One would think that with all of the added residential buildings it would allow the retail shops and eateries to thrive but what we witnessed today was anything but that. Most of the retail businesses that were here one year ago are long gone and almost all of the restaurants were completely empty. Meter parking is tight but plentiful weekdays. After long walking in the heat, we managed to find a few interesting retro shops and great pizza.

The Oakwood Plaza was constructed on the same land where the old Six Flags Atlantis Waterpark…read moreexisted in the 1980s. In 1994 this plaza became a bustling shopping extravaganza in east Hollywood for years until the Dania Pointe mega shopping center stole a majority of it's customers. The parking lot has adequate spaces to support the plaza activity. Entry into the plaza is simple off Sheridan Street and Stirling Road. The Dave and Busters, BJ's Wholesale Club, Home Depot, Ross, City Furniture and Miller's Ale House have continued to stay in business but unknown if they are thriving. The Regal Oakwood Theaters is finally permanently closed and now the new ultra modern Regal Cinema has opened in Dania Pointe directly across the street. The Gold's Gym and the Big Lots are also out of business. There are several EV stations at the NE corner of the plaza. In my opinion, within the next three years, the Dania Pointe will eventually destroy all hopes of this plaza's lifeline.

From Takashi Murakami, Austin Lee, Robert Indiana, and 23 other pieces by different artists in a series they call ArtWalk. They're very dog-friendly. We saw hundreds of dogs and their humans - not sure if there was an event or if this was just the norm here. But it was fun to watch cute little puppies. I visited during the World Cup and they had an area dedicated for it. They had a pop-up FIFA store which had items I wanted but haven't found at the stadiums. The mall is bright with natural lighting during the day. Nice and cool which is a nice reprieve from the unforgiving sun and summer heat. It's spacious and clean.

This is one of those high-end malls! But they also had some very good food vendors in the hallways where I got the majority of my snacks and I even got some snacks for Teddy. I was hoping the cute little dog park on the outside would be available to us, but it didn't open until 2:00 p.m. And we were at the mall fairly early. It was a great visit because most of the employees were dog friendly! I'll definitely have to make a trip back to this mall without a dog.
