. Bottom line, it was stressful living there. read more

APT212 helped me through my tough time when I moved to New York several years ago. It's a small but warm&cozy apt in upper east side of Manhattan. I really appreciate the effort they put into the apt hunting cause to be honest, I'm a pretty picky guy regarding the accommodation. Luckily they found that apt which almost met every requirements I had. They even bargained a discount on the deposit for me cause I was short of money back then. That's very nice of them. Even though I didn't live in the apt anymore, I still keep in touch with them. You never know when you gonna need such a helpful agent especially in places like New York. I've never written a review before and hope I don't ever have to again. I thought I should for this one as I'd hate for someone to have this same experience. Once they take your money, watch out! Here is a really short recap of what happened and how I lost a lot of money through these guys by no fault of my own. Consider all this happened while I sent email upon email and called countlessly only to never be responded to. - Security deposit returned over 2 weeks late. Cost me money. I chase an update several times. No response. - Incorrect charge for an alleged 'removal' of an AC unit from my room - this never happened even though I had asked because I was freezing all winter. I emailed letting them know. No response about refunding the incorrect charges. - Security deposit bounces not once, but twice - costs me money for no reason. I ask for a refund because it's an issue on their end. Radio silence. - During my stay we didn't have a functioning shower for over a week so had to pay for a gym membership to access one. I was also constantly there helping the maintenance guy. We were told we would be compensated for this basic necessity. Three months later. Nothing. I finally get my check - it goes through but I am not compensated for their inability to manage their business. After calling several times and emailing, I still never got a response back. I would have been fine if they even just returned the incorrect charges and just let me know what the status was for the compensation. Pretty ridiculous I think. read more

Dear potential customer, I was in New York for two month and rented a room in an apartment with Apt212 and I was more than disappointed and so were my roommates. I think it is a disgrace how bad apt212 customer service is. In the beginning they were very pushy for me to move in and tried to convince me by sending me texts and emails. However, once I moved in I was hardly able to reach them when we had a problem. Unfortunately, we did have a lot of problem due to the poor condition of the apartment. To mention just some examples: - The sink in the bathroom was clogged for 8 days and therefore not usable - I couldn't close the door to my room and neither the door to the bathroom - The heating was so loud that I couldn't sleep through the night - Hot and cold regulation in the shower did not work properly - The lights in my room didn't work -Cigarettes and toilet paper on the floor of the terrace when I moved in I do understand that sometime issues can occure, but then I would expect apt212 to provide a well functioning customer service and send someone to fix the issues. However, they completely failed in doing so. They told us that they were to busy to help us since they had to deal with other issues in different appartements... which says a lot. Probably the most frustrating short-term rental service I have ever dealt with. AVOID at all costs. The company attempted to steal thousands of dollars from us during the COVID-19 pandemic. Essentially we were no longer able to live in the prospective unit in NYC because of COVID-19, but we had paid a large deposit to reserve the unit a few months before. APT-212 did not operate in good faith and knowingly engaged in potentially illegal conduct to try and retain a large portion of the deposit despite COVID-19 preventing fulfillment of our agreement. Only after weeks of tense and hostile exchanges were we able to retrieve the majority of our deposit back. Additionally, upon finally agreeing on an acceptable refund amount, the company provided an unreasonable release form intended to restrict us from informing other potential customers of APT212's deceit and misconduct towards us during our dealings with the company. read more

I rented an apartment from APT212 and it has been the worst experience. So many violations are in my apartment and the living conditions are terrible and filthy including cockroaches in my bed and mice in my kitchen. When I asked about it, they laughed and hung up on me. Seriously, I would NEVER recommend this agency to anyone. Also it was my first time apartment renter and of course I had a ton of questions and every time I asked one, it was like I was a burden to them. I got eye rolls like they couldn't get rid of me or something. Sorry for being nervous to pay a broker fee, all the hidden fees such as background check and cleaning fees, first and last month rent AND security deposit (another months rent) all at once. $5,000 leaving my account all right then. Just for terrible service. ALSO- when I complained about something needing fixing, I was reminded that apartments are rented "AS IS" and anything after is my problem. Awful rental experience. The entire APT212 operation treads lightly on the edge of legality. First off the lease that they make you sign is essentially against all tenant laws in NYC, NY State, and the United States. There are clauses that state that violations of your lease (i.e. anything that they can make up saying that you violated the lease) can call for early termination of the lease agreement and eviction. In fact, the lease agreement says that APT212 (or their shell corporation Soho Lofts) can evict you in one day's notice without going through proper paperwork or eviction court. Of course this is not legal but.... They will use their practices of threatening tenants and lying incessantly to you to get you out so that they can double-rent the apartment. At one point, APT212 actually threatened us via phone to leave the apartment and sent an 'associate' to the door of our rental apartment (very scary stuff for people who have nowhere else to go in NYC and have never lived there before). We did not let him in. The main 'realtor' in charge seemed to be 'David Blatt' (he was also the one who called and threatened us if we were to not vacate the premises by the next morning. We didn't and he did nothing. Just empty threats). We still are unsure of if David Blatt is his actual name or just the ingenious alias he made up from the name of the Cleveland Cavaliers coach. Finally, they attempted to force us into signing a settlement agreement to release the remaining portion of our security deposit to us.. which we rightfully deserved and which they deducted unknown costs for 'utilities' out of (receipts of utilities which we never saw). Part of this settlement included a portion that stated we couldn't post 'disparaging remarks' about APT212 online or to anyone in any way, shape or form. The terms of which our statements could be determined as 'disparaging' were quite vague BUT WE WOULD BE SUBJECT TO a $500 FINE EVERY TIME IT WAS DEEMED SUCH COMMENTS OCCURRED... We declined of course (so that we could post this warning to other future tenants - I don't want you to get yourself into the same nightmarish situation as us) and it wasn't until the NY attorney general's office contacted APT212 that they removed that part of the settlement agreement and we were returned our money (over 3 months late w/out interest). Bottomline: This is a shady operation you don't want to get involved with. Once you pay your initial security deposit/commission, a commission that varies by customer since they have no set % rule that they use for clients, you are screwed. They will try to withhold your security deposit and threaten to 'sue' you with broken English emails. The fact that they even call upon the legal system that they fail to abide by to threaten tenants and clients is laughable. Do yourself a favor and stay away. The reviews on this page that are positive are fabricated by APT212 staff. People who have posted on this page negatively also have been threatened by APT212 with legal action (like they even understand first amendment rights). read more

I work in construction and had to relocate to New York for a short period for a project. Hotels seemed to be out of my price range, so I looked on airbnb but it was still a little high. After some research and eventually a recommendation from a friend, I contacted APT212. They provided exactly what I was looking for. I didn't need to sign a long lease but I was able to stay at a very comfortable furnished apartment for several months. The price was better than any other option I looked at, I wasn't locked into anything, and didn't need to worry about purchasing furniture so it really helped my moving process. Most of the staff was very courteous, but more importantly they got it done when I needed them to. If you're in my situation and looking for something for a couple months, APT212 is a very good option. read more
