But this man was hungry, I ordered a combo plate. It had a beef taco, a tostada, and an enchilada. With just a little bit of rice thrown in for good measure. OK - now here's the thing. Was the food any good? Was the ambience of the restaurant adequate for the price point? Yes and yes! Gotta say I was impressed. And a special shout out to the waiter, who gladly took a picture of us while we were chowing down our meal! Needless to say the waiter made all the difference, frankly - the service was very impressive and the food was pretty darn good too. Oh, I forgot to mention the chips and salsa? Very garlic forward and a nice little spicy hit and was absolute perfection! The funny part of it is that this place was right across the field from where the Seattle Mariners do their spring training - I had brought my mom here, probably 25 years ago as she was a major Mariners fan and wanted to see this place. Of course the restaurant wasn't across the street back then! But what a cool location and what a nice restaurant. Definitely will return when I'm back in the Phoenix area!

You can tell the quality of the ingredients was good, but the *flavor* was just not there. This began with the salsa, which looked promising but had zero taste. My group had three entrees - beer battered fish tacos, the 3 taco combo (cochinita pibil, quesabirria, and a taco de tinga), and the mixed grill. I also had the La Sandia cocktail, which took forever and tasted... unfortunate. It had an odd salty note and a weirdly thick consistency that reminded me of PediaLyte. Not the best beginning. The overall theme for the meals was the same - everything was acceptable but boring, especially in the flavor we were hoping for. The term we came up with was "inoffensive" - no spice to speak of in anything, despite the items being seasoned and not bland. The mixed grill is huge and the grilled cheese included is a fun addition, and the ingredients in the tacos tasted high-quality (lots of raves about the tortillas) but there was no kick to anything. Perhaps we needed to adjust expectations, but when I come to a Mexican place - even a chain - I expect a little more, you know? Service was very slow during an admittedly slow time of day and it took a long time to receive anything besides chips, but everything was fresh when it arrived. Portion sizes were perfectly acceptable for the price. Our visit was not memorable and I don't expect to be back, but we were glad to give it a try.

While I was walking to the restroom, which is located past the kitchen area, I heard a server/bartender we've seen several times before ask the cook, in an obviously annoyed tone, if two people had just arrived. When he said yes, she responded, "Who the fuck!?" The cook then looked directly at me. At that point, I honestly felt extremely uncomfortable and wanted to leave. We decided to stay since my boyfriend had already ordered a beer, but the experience immediately felt different. We felt like our presence was an inconvenience simply because we came in an hour before closing. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for it. We ordered the beef skewers and a burger. The skewers were okay, but they were not nearly as good as we remembered them being. The burger, however, arrived completely cold. What makes this especially disappointing is that we used to really enjoy coming here. We understand that being close to closing time can be frustrating for a restaurant, but customers should still feel welcomed, especially when they are coming in well before closing and have supported the restaurant in the past. We really hope this was just a bad night, because we genuinely used to love coming here. But after this experience, we unfortunately left feeling very disappointed.

Seating outside has a few round picnic style tables with umbrellas. We ordered one Machaca burrito and one Carne Asada burrito. I used to love the Machaca at this restaurant. It was always full of tomatoes and onions, peppers and shredded meat, but on today's visit, I felt it was lacking all of the above. I will say the meat was seasoned well, but there wasn't much inside my burrito. Please see photos below. The Carne Asada burrito was a little bit larger. It consisted of pico, guacamole, beans, cheese, and grilled steak. The steak had a nice char on it. We each ordered a side of green chili.
