Custom omelet - 3 eggs, chorizo & jalapeños with jack cheese. Home fries & a side of biscuits and gravy off in the distance.

This is quickly becoming my breakfast go-to spot! Trying other places like Jimmy's Eggs & The Big Biscuit but keep coming back to the Apple Barrel. I always seem to time it right, never had to wait for a seat. Even when there is a short line, there's room at the counter. Open kitchen looks clean & efficient. Waitstaff are always friendly & helpful. What really keeps me coming back is the food. Not only have a never had a bad meal, I've never had an average meal. Always leave happy, thinking about the yummy omelet or the chicken fried steak I just scoffed down! To quote Arnold Schwarzenegger - I'll be back.

Had dinner last night and honestly, one of the worst chicken fried steaks I've ever had. The Wife game me half her cheeseburger so I didn't go hungry. Odd thing is, if any of the three servers took notice of the largely untouched CFS on my plate, they either knew it would suck and knew not to ask how it was, or they didn't care. Either way, I'm pretty much going to eat here for breakfast from now on. I've had too many hit and miss dinners here.

Server Today's server is Megan. She's been ignoring us. And seems more interested in bussing tables than actually being a server. After she finally made her way here. She did an above average job. She should have acknowledged we were here and waiting, come by and introduced herself, and said she'd be back in a few minutes or whatever. Ambiance It's a country themed sit down restaurant. Food Pretty good stuff. I don't think eggs are their Forte. Overall It's okay. Can't say I'm impressed or disappointed overly. Feels very average. Military Yes we got $1.00 off

Oh lord. It was good! The Melt Dawn was the best breakfast dish I've had in a long while! Crispy hash brown as the base with a pile of breakfast meats, cheese and eggs to top it all off. Drool worthy and not for the health conscious individual. However if you like a mountain of breakfast Glory, I highly suggest getting the dish. Our server was kind and sherrie was so sweet. I'd definitely come back!

However, I recently visited the drive-thru only location on Garnett and had a disappointing experience with unclear pricing. I ordered the Fall in Love Latte (20 oz) with half the pumps and was surprised when my total came to $8.21. The posted signage lists 20 oz lattes at $5.25, with "extra flavor" for $0.25, so I expected something closer to that price. After speaking with the manager, I learned that this particular drink includes two sauces and one syrup, each priced separately -- and that "half the pumps" doesn't affect the cost. The manager was very kind and even mentioned that she finds the pricing confusing as well. I completely understand that specialty drinks may cost more, but the current signage and specialty menus don't clearly show how those prices are calculated, which makes it difficult for customers to know what to expect. I also reached out to the owner (on 10/23/24) to share my experience and suggestion for clearer pricing but haven't received a reply as of this review (nearly three weeks later). I'll still stop by Evergreen occasionally -- I do enjoy their drinks and atmosphere -- but in the future, I'll make sure to clarify prices before ordering. Hopefully, they'll consider making their pricing a bit more transparent for everyone.

So doing an update to this one since it's under new management and it deserves a second shot…read more Saw a post on Facebook the other day that this place was under new ownership/management and decided why not. Found myself most of the way there during lunch, so I stopped in for a try. The decor hasn't changed a lot since the last time I was in. Very much the small home town diner vibe. Nothing fancy, simple decorations in a small dining area, maybe seating 40 people in a pinch. Service was prompt and very friendly. I looked over the menu and special board and decided to go with my standard litmus test of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, white gravy and green beans. If you can't do those, you probably can't do anything. Food arrived very quickly and was hot and looked great. The green beans were outstanding. Lots of ham chunks in there along with what must have been diced bacon bites. A very good offering there. The mashed potatoes were scratch made, no doubt. Creamy and well seasoned. Gravy was smooth and had a decent flavor too, not thin, watery or bland. The CFS was probably one of the better ones I've had of late. Easily an 8 out of 10 compared to other places. I asked my server if it was a frozen job or scratch made, and she took pride in telling me it was hand breaded to order. Crust to meat ratio was spot on, with no crust slippage, which is the bane of many CFSs. Good flavor, cooked properly.... almost fork tender. There was a couple of places the connective fibers in the meat were a little too much for the fork, but with a knife, it all cut like butter. With a glass of iced tea and a $5 tip, total ran to just over $22. Maybe a tad higher than I would like, but I certainly feel I got my money's worth, so I ain't complaining. My CC receipt shows the new name as Tay's Place, so I'd recommend being on the lookout for them if you're in the C'ville area, between breakfast and 2pm.

This morning all the booths were filled. The tables were unoccupied. The rules are, pick your spot and get seated, BUT only at a table that has been bussed and has a fresh set up of tableware. Follow the rules and in a jiffy one of the friendly ladies will be there to get your order. Coffees and glasses of Collinsville's finest tap water on ice for my wife and I. The coffee is fair. And Karen's has those thick little coffee mugs. They are perfect. They don't hold a lot, but they do a superb job of keeping the brew hot. A waitress with a pot of coffee is on constant patrol. Your cup won't go empty. The usual for me (check the pictures). My wife had a wonderful blueberry short stack and a side of bacon XXcrispy. My meal was good. The décor is like every small-town diner in Oklahoma. Big menu, daily specials, fair prices. The service is excellent. Friendly welcoming small-town ambiance; everyone in the diner seems to know each other. Politics, the topic of the morning. This is Karen's Country Diner. Fair warning. With that name, if you have a problem, you probably don't want to speak with the manager.
