My friend is a big fan of Apkujung Restaurant and I finally had the chance to stop by on his recommendation! If you're looking for an authentic Korean meal that feels home-cooked, this is a great spot to check out. Located on Yonge Street just south of Steeles, there is plenty of parking available at Centerpoint Mall and then you just have to cross the street. What we got: - Ginseng Chicken Soup with Noodles and Congee - Galbi Jjim (Korean Braised Short Ribs) - Grilled Mackerel Final Thoughts: The Ginseng Chicken was nothing mind-blowing in terms of flavour, but it was incredibly comforting and hearty. The pot is served tableside and the staff help you cook each course starting with the poached chicken, noodle soup, and finally turning leftover soup into congee. The Galbi Jjim is my must-order dish! The short ribs are super tender, and the sauce is delicious. It may be a tad sweet, depending on your taste, but this was great with rice. Overall, I find the prices a bit on the pricey side but they come with a larger portion and I always leave full. I'd want to bring my parents here or return with a large group to try more dishes.

Well, the authenticity is still presence, but this time, the chicken had a bit of an off smell. The server seemed overwhelmed managing the tables alone, but she genuinely tried her best. I still stand by my previous praise and hope this was just a temporary setback. This time, we went for the whole chicken meal to let a friend try it, and despite the minor hiccup, we all enjoyed the experience. The quality and flavor remain impressive, and I'm optimistic that our next visit will be better.

Simple BahnChahn. Potato was pretty good.

Hey... I know Korean Food has become majorly popular over the past years and through the pandemic. How can Covid survive our hot and spicy food!?! And we're pretty hot and spicy ourselves! HeHeHeHe.... LOL! With such popularity, the restaurants that I frequented have become overrun with new fans! Dang! I really need to stop writing such great reviews for places, I think I single-handedly created my own problem because I write so well! Yes... I'm in a self ingratiating mood today! Sue me... it's Friday and it's been a long couple of weeks and I need it! ;P Just up the road from here is ChoSunOk - when they opened, it was $7 for MurlNaengMyun and GamJaTang. Now they're one of the most expensive places to go and seating is impossible. Time to find a new spot and keep it a secret!!! That's not my talent though... if I like it, YELPERS will know it! Welcome to Apkujang. My new go to place for Korean Comfort Food. It's a place that DebP mentioned a lot and I decided to give it a try as I was driving south towards Little Seoul (Yonge and Finch) and saw the gaudy little patio and dull sign. I wasn't expecting much. The decor looks pretty "meh" at best. The layout of the place is definitely made for drunken nights with pals having Soju and Anju. Ordered a GamJaTang and SoonDuBu... and braced for the worst. Like getting ready for a Hurricane to hit and hoping for it to pass over and you can have a great weekend (I hope Hurricane Fiona doesn't crush our East Coast!!!!). Can't control the weather, but this is definitely my new hangout. The food was quite good overall and when I'm looking for comfort food, I'm not looking for the Tire Guy Thumbs Up of Approval with his little Star that looks like a flower... I'm looking to pay for a good meal that leaves me with a smile on my face and a warm tummy so I can get back to life. Anyone need a round guy with opinions to give out for where to dine? Look at my new Moony Guide Spoons awards! LOL... !!! Cheers!!!

Went to dinner at this place expecting to find dukjuk but it wasn't exactly what we were looking for. Our return from Seoul was in search of soul warming juk and was only able to find this place. We ordered the ginseng chicken soup which comes with rice. We were surprised at how it was served. They brought a hot boiling pot of wanted and add sticky rice. They add a small chicken and we watch it cooked for 20min. The waiter would come once and a while and stir the pot so the rice doesn't stick. At the end of the part 1 of the cooking the chicken was cooked and soft and broken easily. Part 2 continues to cook the rice until it absorbed all the water and became congee. So the 2nd eat was chicken broth in rice as a congee. The 2nd part of the cook took another 20min. So by the end of it, we felt the dinner stretch pretty long. The food tastes great, as for the service they don't seem to speak English well so we couldn't understand them very well.

Authentic Korean food! Although they don't speak fluent English, the service is good and so does the food! We got the recommended ginseng chicken soup three ways. It offers their homemade macha noodle and then porridge. We also got the fried fish and seafood pancake. The portion is so large that me and my friend couldn't finish any of these and just pack them home! It's just very worth it! It took a bit long to get the main dishes out. But I guess it's a busy Friday? I would be happy to come back and try other stuffs. It's a bit hard to find the parking since there is no street parking and no so clear where to park at the back (there is a towing zone and I don't want to take the risk). So we decided to park at the mall right across the street.

Very good food and very good service. The chicken soup transformed over the course of the meal which was very cool and tasty. The octopus was not spicy enough. Selection of banchan was a bit limited.

My favorite ginseng chicken soup near me, relatively! Not the cheapest venture, however I think taste pretty authentic Korean to me. Not the easiest to order, if only two persons; much easier if larger party.

There are some dishes that are meant to be share, as sharing is caring?! or just some of the dishes are suppose to serve 2 and up? Apkujung Restaurant's Chicken Ginseng Soup with Noodle & Congee ($23/2 people servings) would be a dish that I would love to share with my friend or vice versa. BTW, Ginseng Chicken Soup traditional are supposed to be consumed on the hottest day of summer.. for me anytime is a good time! Watching the food heating up from in front of you while munching on banchen, hot pot style. Then when the chicken is ready, the waitress would come and cut it up and serve that to you..... then you wait again for the noodle to be cooked...and she came back and serve you again.... then you wait for the congee to be cook, and now you have this congee that has all the nutrients from the chicken and ginseng that suppose to be really good for you?! Healthy, Tasty and Wholesome! That's how I felt after having my meal. And drinking the yogurt drink after as dessert did help with digestion. The question now is when am I coming back to have that again? I need support, I could not do this alone..............

Disappointed. The whole experience was just disappointing and expensive. Arriving Friday evening at around 6:30pm, there were 1-2 tables occupied. We were seated and given menus. After much debate over the menu, there's quite a selection. A lot of items are meant for sharing with a friend. They had pork belly for 29.99$ if I recall correctly. We ordered the Beef Tripe Stew (27.99$) and Pan fried oysters (17.99$). The side dishes we received were salty and meh nothing to talk about. I usually always look forward to the ban chan :/ The oysters were flavorless and more or less tasted like it was battered with egg. There was no other seasoning besides the soy sauce they provided. For 17.99$ I expected something more appealing if not something that tasted remotely good. The Beef Tripe, ended up being being the Beef intestine (?). She gave us the wrong item and we didn't realize until it was entirely cooked. After, we told our server and she allowed us to order something else. We ordered Chicken and Veggies Stew (22.99$) which consisted of potato, onions and chicken. It tasted like boiled chicken and nothing particularly special about it either. My friend and I were very disappointed with everything. Our server never came back to check up on our meal after her error. It took double the time to dine at the restaurant and left dissatisfied. The food was mediocre at best. Never again will I come back.

The service is really really slow, but should be expected since the ginseng chicken needs to be cooked by the waitress 3 times per table, including all other tasks they have to do (they look really tired) I have been here a few times and all at bad timings because the restaurant is always full, each time the waitress tells us it's a really long wait and they don't know how long, in a tune that they want you to not wait and just leave. Each time I waited anyways and it turned out less time than I expected or what they tried to imply. The ginseng chicken is really good and all 3 ways of the cooking is delicious. The ginseng chicken, the noodles and the congee in the end. The 2 people portion is really big and just a good amount for 2 people and no need to order dishes of you came as a couple. However if you come here, expect to spend a long time here, because the cooking is really slow and it takes forever for the food to come. There is 6 side dishes (it's delicious) but no refills (75 cents per dish refill) They seat 2 people at the 6 person tables, which I think is a bit ridiculously, they should rearrange the seats around so they can maximize the amount of people that can be seated at this restaurant, so there isn't always people waiting. Anyways the food here is good and if you have a lot of time to spare for dinner, then it is fine.

Side dishes - the tofu was my favourite

Came here for with a party of three on a weekday evening. Restaurant was relatively empty. The ginseng chicken soup with noodles and congee was comforting and warm. The portion size for two ($32.95) is definitely enough to satisfy two plus some. They first bring out the pot of ginseng chicken soup, then they cook green spinach noodles in the slightly salty chicken broth, and then after they dump in purple rice to make congee. This dish was featured on the foodie show Culinary Suburbia. The red sauce they have is mild and sweet and works well with the chicken, as it can be bland solo. The cold noodles ($12.95) were standard. They included bits of boiled chicken, which was strange but I won't complain about extra meat. I was surprised to see cold noodles on the menu as they are typically only offered seasonally in the summer. Minus a star for $0.75 extra for side dish refills.

This is a great place for ginseng chicken! It's so warm and soothing on a cold winter day. We got the two-person pot that comes with a whole chicken, noodles and congee. If it's your first time ordering this dish, it could be a little confusing. To ensure that each item is cooked correctly, the servers seem to like having full control of the entire cooking process. They don't leave you with a ladle or scissors, and whenever I tried to turn down the heat, they ask me to not touch it! Regardless, I appreciate their efforts to have my food cooked properly. You get to eat the chicken first, followed by thick and chewy noodles, and finished off with congee. The soup becomes increasingly flavourful as it simmers - the congee is a real treat at the end! I haven't tried the other dishes they offer but I highly recommend this dish!

Ambiance is casual, interior is clean, and service is fast and attentive. We ordered a couple of dishes and they all came out relatively quickly. The banchan (small side dishes) are refillable once only. My favourite banchan of the day were the bean sprouts and eggplant. There were lots of vegetarian and vegan options, such as the Steamed Vegetable Dumplings, Vegetables Bibimbap, Mushrooms Bibimbap, Vegetables Udon, Vegetables Fried Rice, Kimchi Pancake, Soondubu-jjigae (Soft Tofu Stew) in different variations, and more. The menu was pretty extensive, covering the most typical Korean dishes from the stews and grilled items, to a few Korean-Chinese dishes (such as Jajangmyeon) and everything in between. Steamed Vegetables Dumplings were quite small individually, but came in a sizeable portion. I liked the green onion garnish. Taste-wise, they were alright. Vegetables Bibimbap was excellent - good amount of mixed vegetables (spinach, zucchini, mushrooms, carrot strips, lettuce, bean sprouts) and the fried egg was perfectly crispy on the outer edges, with a still gooey and runny yolk. Grilled Croaker was also decent. It had a lot of small bones as it was a whole fish. It came served with purple rice, and we chose to add on extra lettuce. Seafood Knife Cut Noodles came in a big portion - with lots of slippery, thick udon noodles, pieces of seafood (mussels, clams, squid, shrimps, octopus), and a little big of vegetables (zucchini, carrot, onion). They came in a nice seafood-infused broth - perfect for a cold winter day. I'd come again for the variety of menu items they offer (especially the wide selection of vegetarian options), satisfying tastes, and great & efficient service.

Definitely not my first time here as I've come with family or friends over the past 15+ years, every time, leaving very satisfied. It's dry aged meats so you can expect the pricing to be higher than other Korean bbq's. The service was top notch with servers coming to check in with us throughout our meal. Pairs perfectly with the sweet pear slices and delicious crisps. Cold Noodle Soup 5/5 - Chewy noodles with a cold broth that is the perfect carb and contrast to the bbq meats. Refreshing and delicious. Heritage No Name 5/5 - Such bang for buck in my opinion. $25 for 240g of this premium heritage pork. Parking can get busy in the garage as only the first 2 floors are dedicated to visitors while the upper floors are monthly passes. Note that Omiwol provides 4 hour parking validation if you eat there - more than enough time for meal. Staff were friendly and provided helpful tip around the amount of food and cooking the meat. We came on a weekday for lunch and decided on the lunch feast for 2. One thing that I immediately noticed was different than other Korean bbq places was that they seem to have internal ventilation within the grills at each table as there is almost no smoke in the restaurant despite many grills going on. This gives the restaurant a higher class feel and your clothes don't smell like bbq meat by the end of your meal! In terms of the meat, these were the stars of the meal. The pork belly had a nice fat that crisped up on cooking. The collar was tender and meaty that developed a good crust on grilling. The flat iron steak was soooo tender and juicy. Similarly, the picanha was meaty with good flavor though a big firmer. The banchans and lettuce were fresh. We got kimchi, spicy cucumber and onions, pickled onions, cabbage and jalapeño peppers, pickled sheets of radish and honey glazed sweet potatoes. All of which were tasty and go well with the bbq meats. On the side is a dish of sauces that include what looks like a sweet brown sauce (to me had minimal flavor relative to everything else), fresh wasabi - really great accompaniment to the beef and seemed more authentic than normal horseradish like wasabi, and a red sauce that reminds me of sauce that goes on bibimbap. The lunch set also comes with your choice of pork or beef kalguksu which is like a home made noodle dish in a stew. Very enjoyable to have to contrast the bbq meats. For us, our meal ended with melona popsicle which they have a variety of flavors. Price: 70$ pre tax and tip for lunch special which was well worth. Bring cash for a 5% discount.

A comforting brunch at Bonjuk Canada - perfect when you're not feeling 100%…read more My partner and I finally sat down for a proper brunch at Bonjuk this afternoon, and it was exactly the kind of meal we needed. I've been dealing with some dental pain, and my partner is just getting over a nasty cold, so we wanted something gentle, nourishing, and easy on the body - not a heavy, greasy brunch. Bonjuk's whole vibe of "comfort food with heart" really delivered. We'd only done takeout before, so this was our first time dining in. The space is small but really welcoming - warm lighting, clean and simple decor, and comfortable seating that makes you want to slow down and relax. It's not a huge place, so there aren't tons of indoor seats, but that also gives it a cozy, intimate feel. Service was friendly and low‑pressure, which we appreciated when we were both feeling a bit under the weather. We ordered the Chicken Porridge ($23) and the Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap ($24), both for dine‑in (prices don't include tax and tip). The chicken porridge was savoury, and soothing, with a rich broth that felt healing without being heavy. It was easy to eat with my sore teeth and left me feeling comforted, not stuffed. The beef bulgogi bibimbap was a nice contrast - colourful, fresh, and full of flavour. The bulgogi was sweet, the rice was perfectly cooked, and the mix of veggies and egg made it feel like a balanced, healthy meal. It's definitely a step up from typical brunch fare if you're looking for something lighter but still satisfying. One thing that really stood out was their baby porridge menu. It's such a thoughtful touch - separate, gentle, low‑salt options for little ones. As someone who's seen new parents struggle to find safe, easy meals out, this felt genuinely helpful and kind. It's easy to see why their marketing feels like they actually care about making food that's good for people, not just trendy. If you're looking for the best value, I'd say go for takeaway. We noticed a steady stream of takeout orders, and the overall costs are slightly lower that way, especially when there are discounts offered by different order platform. Overall, Bonjuk Canada is a good spot when you want something comforting, healthy, and easy on the stomach - whether you're recovering from illness, have dental issues, or just want a more mindful brunch.
