They must have changed their management over the last few years because now they offer self serve on the side dishes and there's been a few other updates. A star was deducted because the table we sat in was dirty, we moved to another table and the cup was dirty. Also we suspect the fish cake that was left on the table for self serve went bad, it didn't taste right. But I enjoyed the self serve, great variety of sides. Came here after passing it a few times. What stood out to us is that this restaurant has a side dish (banchan) bar where you can help yourself. The place itself is big, however it feels more retro in the interior. The food here was okay. Came here for their kkangpoonggi but it was hard to find the chicken. Everything else was either bland or stale. Their pork cutlet was really dry and over fried with used oil and not fresh oil. Jjajang myun was also really bland. Service was mediocre even though the restaurant was half full. Ambiance is chill.. It was our first time here and we loved our super delicious lunch! Excellent service too from Eunbyeol who was so friendly and happy. I would have given the food full stars but my Bibimbap didn't have a sunny side up egg, it was easy over which takes away the nice yellow yolk colour that I love. I had to cut the egg to let the yolk show through for the photo. We loved the Kimchi pancakes and got Gyoza steamed and fried. I preferred the steamed which brought out the flavours better. Came here after a tiring shift with my good friend and she got the mulnaenmyeon which was more soupy than my bibimnaengmyeon. It came out super quick (makes sense because it's a cold noodle) and it was delicious! I love how slightly chewy the noodles were. I would've preferred it if there was more protein as it was mostly noodles but the amount of sauce to noodles were the perfect ratio. We also shared the peach soju which was delicious. Because it was a weekend night, they were quite busy so we had to flag them down a couple times but they have a call bell at each table so that was easy. Will definitely return! read more

I liked how menus had pictures of the food, and they were all pretty accurate Service doesnt stand out but is fine. Upon reading previous reviews for this place, I knew I needed to ask for water rather than it being served automatically which is exactly what happened. They want to see you finish your sides before u get refill. Food was all delicious and had a lot of flavor. However, some of it wasn't fresh and you could tell, for example, the gyoza and some meats were a bit stale tasting. One of the people at my table requested to leave a certain vegetable out of their meal but still received it anyway. Tofu in one of the soups was burnt. Servings are pretty big and I would say they're sharing size. We came at a pretty empty and late lunch hour, so I understand how my review can differ from others, but it's funny how on google, this restaurant has a 4.7 rating while here it has 3.2. Had the new all you can eat. It's a great value for what you get since it's only ~$40/person and you get the same meats as they serve a la carte. The difference is you need to tolerate the slow service as they are not set up to do all you can eat. So you need to order super well in advance (like 15 mins) for refills of meat. Had the pork belly and kalbi primarily and both were solid. Shrimp was a bit tasteless. Cold noodles were nice (don't forget to add vinegar that is already on the table). Friendly staff too. DO NOT GO HERE FOR DINE IN! First of all, they try scamming you off the jump. We came in for a party of six reservation, and we told them we want the AYC option. We said just two meats at a time, they brought out ALLLLLL of the meats times TEN. We counted 30 pieces of pork belly alone, so now imagine that for each of the meats! Of course, this place charges for whatever is not eaten so of course they did this on purpose. We told the man that we said two meats at a time, he said sorry but still kept our meat on the table and continued bringing extra sides we didn't ask for! Then, their attitudes to us except one younger guy was disgusting. An older man with glasses acted so rude to us. We requested white rice they brought out purple rice and he said it's white- the "corn" makes it purple. He really acted like we were the stupidest people alive meanwhile trying to scam us. This place gave mom and pop vibes- meaning they need to make all the money they can get so they result to getting it in other ways. My friends and I were looking for a place to have good dinner and accommodate a group of 12 people. One of my friends picked this place out at random. It looked clean, bright, and welcoming, so we decided to eat dinner here. When we arrived, it was late in the evening, so there were only two people dining inside. There were two waiters who moved a table, so that we can sit together. A young man was our waiter and he brought the menu, the utensils, the cups, and the water jugs. Then he went to the back, so that we could chat and look at the menu. Throughout the evening, he occasionally came back to check-in on us (as we were eating and talking non-stop). I appreciated that he fulfilled our requests promptly. Each of us ordered a different item on the menu. Most of us ordered a hot dish (e.g. hot soup or hot bowl of rice and vegetables). I ordered tofu soup with seafood. The soup and the bowl of rice came hot! The tofu was soft and the broth was spicy. I wished that there were more seafood inside. I came back to this restaurant after a couple months and was very surprised to see that the price had increased significantly. It used to be $13.99 for a gamjatang, with the option of adding ramen at no additional cost. Now it is $15.99 for the gamjatang without ramen and $17.99 for a gamjatang with ramen. I'm not going to lie, I did have a bit of sticker shock as $18 for a bowl of gamjatang is probably the most expensive I've ever seen it in Toronto (especially because this place isn't even particularly fancy). I understand that times have been tough and food prices have been rising but even other restaurants within Chinatown and Koreatown have kept their price increases to a lesser amount. To add insult to injury, the amount of meat they put into it when I got the gamjatang this time was noticeably less than when I got it a few months ago. Came here on a whim (BEFORE checking Yelp... shock gasp horror) because it was closest to the underground parking and we needed some food ASAP. It was a Friday night and they still had plenty of tables available. Love the variety of banchan available here. We ordered: Bibim naengmyun, Soon dubu (soft tofu stew), and the eel rice. The food was fresh and tasty! The naengmyun was good but they didn't serve it with any extra vinegar or mustard. They also forgot the scissors so it got a lil messy eating it. Overall, pretty good. Service was efficient! The banchan and food was delivered quickly to our table. For a no-frills location, efficiency is really all you're looking for... not so much for the smiles. This Korean restaurant is literally in the heart of Chinatown. The spicy pork bulgogi was very tasty but I wasn't crazy about the side dishes. The fish cakes and kimchi were not great but I liked the potatoes. There was only 1 Ajumma waiting on everyone in the restaurant which was disappointing. She did her best. There was a fly or two running around so not the cleanest. I am not sure why they didn't have enough staff working on a Thursday evening but hopefully it was a one off. Nevertheless, if you are very hungry or need something after your food comes out, be patient. The entree is what you should look forward to. It's worth the wait. It makes me sad that Biwon will be someone's first experience of Korean food in Toronto. My wife and I gave it a shot, since the price was right. Unfortunately, every dish was bad. The ban chan was a bad omen - soft, weird potatoes, limp radish, and weak kim chi, and no greens. The seafood pancake, a simple classic, was cool and soggy, yet badly burned. It was obviously not serve-able long before it got cold. Even the sauce that came with it was awful - super thin, super salty, no heat at all, just useless. It was easily the worst Korean pancake I've even had. The seafood gluten chunk dish, usually a guilty pleasure, tasted like it sounds for once - gluey and flavorless. The thin sliced beef that came with it was so dry and tough! It reminded me of my dad's "all day" pot roast - basically leather. I've never had worse. The soup tasted like a campfire for some reason. I honestly wonder if there was a fire in their kitchen - that would explain the burned pancake, too. Also, the soup was supposed to have seafood in it, but it didn't seem to have any. I've never been disappointed by Korean soup before, not ever. Literally nothing we ordered was even average. I could see making an excuse for a second star since we did eat the unburned half of the pancake and some of the soup, but not when the competition is so much better. Do yourself a favor and get Korean from any one of the dozens of excellent Korean restaurants, instead! Really, we have many treasures to choose from. Don't let Biwon ruin your opinion of the entire cuisine. read more

Writing this review feels boring because consider this to be a middle of the road korean restaurant. It was tasty. The portions for kalbi were smaller, expect 5 pieces at the most. The black bean noodles are delivered with noodles separate to make sure the noodles are not soggy but leads the item to be hard to eat as the noodles are all clumped together and hard to seperate. The item took a very long time to deliver on uber eats so many of the items including chicken items and seafood pancakes got soggy reducing the taste of the item. Not the most unfortunate tasting items, but I would only order this for pick up and be selective with which items to get. read more

We decided to give it another shot a few months ago, and it is now one of our go to Korean restaurants in Chinatown. Lots of selection in Korean dishes. The lunch specials until 5pm look amazing and are well-priced. Unfortunately, I have never made it hear for lunch. We had five side dishes with our meal, and they were not stingy with top-ups. Our side dishes were: honey potatoes, jap chae noodles, seaweed salad, kimchi, and slices of ?gluten strips. We both ordered the bulgogi bibimbap and were satisfied and full. We came to Biwon because we were craving for some Korean food. Biwon is located in the Chinatown area, the street is filled with Asian restaurants and lots of food choices in a less than 10 min walk from St. Patrick TTC station. We ordered the classic Korean traditional Stone pot bibimbap, which you can never go wrong with. It comes with spicy sauce, lots of veggies, fried egg and a bed of rice in a sizzling stone pot. The warm dumpling and soft chewy ricecake soup was also really good, definitely a light soup that pairs with any dish! The dumpling soup with noodles was also pretty good, the broth was flavourful with large filling portion of noodle. The price is super affordable, great for lunch. What does it take to get a hot tea refill...or just a glass of water for that matter? Apparently, at Nak Won, you have to tell three different waitresses five different times and wait ~20 minutes on top of all that for any sort of liquid sustenance to appear. I was literally about to get up and grab a pitcher of water from the cooler myself. I don't think anyone can expect great service at a Korean BBQ dive on a Saturday night...but the service I experienced most recently was sub-par by any standard. But, what does keep me coming back to Nak Won is its pretty decent and moderately-priced grub. The seafood pancake (~$13) is a great hot appetizer and can be shared among a group of 4 easily. Their kalbi is pretty standard -- nothing mind-blowing but tasty just the same. But I do think their soups are generally very good -- I especially like the gamjatang (~$7) that includes super tender pork bone, potatoes, and rice cake. The cold appetizers/small plates they provide for free aren't too shabby either, I loved the variety -- everything from pickled veggies to bean sprouts and glazed potatoes. Another note on service, the food *does* come out rather quickly, as does the check (of course). Everything else, like water or even napkins, takes about a year and a half to obtain from the waitresses. The call buttons on the table don't work, neither does yelling "chogiyo" across the room, so you really just have to sit there and hope one of the waitresses sees you frantically waving your hand. Decent food, okay prices, but not-so-great service. I'll probably consider other Korean restaurants before visiting Nak Won again next time I'm in the area. read more

A definite must have if you are looking for some good homestyle Korean food in Toronto's Chinatown. I came to Biwon last night with some friends after our expedition to the Christmas Market. We were pretty hungry and happened to stumble upon this place (Disclaimer: I actually didn't check reviews on the place and just went in with high hopes) as we were walking down Dundas. We went inside and we were welcome with such amazing hospitality from the wait staff. They were polite, friendly and warm as soon as we walked in. A great variety of banchan (Kimchi, Jabchae, Gamja Jorim, etc) which was unlimited for all tables. We ordered some staple items like the Gamjatang (Pork Bone Soup), Sundubu (Soft Tofu Stew), Pig Trotters, and Grilled Mackerel. The gamjatang was ok, I do wish it was more piping hot, however it did have a good pork flavour. Overall, it was a solid combo with the pig trotters for only $14.99 with rice. My friends ordered the Sundubu with Grilled Mackarel and they were not disappointed. The sundubu flavour was well-balanced with the tofu and vegetables. They were a little disappointed that the whole egg was boiled in the stew and not cracked when served to give it the extra creamy flavour. However, the mackerel made up for the disappointed. Overall, Biwon is a great place to go for some classic and simple Korean with friends. I definitely will be returning soon to try their other dishes! read more

I ordered takeout from Nak Won and picked it up. The restaurant was about a third full for Sunday lunch. I would not go here, especially if you are getting the Jajangmyeon ($9.99) or the Dumplings ($9.99), which is what I ate. I to I eat jajangmyeon (or the Chinese equivalent of it, zhajiangmian) a lot, think once every month at least. This is one of my favorite dishes and I have never seen such a disastrously made one. The sauce looked almost sad, as if they didn't put enough fermented bean paste into it and replaced whatever they did not put in with corn starch instead. The sauce did not have the right consistency, tasteless, and not even close to being salty enough. When you fry the fermented bean paste, you are supposed to make it more flavorful, not less. I would have preferred to go next door to one of the supermarkets in the area, buy a packet of fermented bean paste and put it on my carbs. I could not finish it - I took four bites and then took personal offence from the dish. The dumplings looked, and tasted like, they were store bought frozen dumplings. The dumpling skin was 100% mass manufactured, not hand rolled. When you look at the filling, they are placed perfectly center of each dumpling. I actually finished the dumplings because I usually eat frozen dumplings anyways - but I could have saved $8.00 if I did. read more

The waiter gave my friend and I an extra bowl of rice on the side, I found that really nice but we couldn't even finish our food haha. Side dishes are good, my favorite has to be the potatoes! I usually come here during lunch and they have good lunch specials (bento boxes, soups, etc). In the heart of China town, BIWON is the nearest korean restaurant around. They have a wide selection on their menu leaving you a tough decision to deduce what to order. Their pork bone soup is average flavour but offers lots of pork. Their combo with pork hock gives you a few slices for you to taste. The bibimbap is good however it isn't hot enough to get a crispy crunch on the bottom of the bowl. They are like the only place that has the green grape soju which is a true gem. If I could give zero stars I would. We just ordered from this restaurant through Foodora and it was the worst food experience ever. We ordered 5 dishes total and they sent us the wrong order for one and they gave only 3 tiny packs of side dishes. You would think it ends there but no. We ordered jajangmyeon and not only were the noodles overcooked and bloated, they gave such little sauce with hardly any veggies and no meat which tasted bad. Our second item was naengmyeon which also had very little sauce with no flavour and the same bloated noodle situation. Third dish was kimchi fried rice which lacked a lot of flavour and the rice was hard. It literally tasted like kimchi juice mixed into rice. Fourth dish was supposed to be spicy stir fried pork which we were looking forward to but instead they gave us steamed pork belly which smelled like rotten pork with lots of oily fat. Last dish was king sized steamed dumplings which was surprisingly the only decent thing we ordered and the only thing we ate. I have a really good feeling that these people are serving old food to those that order for delivery and cheaping out in any way they can on the dishes. I am Korean and it just reminds me to never eat Korean food in Toronto because majority are all poor quality like this and extremely inconsistent. It angers me how they think that they can get away with this and assume that no one would complain about the crappy food they're sending out. I've been here twice and the service was pretty pathetic both times. The second time I came here, the place was crowded and for some reason, there were only two waiters working. It was Mother's Day, so it's expected that a restaurant would be packed with customers, hence there should have been more workers! I continuously pressed the button on the table to call for more water as I was becoming extremely parched and no one came by. Also tried raising my hand up and they just dashed right past me. I ordered the BiBimBap the first time and it lacked a lot of flavour. However, I wouldn't necessarily say it tasted bad. The second time I came here, I ordered the Chicken Katsu and my goodness, what was I eating. The chicken was more than 50% burnt and it felt like I was eating bitter breadcrumbs. The pieces are super skinny and there was barely any meat on it! The salad they give on the side was surprisingly quite delicious, but also a bit too sour for my liking. First glance - the restaurant is very clean and spacious with lots of seating. However, I visited on a Monday during the day, so it was pretty quiet. Our waitress was not the most friendly and did not give her name, but the food was spectacular! If you're looking for something tasty and quick, I highly recommend this place, but don't come looking for great service. * On a side note, I got the Chicken KalGookShu which comes traditionally bland.
