There was a party happening. We had the choice of the bar or a small table squished in between the party and another table. A lady told us to take a side of her table. We got the menu very quickly. We were asked very quickly if we know what we are getting. Twice in a small amount of time, my partner knew he was getting the meatballs so we started with that. I was happy to learn that you can make any pizza or pasta gluten free. We got the meatballs comes with ricotta cheese and focaccia. Its a nice bite to share comes with three meatballs $17. I've ordered here a couple of times and here's my take. Crust - while it is a bit thicker than I normally like for a thin crust pizza, it's very good and soft. Sauce - middle of the road, not bad but not overly notable. Toppings - again middle of the road. If I were them I'd spread things out a bit more so you don't have just one bite of each topping on each slice. Size - a little on the smaller side compared to other places I like. Price - fair. I also would not recommend the ceasar salad as it is overpriced for what you get with nothing notable. So, not my favourite in Ottawa but maybe in the top 5. read more

If you like burned pizza you'll love this place. Otherwise skip. The bottom of the pizza was almost completely black. I know this is not a mistake because: this is the second time I ordered here and first time was the same and looking at other people eating the pizza it seems burned as well. I don't know wether the cook thinks that there is some additional "flavour" to be gotten from burning food. In my opinion it is absolutely inexcusable. We enjoyed our dinner here. We were pointed to it by a foodie friend, who said it was authentic Italian pizza. The pizza was very good. Not the best in Ottawa, but worth trying. The décor was fine as well. We were sitting at the bar and had a great view of the kitchen, which was kind of fun. This place could potentially be a 4, but the staff all looked unhappy and service was mediocre. So Anthony's was a revelation on several fronts - it's the best pizza in Ottawa that I have tasted and I would argue among the best pizza places in Canada (I've been to the best in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver); each has its place in the pizza world, but Anthony's is excellent, and not pretentious about it. It's not quite the gummy Neapolitan pizza dough- it's crustier and thinner- but the toppings are bloody delicious. Olives, goat cheese and onions is a unique and not-rote compliment to a pie, the margarita was simple and balanced, and while the carbonara pizza was a bit drier than I would have liked it to be, it had the flavor and textures down perfectly and was pretty damn good too. Rustic and delicious. It is not cheap, but in my mind (and I've lived in Italy too so I'm a discerning pizza snob) the pizza here is really tops. read more

I'm a pizza lover - one of all kinds! I love a greasy, thick crust pizza from a local joint (or as I like to call it - grease wheel), but my absolute favourite is a thin crust with a great sauce and not too much cheese. Anthony's hit this on the head. I ordered a margherita pizza which was perfect. I've never been to Italy, but I went with someone who has, and they remarked this is the closest they've had to pizza from Italia itself! The wood-burning over is a nice touch as well. Be warned - the bottom might look a little darker than you're used to since it's from a wood-burning oven, but I promise it doesn't detract from the taste. You probably can't get better than that. Especially not with the super-friendly service and great location. This might be one of my favourite pizza places in town. read more

A group of 8 of us met up for dinner for the yelp pizza crew. We must have cannibalized 1/5th of the place, it's quite small inside, not many tables. The decor is quite nice and you can see the guys slaving away in front of the wood fire oven just behind the bar. From looking at some of the other reviews it appears their sauce is dynamite, I wouldn't know. I can't eat tomatoes. I went with the Canadian, although it has a slightly different name here, without the sauce. It was fantastic. The toppings were fresh and the crust was this nice light fluffy crust that didn't leave me feeling like I was in my third trimester when I left. A good amount of cheese, no grease here. There was also minimal black char that can go either way when you're dealing with a wood fire oven. As to the service, it was glacier slow. It was like 2hrs 45mins or so for us to get out of there. Even though this is a small place, they seemed under staffed. They had two guys slaving away in the kitchen and only one poor lass doing the rest. She was the only server and she was manning the bar as well. We called ahead and they knew we were coming so I'm not sure what's up. They definitely could have used another server. Everything took forever. Getting the bills at the end took ages as well. She had little more than an abacus. All the bills were hand written and tabulated, she had to whip up 8 separate ones for our table, it took forever. I get they don't want to shell out serious coin on a pos system for such a small place but there has to be a better method than this, it's way too slow when the place is busy. I went here recently with my husband and some fellow Yelpers. We were a group of 8 and there around dinner time. Overall, the food was great but service was slow as molasses. We all had pizzas. The pizzas here are Neapolitan style, so the crust is thin and blistery as it's cooked in a wood burning oven, and there's not a lot of cheese on it. I personally love Neapolitan style pizza, as opposed to the thick, greasy, and cheese laden pizza that is so ubiquitous in Ottawa. I had the Capricciosa Pizza ($17) which had tomato sauce, Italian ham, mushrooms, artichokes and mozzarella cheese. The pizzas are a little bigger than a standard dinner plate. My pizza was delicious. The ham was sliced really thin, just the way I like it, and the artichokes were so soft and creamy tasting. I would order this pizza again. My husband had the Contadina ($16) which had tomato sauce, sausage, ricotta cheese, fresh tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese. I had a taste of his pizza and I was surprised that it was slightly spicy. Not overly hot, but a nice little kick of spice. I found his pizza a little too greasy (due to the sausage no doubt) and I much preferred my own pizza. Everyone else at the table seemed to enjoy their pizza. We also had some appetizers to share (thanks Andrea B.). We had the Sausage Appetizer (sliced sausage in tomato sauce) and the Tapas Board (fresh mozzarella, parmesan, salami, prosciutto, eggplant, roasted red peppers and olives). The Sausage Appetizer was too greasy for my liking, but did have a nice smoky flavour to it. The tomato sauce was very full-bodied and rich tasting. The Tapas Board was good, but I feel that the main attraction here is pizza, not appetizers. There was only 1 server serving the entire restaurant. Yes, the restaurant is small, but I do think they need more than 1 server. We had to wait a really long time for anything. The server was pleasant, but wasn't as attentive as I think a server should be. She never came around to refill waters, and I had to ask for a second glass of water. Washrooms are clean. The first thing you notice when you step into this restaurant is just how small it is. There are around 10 tables inside and a couple outside so making a reservation, whether you are 2 people or 10 people, is highly recommended. We had a reservation for our group of 8 so we were fortunate that we didn't have to wait to be seated, however I noticed a few other patrons waited about 10 minutes or so for another table to open up. Our server was friendly, however everything seemed to take forever. Our drinks took 5-10 mins, food was around 45 mins, and our bills were another 10-15 mins. That being said, there was only one server taking care of the whole restaurant and pouring the drinks as well. Despite the long wait, the food was delicious. I ordered the Primavera pizza which came out perfect. (Note: all pizzas are only available in one size which is equivalent to a medium most places) They use a wood burning oven to cook their pizzas so it's easy to burn the crust, however that was not the case here. The toppings were fresh and full of flavor and the sauce was light, not over powering the pizza. Overall a great place to grab pizza if you prefer a light, authentic tasting pizza that leaves you perfectly satisfied, yet doesn't make you feel like you swallowed a tank. So, I will start by saying we ordered 3 different types of pasta and not the pizza, which based on previous reviews should be good. I will start with the service, we walked and there was just one more couple there, which already had their food so its not that the waiter was extremely busy and there is no excuse for his attitude. I asked what tap beers do they serve and he said is so low and fast I asked again..same result..asked for the third time..guess what even faster and unclear. I just told me to bring me any beer since I had no idea what he was saying. The pasts were ok, not amazing and for the price, we paid I had much better, nothing special about the sauce. Been many times to Anthony's on Wellington to have authentic Italian pizza. This time, once again, the pizza did not disappoint. Excellent crust - nice and crispy on outside, soft chewy inside. Great toppings, authentic flavours just like in Italy (a rarity in Ottawa). Anthony's Chop Salad also excellent. Very large portion, can easily share between 2-3 people. This is a true typical salad like you would get in an Italian restaurant. Simple flavourful dressing - no gloopy white ingredients, no garlic, no sugar added. Basic olive oil, wine vinegar and some subtle herbs. If I had to rate just based on food, it would be 5-stars. Unfortunately, this is where the positives end. If I had to rate just based on non-food criteria, it would be a 1-star!! Wait staff was fine (though they do seem extremely disinterested... especially the male waiter). The problem here is there are not enough of them. It was a Saturday night. The restaurant was full. With just 2 waiters, this meant waiting to be asked if we wanted drinks, waiting to have our order taken, waiting for our salads, then waiting a really long time for our pizzas. Gave up waiting to pay for our bill. Just dropped cash on table and left. If that wasn't bad enough, the female wait staff disappeared by 9pm and a restaurant at full capacity (likely 30-40 people seated) was now relying on one poor soul for service. The other negative we experienced was the restaurant was excessively hot. There were people fanning themselves it was so hot in there. Not enjoyable having dinner with sweat pouring down your face or sides. I overheard someone at table next to us say "I have to step outside, I'm dying of heat in here". Odd thing, it was not a very hot day.. Temperature outside was barely 20-21C by dinner time. Clearly, the thermostat temp is set too high. Accoustics also very bad when restaurant is full. Don't expect to have a conversation without using your yelling-voice. read more

Have been twice, once for take out and once eat in. The pizzas are very good, just like you would get in Italy. The ambiance is nothing special, feels like a cafeteria, it could use a freshening up. I wouldn't recommend take out. The pizzas are the best when they fresh out of the oven and when you do take out they are no where near as good by the time you get them home and eat. Having recently visited Italy and loving the pizza there...I decided to visit this place because their pizza is supposed to be closest thing. The pizza here is Napoletana (Naples) style pizza, soft, thin, chewy, wood fired crust. I found the sauce to be quite good, flavourful and fresh -pomodoro style, I believe. The cheese was pretty standard restaurant quality so it was fine. I just found the crust to have too much of a grainy flavour for me, similar to getting a pizza on a whole wheat crust. So, because of that I just couldn't get into the pizza as much as I would have liked to. Still It's solid pizza and a nice change if you are looking for a break from the typical pizzas here in Ottawa. I wouldn't say it is a must try though. 3.5 stars. Update: Went back a second time and had the Pizza Diavolo. Found it was much better this time especially the crust. Solid 4 Stars. read more

Hard for me to give only one star as the pizza was pretty good. Our server, Rich, couldn't have been less welcoming, more disinterested, aloof or inattentive. Could be a millennial hipster thing, but gimme a frigging break, you're a flippin' pizza joint. Walked in at 4:30 to an empty, and I mean not another soul, restaurant and was curtly asked if I had a reservation rather then a hello or good afternoon. We asked if we needed one to which the response was, "we're completely booked at 6:30 tonight." Ok, great! How f'ing long does it take to serve two people pizza at 4:30 in an empty restaurant? As we sat down we were again warned we would have to be gone by 6. Frankly, is it more important to turn away potentially $100 in business to make sure a reservation at A PIZZA JOINT doesn't wait an extra 5 minutes. Get over yourself. BTW we were gone long before 6! The Wellington location a pale imitation of the Bank Street pizzeria. Loud dance music, drunken patrons, heat from the oven and inattentive waiters (who you can't talk to below shouting volume) are problematic in the Wellington location It may have impacted my previously stellar review of the food. While it's essentially the same food and menu, the ambiance and general impression of the restaurant leaves a bad aftertaste in this location. I can't come back to this location and I hope the Bank Street location never approaches this level of awful. read more

This is hands down the best pizzeria in OTTAWA! the combination of the dough, the amazing tomato sauce and the mozzarella, all cooked in the splendid wood burning oven, makes this the closest authentic Neapolitan pizza in have ever had in Ottawa and surroundings. To be very honest I yet have to find a better one even in Montréal and the upper NY state. I usually take the simple Margherita that I always use as the reference for any pizzeria. Well the implementation here is just perfect. Cookes just like in the old country and served in the classic pizza dishes. At Anthony's not only the pizzas are extremely good. In fact I love the Anthony's salads too! Amazing! If you want to enjoy a nice fizzy S Pellegrino water or a smooth Italian beer.. No problem. They have it! 5 well deserved stars to Anthony's pizzeria on wellington. read more

I think this is my favourite pizza spot in Ottawa, though granted I haven't been to many. Their pizza is so delicious and they have a lot of great options on the menu. The crust has a really great open hole structure, not thin but not thick. It's definitely not the greasy late-night-pizza-joint type pizza. I recommend the super pizza (which has sausage and ricotta on it). The pizzas are about $15-20. Totally worth it! The decor is casual but modern, nothing too fancy. Anthony's replaced the pawn shop in our neighbourhood. thanks Tony! I have been many times and so am recognized by the great serving staff who know my personal preferences now. Great pizza - the crust is gorgeous. Fresh out of the wood burning oven - made even more delectable with some chili oil. They are very flexible on personal requests. My favorite Anthony's story......one night I was heading home and didn't have time to stop and get a bun for the sausage I was cooking for dinner on the bbq. It was late - so I popped into Anthony's to buy one as they are just around the corner. Of course I was not charged -- and Tony's reply: "My kitchen is your kitchen." Now THAT is great service to accompany the delicious food. My only request now - which he tells me he is working on - is that he put Carbonara on the menu. Based on his other results -- I bet it will be some of the best in the city. read more

Solid four stars, Anthony's. I came here as part of the Yelp Ottawa Pizza Committee, with about seven other lovely people. Now, I am not a big pizza fan (well to clarify, I'm not a big fan of tomato sauce on pizza, which is unfortunately most pizza). I am, however, exploring the Ottawan horizon to see if there are any pizza places in town that serve pizza I actually like. My pizza this time was the Gianni - in the menu under white pizza - with mozzarella, fior di latte, hot salami, ricotta, and olive oil. For the record, the crust is one of the best thin crusts I've had to date. Wood-fired, but not too floppy nor too crispy. I bit into the salami first, which I forgot was hot, so that was a surprise. I wasn't feeling like a spicy pizza today (or usually ever), but I ordered it, so I had noone to blame by myself. Then an interesting thing happened... I bit into the cheeses - and wait, did that just taste amazingly good with the hot salami still tingling in my mouth? A little on the sweeter/creamier side - the cheeses, but hey, it totally worked! Bonus star for turning my opinion around mid-bite! Now if only the water top-up service could have kept up with the fire-extinguishing that needed to be done in my mouth after that much hot salami... Service-wise, it was definitely on the slow side. As slow as to be expected with one server for about ten or so tables. Busy for a Wednesday, and busier still that we were there, I'm sure. But I empathize, and I guess it helps that the pizza is as good as they say it is. So to answer my hypothetical question as to whether there are any pizza places in town that I actually like - here's one. Will be dragging some friends here in the future, I'm sure! read more

Finally got a chance to go to Anthony's and I am glad I managed to go. I was super impressed with the service right from the start. They had a group coming in for an hour after we arrived but they accommodated us as. The waitresses were really friendly and prompt. I had a four seasons pizza that was very good, although it was odd that each quarter had a different topping. The only drawback was that I found that the crust was a bit tough and the sauce was a tad bland, but the toppings were really fresh tasting. Oh and they have an awesome spicy olive oil that I recommend. Overall I really like the place, however in my mind they have a bit of work to do to knock off Tennesy Willems as the best pizza in Hintonburg when just judging on pie quality. The varieties on offer are not as exciting, but the prices are reasonable, they have beer (Moretti & Cracked Canoe on draught) the service is great and the decor is not bad. i ordered the appetizer meatballs and a margherita pizza. First, the bad news. The meatballs order came with agenerous helping of meatballs, but they were utterly tasteless. So under-seasoned as to make one wonder if any salt had been added to the ingredients! Word to the wise: give the meatballs and (likely) the spaghetti and meatballs a wide berth. The pizza was much better, albeit slightly under-seasoned. If I were to guess, what seasoning was present may have come from the parmesan on top of a pizza oven-fired crust and (again) an under-seasoned pizza sauce, with olive oil, very fresh basil (bravo!) and a pleasantly fresh fior di latte with just the right amount of lactose sweetness. However, while most margherita in Canada is made with tomato sauce, I prefer chunky bits of fresh tomato, instead, to go with the margherita's basil, olive oil and fior di latte or (better yet) buffalo mozzarella. The crust was nice and light, but -- again! -- under-seasoned. And I found myself wondering how fresh was the bag of flour used as it tasted as though it could be on the verge of stale. Not bad . . . for Ottawa, but I think I will stick with margherita made at home albeit without a pizza oven! ;-) read more

I tried this with my boyfriend this weekend. Neither of us ordered pizza (which I regret). He ordered the super calzone and I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. The spaghetti was fine although I found the portion to be really skimpy. There was enough sauce and meatballs but not enough noodles. There was too much sauce in fact. Extra noodles would have balanced it out, cost them very little extra, and made me feel like I was getting my money's worth. The calzone was gigantic (big enough for two people, fyi) but it was odd. There wasn't much, or any, pizza sauce in it and the contents (fairly delicate in flavour) were just overwhelmed by the huge amount of crust. The crust was very delicious. I also found the prices to be a bit high. The reason we didn't get the pizza was that the waitress said they were personal pizza size and at 16-19$/each we didn't want to get two. However when we did see the pizzas they are pretty big, enough for two people so I wish we had just done that. read more

I have ordered take out pizza from Anthony's a couple of times in the past and was fairly impressed by the quality of the product. Last night me and my husband finally went to Anthony's to eat in because I felt like trying something other than pizza. We had their Spagetti and Meatballs and a Margarita Pizza. As usual, the pizza was very good. What I really like about the pizza here is the simplicity. Simple tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and basil and the crust is pretty much perfect. The crust is light yet chewy. The spagetti and meatballs exceeded my expectations. The spagetti itself was only ok, but the sauce and meatballs were very good. The meatballs were quite dense and you could tell it was little other than meat (no filler) in them. The sauce was deliciously rich and slightly garlicky. I would suggest getting this as an appetizer without the pasta. The restaurant has a nice relaxed vibe and the service was great. read more

Heard so much about this place the photos made me drool. Finally visited for the first time. Wanted to love it but couldn't. Although the crust and ingredients were fresh, it was lacking big time in seasoning, flavour, maybe salt? I'm not someone who uses a lot of salt in my cooking so for me to say that it needed it demonstrates that something was lacking. The pizza was bland. My gluten free crust, for which i was charged an extra $4, was burnt and tasted like cardboard. The toppings were meagre and tasted like they came from a jar (the eggplant and red pepper).
