The answering service says the voice mailbox is full. The business phone numbers appear to be disconnected. We have be trying to get resolution for over a year. They might be on time and clean up after they are finished but it's best to climb under and see what was really done I wonder how many satisfied clients have done that. They did insulation under our house for over$4000. Before they did their work the heating ducts that had been covered with fiberglass batt and a heavy vapor barrier but Sergio, their estimator, said we could do better. After their job these aluminium ducts were left exposed and lost all their heat before reaching the farthest vents- blowing ice cold air into the house. Our bills have skyrocketed. A heating repair service says that's not code. And where is our permit? Was it inspected? Looks like the permit didn't happen. Mr Kennedy said in the spring he'd have workers come out and cover those ducts. Haven't heard from him since. Looks like our only option is trying to go to court. But first we'd have to find him. read more

If I could give more than five stars I would! Apperson helped us with a pretty big upgrade to mini splits. The work was delivered on time and on budget, but the most amazing thing was their focus on the super complicated rebate programs. It is like navigating a bowl of spaghetti! This was a seamless and great experience at a fair and reasonable price. We had 3 bids, 2 of which spent a lot of time upselling a variety of insulation related services. (It was an experience like buying a car). But when we called Apperson and discussed our insulation job, they came out promptly and Vince did an estimate & evaluation. I discussed with Jon Kennedy some of the options others had tried to sell us and through that discussion decided many of the options weren't really necessary or significantly beneficial. We liked the honesty and frankness shown by this company. And the communication process was excellent. So we got their bid, scheduled the work and they put us on the calendar and they were able to flex when we needed to make a date change. Jose and Luis showed up as scheduled and worked tirelessly to remove old and funky blown-in attic insulation, seal air gaps, and install new blown-in insulation. They did some smaller additional related and requested tasks as well. I took a peek and everything looks great. The work site was protected during the job and clean when the job was done. We couldn't have expected more professional or quality work. At the end, Sergio did an energy audit inspection to qualify us for a rebate which was an added bonus. Our old insulation was R-19 and our new insulation is R-44. We're looking forward to a cooler summer and a warmer winter. :) read more

I had an odd experience with Apperson. I phoned and spoke with JK about an attic insulation job on my house. He set up an appointment with an estimator. A few days later, SG came. We discussed the project and options, he took measurements and several pictures, and he gave me his business card. He said I would get the estimate in 2-3 days, and said that they could probably do the work in a couple of weeks. A week went by, and I had heard nothing. So during the following week I messaged on their website twice, texted SG once, and called their office number and left a voice message. No response. It's now been three weeks since SG was here, so I guess the message is that they did a 180, and don't want to do this job. Of course, Apperson has every right to make that business decision. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but responding to my contact attempts and being direct would have been a lot more considerate than just ghosting themselves. read more

Jim and his crews just finished working on my home in Santa Rosa. It was built in 1950 and was in serious need of some energy upgrades. The job encompassed: Home energy audit, new attic and ceiling insulation, new dual pane vinyl windows, new furnace and ducts, new efficient water heater, sealing of all air leaks, and final testing of the home for any air leaks (there were none!!). It was a pleasure to interact with the various work crews. They were professional, efficient, and CLEAN!! I received quick detailed answers to all of my questions during the work. In March 2017, Apperson Energy Management oversaw the installation of a new HVAC system in our home, including new duct work, crawl space insulation and new hot water heater. Jim and his team did a fantastic job. They walked me through their recommendations for equipment, made modifications to accommodate our needs and were generally available for questions. The end result was installation of 2 HVAC units to control different levels of the house, with one unit having split controls to allow for different zones within the home that can be controlled separately (and remotely via phone app). We went from an extremely inefficient circa 1983 system to a highly efficient, split level, split zone system. The installation was very professional and fit within our tight time frame. They also handled all the rebates, which came in at roughly 20% of the total installed cost. We were also very impressed with the firm they use as a subcontractor for the HVAC installation work, who worked closely with us to ensure the placement of venting and overall work was done exactly how we wanted it (and who had very good perspective and recommendations for system needs).. While this was fairly costly work, we could not be happier with the end result. read more

We had a difficult situation with a 3-story home and a single HVAC system that never worked right (downstairs freezing/upstairs boiling) and finally just died. Had a couple firms out to suggest replacement but, before doing so, called Apperson Energy out to do an energy audit. We are SO glad we did! They first came up with a detailed assessment of how our home was leaking energy in some ways (single pane windows, lower floor/crawl space not insulated, etc.) and other ways in which it was performing well. However, as importantly, they were able to suggest repairs that would QUALIFY FOR PG&E REBATES! The deal ($7000 rebate on $20K system) seemed too good to be true but it played out exactly as Jim Apperson (whom I've never met in person) said it would. Note: another firm did the installation of the new HVAC system (air handler, heating/cooling unit, thermostats, etc.) but bringing Apperson into the mix to do roughly $3K in additional work (insulating crawl space, front door weatherstripping, etc.) earned the $7K rebate. It was an energy bonus (more efficient and reduced monthly bills) and a $4K discount on the system we bought! And the $7K check we received from PG&E came right away, not as a slight reduction in monthly bills over an extended period of years. Apperson handled all the permitting and paperwork and we're really terrific to deal with. I said I'd write a review and Jim said, his biggest challenge is "everyone thinks the service we provide is too good to be true." He's right, it seems that way but, in fact, it absolutely paid off and was real for us. Very happy and recommend as highly as I can. And, upstairs and downstairs now stay the perfect temperature--problem solved. read more

I would add a 6th star if it were possible. We had several energy upgrades completed recently including: water heater, HVAC unit, duct replacement and attic and under house insulation. The subcontractors showed up precisely on time, protected our floors and walls and cleaned up thoroughly behind themselves. We were kept informed all along the way by Apperson's. They were extremely knowledgeable and efficient about current energy rebates, permits and inspections. For a process that involves numerous people in and out of the house over a week or more, this was a very smooth and dare I say "easy" experience. We had Apperson come out and remove our attic insulation due to a rat problem. The crew removed all the insulation, and sealed up the holes. They came back and reinstalled the insulation a couple weeks later once we made sure all the rats were out. Crew was great, showed up on time, was clean and professional. Apperson did attic, floor insulation and a HERS test for us. Dealing with the whole team was a pleasure and the work top notch. We are both engineers, so we appreciated the time they took to give us details on issues found and further possibilites for DIY improvements. When the HERS testing showed CO problems they came up with a much less expensive solution (extending exaust pipe) to replacing our water heater. They even installed a free carbon monoxide monitor near our daughter's doorway. The price was at or under the other bids we received. read more

The Full Story: After contacting several companies, we decided to have the work done by Jim Apperson. He was very professional and knowledgeable about all of the rebate programs available thru PG&E. After discussing our options, we learned that the cost of the rebate would cover the cost of the entire project (about $1600). Jim's work crew showed up on time and had the work completed in about two hours. Jim also preformed an energy audit for us and gave me some valuable advice on areas of my home that were causing extreme drafts. Apperson Energy will make these types of repairs, but I'm a handy guy and took care of them myself. A word of advice; If the joints in your attic need to be calked, pay some one to do it. Your knees will thank you! I am very impressed with Jim's work and we have already reduced our energy use by 20% and received a $2000 rebate from PG&E.
