Went to this place on a weekend during happy hour and was delighted to find that it was not as packed as Anthony's Homeport was. My mother and I sat in the bar and received excellent service. Our server must have checked on us every 15mins and was willing to do anything in her power to make sure we were happy. We are now planning a group gathering at this restaurant due to our experience. read more

We only went here because it was our 22nd weeding anniversary and my wife loves the garlic cheese appetizer and burnt cream. Over priced menu and a wait staff that is really bothered that you want them to wait on you. I arrived and almost finished my water before our waitress arrived. I asked about the drink selection to which she knew nothing about and was bothered because she had to ask the bartender about Bourbon. I am not a perv and usually don't look at a woman's chest but our server had her shirt so far open. If her breast had been in the right place they would have been able to be seen by everyone. The steak i ordered (medium) was burnt on one side and not even cooked on the other. The early bird special is not going to save this place. read more

Definition of insanity... Trying this restaurant over and over again expecting a different ( better) result. Not going to happen. The location is exquisite, hence the expectation of a great meal and fun time gathering with family and friends. Went there on a Thursday night, 6 pm with 4 of us. Had a great time, but the service was very poor, waitress in a Coma for the most part. Forgot or disregarded simple requests. Food portions small, ( that is ok), but very inconsistent... Seafood Mac was really bad, bland, no flavor whatsoever, and 1/3 the size of a respectable pasta dish. Crab corn chowder was good, received one cold, one hot. Salads were reasonably good all 4 of them. I decided to try the waygu beef burger, came with fries, added cup of soup and salad for $36.00, that won't happen again, and the burger with cheese (19.00) was embarrassing. Tiny, zero flavor, served with 13, count em 13 French fries... We still enjoyed ourselves, but the waitress needs to NOT work in public, she did not smile once, barely spoke, and one could tell she was not enjoying being there. I was disappointed with my meal. I order the prowns when my food arrived the plate had a mound of potatoes with six small shrimp. When I questioned our server about the small shrimp he said there is no difference between shrimp and prawns. I would suggest that you go online and understand the difference between shrimp and prawns. No adjustment was offered. read more

Also, they don't have clam chowder on the menu, but upon my request they went next door to Anthony's Home Port and brought some for us. I had the four course flank steak happy hour dinner. I liked the Caesar salad well enough. The flank steak was completely tasteless. Not worth the money at all. I go to restaurants because they are in the business of preparing food. I expect them to take their business seriously and prepare food well. Where do I begin overall such a poor experience. I came with my mom for her birthday and had a coupon, we wanted to do the four course meal. Right away the server said no, well when I had my birthday no problem honoring it. The server said bluntly I've been here 7 years I know the rules. I asked, could you just ask the manager, again I've been here 7 years, do you want regular menus? I said I guess. Didn't even go out of her way to ask to prove her point. Than she snatches the 4 course menus and leaves. Than she comes back and says the manager will make an exception and begins looking at my coupon and writing down my moms full first and last name and checking her id and asking for her email. Than when we ordered our beers we waited for a while, even longer for mine since I guess she had to change the keg. I got it towards the end of my second course. Than when she went to take our plates the soup cups slipped from her and almost went crashing on me no sorry, nothing just thought I could of got it. Didn't care that something spilled on me or not, said good thing they were empty well they weren't there was residue from the leftover soup that got a little on me. Than when we got our check long and behold she didn't take the coupon off and I said the b-day coupon didn't get taken off, all I got in response is: "Ya, its there." But it wasn't than she overcharged for me beer on happy hour but couldn't say anything because she ran off so quickly. Very poor service and food was okay not even warm. Not impressed. Location great, waitstaff was great. The steak salad was underwhelming, not impressed by having sliced steak sitting on top of a 1/2 head of romaine lettuce. I ordered the Dungeness Crab Toast. Tasted ok but when it says crab as the first ingredient you expect to actually see a little crab. I asked if it was fresh crab, not canned they said yes but I'm at a loss as to what they consider crab. Saw a few strands but you had to search for it. Totally not impressed and don't expect to go back. For a $30 lunch we expected to feel somewhat full, maybe it's the free sourdough bread they want you to eat first to fill you up. Kind of a spur of the moment thing we decided to hit Woodfire. I had been there a few times over the years and figured it would be decent enough. First off it was very busy, which I figured was good. The hostess did a great job of estimating the amount of time we would need to wait ( 15 minutes ). We took a walk, came back in, and we were seated. That was great. Upon sitting down we took a look at the menu - much more expensive than I remembered. I thought that I remembered that this was kind of a casual, moderately priced enterprise - not their fault that I had the wrong idea. So what the heck - you don't go out to dinner to save money... So after a strangely long wait our waitress showed. She seemed pre-occupied and unhappy. She threw out some faux charm and took our drink order. That was fine. After another strangely long wait she showed up with drinks. Fair enough. We figured we had better order before she disappeared again. We ordered the Ribeye steak and Prime Rib, plus salads - note that the salad is not included in the already inflated price for your dinner - the waitress was very quick to emphatically point that out - which was weird. I guess I must have looked indigent tonight and she wanted to make sure I could afford it... She wasn't sure what WAS included side dish-wise, but knew it was something. She also never brought any basket of bread - which everyone else all around us got , of course. We figured what the heck, we don't need bread anyway ( we could have asked of course, but this waitress was very hard to pin down so we just forgot about it ). So, after another strangely long wait the salads showed up. Mine was a basic icerberg wedge type of thing. My wife had a caeser salad. The iceberg wedge consisted of 2 tiny little tomatoes, a small stack of borderline wilted lettuce, copious amounts of bleu cheese ( which was good ), and some extremely lame oil/vinegar or bottled Italian dressing thing. My wife's Caeser showed up sans any dressing - which is kind of important on a caeser salad. No biggie we figured - we would ask for it when the waitress came by again. The waitress ran by 2 or 3 times and ignored some friendly waves, "excuse me"s, etc. Then she disappeared again. I asked a nice bus person if there was supposed to be dressing on the salad and she came right over, took it into the kitchen and emerged 30 seconds later with a brand new, correctly made salad. That was great - we tipped her for her efforts... That salad was great in the end by the way. The iceberg wedge was more befitting of a high school cafeteria salad bar than an al la carte menu item for $7 or $8. So then the dinners came. The Prime Rib was cooked correctly - a solid medium. It was seasoned OK, but blandly. The nominal 12 oz portion was about 50% gristle and fat. Oh well... It came with some pan drippings - the drippings were not an ingredient in a proper au jus - they seemed to be straight out of the bottom of the pan. All in all very oddly mediocre at best. At something like $40.00 I was expecting bigger and better things. The baked potato was very good, and the green vegetable was OK ( some kind of pees in a pod ). The steak was a different story altogether. It was ordered medium rare. It showed up looking OK. but a little more done than medium rare. Alright - that happens... When my wife cut into it she saw a 1/8" layer of solid well done surrounding a completely uncooked interior - a truly ruined steak in the way that your drunk brother-in-law would ruin one at a family barbecue. Figuring the center could be saved she decided to send it back, After another strangely long wait the wayward waitress showed up and we got her to take the steak back to get the inside cooked a little. That whole episode took 15 minutes. It eventually came back with new vegetables and a new potato. That was a nice touch. The steak, however was even more ruined now. I was hoping that they would have just made another one. A first class outfit would do that - but they didn't. Fair enough... Well, in the end the steak was inedible. Not only had it been destroyed by the chef, it was a stringy, discolored strange pile of foul tasting, rubbery meat substance that seems like it had to have been mishandled somewhere along the line - frozen or something ( I don't know this of course). Just amazingly bad. We brought the entire thing home to feed to the neighborhood dog - maybe he will write a positive Yelp review... For the record my wife had a glass of wine which she says was OK ( and was never asked if she wanted another one by the "waitress" ). I had some of their draft root beer - which was extremely good... So - in the end I must honestly warn everybody off of the Wooodfire. it is a nice location to be sure, but it was terrible compared to similarly priced places in Seattle, Bellingham, etc. Expensive, poor to moderate quality food, and poor service. read more

I have been here before last time was a good experience. This time it was not. I'd give a 2.5 star rating. Restaurant wasn't too busy went in at 7pm on Sunday. Boyfriend called ahead asking if they had mashed potatoes they said no. Not a big deal. Went to the restaurant it was not that busy. Server came ordered no ice in drink. Got ice. No big deal. Ordered bay shrimp cocktail and two sirloin steaks, with surprise mashed potatoes. Told waitress about the mix up she was surprised. I was given an old menu so shared with bf. Again no big deal. Got our shrimp, it was frozen. Biting into the shrimp it was like a shrimp slushee. Gross. Steaks came over 30min wait for two steaks medium. Steaks were on the cooler site and at best medium rare. And we got baked potatoes sent to us not mashed. I formed our server no sorry was said just a heavy sigh and a minute later mashed potatoes. Everything tasted bland. The meat had no flavor. Disappointed because it seems like a decent place and good atmosphere as long as your not next to window getting direct glare where you have to squint the entire time. We finally returned to Woodfire about a year later as we tend to visit Woodfire during the winter months and the service this time was much improved. Our waitress was super friendly, prompt and responsive to orders and requests unlike the previous visit. She came to the table shortly after we sat down and was careful in delivering the food to the table and assisting us in deciding what to order by providing her recommendations or ideas on good options. The food also was better and the cheese pizza did not smell like bacon. Overall, it was a good experience for a family dinner! read more

My wife and I went because we had been there before and enjoyed their food. Not so this time. I ordered fish and chips and we ordered focaccia bread with our meal. On the menu the fish said it was tempura style. I got the meal, the fish was breaded and the bread simply wasnt focaccia bread, not even close. It was ok to eat so we did, not wanting to complain. When it came time to pay I mentioned these errors to the waitress who told me the fish was tempura and it was focaccia bread. I let it go. Last night we had the kind of service that ensures we will never go back. Short waiting list, yet they called a couple to sit who came in after us. Then after waiting 30 minutes to get our drinks, it was another 40 before our food arrived. We saw other servers serving customers that came in way later than us. The server asked if I needed anything else -- I asked for vinegar for the fish and chips -- it never came, then took forever for check. The food was average or worse not worth at all the inflated prices they charge. It was a shame to have such a terrible dinner experience because we wanted to like the place since the location is really nice and I thought Anthonys had a reputation for better quality. With so many other great restaurants out there who really do pay attention to service there is no reason to go back there. read more

Very disappointing. We've been long-time residents and have frequented for many years. This last trip we noticed a big decline in menu choices, and much smaller portions - which wouldn't be a bad thing if the prices had dropped as well. Took an hour to get our entree. Best happy hour. Loved the Ruby Red vodka with tonic...very refreshing. The garlic cheese and French bread YUM. HUGE shrimp cocktails. Chicken wings are good but so spicy HOT you must have beer! Service was great and loved our waiters personality..very funny kid. read more

I have eaten at Anthony's Woodfire Grill on several occasions. Twice for dinner, and the rest for happy hour. Happy hour is a good time after work, with drink specials and decent appetizers. My first experience for dinner I ordered bbq oysters, which are now not on the menu, and I can see why. They were overcooked and of poor quality. However, my second dinner experience was a disaster. One of our dinner party was not pleased, and the manager agreed to not charge for that dish, and bring everyone an appetizer. We were thinking that this was great service to offer 8 free appetizers. So five or six of the eight of us ordered appetizers, since they were free. However, when the bill came, only two of them were not billed for. This created another issue, as now the manager was not following what he said. It was such a mess by the end of dinner that everyone involved decided not to come back. Do yourself a favor and go to Anthony's Homeport next door if you are seeking a quality dinner experience. If you want a fun happy hour with friends, oyster shooters, and so so appetizers, Anthony's Woodfire Grill can at least offer that one experience. read more

My review is for the large party/banquet reservation type service. Rebecca, the banquet manager, is FABULOUS! She was so incredibly helpful when I was planning my 30th Birthday that I held back in April of this year. I wanted to take 30 of my most important people-family & friends, including several children under 10, out to celebrate my birthday. My mom had held my 18th down at the HomePort in Edmonds for about 50-75 people-they charged a deposit, they wanted menu choices ahead of time, there was a minimum fee, etc etc. I am so glad I did not have to deal with all that for my planning. The WoodFire made up special menu's for everyone to order off of, drinks were quickly served, we brought our own desserts & they served those (I gave the remainder to the staff/kitchen for doing such an excellent job). Rebecca answered every email, every call & was so genuinely nice & kept checking in during the party-she helped make that night go by so smoothly! I wish I had had her to plan my wedding ;). Food was excellent-one plate sent back for a little more heat on a steak-came back w/in 5 min's. Total bill (not including alcohol) was under $700-the 18% automatic gratuity was only $90-for 2 servers for 3 hours-so I added another $110 on top of the bill :) I have servers & bartenders in the family & my husband is lead cook at another high end restaurant-so tips are handed out generously in our family (for good service). I will definitely go back especially if I have another function-big thanks to the staff, the kitchen & Rebecca for making my 30th so fun :) read more

Thursday night, it was busy, we sat in bar. Slow non-attentive service. Wife ordered the Flank Steak dinner $20. She liked it. Small portion. I ordered Cod Fish n Chips $20, fish was good but not impressive, it was like they picked 4 small pieces from a Gortons Fisherman frozen box. They did not state hand dipped or anything so maybe thats what it was. But i grew up with single mom so i ate a lot of boxed frozen throw in the oven food. The place looks casual fancy but food in my eyes is from Dennys and over priced at that for Dennys type food! I would give 2.5 stars honestly. If i was at Dennys and we ate this meal i would give 4.5 stars. read more

My wife and 3.5 year old daughter called for a 7pm reservation last night, Friday, around 6 w/ no problem. we showed up about 15 minutes early, the restaurant was pretty busy but we were seated in about 5 minutes. they were very accommodating right away with a booster seat for my kid & The bus dude asked right off if we wanted sippy cup for her. The waiter was there in about 5 minutes and we were already to order. He put in our app and pizza order right away. my wife asked to change the type of prawns her steak came with and the waiter said he'd check w/ the chef who did not mind at all. we both order steaks, midrare & medium. our app and daughters pizza came in about 10 minutes followed by our soup and salad. our entres came within 5-10 after we finished. Our steaks were cooked pretty much spot on maybe a tad under but not at all unacceptable. we both thought the green beens were a tad under seasoned but we had s/p on the table so no fuss. Even with a fairly busy restaurant they gave us all the time we wanted, checking with us often. When they came to clear our plates my wife mistook the bus boy for the waiter and asked about desert which he didnt even hesitate to grab us a menu. We got the creme Brule to split and a kids sunday. Our bill was $81. Based on what we felt was over all an excellent meal, we left a $19 tip which to be honest I am not sure if that is good or bad but is all I could really afford. the food was great and the staff was just as great. I've been going here off and on for a number of years, but historically, it just hasn't been that memorable. Bt Ive gone a couple of times recently and something has really changed. For one, I'm pretty sure our waitress was a ninja. She was invisible until we needed something and she'd sneak right up on us. There'd she be, smiling with whatever we needed - I'm certain she was wine psychic! Also, the food is much better these days and they're crab encrusted steak was so good I thought I was going to have to stab my sons hand with my fork. I have been here numerous times now over the years and overall I think this is a nice place. It's a beautiful location right on the water which makes for great ambience. On a weekend it is best to have reservations or you will be waiting a while. It is expensive but that's to be expected, as it is a seafood restaurant on the water. The food is good. Although I like the tomato soup, salad, taco combination (and the Italian sausage pizza with smoky flavor) they have in happy hour, I am not planning on going back there. I was between 2 and 3 stars on this one. The good news, their happy hour goes until close when you want something quick good and affordable. The bad news, not quick. Not even close to timely. We stopped in one night after seeing my husband who was hospitalized up the street. It was later, there were only a few tables and we were sat in the lounge/bar area. We ordered a couple appetizers, a salad and the seafood mac & cheese to share. We were hoping to have dessert, but it took so long to get our food, we didn't bother. We were in there for 90 minutes when I finally started strolling around to find the server, to get our check. I never did find her as in she was nowhere to be found, so I asked a busser to go look. I know servers will frequently "course the meal" so you're can take your time, but I specifically asked to not hold the ticket. Evidently there was a mixup where another server took our salads and various other things but it all took soooooo long and there was only a handful of diners in there. The food was good with the exception of the mac and cheese. Not a lot of flavor and just ok. The server was kind, sweet, but not attentive by any means. We were expecting an experience closer to the Anthony's in Anacortes and this was not it. Maybe because it was past dinnertime and a couple hours from closing... perhaps a lighter staff.... I'd go again, I'd just change my expectation. read more

Where do I even begin... Came here on a Friday night and it was busy, which I expected. Sat in the bar for happy hour. Service was very slow, drinks and food took a while, but I let it slide because it was a Friday night. My husband and I decided we should come back on a week night and give it another try. Well.... Tonight, a Monday night might I add, my sisters and I decided to have a girls night out and came to woodfire. We found ourselves a table in the bar and were promptly greeted which was nice. We ordered our drinks and they arrived in a prompt manner. We then placed our food order and got back to chatting. Drinks were getting low and we were thirsty for another round. Our server asked us if we would like another cocktail and we said yes. 25 minutes later, no joke, we actually timed it, we still didn't have our drinks. Our server apologized for the wait but it still took another 5 or 10 minutes to get our drinks. I don't think the server rang in our drinks when we ordered them, we heard the bar muddling our drinks after we waited the 25 minutes. Again, it's Monday night, there were about 6 tables in the bar and 1 person at the rail. The bartender could have easily came out and helped out her fellow employee, but did not. Drinks came and we then asked for a dessert menu, which never showed up. We asked another cocktailer for a dessert menu. She promptly brought it over and could tell we were irritated. We hate complaining, we aren't those people, but it was just unacceptable. The other server told the manager that we waited 25 minutes for our drinks and she came to our table and apologized for the wait, stating that our server was new. She took care of the round of drinks that took 25 minutes and also bought us dessert, which was very considerate. Our server was very sweet and apologetic but it is still hard to let it slide. We decided to give woodfire another chance and unfortunately it will probably be our last. Be prepared to spend at least 2 hours for your dining experience if dining in the bar. Don't expect quick, attentive service. Food and drinks are good, but are they worth the long wait? read more

Last night Anthony's Homeport tonight the Woodfire Grill. The Woodfire Grill Sunset Dinner was disappointing in comparison. (1) Shrimp Cocktail: more lettuce and celery than shrimp, (2) Caesar salad: bacon bits under less than crisp lettuce, (3) Entre: Garlic shrimp and potatoes we're floating in oil and the snap peas were oily, lacking in flavor and seriously undercooked, Dessert: mostly whipped cream. The absolute worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant! The staff was horrible! The food was in no way up to standards, baked potatoes were old, hard & cold. We got one serving of bread for a table of 7, our waiter was more concerned with doing his side work, cleaning, & entertaining his co workers. The cook was yelling, cursing and throwing a fit over cooking our shrimp - we did not get what we ordered- barbecue shrimp- our steaks literally tasted old like they had been reheated. My filet was not a filet but a tough piece of meat cut in a circle. It took An hour and a half to get our food - and even though the steak was removed from our bill and we were comped free desert, there was nothing that could rectify the service and experience we rec'd!! If a restaurant states they serve till 10 they need to serve till 10 as though those customers are the first of the day. Unacceptable behavior behind the line where everyone could hear, the sou chef literally grooming her hair where the food is prepared, having to ask for more water..... I will never go back to this restaurant again!!!! read more
