Our experience could have been better. The front desk staff is amazing but the doctor was an interesting experience. I was informed that she specializes in children. However, they should have said certain children. My child has developmental issues, which the Dr. tried to suggest twice as autism (which was troubling seeing that area of expertise is not her field). Although I told her he is not autistic but does have developmental delays. My son had a difficult time getting his eyes checked but he was doing his best. What bothered me the most, is when she went to dilate his eyes. He was scared and screamed. She covered his mouth. I was appalled and wanted to walk out immediately. How can your staff say the doctor specializes in working with children but doesn't use any techniques to calm/console a nervous child. At that moment, I decided we would not return. read more

I diligently on-line researched and called many places looking for a good, nearby "forever" optometrist for my elderly friend, D. My process ended when I wound up speaking with a very nice, informative person at Apple. After spending several minutes on the phone, I asked who I was speaking with. It was, surprisingly, Dr. Carol. I booked D's appointment immediately. The next day, we arrived on time for D's 4:30 appointment and didn't leave until 7 p.m.! Dr. Carol was soooo patient, kind and thorough with my friend. D has/had multiple vision problems including macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal detachments, cataracts, extreme myopia and astigmatism. D is often slow and/or confused when answering questions. When it comes to vision, D is about the most challenging patient imaginable. Despite D's extensive complications, Dr. Carol patiently navigated through every issue, did multiple tests and cross-checked D's inconsistent responses. Dr. C's specialization in children is perfect for the elderly. She went waaaay beyond an eye test and the basics. The entire office staff is nice, helpful and accommodating. This isn't just an optometrist's office, it's a cocoon of happiness that just happens to be in the vision business. I cannot thank Dr. Carol and staff enough for everything! Apple Optometry is D's optometrist for life. I'm a bit picky with glasses since my face is long and square shaped. When I walked in, Hermineh is sitting at the desk to greet you with a smile and friendly service. Carol, the optometrist, gave me my check up for my eyes. She was professional and had excellent bedside manners and explained exactly what I needed in order to see clearly with my new glasses. Because of my prescription, we had to order out of the store but got them within 3 days of my check up. After going to Costco for many years, I decided to try AO because of the good reviews. Their office is very clean and has tons of quality frames to choose from. They also have such modern machines to 'test' your eyes. Unfortunately, because I have such a special/wonky prescription Ive had to trial numerous contacts and bring in back my frames to get them changed (initial prescription didnt work out). But nonetheless, I am very impressed with this place. The staff is so kind and amazing. Dr. Carol was so patient with me when I was trying on a billion contacts and I could tell she was striving to make sure I was happy and content with the right lenses/contacts. I even jokingly said that in order for me to test out my vision, I needed to watch Netflix... so Dr. Carol went straight to her ipad and played a movie for me! Dr. Miriam was fantastic. Sadly, the frame selection was really limited compared to other places. On top of that, they carried only one mid priced brand while the rest were luxury... Should have been the other way around. Our regular provider was no longer in network which was the reason I came here with the family but when quoted lense treatments, it was even higher even though Apple is in network! Finally, opticians are equally important as the eye doctor, but they really lack experience with fitting frames. They adjusted as requested, but it was lacking. read more

Neighborhood optometrist with a high class feel. Honestly I dread going to the optometrist. I have trouble getting fitted for contacts, they end up hurting my eyes, and tend to be more trouble than they're worth. I also usually walk out with glasses that I feel alright about, but nothing stellar. Dr. Kochkarian is an amazing doctor. He explained every part of the process to me and answered all my questions about my eye health. I've been wearing glasses for 15 years and this was the first time a doctor actually took the time to answer my questions. He promised me he would find a good fit for my contacts, and he did. I finally have contacts that I can actually wear all day. The process was painless and fun. Then it came to getting my new glasses. The staff assisted me with all different kinds, until I found the perfect ones. The staff member actually took the time to give her honest opinion on the glasses and how they fit my face. Do not go here. The optometrists overprice all their products and prices here. Recently they even started selling Halloween contacts by a particular brand that retails at around 30-40$ online. Since I didn't order mine online in time I figured I'd stop by here but to my surprise they tried to scam me into paying 100$ for these contacts. How dare an optometrist try and pull a stunt like that. Must be in a pinch for money or maybe they're just greedy. Nonetheless, it's bad business. read more

$1676.00 for a pair of glasses@#$! See invoice below... I'm a 48 year old math teacher and until recently my eyes started going out on me. I was having difficulty with tying fishing knots, and I was having a hard time reading the fine detail in my textbooks. I went to Apple Optometry, which is right around the corner from me in Chatsworth, to get my eye exam. This was my first experience with an optometrist. My insurance only covered my basic eye exam. After part 1of 2 of my eye exams the lady at the counter helped me select a pair of glasses that would fit my needs. I went back into the exam room to get another exam; they wanted to look at the back of my eyes. I was interested in the new drops that can help with seeing up close. The doctor gave her option on the drops, but said I would have to schedule another appointment to determine if I was a candidate for the eye drops. Anyways, throughout this whole process PRICE was not mentioned at all. Only when I was about to leave and pay, they slapped a $989.00 bill (not including exam) at me for a pair of Progressive Glasses ( Later found out they were Nike brand). I thought this was high, but again this is my first experience with an eye doctor. They lady at the counter said with very little motivation, that we can go through and look at the cheaper glasses, which I didn't, I just wanted out. I ended up paying half then and I was going to pay the other half when I picked up my glasses. I went home and discusses my experience with my wife and friends ( one being an optometrist in Valencia). I told them how much I paid and they all said I was taken advantage of. I confirmed with my friend who is an optometrist and he also said I paid way too much for these glasses; well he actually said I got a** raped. He said the average of cost for a pair of progressives is around $600. We'll this math teacher got taken advantage of and I will not go back. Two weeks later I still have not even received a receipt, so I can't even break down the price. I called the office today to get a receipt, but they said I'll have to wait till tomorrow and they can send me my receipt. It's too bad that most businesses today, even medical, have a Used Car Salesmen mentality. I've been a teacher for 21 year now; I do it for the kids and when I get taken advantage like this, it makes me very sad that there are people in this world who will do anything to make an extra buck. _______________________________________________ On 7/28 So I got my receipt back and here's the real damage. My insurance did cover about 35% of the cost, so in addition to paying $989.00 my insurance dished out another $687.00. (math does not make sense;35%?) A great comfortable place to get glasses with friendly people that know their stuff backwards and forwards. I was very impressed with their knowledge and professionalism. Incredibly they were able to find me super comfortable quality frames on the first go round based on my taste. Usually I have to go through a half dozen frames till I find a frame that feels right. I especially like their lenses that are much more high quality that I've experienced at other optometrists and they make my eyes feel less dry and more natural than lenses I've had before. Apple Optometry was able to essentially make me a pair of custom sun glass lenses for a particular Nike sun glass frame that is no longer available which other Optometrists said was impossible. It wasn't cheap but you pay for the impossible! Prices overall are reasonable. Not cheap but not sky high either. Next time you need glasses or have a change in prescription, I totally recommend Apple Optometry. read more
