Super big portion for the "party hat" cone. I wish they offered more than two flavors per cone. They do a quick tasting flight of all the flavors for free and it was really fun to hear them explain each one. It was hard to pick because they all were so yummy! read more

An's Hatmakers - Pistachio and brown butter cookie flavors - Gelato Near Me - Del Mar, California

My rating is based on the customer service received at the Del Mar location which was sub par at best. This location is night and day compared to the Normal Heights location. Instead of being greeted by friendly staff with warm smiles and recommendations, we were stared at by an employee who clearly didn't want to be there, who made no attempt to speak with us or make suggestions unless asked. The bill came to $13 for a small and large cup with two flavors each. I ordered the straw hat, which was a vegan passion fruit mango sorbet and the sandals, which was the blue chamomile tea gelato. Both were superb and I'd highly recommend them. The mango was fresh, vibrant and packed a punch. My husband ordered the oven mitts which was an apple pie gelato with bits of pie crust. It was sweet, full of cinnamon and had a wonderful flavor. He then had the vanilla, white chocolate and caramel gelato which was just okay but the apple pie one was really something else. If you're in Normal Heights, check out An's Dry Cleaning which provides top notch service. If you're in North County, then An's Hatmakers is very good as well but customer service is severely lacking and nearly non-existent. read more

Absolutely fantastic! First, the staff were incredible. The three ladies behind the counter (shoutout to the girl in the UW sweatshirt) were amazing. They were SO friendly and encouraged us to do a full tasting, which was a great recommendation. And the gelato? Chef's kiss. It's perfection. read more

Good quality ice cream but limited flavors and no chocolate offerings other than a Nutella. Very difficult to park.

I had an issue with the staff at this location. After leaving a review, the owner reached out a resolved the issue. Thanks for reaching out getting things done. read more

This place is delicious. I went with a friend who was allergic to nuts and they were very knowledgeable about what was safe for him and what he should avoid. They were also careful to prevent cross contaminating scoops. I love that they do a tour of the gelato and let you sample before you commit. There is seating outside or you can take a short stroll down to the park to eat your sweets. The flavors are unique and even though the line can be long, it's worth the wait. It was so creamy and not too sweet. It's dog friendly, too, so you can bring your pup in to order. They even have little waffle cone treats for the dogs! read more

I love An's Dry Cleaning so I knew I would love An's Hatmakers! I love how went with a different name and what they decided to pay homage to as it makes the business even more unique. Follow their Instagram or subscribe to their newsletter to stay up to date about weekly flavors. 2-hour street parking is available nearby or the parking lot that the shop is attached to has free parking for the first hour. read more

My favorite gelato shop. I will always make an excuse to stop by one of the shops if I am in the area especially with the summer heat. I had friends visiting from out of town and we had gone to Torrey pines for a hike and beach day and were in the area so we had to have some after being in the sun. We had have some the night before at the Petco park shop, but I do prefer coming to a shop one compared to the Petco one just because the explanations of the flavors is better at the Del Mar and the north park. The experience is better, I love trying the flavor and the way the employee explain the flavors. They do such a good job at it and enjoy it every time. The flavors they had here were are so good! It makes it hard to choose only two of them. I got the hard hat and tweed. We needed some coffee and we were actually going to go get some coffee but the hard hat had coffee so we lucked out. It was so good. I am always amazed how the names are coordinated with the specific location. The party hat for the cone and the hat box for the pint is so cute. The party hat is always so good and it's my go to order. Will keep coming here. read more

This place is amazing! Super fun place! Loved the decor as a dry cleaning place but yet it's an ice cream shop. All gluten free options, even the waffle cones! Got to sample all the flavors! Saw that it was rated as the top ice cream place in the US. Definitely is in my book. I've been to a lot of ice cream shops all over the US. Parking is a pain, as it's street parking. Usually a line. But it's worth it! read more

Fantastic gelato place with a great customer service and a cool look. The first time I entered there I didn't get the memo that this was about eating something instead of wearing something (the hats!). The hat collection caught my attention and just after a while I realized they were not on sale! After that first fiasco, nothing stops me to go and have some nice gelato every time that I am at Del Mar plaza. Definitively a favorite hang out spot and they have a couple of outside tables that makes it more breathable as it gets pretty busy especially on the weekends. read more

Hatmakers is our go-to spot for gelato, especially compared to the other An's locations where lines can get pretty long. The staff is always super friendly and welcoming, making the experience even better. The flavors are consistently delicious and fresh. I highly recommend trying the party hat which is the best waffle cone I've ever had. Definitely a must-visit for gelato lovers read more

Super unique flavors that change every week! I forgot the name of what I got but it was salted caramel Service was quick and friendly! You can sample them before you choose! Absolutely loved my visit to Ann's Hat Makers! This place is such a hidden gem--not only do they serve some of the most creative and delicious gelato flavors I've ever had, but the whole vibe is charming and inviting. A huge shoutout to Natalie, who made the experience even better. She was incredibly friendly, patient, and helpful while I took my time deciding (I can be pretty indecisive with so many great choices!). She let me sample a few flavors and never rushed me--total sweetheart. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. Great gelato, great people. Hats off to An's Hatmakers in Del Mar! Finally got my gelato fix! I got Leather (brown butter & chocolate chip cookie) & Juno (peanut butter, white chocolate & toasted oats). Hubby got the Strawberry Champagne & Mango Passionfruit. Love their concept! The flavors are listed on the hatboxes! So cute! I have been to their location in North Park and totally loved it! So glad that made it up here in the North County area. I definitely want to try their other flavors! They don't really have too much seating but we found some chairs up above in the Plaza that faces the ocean. It was a nice day to be out and enjoy my gelato! read more

I had visited their other location in North Park and saw there was one closer to me in Del Mar. Upon arrival we were greeted with a cheery staff member ready to take my order. I loved how patience and helpful they were with the kiddos in letting them try various flavors. The "fascinator" was delightful! A fan favorite! I really loved how they offer vegan options too. Seeing how the kiddos and I practically licked our cups clean...it's safe to say we will definitely be back. read more

Showed up on a rainy day and was happy the rain did not stop me from getting ice cream here. The place is so cute!!! Instagram pictures incoming LOL, but they have delicious flavors to match the aesthetics. For the vegans and lactose intolerant people they have flavors for you to enjoy as well. I got the Fascinator (strawberry flavor) and the Sashiko (green tea and pistachio flavor). You wouldn't think that green tea and pistachio would mix well, but they do! And add in the strawberry flavor it was a good combo. The girls working that night were amazing and went above and beyond with the service. They were ready to give us a tour, but since it started getting busy I declined LOL. Definitely coming back to see what future seasonal flavors they come up with. read more

I was searching for ice cream, as I usually am, and was pleasantly surprised to find that An had a location in Del Mar. I absolutely love their gelato and often go to their Dry Cleaning. The space was well decorated with a couple of tables inside and out. My experience each time at An's has been fantastic. I always feel welcomed. As I was with family, they went through the tasting from the palate cleanser onwards. Such a great and tasty experience for them. I got their mango & passionfruit and brown butter & chocolate chip cookies. Highly recommend An's Hatmakers! read more

Absolutely loved this place! I was so excited to eat that I forgot to take a photo hahah but I loved it! When you go inside, someone will ask if you've been there before and if you haven't, you get to sample the whole menu! I fell in love with the "Leather" ice cream flavor which was a brown sugar base flavor with chocolate chips - tasted like an amazing chocolate chip cookie!! My partner got the mango flavor and it was very tart but good! Would definitely come back, I'll be craving this for a while hahah read more

LOVE LOVE this business!!! It's always an experience that makes my day, at both An's Dry Cleaning and An's Hat Makers!! I must say though, An's Hatmakers is the only reason for me to frequently drive to Del Mar, even though it's some of San Diego's most beautiful real estate!! I would drive to ends of the earth for my personal favorite which is VISOR!! I had Visor once at An's Dry Cleaning on Adams Ave and it drove me completely crazy about this business! Everything in this flavor is balanced and on point!!! Kudos, thank goodness for this delicious cream and roasted pistachios!!! Oooooh My Goodness read more

The staff were really helpful and friendly! I didn't really get the whole hat maker and laundry theme so the decor seemed kind of random. There's probably a backstory that I'm missing though. We got the leather(brown butter and chocolate chip cookies) and clay(Nutella and brownie) flavors and were a little underwhelmed. There were no obvious flavors and tasted just sweet. Would pick salt and straw over this. read more

My friend suggested we come by here since we usually frequent a couple other spots in Del Mar. I am so glad we did because I got to explore the little area around the shop and also enjoy such a wonderful sweet treat. What happens if you're addicted to this ice cream? Can I be their product tester for all the vegan flavors? Any place that has vegan ice cream options is an automatic win in my book. Wow! We had such an amazing experience at An's! We had heard great things about their gelato, but hadn't had the chance to swing by until this week. As soon as we entered, we were warmly greeted by the staff. We loved the interior of the location, as well as the clever names for the flavors. We mentioned that this was our first time in, and Emily offered to do a "tasting tour" for us. She let us sample each of the available flavors, while giving us a wonderful rundown about each one. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the products, and was patient with us as we decided (with such great flavors, it took each of us a minute to decide). I would HIGHLY recommend this (or any of the other locations) to anyone looking for a magnificent tasty treat! read more

EVERY flavor is amazing. They are creative. The service is excellent. I haven't written a review in a while, but this place deserves 5 stars. The service was excellent. We were offered the "flavor tour", where we tried every flavor and they explained each one. Perhaps, more importantly, I loved every flavor. They have 300 on rotation that change monthly, and it reminds me of how much I love the creativity of Salt and Straw (another beloved establishment). BUT I loved ALL of An's flavors. Sometimes I feel like Salt and Straw just makes things into ice cream, but it doesn't always work. At An's, they ALL worked. The pistachio was the best pistachio I've had. Their version of tiramisu was amazing. Their Leather flavor, which has homemade cookies, was amazing. read more

Saw the original An's Dry Cleaning featured on Gareth Leonard's SD video, so I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon their expansion in Del Mar! My wife and I tried the: Calico (pumpkin spice & cream cheese) Coppola (cookies & cream) Velour (salted caramel & chocolate dipped waffle cone chunks) Cypress (midnight dark chocolate) They were all super tasty with that delectably creamy yet airy texture found in the best gelato. We especially enjoyed the incredibly fresh flavors of the Coppola along with the dark, pudding-esque texture of the Cypress. Service was very welcoming and the scoops were massive =D read more

After eating at Monarch Ocean Pub, we wanted some dessert so we went downstairs to An's Hatmakers. First off - I love a good themed shop. AND it's an ice cream shop? Talk about cherry on top. It's a small, popular store so it's no surprise we had to wait in a bit of a line on a Sunday afternoon. It went quickly though! They don't have a ton of flavors but you are able to sample them and their staff is super helpful. I went with the Dutch apple pie in a waffle cone. It was so perfectly creamy and the flavor was just right. It was perfect to eat as we walked to the beach. Just eat it quickly before it melts! I love that they rotate their menu too. Just another reason to keep coming back! read more

We got the taste tour & was able to try every flavor they had. I loved so many flavors it was so difficult to choose! Luckily they said we can mix two flavors together, even in the small cup. I would highly recommend asking for a taste test if it's your first time! read more

Gelato under the guise of a hatmaker makes for such an adorable shop! The servers were very friendly and offered tastes on real, not disposable spoons. They were very patient, describing the flavors in detail. I chose the Top Hat with rich chocolate gelato and chocolate almond cake and Nutella. And after my server's recommendation, I topped my cone with the Floppy Hat, a vegan, coconut milk based peanut butter gelato with vegan brownie bits!!! Both were so delicious, who could ask for more?
