Sunday is poetry night so I decided to come out because I love poetry. On the website it says that it is a $7 charge to get in if your 21 and over. When I got there it was a $10 charge to get in because it is a holiday weekend. I thought that was silly but its only a $3 difference so I still proceeded. When I came in I loved the atmosphere until I saw a piece of paper on each table that said "$10 minimum per person to be seated". So I sat down anyways because I wanted a tea. The waitress said that I couldn't sit at the table because I only wanted to buy a $3 tea. In my opinion it's a nice atmosphere but it's overpriced for a cover charge to listen to a open mic night with unprofessional poets and a $10 minimum to sit at a table. Hopped an Uber to check out Sunday night spoken word. Really enjoyed being able to have that extra craft beer and bourbon since I wasn't driving. Must add that there were some talented wordsmiths in the lineup! Some folks were clearly less polished but I respect the heart it takes to share your perspective in a room full of folks. We arrived there early today around 20 mins before they opened and not only did the staff lets us come in and sit down the service was excellent. The food was astonishing and well worth the cost. Did I spend $100.00 on brunch? Yes but it was worth every penny. The staff went above and beyond offering my 1 year a overflowing old fruit designated for the bar (which he loved). The hot chicken, Mac and cheese, and French toast had to be one of the best things I've ever eaten. My 9 year old requested that we dine there again before we left and we will. Don't overlook this place it was fabulous. Side note the Long Island I've tea I ordered was perfect, many places do not know how to make a correct Long Island but they did. One of my favorite places in Atlanta! I love the vibe, atmosphere, and people! The drinks are pretty watered down but they gotta make their money somehow. The food is reasonably priced & decent. I think they should add hookah to the menu just to expand a little more. I love when dichotomy hosts because he has this revolving poem. I placed a order through Grub Hub shrimp and grits the worse ever. Grits were dry and the presentation is awful. Looked like more more of a side of grits with some shrimp. The interior is cozy and it is decorated beautifully. The tables are small but manageable. I think you have plenty of space. The staff was upbeat and friendly. The open mic was great and the host was funny and entertaining. It was a great show. The 2 main problems here are food and the ladies room. The food takes an extremely long time to get and when it came the fries were cold and the fish sandwich was barely warm. The women's bathroom is a safety hazard. Frankly I'm surprised that it passed Georgia's code of standards. When you step in you are immediately on an incline, which was slippery. There is no anti-skid flooring there. After I surpassed the incline I realized this was the bathroom (1 stall) so I had to maneuver myself back down the incline to lock the door. My sister who has a disability fell in the bathroom. In ATL on vacation, looking for a restaurant near our hotel. Found The Apache Cafe on Yelp. My wife had a spinach salad and the shrimp & grits, I had the jerk chicken wings, which came with a choice of a small spinach salad or fries. I had the spinach salad, which I recommend. The dressing was excellent. We had the pear cobbler for dessert, which was top shelf. Every dish was very good. Would have given the food 5 stars but for a hair in my salad. There was a $10 per person cover to get in, because there was live entertainment (open mic spoken word on Sunday night) and $10 minimum charge for table service. I suggest checking to find out what the entertainment and cover charge are before going. The cover varies depending on what the entertainment is, which adds an element of cost. The Apache Cafe is not just a restaurant. It combines good food and thought provoking entertainment. read more

Let me start by saying the only reason I'm not giving this place 1 star is because of the great talent that performed. Other than that I can't remember the last time I've been so disappointed in the service at any establishment let alone a restaurant. Overall, the food tastes decent but if you are hungry and have the slightest thought that your food should come out in a decent amount of time (especially when there are about 10 patrons in the entire building) then this isn't the place to eat. I am currently sitting at Apache (time 10:30) where I ordered my food at 8:15 & literally just got my food 15mins ago. ABSOLUTELY ridiculous! In the past two hours, I have literally seen 3 other tables send their food back for incorrect orders, and one table cancel their food after waiting so long (remind you there are only 7 occupied tables including mine). To make matters worse, the manager has a very matter-of-fact, unapologetic attitude about all of the complaints. Apache Cafe definitely needs a refresher course in Hospitality 101. Needless to say, regardless of how good the jerk wings are (they are great actually), I will not be returning to this place any time soon. In two hours I could have slaughtered, plucked, and cooked my own chicken. Such a shame because the talent is great there but you don't even have the option to come and not eat (unless you like to drink) since they charge you a minimum of $10 to sit at a table. The vibe in this place was great. We went on a Thursday during trap karaoke and had a blast. What's upsetting is that we arrived super early. A waitress came up to us when there was barely anyone else there and took our drink orders. Half an hour later no drinks and no waitress. So I went to the bar where I waited another half hour to finally get two drinks. I don't know if this is typical for them but my advice is to pregame because you'll miss most of the entertainment waiting at the bar. It seemed that they were understaff because someone I saw greeting people was suddenly behind the bar. read more

Apache has the same vibe it has had for years and years; raw talent on stage and off. No pretension here; people go to hear "underground" artists doing mostly original music and arrangements. Be warned though, you may have to sit through some amateur night-like acts before getting to some of the best and unique talent the city has to offer. The look and feel of the place reminds me of some of the old rhythm and blues clubs in the late 60s and 70s. Apache has a kind of 'pass the peas like they used to say' feel to it. You won't even notice that it is steamy and cramped, well, at least until the low-end amateurs take the stage. read more

We came across this brunch eatery only a few blocks from the museum / World of Coca-Cola / aquarium after we had seen the wait at the Atlanta Breakfast Club. We had a great experience! The staff were all very friendly and hospitable, and it felt like a hidden gem without a wait as of noon on a Saturday. The bar staff can make most any cocktail requested, but you must try Auntie's banana sweet tea. I hadn't had anything like it before. It is quite sweet, and banana taffy-flavored. The brunch menu has very solid options adding some creative flair to brunch staples. We shared our dishes: avocado toast (with bacon and eggs benedict style), chilaquiles with beef that weren't too spicy for my tastes, Hong Kong french toast which looked like brownies and were extra crispy on the outside and not too sweet with very sweet strawberries. There were also items on the menu which were more meat and dairy heavy, including lamb and eggs and a twist on macaroni and cheese. The portions were large enough but not enormous, and were filling. The staff never allowed any of our cups to be empty, even if we only had water--they came around four, five, six times to make sure that we had more fluid to drink, which is important in the hot summer weather. And, the prices were very reasonable! For the value and service, the meal really didn't seem expensive, the place wasn't crowded, and we didn't feel rushed. I don't think I could have stumbled upon a better brunch experience. It is adjacent to many of the attractions downtown and would be a great place to visit before, between, or after seeing the attractions. read more

Door Greeter: Very friendly guy. This is my third time visiting and I was excited to get back once I moved to Atlanta. First time visiting was in 2009 and second and third time in April and May of 2012. Staff: Very friendly bartender and customers. The bartender tried his best to hook up the Wii so my wife and I could play. Website: We arrived early to assure a comfortable seat. The website said to arrive early. We were not disappointed because there was something to do besides talk. Tuesday Hip Hop night: We ordered drinks ($7 wine and $5 bear and shot special) upon arrival...place was empty at 9pm. Free for ladies before 10pm. As stated before, we played the Wii Bowling until the show started. We ate some delicious jalapeno cornbread and wings (jerk?). It was very hot and juicy when it reached the table....my wife is a really good cook so there was no comparison. I would order it again though. The DJ and musicians were awesome to listen to! Five Stars! Crowd: Did not seem to really be too into it. Sunday Open Mic: We arrived early but I was so frustrated from trying to park. The Ultra Lounge next door already had a hefty crowd so there was no parking on the street. The immediate parking lot cost a heft $15...wow. I finally found a $3 lot in the rain after an hour of driving around and trying to find change. The show started about 30 minutes after said starting time. We paid $7 each for the show but I'd say the feature was worth that all by herself. She was a wonderful lyricist and songstress from Chicago. I didn't mind putting money in the plate they passed around for her. I didn't care for but two other artist...a young poets love poem for his g/f on her birthday and a hip-hop rapper. The host stated over and over that he should come on hip-hop night but he was clearly from another state and Tuesday night...I'm sure he's at home...duh. I'm glad he performed anyway. The waiter was nice but she put her hand on my knee in front of my wife (i'm a female as well)....not good. A smile and good service is all we need. lol. In the future, I will not arrive on a Sunday before 10pm. One last thing that was disturbing was the huge cockroach on the wall behind the stage. I sat all the way in the back and I could see it on the wall. I wonder if I was the only one. It rained that night so maybe the roach needed shelter...lol. GROSS!! Crowd: Not too happy until the feature artist...much like myself. We left right after. I took my lady here and when we got there it was filled with naked men walking all around calling themselves models very tasteless and a very horrible thing. We had to pay 15dollars parking ang 10 dollars a head to get in. And we wound up staying less than 5min what a waste of time. Was in atlanta for a wedding and wanted to show the bf around the city. He wanted live music so we ended up here. At first glance, the place is down a dead end street with homeless people hanging outside. I was a bit hesitant at first, but we found parking two blocks away and walked in and grabbed the last seat near the front. The show was just starting so we were very fortunate to not only get a parking spot but a seat as well. They had approximately 6/7 different artists compete to see who would be the winner for the month. They also brought in the winner from last month to perform a few songs, Olivia was amazing! There were a lot of very talented artists from all over. I applaud their confidence and exuberance. The emcee made a comment about my bf not being a "cracker" but overall we did not feel uncomfortable at all being the minorities there. All in all I was pleasantly surprised. read more

I had been waiting to come to Apache Cafe for a while now since I heard nothing but good things about it. 1st. Upon arrival I was really glad we purchased tickets and a table in advance online or else there wouldn't have been anywhere to sit. As we were walking in, a couple was at the register asking for a refund since there was nowhere to sit. Very, very small venue. 2.Food was overpriced.. $5 for fries that were cold, hard and without a drop of salt and $13 for a patron margarita! Too damn much for a small place like this. 3. Just as we started to get a little comfortable in the broken wobbly chairs, the so called comedian OD O'Dell and host ( can't recalled his name but an overly buffed guy in a very tight shirt with locs ) made several very uncomfortable homophobic jokes within the first 10 minutes. This is Atlanta, so of course there are plenty of obvious gay singles and couples there, so why is gay still the topic of the conversation?! Very uncomfortable and insulting. So uncomfortable, me and my fiancée and friend just got up left. So to sums it's all up I spent(wasted) $100.. $20 admission, $25 for a table, $40 food and drinks between my fiancée and $15 in parking just to have uncomfortable time. Should've went to Daiquiri Factory.. Will NOT return and hope to find a more gay friendly spoken word cafe. read more

I love supporting businesses like this- showcasing underground talent is a beautiful thing and I wish more venues did this. The spot is very quaint and has a cozy atmosphere about it. My waitress was attentive although a little rude and my drink was on point. So why only three stars? Well, as far as the food goes next time I will do without. Because I know the difference between "blacken" and burnt, I'll say that the 4 to 5 small frozen shrimp thrown on top of my grits were BRUNT; included with the shrimp was one sliver slice of a red pepper and one sliced piece of onion with brunt gravy. After I scraped that off of the grits, I found the grits tasty...I didn't even have to ask for salt. But much work is needed for this dish, even if they went to Walmart and bought a $5 bag of frozen shrimp- they wouldn't have to skimp out so bad. But to hold out on the main ingredient, I mean....it is called Shrimp and Grits for a reason and for $14.00 bowl- you could have at least thrown in about 3 to 5 mores pieces of shrimp in there--I could see if they were tiger shrimp then maybe 3 shrimp would be enough or even if they served large shrimp then I should least be able to get about 5 pieces... but 4 small shrimp and frozen at that... for $14.00... I think they could do better . I would go again for the entertainment but I will definitely eat before I leave home. read more

Apache Cafe is the hidden treasure in Atlanta. I've attended their Wednesday Jam Sessions faithfully for years and have even hit the stage a few times. Once you become a regular, it feels like family because everyone knows you. If you are new to this place be prepared for the chill ambiance and free spirits roaming around. The only thing that annoys me when attending this location is there is not a lot of seating and when crowded it could be a chore attempting to walk from the back to the door but all and all this place rocks!!! read more
