This is a pretty average Korean restaurant in Toronto's Koreatown. Given how competitive the area is with so many great options, it didn't particularly stand out. We ordered the army stew (budae jjigae), and it was decent but nothing memorable. The flavors were just okay, and overall it felt like a standard experience. This Korean restaurant has a homey and cozy atmosphere. I visited just before Halloween, so the place was decorated with spooky decorations. There were also cute minion posters on the walls, adding a fun touch. For my meal, I ordered the Kimchi Fried Rice. The flavour was great--salty and tangy from the kimchi--but it was quite greasy, with orange oil coating my plate and spoon. We also received a variety of side dishes, including bean sprouts, soybeans, kimchi, cucumbers, potatoes, and japchae. I enjoyed these banchan before our main dish arrived. I wanted to find a good option that would meet various experiences with Korean food & tastes, and as a I don't eat meat, I wanted something other than a BBQ (though there were several that seemed to have good reviews.) I picked Korea House, from walking up the block and checking the menu out front, sometimes the old-fashioned way works well. And this is 1 of those times. Everyone enjoyed everything we ordered: Kimchi jeon - thin & crispy, not too heavy on kimchi Dok beokki - (no cheese, as it should be) - a little sweet more than spicy; I generally like it spicy but for the mixed group, the spice level was perfect Oejingo dolsot bibimbap (w squid) Haemul Soon dubu (w seafood) - served boiling hot & spicy Fried shrimp w a spicy sauce Bulgogi & rice Bulgogi bibimbap A little different- the dishes with rice on the side were served with purple rice rather than the traditional white rice. A tasty change. But 1 of my friends asked for plain white rice and the server said they didn't serve it separately. Not a big problem but FYI. The servers were very pleasant and attentive enough. My fave was the Seafood Pancake HaeMul PaJeon. $17.99 It's got a nice crispy edge and loaded with seafood (octopus, shrimp, shredded carrot, green onions. We also tried Jap Chae which is glass noodles with beef and vegetables. $16.99 Portions are generous. This place is one of the first Korean restaurants to open here in 1970's and now on its third owner running this place. The place is comfortable and cosy. The service is friendly and attentive. The food was pretty authentic, service was fast and friendly, and the resto has cute random decorations including what I'm pretty sure are children's dinosaur drawings (adorable). I thought this place was ok. All dishes seem to hover around $15 w/ a -10% discount if you pay cash which helps. Portions are quite generous, so keep that in mind. Neither me nor my friend were able to finish our dishes, PBS & kalguksoo. I tasted a bit of the PBS and it did seem like a complex broth with lotsa flavour. It came with the purple rice. Kalguksoo looked very different from other places that I've had it. Instead of a white, creamy broth, it was soya sauce coloured and it came with some sliced veg. I'm used to creamier broth and fairly plain with the ingredients. Noodles were al dente and had a nice chew to them! Overall, it's a decent Korean restaurant on the strip. Service was pleasant, but I'll keep exploring for that mix of quality vs. value. read more

Very tasty and authentic Korean food can be found here. My adoptee friends and I do quite a few get togethers here and it never disappoints. The decoration is a bit tough to explain, with what looks like army mesh and camouflage stuff, but it's the food that matters, and it's GOOD. The standards are good, Bulgogi, pancakes and JapChae. The service is good. They're friendly, the food arrives quick and it's a comfortable place to hang out and eat at. Go try it out. It is worth the trip! read more

Although far from one of best examples of Korean meals, the food here is fine for what it is - a relatively inexpensive fare where service and ambience leave room for improvement. ++ Food came out relatively quickly Chapchae: the sauce for this potato noodle dish tastes like mild soy sauce, and it typically comes stir fried with veggies and beef strips, although both were a rare commodity in this case. It's decent, just not great. Located on the north side of Bloor Street, just west of Manning Avenue the window of the place is covered with photographs of the dishes offered inside. The decor inside is a mix of plastic grapes & grapevines hanging from a trellis on the ceiling & assorted Korean ceramics. The walls are decorated with Korean script & some Korean paintings. There are a mix of stand alone tables out front with the kitchen & counter in the back. The menu offered a good selection of Korean dishes including lots of Korean pancakes, dumplings, bibimbap & hot dishes. I opted for an order of veggie dumplings & the grilled mackerel, while my friend had the beef bibimbap. The service was polite & friendly & everything arrived quickly to the table, along with a selection of Korean banchan, which gave us a lot of food. While the mackerel was grilled perfectly, the beef on the bibimbap was cold, but it came with a fried egg, which pleased my friend. The dumplings which were fried were a little greasy & the banchan was delicious, making for a really, nice Friday meal. We have found a new place for grilled mackerel. read more

Ordered delivery via uber eats! This was not my first time ordering from them but I was very disappointed when my order came WITHOUT any side dishes that usually comes with a mea!! The LA galbi ribs were fatty, soft and delicious even though it came via delivery. Thank goodness they weren't stiff! The spicy squid dish was good but it was not spicy at all. This restaurant was disappointing to both me and my friend last night. On a Friday night I do expect it to be busy but service was just beyond horrible. We waited at least 25~30 minutes and got our ddubboki appetizer (7.95$). I was expecting decent ban chan but everything was extremely bland or lacking flavours. Even the kimchi tasted odd. My friend and I each ordered a typical Korean dish, she got the pork bone soup (8.95$) and I got the soon tofu with seafood (8.95$). We both agreed it was spicy, hot in temperature but besides that there was no flavours again it was bland and extremely disappointing. The pork bone soup had mostly bones and very little meat. The soon tofu had minced tofu and minimal seafood. I do not understand how this place can have such awful food. The menu also was limited to mostly spicy food items. Overall, if you're looking for a Korean restaurant don't bother coming here. The service was bad also because there was 1~2 ladies running around. It was also hard to get their attention when we wanted the bill. Sorry Korea house, you are on my list of never again will I eat here. Such a waste of money seriously. Wow...I have not been down to Korea Town in so long, I don't remember anything about it anymore. Sure some of the restaurants have been replaced with others. Some have reno'd and have new signage, but one thing is for sure, nothing beats K-Town for K-Food. I didn't go to Korea House that much as a youngster but it was close to where I parked and didn't feel like walking that much. Popped in and I swear that not much has changed in years. Like stepping back in time! Hope that the food quality and recipe hasn't changed either. It was well past the dinner hours and the clientele at that time of night seems to be University crowd having some food before they head out to the clubs or a house party. Wow - does bring back distant memories. Had the Dduk-Man-Du-Gook (dumpling and rice cakes), LA-Kalbi, and a stew. The food was almost like I remember it. The Kalbi was sweet and tasty. The dumplings were well stuffed and the broth was a bit salty. Maybe as the day comes to an end, they add a little more salt and water as their broth supplies dwindles - not an uncommon practice as the restaurant closes. Nonetheless, still better than a lot of pretenders up in the 905. Service is ok - if you are looking for prompt professional service, then go elsewhere. The young gals do a good job overall. Trust me, they rather be k-popping somewhere else but they still manage to be courteous and polite to us old folks. Parking is road or Green-P. Lots of them around. This is my first time eating Korean food. As I looked through the menu I came across a plate called bimbimbop. Apparently a typical dish in the Korean culture. I debated on getting the regular plate vs the hot plate. Well I wish I had paid the extra $2 to get it in the hot plate because I think it would of been a more authentic feel than a cold steel bowl. The side toppings were a really nice addition to adding extra flavor to your food. Service was prompt, food was fresh. I really enjoyed my experience here. The atmosphere was nice with several locals coming and going. The decor was a bit outdated but we are here for the fast service of the food. Would I return? Most definitely! I was so excited when I saw they had Omurice on the menu! Before that, I haven't had any since 2017 when Uncle Tetsu's maid cafe was still open. It was massive and so delicious and filling. The bulgogi tteokbokki was good too. I love the generous side dishes we got. I've never been to another Korean place that served a seaweed side dish. This is my go to Korean restaurant in Toronto! I often visit for dinners by myself when I'm craving Korean, and my friends and I love to eat here whenever we go out. The staff is always so kind and attentive. A good thing to know is that they only accept cash for bills under $20. Everything is fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced! My go to dish is the cheese tteokbokki, best I've tried in the city. Ambience is really enjoyable, and they often have KPOP playing on the tv which is fun. I went to Korea House on Labor day and ordered Gamjatang (pork bone soup) which is one of the classic Korean main dishes. It took more than usual to get the food even though the restaurant wasn't crowded, which I didn't have any problems since it was a holiday and I figured they didn't have everything readily available. When I got my gamjatang, I was unpleasantly surprised because underneath the pork hone, the soup was not gamjatang soup. In fact, it was kimchi bean sprout soup (). Gamjatang takes a while to make since the broth comes from the pork bones. If the restaurant didn't have the broth ready for gamjatang, they should have let me know that the dish was not available that day when I ordered it. If I wanted kimchi bean sprout soup, I would have ordered that. I don't know if this is how they serve gamjatang on other days or if my experience was unique to just that labor day, but what I can say for sure is that they didn't even try to make traditional gamjatang. I would have believed if it was the cook's first day and he was not from Korean ethnic background. read more

For me, an average Korean restaurant. The gamjatang was great and heartwarming. It came with a bowl of purple rice which is always great. My friend got the bibimbap and it was pretty great. I'm sad that most places these days pre-fry the egg on top rather than doing the raw egg. The ban Chan were standard fare, and the prices were pretty average. This is the other well know Korean restaurant in Korea town (the first one being Korean Village) and just like the other one is of mediocre quality but people (out of hood) keep pouring in since they don't know any better. We had pork bone soup and bulgogi and the best thing about the dishes was that they were quite large in quantity. In quality things were quite mediocre ,both in flavor and quality of the ingredients, especially the meat. The beer is $6 which is cheaper than most downtown Toronto. Adequate in all respects. The food is good. I especially liked the glass noodle dish (sorry the Korean name escapes me). The fried mackerel was kinda greasy and better to share than to eat by yourself. All the little dishes of kimchi, pickled stuff and snacky things came out in good time. This used to be my favourite korean restaurent. I always order the same thing. Potato pancake and tteokguk. First off, they are super inconsistent, what made me drawn to this place was that their tteokguk had glass noodles in it. Then I came to learn this wasn't always the case. So I would always go in hoping they would put it in this time. The last time that I went was deeply disappointing for me. Not only was my potato pancake burnt. There was a hair in my soup. This could have been a 4 star but instead I'm going to have to give it 3 star for two main reasons: 1) service. It took them 30 minutes just to bring water and starter dishes - at other restaurants it's almost immediate. It took another 15 minutes for the food to come. And when one of us asked for the bill, they kept forgetting to bring it. 2) food was not warm. One person ordered the seafood stew in those black bowls and usually it comes steaming or boiling. This time it came with a raw egg that is sitting in warm stew hence it was not cooking properly. It has to be returned to be heated. All in all, not worth the buzz. Great little restaurant in Koreatown. The food was served quickly and the servers were very careful with the handling of food. Place was a little tight as it was packed with guests and we ordered BBQ platters that required a grill--which also meant that I had to babysit the grill while my wife tended to the kids. The waitresses saw that and began to do double duty by helping grill the meat for us and slicing them as they came off the grill. I cannot understate how friendly and service-oriented they were. For food that was starting at $11.99 for korean pancake, to $15.99 for a hot plate, the food was utterly disappointing. I had gotten kimchi pork on a hot plate and it was drowned in oil and grease. I also ordered a kimchi pancake in which i never got. The kimchi was very sour, and my friend whom ordered the kimchi chigae, the broth was also sour. The pork bone soup was very watery, basically tasteless. Other than the food, the waitress was extremely rude to me and my friends. I had asked for a recommendation between two items on the menu, and she responded with a very bad attitude. When my food came, she dropped the hot plate infront of me, causing the oil and grease of the red hot sauce to splash. Naturally it got on my hands and clothes, she didn't even apologize. She's lucky i wasn't wearing white, because i would've snapped. The waitress was asian with aburn hair and had a bow tying her hair up. Not impressed. Tips are included in the bill, which basically leaves no excuse for bad service. I specifically requested that tip was taken off my bill for the poor service. My Korean gf's go to place for pork bone soup on the Bloor strip. Specifically, I think it's because they'll turn it into fried rice with the remnants if you ask (in Korean only?? *shrug*) Here's how it works: You're already stuffed beyond reasonable means on certainly tasty, though perhaps not extraordinary, pork bone soup. Then, when the time comes, the Korean mom will come and get things going. She'll scoop out any leftover soup until a small amount remains, de-bone any bones, and add in some extra fresh veg/kimchi. In goes the rice, and it gets fried up in the same soup pot. Of course at this point I'm in shock that my gf can still cram this delectable but superfluous second-round down her throat...
