As a pediatric general dentist, I'm seeing 40-80 kids a day - to say my vision is critical is an understatement, and I'd only be trusting my eyes to the best. LASIK has completely changed my daily clinical and non-clinical life, and even 5 or so years after my original surgery date, easily remains one of the best health related expenses I've ever done. For those of you interested in the academic side of things, Dr. Zhu is well credentialed - a Harvard graduated MD, with Ophthalmology residency at the Doheny Eye Institute / USC & Los Angeles County Medical Center. Her fellowship was at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. As if that's not enough, she still does research and mentors upcoming residents. This level of training and active commitment to the medical community as a whole speaks volumes to the caliber of clinician that Dr. Zhu is and aspires to build unto others. Non-academically, Dr. Zhu herself is incredibly personable, and shows an unwavering commitment to her patients - even years later, she personally follows up me multiple times, and is as interested in my own vision outcomes as I am. She is thorough, detail-oriented, and can confidently convey the same depth and breath of knowledge to her patients. Due to my correction being borderline for the limits of LASIK, all contingencies were planned for to ensure excellent outcomes. Even years later, I have not had a single post-op complication, including zero days of dry eyes. Dr. Zhu is an amazing eye surgeon, and more importantly, an awesome human being. There is certainly a balance when it comes to all types of doctor appointments; including this one. On one hand, no one wants to wait too long, and on the other hand, we want as much time as we need to discuss patient care with the doctor. Then, there is the issue of the doctor not listening to us as long as we want to discuss all of the possible ailments and self-diagnosis we found on the Internet. Thus, it seems to come down to how many appointments are scheduled to give everyone ample attention. Overall, I think this office does a satisfactory job taking this balance into consideration. Regarding Dr. Innocenzi, he does not get involved with speculation but seems to know what's going on right away. He will not leave you with a feeling of concern unless he knows there is an issue. This, of course, is a result of his years of experience. At the same time, he will schedule all necessary tests to rule out any issues. My last appointment involved several diagnostic tests; all of which came back normal. The tests were performed by a technician who was professional and friendly. In addition, I was seen within 10 minutes of checking in. Dr. Innocenzi's office uses a mailing system for test results; which includes three options: 1. Schedule a follow-up appointment immediately; 2. Schedule a follow-up in six months: and 3. Schedule a follow-up in one year. I would imagine if it was a true emergency, the office would call. Ultimately, I have had good experiences at Dr. Innocenzi's office and will continue to patronize his business.
