The store was crowded probably because the prices are low. A promo day sign at the entrance with different color tags for discounts. They have a huge collection of clothes but only three small fitting rooms. I found several great items for a good deal. Parking is easy in the strip shopping center. read more

It's one of the better thrift stores in the area. They have a wide variety of items, handicrafts, home goods, & unique American art pieces. The musty smell is overwhelming especially if you have allergies. I highly recommend wearing a face mask & gloves while you shop. They also write prices with permanent marker defacing and ruining some of the art pieces, which I find weird & destructive. The price point is in the middle, but many decent or quality items are grotesquely overpriced. I reccomend going on weekend evenings or weekdays. They replenish the store regularly, & it's easier to move around the store. read more

This plaza had a two thrift stores which drew large crowds. I love these stores to browse for old records, comic books and trinkets. Noticed the sign inside that explained the customer excitement with 50% off all items on this Friday morning. To my enjoyment, they had vintage records, altgough, they were in very bad shape. It was a very large store with many aisles of used clothing, sporting equipment, purses, stereos and various vintage trinkets. The customers here were overly energetic shoppers and I was in fear of getting trampled - LOL, well it felt like that anyways. They also offered another double-bay American Thrift Store next door selling large wooden furniture for home and office, bedding and even a poker table. I am a regular customer at American Thrift. I am also a club member. I went into the furniture store on last friday, In the past i was told by the manager "Joanna " I believe is her name that when you want to purchase an item you have to remove the price tag which is an orange paper taped to the item. You turn that in to the cashier to purchase, and that is how you claim your item. On this particular morning I did just that, and waited for the manager "Joanna" to finish up with a customer. I showed her the price tag and let her know that I wanted to purchase the item. She proceeded to tell me that the lady that she was with wanted to buy the items. I responded to her by saying you just told me that the protocol to purchase is to remove the tag and give it to you to show that we are claiming this item. So why did the customer not do that? I then proceeded to tell her that I have been standing there for 20 to 30 minutes waiting for her patiently only for her to tell me that I could not purchase it. It came off very much as favoritism and she actually admitted to me that I was right, but she still sold the items which was two artificial plants to the other customer. The rules are the rules why change them from one day to another. It was very unfair and for her to be the manager she's not consistent at all! That's bad business read more

This thrift store has a pretty wide selection, so there's a little something for everyone. Some pieces are more worn-in than others, but that's part of the thrifting adventure. Prices range from fair to great depending on what you grab, and if you're willing to dig, you can score some gems especially with the rotating discounts (based on tag color) and special days. I've been here twice now and can say the clothes run the spectrum from "just okay" to "wow, that's in really good condition." I've also seen some items of clothing with tags, brand new. This store has been in Fla several years and today it was packed, it was white and blue tags,50 percent off. I dislike standing in line for anything, especially used stuff. I was looking for a part for my percolator and of course, there was non to be found. I saw a cute little purse in yellow but I already have a yellow leather purse so why do I need another? I put it back as I don't need seconds of anything else. I am trying to streamline my belongings so I don't need any more stuff. I love the minimalist style, this is great when you move, less stuff to pack. At this store, you will find new and used stuff but this store is dirty and messy. I did like some of the art next store. I love thrifting so I do find lots of great brand name clothes for incredible prices. Most of my purchases look brand new. Friends that go thrifting with me sometimes don't find as much as I do because they don't have the patience. I look at every item on the rack and spend countless hours looking. American Thrift store is my therapy! The only items I don't buy are electronics/electrical items because you can't return them. My friend tested and purchasesd a wireless phone and when she got home realized that although the light turned on when she tested it at the store, the phone was not charging. Another thing I don't purchase is costume jewelry. The person pricing them is not at all familiar with brands. They had a used Avon brooch priced at 24.99. read more

American Thrift is a for profit chain. It's not a charity, but claims to donate some of their monies to various charities. If that's the main or only reason you're here, then skip this brand. If you like bargain shopping or just browsing through these type of shops, however, this one is a huge store with lots of clothes. Mixed into the women's sections -- all organized by color, were some high end brand names. I didn't find anything that appealed, but you might. There was a shirt my husband liked, but not enough. Some of their items are fairly pricey. This is a place more for clothes, etc., than bric a a brac. But there is a small section of miscellaneous housewares, whatnots, China, etc. The store is located where there is a very large lot, so parking is no problem whatsoever. It's not far from 441, but is set a bit back from the road. Signs on the doors require you to wear masks and they do social distance at the registers. read more

Checking out American Thrift in Hollywood is a hobby for me. Why? Most of my clothes come from the store. And I've also decorated my condo with photos and nick knacks from the store which is a five minute drive from my home. So I save on gas getting there. And I save lots of money -- especially compared to prices I would pay retail. I even do well when I visit the two furniture stores to the left and right of the thrift store. I've gotten quality name-brand wood furniture at very reasonable prices. The two furniture stores also fill a bowl with Hershey kisses. Even better, the sales people don't mind if I pig out on them! As for service, it's great, even though the thrift store can get busy. Posh and Ana are two wonderful cashiers. I hope their bosses realize they've got some friendly, hard workers at the store. read more

If you don't speak Spanish, you'll probably be confused. They have items with no tag on them. You can wait in the line that's moving at a snail's pace with the tagless item and when you finally get to the register, they'll look aimlessly at the item before saying it can't be sold because there's no tag. read more

This place used to be great when the donations went to breast cancer research. Now that it's gone corporate, it is a mess. There are three stores of crap shoved into one store. They have added so many aisles that two people can't walk down them at the same time. God forbid you get in an aisle with someone with a cart. You can't get around them without burrowing into the clothes. And speaking of clothes, the clothes are compacted so tightly on the racks that the hangers are impossible to move so you can look at the items. All the dishes, tchotchkes, bric-a-brac, and other stuff on the shelves are packed tight and piled so high and so unsorted that it would take you days to find something you are looking for. Checkout is a nightmare and always a long wait. It is understaffed by people who are paying more attention to each other than expediting the process. The checkout problem is exacerbated by cashiers signing people up for their ridiculous "rewards program" (you only get a reward if you come back on a certain day). This place needs to: Reduce their inventory by at least 50%. Eliminate at least 2 or 3 aisles to make shopping more navigable. Hire more cashiers and give them a living wage to ensure quality personnel. Drop their insipid rewards program. read more

This store has a great selection and for pretty reasonable prices - if you come to this one, you would be surprised at what you can find without putting too big of a dent in your wallet. I do however have a couple grievances which factor in the three star rating. This is a chain of thrift stores with a few locations in South Florida and one in New York. I had previously been to the Lauderhill location. My problem seems to be the same in both stores, everything I pick up is dirty or damaged. They sell clothing, house hold goods, accessories, jewelry, children's toys, furniture, and sporting goods. On Friday they have a happy hour sale from 4 to 8 where everything is half off. They also have additional discounts during coupon, customer appreciation, and senior citizen days. The store doesn't give off the best impression. Like items are grouped together but not in an attractive way. I didn't think the prices were all that great either. A set of China with no cups was $200. When I thrift I am looking for an unexpected treasure or a bargain. I found neither here. read more

My wife was sold a very expensive watch which does not work. After requesting a refund the very next day, the store refuses to issue a refund or store credit. At the time of purchase, my wife was told that the watch simply needed new batteries. However, we discovered that it is not a battery powered watch. Moreover, she was led to believe that the watch head was solid 10k gold. It is gold plated. The store claims an as-is policy, but at the time of sale, the watch was represented as working. They have a whole new trick going on in the linen department.... They are now labeling all sheets, shower curtains and anything else that is textile, "Queen." That includes all sheets, crib, twin, full & queen. The problem with that is that the price is now higher on linens.. Not a nice trick to those of us that survive on thrift stores. Please be aware of this little trickery. Other than that. You need to go through every item and make sure there are no stains, no zippers missing, buttons missing or torn seams... and they are prevalent. 10 years ago, this was the best thrift store in town... Thrifting is sport for me, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this spot! After spending the day looking for a new couch (which I did not find anywhere!) and finding myself further from home than usual, I actually found American on Yelp and decided to check it out. Although I did not find a couch in their large/separate furniture department, I did note that a lot of their furniture was priced much lower than I usually find it at Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc. Then in the regular thrift side I found SO MANY treasures at such AMAZING prices. Uranium glass for 99¢, vintage Pyrex for $1.50, a gorgeous walnut Dansk bowl for under $2. Let me tell you, I have made some bigger scores thrifting, but nowhere have I found so many amazing things for so cheap all in one go. I will definitely be back and check out their other locations - hopefully they'll be just as great! read more

Actually a fave thrift of mine. I have found many high end items here for reasonable prices however the majority of the items are overpriced. They have a nice selection of furniture. Some days I score and others I don't. My favorite find is a vintage Gucci purse that was in excellent condition except the lining had been removed. Vintage Gucci bags have leather interiors that disintegrated over time. Due to the lining being removed it was cheaply priced IMO. The lines can be super longggggg to check out read more

Being a frequent visitor of the University Drive location, I figured I had to check the other locations out. We were greeted my friendly staff members who informed us of the color of the day specials. The store is a bit more organized and has more room to browse the aisles than the other location. Employees were putting new products out every so often, so it took us a couple hours to check it all out. I LOVE American Thrift Stores. I found a multitude of designer polos for my husband, and my #1 find was a "Like New" Coach leather belt for .99 cents!! Polos were between 5.99-2.50 depending on color discount. Only downside to shopping here is the location. There were a couple homeless people hanging around or laying on the floor of the shopping strip (not in the immediate store area). Recommendation to management: please clearly post where the check out line starts. It was very confusing to figure out because there were people lined up on both sides of the cash registers. The sales are just never ending! Honestly if you want a good deal you should seriously try thrifting. Not only are gems so often, but they're cheaper than retail price and definetly great quality. American Thrift Stores is my go to shopping place now, I can buy A tiere clothing all the while saving big. Not just that, but I visit throughout the different stores and got myself a table with a set of chairs saving more than 50% otherwise. The employees were direct and I went in and out getting exactly what I needed. Not only that but they also inform me of days I should come to save even more money (thank you very much for that information!) Buyer Beware!!!!! American Thrift store of Hollywood FL sells preowned fake high-end-watches for the prices of real ones!!!!!!! For years in the glass showcase behind their jewelry counter they sell these replica Rolexes, Cartiers, and more from $900-over a thousand dollars!!!!! Imitation Rolex or Cartier should cost no more than $150, if they are preowned then perhaps $20!!!! However there is no justification for selling a knock off rolex for almost a thousand bucks!!!!! Whenever a customer asks them if its real they always claim nothing is warranted nor guaranteed in order to cover themselves from liability, however by pricing it so high they give an impression and false illusion that it's a genuine preowned!!! On one occasion I witnessed one of the store clerks, whom I have known for a long time and who is extremely friendly with me, standing behind the jewelry counter at American Thrift and showing a Rolex, which was priced at $950, to a customer who was interested in buying it. He asked her if it was a genuine, her response was "we don't guarantee anything" then after he left I pulled her over to the side and asked her the same question, if whether or not it was a genuine, she had whispered in my ear and said "it wasn't." If they screw you with one of these fake watches you are stuck!!! They do not accept returns and by telling you "there is no guarantees on authenticity" they therefore just covered themselves from liabilities!!!! Anyone in the consignment or thrift business are experts at spotting a replica, therefore I am certain that American Thrift are aware these are fakes and deliberately attempts to deceive customers. Some of these fake rolexes and Cartiers are so obviously fake, their gold plating is wearing off (genuine Rolex and Cartier only use solid real gold and never plating), the bands are light and hollow instead of solid as with genuine, some even have a stamp of China on the back, however they pretend as if they are naive and play dumb to give customers the illusion that its a genuine and that they just scored a deal of a lifetime. I wonder how many customers have already been deceived by them over the years. I am certain if American Thrift ever came across a genuine Rolex or Cartier they would send it directly to auction to ensure they net the highest and best price for it, instead of placing it in that glass showcase behind their jewelry counter. ------------------UPDATE------------------ My friend's boyfriend who was a former employee of American Thrift mentioned that half of the customers who were interested in those "high end watches" never even inquired as to their authenticity, certainly since they assumed they were genuine due to the expensive price. read more
