Burrata pizza

I was excited to try this place, with a great location in the heart of Hintonburg. Unfortunately the pizza was not very good, it was pretty burnt and far too crunchy. I think maybe it was an off day? I would still consider returning and giving a second chance.

A group of 8 of us met up for dinner for the yelp pizza crew. We must have cannibalized 1/5th of the place, it's quite small inside, not many tables. The decor is quite nice and you can see the guys slaving away in front of the wood fire oven just behind the bar. From looking at some of the other reviews it appears their sauce is dynamite, I wouldn't know. I can't eat tomatoes. I went with the Canadian, although it has a slightly different name here, without the sauce. It was fantastic. The toppings were fresh and the crust was this nice light fluffy crust that didn't leave me feeling like I was in my third trimester when I left. A good amount of cheese, no grease here. There was also minimal black char that can go either way when you're dealing with a wood fire oven. As to the service, it was glacier slow. It was like 2hrs 45mins or so for us to get out of there. Even though this is a small place, they seemed under staffed. They had two guys slaving away in the kitchen and only one poor lass doing the rest. She was the only server and she was manning the bar as well. We called ahead and they knew we were coming so I'm not sure what's up. They definitely could have used another server. Everything took forever. Getting the bills at the end took ages as well. She had little more than an abacus. All the bills were hand written and tabulated, she had to whip up 8 separate ones for our table, it took forever. I get they don't want to shell out serious coin on a pos system for such a small place but there has to be a better method than this, it's way too slow when the place is busy. Anyway I'd def hit up Anthonys again, for wood fire pizza it's one of the best I've had in the city. tl;dr 5 star food with 3 star service

The first thing you notice when you step into this restaurant is just how small it is. There are around 10 tables inside and a couple outside so making a reservation, whether you are 2 people or 10 people, is highly recommended. We had a reservation for our group of 8 so we were fortunate that we didn't have to wait to be seated, however I noticed a few other patrons waited about 10 minutes or so for another table to open up. Our server was friendly, however everything seemed to take forever. Our drinks took 5-10 mins, food was around 45 mins, and our bills were another 10-15 mins. That being said, there was only one server taking care of the whole restaurant and pouring the drinks as well. Despite the long wait, the food was delicious. I ordered the Primavera pizza which came out perfect. (Note: all pizzas are only available in one size which is equivalent to a medium most places) They use a wood burning oven to cook their pizzas so it's easy to burn the crust, however that was not the case here. The toppings were fresh and full of flavor and the sauce was light, not over powering the pizza. Overall a great place to grab pizza if you prefer a light, authentic tasting pizza that leaves you perfectly satisfied, yet doesn't make you feel like you swallowed a tank. If you are in the mood for something other than pizza they offer a few pasta dishes which looked amazing as well.

$13 Caesar salad, some romaine and handful of croutons, not really worth it.

Meat balls (appetizer) were dry, bread was good, pizza was amazing. Very friendly staff, best thin crust pizza I ever had.

Pizza Nerds - Bank - Mushroom Pizza

Pizza Nerds

I've been meaning to try this place for soo long and I finally did! And I wish I had tried it…read moresooner. It might actually be one of my favourite pizzas in the city! The restaurant is cuter inside than I thought. There are some window seats for people-watching on bank st. There are also some hanging lights by the windows. The pizza crust has the perfect crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside texture. It's so good it doesn't even need any dip. I tried both the nerd pizza and the mushroom pizza. The nerd pizza had pickled onions, black pepper molasses bacon, cheese and chili Basil honey. I loved the tangy pickled onions, with the salty-sweet bacon, and the spicy honey. The combination was just perfection. I could use a little more chili though! The mushroom pizza was a white pizza with portobello mushrooms, parm, and truffle oil. The salty parm and the meaty portebello mushrooms were a good combo, but I didn't really taste any truffle oil. I felt like this pizza was good but missing a little something to take it to the next level. Overall, the food was delicious. The drinks are reasonably priced (beer, local kombucha). However, the service was mediocre. I think they only had one or two servers working the entire area on Friday night.

Ordered 2 of their rotating menu pizzas tonight and was not disappointed. I'm not the type to…read moredeviate from my usual order once I find something I like, but I'm glad I did. The pizzas were light, airy and packed a lot of flavour into each bite. Super full now and I regret nothing

Georgie's Pizza - What's left of a large cheese pizza.

I live really close by but for some reason have never tried Georgie's until recently. I got some…read moretakeout for my husband and I to share. I got a Hot Turkey sandwich platter $13.75 and a slice of Donair pizza $4. They sell pizzas by the slice, but they are not displayed so you have to ask them what kinds they have. The day I went, if I remember correctly, they had 4 types: Cheese, Pepperoni, Bacon and Donair. Slices are $4 each or $5 with a can of pop. 2 slices is $8 or $9 with a can of pop, so no discount if you buy more. However, they do have a pickup discount, which is the equivalent amount to the taxes you would pay. So essentially if you pick up, they pay the tax :) The Hot Turkey sandwich platter was really good. It came with fries and coleslaw. I liked that the coleslaw was vinegar based and not mayo based. It was mostly cabbage with a bit of carrot. I enjoyed it. The fries were just regular fries but they were crispy and good. The sandwich had real turkey breast meat in it (can you believe that I once ordered a hot turkey sandwich and it was a deli meat turkey sandwich covered in gravy?!? Obviously not at this restaurant, lol). The bread was the regular white sandwich bread, but what really set this sandwich apart was the delicious peppery gravy. Man, that stuff is really good! The pizza was good too. They put toppings under the cheese here, which is not my preference, but I still enjoyed it. The donair was thick pieces and tasted more like sausage, but it was still good. The sauce has a distinct flavour to it, which I can't pinpoint, but I liked it. The crust was crispy and even though the crust was thicker than I usually like, I still enjoyed it. I liked that the slice came in a cute cardboard box. The platter came in an aluminum container, but the lid was styrofoam. I'm not a fan of styrofoam, I would have preferred a foil-backed cardboard lid. Service was friendly and I got my food pretty quickly. The restaurant is a strip of businesses along Carling Ave just west of Churchill Ave N. There's free parking at the back of the strip. There's a sign and you have to turn in before you actually see the strip of businesses (Georgie's, Sapporo Sushi, and a few other businesses). If you turn into the parking lot after the strip, that one actually belongs to a different strip mall (the one with Markie's Smoked Meat and Mr. Sub). There are signs indicating you can only park there if you are going to a business in that strip mall. Not sure what enforcement is like, but why chance it if there's also free parking in the proper place, right? Since there's a huge median along this part of Carling Ave, you can only access the restaurant if you are driving westbound on Carling. Georgie's has its main entrance on Carling but there's also a back entrance from the parking lot.

Simply put...AWESOME PIZZA…read more I have ordered from here a few times and I'm embarrassed to say I neglected to review each time before now, I was typically so hungry I just jumped right in... alas I digress. I have had a few different types of pizzas here, in the end my favourite is the cheese. Yup, straight cheese. Seems basic, but the flavour is outstanding and the dough ball to keep the box from sticking to the cheese is a classically delicious touch. I really like the flavour combinations of the cheese with the sauce puts many other to shame. If you are in this end of the town, give this place a shot, you won't be disappointed. I'll be back for sure.
