This place is so cute! I love the ambiance inside; it's very Brooklyn with the loft and exposed brick and greenery inside. I love the natural light from the skylight. I don't think there's AC though. It was kinda hot when I was inside. What we ordered: - Duck fried rice - this was super good and moist (I know people hate this word but that's all I can say to describe it). Five of decided to walk in to Antidote around 9 pm on Saturday and were lucky to be seated within 10 minutes. The place was moderately busy and noise levels were on the louder end of the spectrum. A very welcoming hostess got us seated and we went straight to ordering our cocktails and food. For cocktails, we ordered the Chai-spresso with Mezcal ($17) which was pretty coffee forward with Espresso overpowering Mezcal's taste. For dinner our small plates consisted of Leshan Chicken ($15) and Spicy Pork Dumplings ($9) - both were flavorful to disappear off the table pretty quickly. For mains, I got the Cauliflower with Fresh Pepper ($16), and a side of Jasmine rice ($2) and we also ordered Green Peppercorn Fish Stew ($25). Generous portions that we couldn't really finish our meal and had to pack our leftover food, which we did enjoy the next day. The Cauliflower with Fresh Pepper was very flavorful - the only problem with it though was that it was too greasy for me. I did not enjoy the after taste of all that oil! This is one of my go-to's for good chinese food (though I hate that it's not the closest to the subway line!) I love the ambiance of this place: it gives a classy/modern chinese vibe and there's actually room to breath between tables. My standout dishes here are the crab tofu and scallion pancake...though I introduced the crab tofu to some of my non-chinese coworkers and they said they thought it was too heavy. My friend and I ordered an obscene amount of food but in our defense everything on the menu looked amazing and we were hungry! Here is what we ordered from our favorite to our least favorite- 1. Fish Blossoms- so good!!! Even if you don't like fish I would still get this item- it's really that tasty. It's a boneless tilapia that's fried and then soaked in a sweet and sour sauce and oh man it is just *chef's kiss.*. The funny thing is we didn't have any intention of ordering this but saw another group of people order it and knew that we had to try it- no regrets whatsoever and if I see this dish anywhere else I will certainly be getting it. 2. Feihong Spicy Prawn- also very good but not for the faint of heart as it is quite spicy. Do take note that you can eat the bed of peppers that the prawns are sitting in! It's very crispy and a dry dish but it works well. 3. Fried rice with fresh shrimp- yes this is not an authentic Chinese dish by any means but it is a nice filler/rice to soak up all that tasty sweet and sour sauce from the Fish Blossoms dish. 4. Hunan style stir fried beef- my least favorite dish by far of the night and the only reason I gave Antidote 4 stars instead of 5 stars. Our waitress recommended this to us but both my friend and I felt like it didn't taste any different from regular Chinese takeout- and why spend $28 when you can spend $10? It is so bright with natural light with a really cool patio seating feeling, though you're inside. Service was decent and there were a variety of people eating there. Antidote may be my favorite restaurant in NYC. It's a neighborhood favorite I'm lucky enough to live across the street from. The service is phenomenal and the service is even better. I bring all of my friends here and they are blown away by the food. Our favorites are the Duck Fried Rice and the dish similar to Sweet and Sour Chicken. We are obsessed with it. No matter where you sit (the front, the bar, or the back) and the experience and ambiance always amazing. After walking over the Williamsburg Bridge to Brooklyn, my friends and I decided to dine at Antidote due to its great rating on yelp/google maps. My friends and I walked late afternoon on a weekday. It was quite empty inside - maybe only 2-3 other tables occupied. From first impression, the restaurant almost seems as if it was a roomy warehouse location transformed into a modern Chinese restaurant. They really decorated the interior really nicely. They made use of the lights and plants to make the space more homey. My friends and I decided to share several dishes family-style. We ordered: MAPO TOFU I've surprisingly never had Mapo Tofu before, so I don't have a reference to compare it to. However, the tofu was super soft to eat. It would break off when you picked it up with chopsticks, so you have to use a spoon. The sauce is spicy, but nothing that one can't handle. I enjoyed the spicy kick. DONGPO PORK As mentioned on the menu, it's pork belly that has been braised for 8 hours - meaning that every bite is super soft. The meat pieces fall right off with each bite. The sauce surrounding the meat is sweet. My friend raved a lot of how good it was and I agree. MIXED VEGETABLE FRIED RICE The vegetable fried rice is nothing special. It's like a typical Chinese fast food fried rice that taste slightly more healthier with more fresh ingredients. It has a mixed of cut up carrots, peas, broccoli and eggs. The only reason we decided to order this is because it compliments the spicy tofu and sweet soft pork. Overall, all the food options we ordered were super good. It was filing enough for us. But big bro (aka Guh Guh) whipped out his Mandarin at the front and sweet-talked the hostess, so we were seated within 5 minutes. Like Guh Guh always says, "Sweet talk but don't intimidate her!" I love Sichuan, and Antidote did elevated Sichuan just right. Every dish and cocktail that we had was authentic yet had its own unique Antidote twist to it. We were absolutely obsessed with every dish, but the highlight for us was the Sichuan Chili Fried Chicken. I think Antidote did it better than most hole in the wall restaurants I've been to. It was so hard to order because everything on the menu looked amazing. The service was also efficient and fast without feeling like a rush. The decor was also pleasing and simple yet elegant, and the music was the right volume. A perfect place to have a meal with friends and family. Had an interesting dinner at Antidote. We came for the live jazz. It starts at 6:30 (not 6, which is what the website claims). Totally fine. The industrial space provides for an interesting decor, but the acoustics are far from ideal. Food: We had the mapo tofu and fish fillet with chili oil. Both were delicious. We also had a preserved egg, which was a unique (and colorful) appetizer to share at the beginning. Note that the spice level can be a bit on the stronger side. Also got the pea shoots. Service was quite impersonal but relatively efficient. The reason for the two-star review has to do with an uninvited discovery in one of the dishes (and the subsequent reaction). I kept chewing and chewing to the point where my food wouldn't break down. When I spit it out, I realized it was a piece of black plastic. I immediately flagged someone down to show it to her. She was understandably apologetic and of course took the dish off the bill. When I asked for an explanation as to how this happened, I was told that the broken piece of plastic belonged to a takeout container. When I asked why it would be in the middle of my cooked food...hidden to the point where I couldn't see it...I was simply told "I don't know." After putting two and two together, we came to the grim realization that they are using leftover food and reheating it for diners at the restaurant. That's quite disgusting. This might happen at a lower quality restaurant, but I wasn't expecting this at a place like Antidote. I had noticed this new spot over the summer when I frequently trekked to the nearby domino park, and it always poppin so I knew I would have to check it out. I must say I'm so glad I did. Want to start off by saying this is such a cute and homey space. It is very spacious...almost made me forget I was in New York! Beautiful dishes and kind waiters only contributed to the ambiance. The food itself was great. Highlight was definitely the pork belly and the dumplings. Great flavors and textures that will definitely have me coming back to try other dishes. I've wanted to try antidote since I saw it online and I was not disappointed! We got the spicy cabbage and sui mai to start. The spicy cabbage was so refreshingly sour and spicy that paired so well with a warm bed of rice! I don't think this dish is for someone who doesn't like eating pickled vegetables but if you do, please order it! The sui mai was so good especially with the sticky rice and as someone who doesn't usually like duck, I thought he flavors and texture was fantastic! For our main we got the green peppercorn steamed fish and fish tofu! The fish was spicy so be aware when you order this but I thought the pickle flavor was also delicious. Antidote has some drawbacks to be sure, the biggest one being that it is pretty hard to get a table there, but the food is outstanding--with a lot of options--and when the bill comes, it always seems like a pretty good value. I do wish their drink menu was a little stronger, and if you aren't there for the last seating, you might get rushed out, but that doesn't stop us from going often. The hidden strength of this place is that the menu is so extensive, much more so than Birds of Feather, the closest rival, both in distance and cocenpt. That makes it easier to find exactly what you want. For example, there are a few different fish dishes: steamed whole, a couple different ways, stewed in spicy broth, and probably others. We usually end up with one of these. As indicated above, I wish the drink menu was more extensive. It's a cool place too, and always lively, especially on weekend night. (The coating gave a pork rinds) -cauliflower--spicy and roasted nicely NOT SO GREATS -Shrimp fried rice-- bland separately, but convinced myself that possibly it was lacking flavor bc everything else is bursting with spice and flavor. A palate balance maybe? Lol -ribs -- tough however the flavor was there -leshan chicken---so visually it's captivating and appealing. That being said I was the first to dig in and boy was I surprised and not in a good way. I take a bite and was turned off by the temp (the dish is cold). In the description it does say poached however I wasn't expecting very cold almost freezer cold chicken. FYI the flavor is there but BEWARE LOL Overall the experience wasn't great but it wasnt bad at all. It was mid and I want to go back because I know the potential to love this place is there. First of all our server was amazing. She was so sweet! She made the experience a 10/10. If I could give 10 stars I would. She really set the tone for the dining experience. The drinks. We had a a mescal mix shot that was smooth and Smokey. The empress gin 1908 mix was great. I have photos of this beautiful drink. Presentation was beautiful. The FOOD! Okay. Fresh. Everything was cooked to perfection. Lamb was juicy and flavorful. Spicy beef oil was great how do I say... I wanted to put that on everything. The crab rice was delectable. People who are from areas where you have fresh seafood know what I mean when I say FRESH CRAB. The Prawns were large and packed so much flavor. The restaurant was modern and simple design is relaxing. I fell in love with the "greenhouse space" with the cascading vine plants, terrarium and potted plants. I appreciated the trinkets throughout the restaurant. The restroom was clean and spacious. Highly recommend this place for a date, small group 2- 6, lunch or dinner. read more

Absolutely loved the cocktails and interior of the restaurant! Food wise, we weren't particularly impressed (we stuck primarily to dim sum items as we weren't that hungry) but would come back again for the cocktails. For food I'd rate it 3/5 but rounding up to 4/5 for the drinks and ambiance. read more
