Over-priced, over-salted, over-cooked, frozen and microwaved, typical chain garbage. Why people continue to go to any of these places is beyond me, and why people come to these places expecting anything but a terrible, over-priced meal is totally beyond me. The only good things I can say is that this location is kid-friendly, spaced out well so that you can bring your kids and feel comfortable if they act up a little. The servers have always been friendly for the most part. To the guy who had a problem with his wife's ID at the bar, the manager must be a total imbecile and I don't know how he can even function in life. I'm a former attorney, and when somebody says "PA is a commonwealth state" to go on about the laws is a pet peeve of mine and irks me. It shows a total lack of knowledge. That's like saying PA is a state state. Comonwealth and State are distinctions in name only, and states who use the term commonwealth do so out of preference, usually rooted in tradition. It has N O T H I N G and I mean NOTHING to do with the laws, absolutely, positively nothing. I wish that commonwealth state thing regarding laws would die a painful death because it is so incorrect that it infuriates me. That said, acceptable forms of ID in PA are a valid Passport, government issued ID from any US State, and a US military ID. So, your wife should have been served. This is the same in just about every other state, and PA does this because its lawmakers deemed it appropriate, not because PA chooses to call itself a Commonwealth out of preference and tradition. I'm too old to be carded, but my wife is 25 and looks younger, now I want to bring her in there with her passport and go to the bar and ask for the idiot manager and tear into him when he pulls that, and what is acceptable to do would be call the Dickson City Police to come and resolve the dispute, which would not end in the manager's favor. I guess there are various reasons why this location is so poorly rated and now I add my own to the parade of the dissatisfied. My wife and I enjoy eating at applebees in New York and expected much the same in Scranton. We decided to sit at the bar and order drinks before food. The bartender asked for our ID's and we gave them to her. Mine is a NY drivers license and hers a Russian passport. The bartender disappeared for 5 minutes with them and then came back saying she couldn't serve my wife. I asked to speak to Scott Crook the general manager. He came out with a book and started spouting nonsense about how Pennsylvania was a Commonwealth state and therefore had specific rules about acceptable ID. He then produced a book (published by a private company) and said if it's not in the book then it's against the law to serve alcohol. That just seemed ridiculous that a state would make it illegal to serve alcohol to any foreigner. So I did a quick check on Pennsylvania website and of course there it was clearly stated that foreign passports were valid ID. I showed this to Scott and he immediately backtracked and made up some corporate policy excuse. I called applebees and they immediately stated that they have no such policy and they would immediately look into it. It's pretty obvious that the general manager Scott Crook is just ignorant and biased (not to mention a liar) and decided he didn't want to have us in the restaurant and willing to use whatever reason. We of course will not be returning and suggest you do the same. read more

Food was very good. I got the shrimp and sirloin with the Parmesan sauce. Steak was cooked perfect. Waitress (Courtney M) was great and kept coming to check on us. She seemed very nice and was very attentive. We had a technological issue with the little computer at the table. My boyfriend, for some reason, didn't want to put the tip on the gift card and thought he'd be able to put in a tip with a debit card after using the gift card. That was not the case with the little computer on the table, so he went to go to the ATM inside the mall, since he had already hit the "confirm" button on the computer. Unfortunately, the mall was actually closed, so he couldn't do that. We also didn't have any cash on us, either. We explained what happened to the waitress, and she actually told us it was fine and to have a nice day, despite that we bought $70 worth a food and were unable to leave a tip. If we come back again, and especially if we get the same waitress by chance, I'm going to try to give her a *very* good tip. read more

Salty food and salty service. This was a dining choice borne purely of convenience and it failed to live up to my already low expectations. Since this visit was just for a snack, we settled on an appetizer sampler. It included spinach & artichoke dip, cheese quesadillas, mozzarella sticks, Buffalo chicken bites and tortilla chips. The "Honey Pepper Grill" promotion lures you in with a full size laminated trifold menu loaded with photos, then offers just three items from which to choose. The mojitos were okay ($6.50) if rather weak. They apparently shake the mint instead of muddling it which leaves it shredded. They charge nearly as much ($6.25) for a Sam Adams draft. When the platter arrived, there was a large gaping space on one side. I inquired as to whether the kitchen had left off one of the items I'd noticed in a menu photograph. The bartender screeched back that the item I'd seen is actually part of the appetizer trio. Pardon me. Also, having a half dozen staff members lined up against the wall gazing in our general direction was unpleasant. Celery accompanying the Buffalo bites looked as if it had been cut several days ago and left out uncovered; the shriveled, greyed ends were a dead giveaway. The tortilla chips were the saltiest I've ever encountered. My knife was dirty. Prices feel surprisingly high considering the quality of the food, though they do offer a "2 for $20" deal that offers value compared to a la carte ordering. The atmosphere is straight out of the '90s when placing assorted objects on the walls was the height of casual American chain dining decor. In its league and in the vicinity, it's at the bottom of an already underwhelming heap. Just go to Ruby Tuesday around the corner if you're looking for this type of dining - at least they deliver on freshness and offer better pricing in a nicer atmosphere. read more

On 1-11-2020 my daughter chose Applebee's for her birthday dinner. When we first arrived which was approx 5:30, we were told there was a 30 minute wait. However, when we left for a bit, I noticed the entire back area was empty. 30 mins later we were seated and our server promptly came over to take our drink orders. I had the Shark Tank which was the best i ever had. It had just the right amt of rum. Pure perfection. My husband, daughter, and I ordered the all you can eat entrees which were very good. I had the boneless wing bites, my husband the shrimp, my daughter the riblets. All delicious. Don't remember what everyone else had. Our server was great, anything we needed, he got. Since it was our daughters birthday, we informed our server. At the end of the night, the staff came out and sang Happy Birthday to her and she got a complimentary ice cream. Over all, I was very happy with our experience at this establishment. read more

Food very average. Nothing really delicious, except the dessert. We loved our tiny brownie bite and shot glass sundae except it didn't have a cherry on top or enough fudge. What really annoyed me was the $1.99 charge for a video game that I didn't play. I clicked on it to play trivia, but another game up, so I clicked on it and tried to play but it actually wouldn't let me so I didn't really care and I turned it around. I had no idea I got charged for playing the game at all, but esp. when I didn't even play anything! Then, to see the charge on my bill was shocking! Great service and food. Our server Danielle was very busy when we were seated. (She had 4 tables seated in her section in 5 minutes) The manager pitched in and greeted us and got our drink order right away. Danielle was able to answer all our questions and was friendly and efficient. Food came out quickly and was as expected. Applebee's has a few different promotions going on that are pretty decent. The 2 for $20 menu and half price appetizer after 9pm are good if your short on cash for the week and looking to go out to eat. The food is your typical big chain restaurant menu with a few healthy choices for the health conscious. This particular Applebee's has been a staple of the Viewmont Mall since I was a child. Came to Applebee's to celebrate my daughter's birthday. I had shrimp and steak with garlic fries. My daughter had chicken and shrimp with potatoes. My son cowboy burger and fries and husband chicken penne pasta & Fiesta lime chicken with buffalo wings. The food was on point and our Courtney our waitress was great. This is by far the worst Applebee's I've ever been to! My boyfriend and I have gone twice and both times experienced awful service. During our second visit, we ordered an appetizer along with our meals and the appetizer didn't come until we were halfway done our meal! Our waiter apologized and asked if they could do anything but we politely declined. Then the manager came by as well, apologized, and gave us a free Applebee's gift card. I then proceeded to try and use the gift card at another Applebee's location and my waiter informed me there was nothing on the gift card! What a scam! Don't ever go to this Applebee's ever! This place was horrible. Our waitress was all over the place. She was running around frazzled the whole time. It took forever to get our orders. After she served us each a $1 Bahama Mama, she told us she couldn't get us any other drinks until we finished those so naturally we chugged them. After that first drink she told us we were only going to be allowed to order two more drinks each and then we couldn't drink anymore. Like who goes to an Applebee's at 11:00 to eat? Hubby and I went to Applebee's to have dinner... We asked for our usual dinner and water with lemon... We were brought out 2 glasses of ice and two bottles of water... I told the waiter I didn't order bottled water and he said there was a boil alert in Scranton and they were " just trying to keep us healthy" ... on the bill was $4 charge for the water... server said he was following protocol.... So two glasses of water... at @ 2 each plus tax, plus tip.... cost us near 5 dollars for water... Didn't want the water in bottle.... didn't ask for water in bottle... got charged anyway.... Manager didn't even look at us as I asked why? We left... Now I am writing to Home Office and get my money back... Shame on Applebees for not notifying customers of water situation...we could just as easily gone elsewhere... read more

I had a lovely mean and time with my family! Especially because of a talented friendly and amazing server(waitress) named Foxy. She was fantastic, and made us feel at home.... Then I went to the bathroom with my two year old daughter so I could change her. There was an employee in the bigger bathroom absolutely in tears. Sobbing. I mean ugly crying to her mom. I was changing my daughter and the poor girl was loud. So I heard everything. Apparently a male manager had screamed at her, made her less than human and had made fun of her crying. I stormed out found the first male manager I could and told him, if it was him, that behavior is unacceptable. He seemed very understanding as promised to take care of the girl(I hope take care as In a human being, and not firing her) I truly hope he kept his promise and took good care of her. People in management have no place bringing their low self esteem and bullying behaviors to work. The man who did this should be publicly shamed and fired. read more

My wife was in there today with my youngest son (one year old). They were out doing some errands/shopping and decided to stop for lunch. First of all, yes they have been going a good portion of the day and my son was tired and hungry. It happens with young children. He got loud, and my wife tried her best to calm him until their food arrived. When their food finally arrived, the server accompanied the food with the check and the words "no rush". My wife is a server herself, and would NEVER give the customer the check with their bill unless they ask for it. That is BY FAR the rudest thing I've ever heard of a server doing. Don't worry, my wife got the hint. She didn't eat, but she took her meal to go and left. I understand that young children can be distracting at times. I also understand that it can be "distracting" to other customers. However, to essentially ask a customer to leave with their child like that is above and beyond what's right. Thank you, Applebees of Viewmont Mall, for reducing our choices of places to eat by one more. We will NEVER be back. read more
