There are a few different Korean food stalls in First Markham Place's food court, but this one is the best in my opinion. Their menu is slightly bigger than the other ones, and offers more selection. The taste and quality of the food are top-notch, and comparable (or even better) than the offerings in some actual sit-down Korean restaurants in the area. The food portion size is quite substantial, and most of the main dishes come with banchan / side dishes (japchae, bean sprouts, fish cakes, a piece of gimbap, and kimchi). [I initially didn't expect Korean food court orders to come with banchan!] The Bibimbap is excellent - nothing out of the ordinary, but I really like the fried egg, rice, and mix of veggies. It would be even more awesome if they offer more varieties of Bibimbap (e.g. with shrimps, tofu, vegetarian options). The Grilled Mackerel with rice and side dishes is also very wholesome, tasty, and satisfying. The grilled mackerel comes in a pretty big piece, and tastes very yummy without being oily at all. I love all the banchan / side dishes that come with it - makes it a complete meal with the rice and vegetables. Another differentiator between this and the other Korean stalls is the customer service. The lady working here (presumably the owner?) is very nice and friendly. The young man who works as the cashier / at the front counter is super friendly too, and is able to explain all the menu items and what they include in detail. They seem very busy when there is a lineup, but seem to work very well together and they give a lot of the add-ons (sauces, side dishes, soup, etc.) to whatever we order. Very great value and quality from a simple and friendly food court stall.

3.5 stars. Ordered the pork bone soup . It didn't taste authentic Korean and wasn't spicy at all. I personally didn't mind it but also nothing special . Kim chi was sweet and I liked it . The bean sprout side dish and dumpling wasn't really good. Had an odd after taste . I likely will give this place another try one day

I love a good sizzling gamjatang that is hearty and savory. Korean Food Express has always been one of my go-to's when I am at the FMP food court. For approximately $10 including tax, you get a satisfying soup full of tender meat (falls off the bones), fully cooked cabbage and bean sprouts paired with a bowl of rice. Unlike other Korean restaurants, their broth is light brown and not too spicy. It is quite light which makes it easy to drink. The meal comes with miso soup and side dishes including japchae/potatos and kimchi. Note: For take out, they give two separate containers- one regular sized for the soup and a taller sized container to fit the 3 large pork bones and vegetables. They wrap it up very well so that nothing spills and the heat is still retained after 30 minutes. I've never had an issue with wait time even though this is a pretty popular place. The only difficulty is getting a parking spot at FMP. After ordering, you will receive your meal within 5-10 minutes. For the price and portion, I definitely recommend this place for a quick craving satisfaction of pork bone soup. They are very consistent.

Bulgogi beef bento box came with soup and kimchi. I prefer this type of bulgogi not too sweet with a lot of sauce.

Disgusting food, worst pork bone soup ever. With this quality it will be out of business soon. Never eat dry pork bone soup

Korean Food Express is one of the vendors in the food court at First Markham Place. I got the Beef Bulgogi Bento Box ($10.95) and overall it was ok. The Bento Box came with obviously Beef Bulgogi, but also white rice, Japchae, Kimchi, bean sprouts, fish cake slices, broccoli, and a spring roll. I enjoyed the variety of items, but the taste was just ok. The Beef Bulgogi was too fatty and gristley for my liking. The marinade was flavourful though and the meat wasn't chewy or tough. It was fried with mushrooms, onions, carrots and zucchini. The rice was good. I really liked the seasonings in the Japchae (it was peppery) and it was probably my favourite part of the meal, but it was served cold and I prefer it hot. The spring roll was cold, chewy, and mostly wrapper, it was the worse part of the meal :( I liked the fish slices, and the broccoli was nicely al dente, but these 2 items were also served cold. I found it a bit odd that so many items were served cold. At least the beef and rice were hot. I gave the Kimchi and bean sprouts to my dad, so I can't comment on the taste of those items. My meal also came with a small miso soup, which was hot (I also gave this away to my dad) and a hot roasted barley tea. I enjoyed the tea. Service was friendly and efficient. I thought it was ok for food court Korean food, but I was hoping I would be more "wowed" by this independent vendor in the food court haven that is First Markham Place, lol.

    Pork bone soup... Nice portion.

I like to eat... and for me the food is the star and service and ambiance are important but secondary. This is a place at the food court in First Markham place. Some of you might scoff at it and say if I want real Korean then I'd go to a restaurant. For me I like to find these gems... The food is authentic, and the execution on the food I'd give 3.5 stars but the personality of the owner easily boosts that to 4.5 stars. She makes you feel welcome and happy. Points out if you are ordering too much and tries to steer you right. When she notices we were slowing down she got take out containers ready... and ever offered us some fruit as desert no charge... feels like a family atmosphere... Great customer service enhance the already good food. We had the staples Pork bone soup, Kalbi, bulgogi box, and tried some out of the ordinary items Kimchi fried rice. The pork bone soup was good but nice portions of pone and meat. Cooked for a lonf time and the mean just falls off the bone, You get a nice richness from the broken down cartilage and fats... a little more spice and perilla leave would be perfect. Kalbi was good as expected... bit the best I've had but good... portion good for the low price. The other items are also good as expected.

    Naeng myun. The best!

This is one of the reasons I love FMP food court for lunch. My office is a few minutes away so this is a great choice for me when I've been dreaming about delicious korean food all morning while doing my work... The lady that works here is very nice and she's BADASS! She has a shoulder tattoo sleeve, which is rare in korean women. She's always smiley and appreciative of your business. My favourite thing to get here is the naeng myun! Aka, cold noodles for the summertime. OMG, it is delicious!!! Everything is seasoned just right and the chilled broth is to die for... every bite I was taking made me question myself "Is this deliciousness REALLY happening right now?!?!?" I also love the jajangmyun.. so creamy and delicious... wow... I am making myself hungry just by writing this review. The food also comes with typical korean side dishes (jap chae, kimchi, potato..) Prices are typical, not 'chinese food court cheap' but it's reasonable! Overall a very good choice for a food court and will return.

Food court quality food. Generous portions at a reasonable price. The biggest challenge when you've never been to this mall is finding the place. Look for one of the touch screen directories and follow the directions. When you get to the food court look to the right of the stage. I ordered the #2 Samsun Jam Pong (Spicy seafood noodle soup) and boy was it spicy! It didn't look spicy in the picture but when I got it the broth was bright red. Tasted it a few times and handed it over to my hubby who likes his spice levels hot. Hubby got the ham bone soup. Decent amount of tender meat still left on the bones, broth was ok. The bean sprouts, noodles, potato and kimchi sides were decent. I would eat here again if I was in this mall and in the mood for Korean food.

If you looking for some non Chinese food option inside First Market Place's food court, Korean Food Express is one of the choices... (Why I am looking for non Chinese Food in FMP is another story....) Samgyetang ($8.95) - Strong aroma for ginseng with thin sliced of ginseng - 1/2 young chicken stuffed with rice and dates... - really comforting for on this rainy/cloudy afternoon Korean lady is really friendly and nice... will answer all sort of questions about the menu. I will be here for Naengmyeon ($6.95) next time!!!

The portions are great and the food is always delicious!! One of my favourites in the FMP food court and always my go-to for some quick and delicious Korean food! I always get the kimbap! So yummy!! And the lady behind the counter is so sweet and wonderful to chat with! Also got #11, which is the beef bulgogi combo! Portions were also really good and the bulgogi was so good!! Also really enjoyed the japchae. Overall, really amazing food and service! No complaints at all. :) - @eatwithtoronto on IG

Decent Korean food for decent prices! I had the pork bone soup (perfect for chilly fall days when you're craving something to warm you up!) and it was only $10.10 (after-tax)! You get a lot of meat for the price, and it comes with 4 different types of banchan (appetizers) and a cup of barley tea. The reason why it only gets 3 stars is because it's a bit too salty for my preference, and while it does have a deep, meaty taste, I would have preferred if I could taste the spices more, and if it had some fresh component (maybe sliced green onion) to liven it up. All in all, a great food court option!

    Mary H.

This place is located inside a mall. I haven't had kimbap in a really long time so when I saw it I knew I had to get it. I was at the counter waiting to give my order and another family came right up to the counter and ordered the same thing I was going to order!! Gosh I sure felt like it was a Princess Diaries moment where I was invisible. The lady behind the counter was so nice. All smiles and polite. When I got my order she apologized for the lady who cut me and gave me a free app. Awww so sweet! The kimbap doesn't taste the same as back home but it did the job. The app was bean sprouts with glass noodles. The meal comes with miso soup so I made myself a noodle soup. Will definitely come here again because the lady was so nice and while waiting someone ordered the number 5 on the menu and looked so mouthwatering. Going to try that next time.

Ambiance is casual, interior is clean, and service is fast and attentive. We ordered a couple of dishes and they all came out relatively quickly. The banchan (small side dishes) are refillable once only. My favourite banchan of the day were the bean sprouts and eggplant. There were lots of vegetarian and vegan options, such as the Steamed Vegetable Dumplings, Vegetables Bibimbap, Mushrooms Bibimbap, Vegetables Udon, Vegetables Fried Rice, Kimchi Pancake, Soondubu-jjigae (Soft Tofu Stew) in different variations, and more. The menu was pretty extensive, covering the most typical Korean dishes from the stews and grilled items, to a few Korean-Chinese dishes (such as Jajangmyeon) and everything in between. Steamed Vegetables Dumplings were quite small individually, but came in a sizeable portion. I liked the green onion garnish. Taste-wise, they were alright. Vegetables Bibimbap was excellent - good amount of mixed vegetables (spinach, zucchini, mushrooms, carrot strips, lettuce, bean sprouts) and the fried egg was perfectly crispy on the outer edges, with a still gooey and runny yolk. Grilled Croaker was also decent. It had a lot of small bones as it was a whole fish. It came served with purple rice, and we chose to add on extra lettuce. Seafood Knife Cut Noodles came in a big portion - with lots of slippery, thick udon noodles, pieces of seafood (mussels, clams, squid, shrimps, octopus), and a little big of vegetables (zucchini, carrot, onion). They came in a nice seafood-infused broth - perfect for a cold winter day. I'd come again for the variety of menu items they offer (especially the wide selection of vegetarian options), satisfying tastes, and great & efficient service.

Our favourite item was the seafood pancake. We devoured that and if given a choice to only order one dish, I would definitely recommend the seafood pancake. The budae jeongol (as a solo dish) could easily feed two people. They pack the soup in two large circular soup-like takeout containers and the ingredients in a square container - same as the ones that the bossam and seafood pancake came in. There were plenty of tteokbokki, sausages, cabbage, and ramen noodles. We put the dish together in a wok and kept it heated on a portable induction cooktop. Jajangmein 3.5/5 - Another one of those dishes that I can skip. Only get it so that we can have a variety saucey noodle dish. I can't recommend this spot enough. Make sure to get their kimchi! But also make sure to check your order before leaving. One time I was there, there was a flustered teenager working the front of house. Because I'm a regular there, I touched my order he handed to me and noticed there was no hot soup burning my hand while holding the take out bag. When I brought this up, the chef came out and also mentioned that he had forgotten to pack my two containers of soup. Thank goodness I checked. The banchan was not as fresh as the ones we used to experience at their Bamburgh Circle location (so sad that this location closed) but was still good & edible. My gamjatang arrived piping hot & the portion was massive. The flavor of the broth was missing the depth of the Bamburgh location but it was still delicious. The portion was so huge that I didn't finish my bowl like I normally do. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his meal especially the mackerel. He said it's the best grilled fish he's had. The only compliant that we had is that they were organizing the dishes and cutlery behind the counter making a lot of clanging noises which isn't pleasant while trying to enjoy our dinner. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner and would come back again. My favorite place for Korean currently is Bueokae albeit a bit far.

It is a smaller location compared to the one at Midland & McNicoll Scarborough location; nonetheless, the food here is amazing too! The service is very speedy and courteous - there is always this one lady that takes care of FOH, cleaning up and taking care of everything! You order via QR code online, and the staff will immediately bring you some Korean appetizers to start - all very yummy, and you can ask for refills too! But save room for the food; the food is very satisfying here. I often get the Galbi Tang with beef short ribs, veggies and sweet potato noodles. I love their fried chicken a lot but I can't eat too spicy, so I ask for the sauce on the side for light dipping :) They offer gloves to eat with your hands, and an extra metal bowl to put your bones - very thoughtful!

I like that you can order the egg to be over hard my dad got this and said he liked it. It's his goto! Service was nice. They were so attentive and gave us extra napkins. I do have to say though... They're ALL butter fingers. They dropped things over 5 times on the floor and I saw them put at least 2 of those things back into the clean basket (red) to wipe down and serve. Good thing we sanitize all our utensils everywhere before using them. Vibes are casual. Come in sweatpants. I love their 2000s rnb playlist that they had going.

After we placed our order, they serve us caa cup of hot somen (so good), it warms your stomach. Later the meals came with 5 banchan, they all seasoned perfectly, my favorite is the lotus root and Kimchi. Slice pork broth soup lightly salted and comes with 2 dips (mini sauce pot) on aside, personal preference would be gochujiang mix on the right which gives you a punch of spice. It's hard to find good Korean restaurant in Markham/scarborough. This is definitely a hidden gem, will definitely come back with the boys.

De Chou has a lengthy menu to match with dishes made for a crowd. The broth wasn't very salty but still flavourful and once you let the peppers steep into the broth, they add a lovely spicy kick. Another substantial dish is the steamed pork bo saam ($49.99 for large) where slices of pork belly are kept warm on a hot plate. Diners tuck these soft meat slices into lettuce, Napa cabbage, and turnip with a smear of the savoury bean sauce for a protein packed bite. Our table was split about the haemui pa jeon ($28.99). The size of a medium pizza, it's made for a group. Personally, I found it way too thick and didn't contain enough ingredients to balance out the doughiness of the Korean style pancake. Conversely, my relatives preferred the heft as it contrasted the crispy exterior and soft interior. I guess it depends if you're a thin versus pan crust type of pizza lover. I'm firmly in the Neapolitan camp. I thoroughly enjoyed the crust that develops on the bottom of yachae dolsot bibimbap ($18.99). And the hot stone rice bowl contained a good combination of ingredients to ensure there was plenty of vegetables and beef to go around. De Chou's LA kalbi ($34.99) was rather neutral with very little sauce, so you mostly taste the beef. I personally would have preferred more sauce to help caramelize onto the beef ribs, but the older members of the family appreciated the plainness and liked that it was tender.
