What a fun place as long as you don't mind waiting in line. We got lucky on a Wed night after an early dinner at Pacifica, we stopped by and there was no line. The service here is excellent. They give you a sample of all the flavors and it was so fun to try everything. I opted for a large cup, half pistachio and half white chocolate swirl. It was a bit sweeter than I expected but it was excellent still.
The gelato is so smooth! I was in the area so came by to try. I think a size small is just perfect for me, and I'm so glad that you can put up to two flavors in small size. The inside of the shop is very small, so it's better to grab your cups and eat outside (two tables) or eat your gelato while browsing the shops in the area. Be prepared to wait when it's busy because the workers who help you scoop your gelato really let you take your time to try all their flavors!
An's holds the title of the top gelato spot in America for a reason! This location specifically in Del Mar is a hat themed shop with a lot of random and quirky hat decor. Wifey and I finally got to try the new sorbet flavors they have: the Ngob (Mango) and the McAllen (Strawberry Grapefruit). I really enjoyed both of these flavors and they were so refreshing for the summer!
Finally went to one of An's Hatmakers locations in SD! I heard and read about them and they are such a hype and it's hard for me to check them out since I don't live locally. We were in the area and walked down to An's after a late lunch/early dinner. The staff were super friendly and each of them repeat the same lengthy descriptive menu of the day for everyone with genuine enthusiasm. Kudos for all of them! I forgot what I got now since it was at least a month ago that we went there but I just know we were so satisfied! My suggestion is to go with the staff's suggestion! lol
Well shoooot I might like Gelato now. Definitely the best Gelato I've had. The line wasnt too crazy when we got there (get ~45min before sunset then walk to the park cause after its looooong) and one scooper was moving it along fast while still doing the tour which was appreciated. Downside is the Gelato places around me aren't this good so still deferring to ice cream. Shout out to the random person on the bus that randomly found us approachable to start talking about all his fav food places and recommended this place (along with some others that held up). Ill call him the 101 foodie. Also they dont make hats from what I saw but they do have ones you can try on while in line once inside.
This place is super super cute and is by the same people as An's Dry Cleaning and An's Electronics! I absolutely love that they have their flavor tour which is where they give you a sample of every flavor they have. They also have very unique flavors and change it up every few weeks. My favorite flavor they had was when they had their Matcha collab with Paru Tea, and I believe they still bring the matcha flavor back sometimes! They definitely get really busy on the weekends (1-2 hour wait) so I recommend going on a weekday where I only had to wait 10 minutes! The pricing is a little pricy, but not too bad, especially for the quality and service they provide! I also definitely recommend going to their other stores too as they are all different themes. Free 1 hour parking garage!
Spent an amazing weekend in Del Mar. The scenery, the people, the seafood made for a true getaway. After dinner we naturally started to think about something sweet to cap off the night. Found An's nearby, but when we walked over there was a line down the street, so we decided to come back the next day. We came back the next day after lunch and there was nobody in line! The setup here is different than other ice cream / gelato shops. Here they have a limited selection of flavors that they change every few weeks, and it's customary for them to give you a taste and explanation of each one before ordering, similar to a wine tasting. After the tasting they ask you to choose 2 flavors. I don't remember the flavor names, but they're named after iconic hats. I had a flavor that had mango and passion fruit mixed with a flavor that tasted straight out of a See's candy box. Wife had a super dark chocolate with matcha. All I can say are the boldness of flavors they achieve here can only be done thru using the highest of quality ingredients. Truly remarkable their flavors. They are extremely indulgent without being too rich, hard to explain but each bite was so addictive. We can't wait to return to Del Mar and bring the whole family (and dogs) next time, and An's will be a must visit on that trip. True 5 star, must try spot. (Sorry about the messy half eaten pics...)
Cute themed ice cream place! Unique flavors and high quality ice cream. Line was long but to be expected! They give lots of samples and are super friendly :)
One of my favorite Gelato shops in SD! Although it's a sister location to An's Dry Cleaning, the line is a lot shorter, especially if you go right when it opens. I love how the staff does flavor tours, where you get to sample and hear about each flavor before you order. I got a large double scoop of the leather (chocolate chip cookie) and visor (pistachio) and loved how nutty visor was. I would recommend pairing nutty visor with cypress if you're interested in a dark dubai chocolate note. This shop is close to the beach, but there is a paid garage attached to the plaza. If you are willing to walk, there is street parking in the vicinity.
The lore of these An's gelato spots is so cool - love that they really pay homage to the previous business and that it's embedded in the store name, decor, and flavor names. Their gelato is truly the best I've had in my life - dare I say, I enjoyed this more than the gelato I had in Italy. The ceremonial strawberry matcha flavor was DIVINE if you're a matcha lover. Such strong pure matcha flavor, just the right amount of sweetness and creaminess. The strawberry jam is homemade. The strawberry sorbet was strawberry galore - 6 lbs strawberries per batch. I love that they let every customer do the flavour tour. It does crank up the line times but it's worth it. Also, it's only a long line if you catch them at a busy time like weekends or after work. This place was so good we came back 3 times on our 1 week trip here. Not to mention, the staff is SO nice!
My co-residents and I knew that we had to stop by one of An's ice cream shops before leaving SD and I am so glad we did because this was the best gelato I've ever had. The experience was overall just so fun too because we were literally able to sample every flavor before ordering and they were all so good that it was hard to decide. The workers were so sweet and chatty and overall just added to the positive experience! There's a few tables inside and I absolutely LOVED their decorations!! There were so many hats all around and it was such a cute concept. For the gelato, I decided to get a small with the flavors Leather and Cypress. The Leather was a brown butter flavor with chocolate chips and I was so impressed. It was soo rich and so addicting that I bought a pint of it to bring home, even though I lived a 2 hour drive away. The Cypress was a super rich chocolate flavor which I also loved! The slight bitterness was a great contrast to the sweetness of the Leather. I was so addicted and would definitely recommend this place!
Love this place. Always a great experience. The teenagers working there are always so well mannered and do a great job with their tour sample. I got the power supply (coffee, dulce leche, cinnamon) and leather ( brown butter chocolate chip cookies). Small size is more than enough ice cream for me. So delicious!
What to say about this place that hasn't already been said... the ice cream is so amazing and the joy of trying all the flavors is always so fun. This place is always worth coming back because they have so many flavors and all of them have their own unique texture and profile. They make ice cream an art here. The parking situation isn't so good but the structure it's located in offers free parking for up to an hour. Pro tip to skip the line get a pint and enjoy it down by the water or up the stairs to the left of the storefront for an ocean view!!!!!

What a cute, delicious little shop in the Del Mar Plaza area. The staff was friendly and encouraged us to taste test all 6 flavors including a palate cleanser. I love that we could get 2 flavors in one cup and they were all really good. read more

We had the BEST experience here today. I cannot recommend this place enough! Me and my two kids came out to San Diego from Phoenix for a couple of days and randomly stopped here. We were looking for ice cream, but the Del Mar area only seems to have the fancier stuff lol. Aaron was an absolute gem - he asked if we had been there before and then gave us the tour by explaining all the flavors of gelato in wonderful detail, along with sampling EVERYTHING! Even my hard to please 15 year old daughter was beside herself with how much fun we had and the pure joy of tasting EVERYTHING! Without having to ask! It was such a wonderful experience, and the pistachio was absolutely to DIE for. I ended up eating half of my son's cone and went back and waited in line to buy more to take with us. It's not very often I give a review like this, but the little details go such a long way. Aaron and his energy was the icing on the cake along with the delicious desserts. Cannot recommend this place highly enough! Coming from a mom and two kids who just wanted ice cream after a long day at the beach read more

Impressing the teens is no joke! Thanks for coming by and hope to see…
Exquisite! Huge shout out to Faith and Leah for taking us on an ice cream adventure--they were utterly charismatic, knowledgeable, and friendly. The ice creams were fantastic. Such a variety of flavors, textures, and even color. Loved the olive oil & rosemary flavor as well as the one that has waffle cone chunks. Delicious dessert. The store is clean and well decorated. It's on the first floor of the shopping mall before the stairs. Come through! read more

Ice Cream taste like super market brands however the price is ridiculously high but maybe it is because they are in Del Mar. unfortunately, this is the first Ice Cream shop I have ever been to that is so hot it feels like a Sauna!!! It literally was cooler outside than inside this shop. I'm not sure if the owner is trying to keep their AC bill down but literally it was unbearably HOT in an ice cream store. I feel bad for the workers it like working in a sweat shop read more

This ice cream altered my brain chemistry. When I read that a place had the best x or y, I'm always a bit skeptical. Like how good can it get that someone would say that? No, yall, this place deserves the credit it gets. Not only are the flavors and the experience excellent but the texture of their gelato sends me back to a via or piazza in Italy on a sunny day. The service also takes it up a notch by giving you a tasting of all their flavors, which is super neat, especially if it is your first time. If you're trying to decide if it's worth it, let this be your sign and go order the entire menu. read more

An's Hatmakers Ice Cream in Del Mar matches its reputation. It has sister locations called An's Dry Cleaner (original) and An's Electronics Repair all designed to fit the motif. The flavors taste so fresh. The shop has a cool, welcoming vibe and the staff are always so friendly and patient. Whether it's your first time going or your 10th time, do the flavor tour. They let you sample every flavor on the menu. It's the kind of spot that makes you want to come back again and again. read more

Love a flavor tour loyalist! Thanks for being a fan, Clay.
We recently came down after a wonderful afternoon at Monarch. Even though we were looking for it we still almost missed it. Even though it isn't really a speakeasy- it definitely has that energy. I'm a fan of An's Dry Cleaners in North Park which serves the same delicious gelato with unique flavors and names. Here they are all named in ways that are on theme with the dry cleaner/hat shop vibe and they change flavors often so you can keep coming back for more! I definitely recommend trying a few, I always end up being surprised by one and ordering a larger size so I can get multiple flavors. There is a parking garage around the corner as well as street parking. There are some great local businesses nearby and I suggest making An's a part of your afternoon in Del Mar! read more
The service was very quick and efficient. The ice cream was pretty good. It wasn't overly sweet and had a great flavor. It didn't just taste like milk like some of these other places. Although prices are a bit steep. For this tiny thing with tax it came out to $7 !! I would only go back if I was driving through the area. It's good ice cream but not that special read more
Very cute decor!! Love the way that they have the menu on hat boxes! Very well themed and creative! They let you sample here! They have vegan options if you are interested! My favorite was the Bonnet! That is vanilla latte and marshmallow. At first I thought it was going to be very sweet, but it was perfect amount of sweetness! My second favorite was Breton. That was green apple with sweet cherry jam! Visor was a popular one that our group and I saw other people getting. Visor is roasted pistachio. On a small you are still able to get two different flavors! Great customer service! Would recommend on coming here! Especially on a hot day to cool off! This place is located in a nice shopping and restaurant complex. There are lots to do here and you can stop by for some sweets! read more
The shop is so cute and the staff were so nice! I also loved that their menu was not overwhelming, so I'd imagine that every flavor must be good. I got the pistachio and the chocolate hazelnut. Both flavors were deliciously nutty and so creamy. I would love to go back next time I'm in the area! read more

This is a very cute and unique gelato place! The store theme is really interesting. We didn't think much when we saw hatmakers in their store name but we were pleasantly surprised when we saw that boxes and hats on racks in the store. If we didn't know better, we would have thought this was a boutique store. The "menu" is on the hat boxes behind the counter and has the flavors and descriptions of what the flavor consists of. We chose two large cones which allowed us to get 2 flavors each. It was difficult choosing but they allowed us to sample before choosing. We got fascinator which is a strawberry sorbet and super refreshing during the hot summer days. We also got top hat which is milk chocolate, Nutella, and chocolate cake crumble. This is a must for chocolate lovers. For the other cone, we got foulard which is cheesecake with graham pieces, and macnilla which is vanilla and macadamia. These flavors were also pretty good. Definitely recommend the foulard for a more interesting combination. The flavors were all very good, however be careful if you get a cone. There is a hole on the bottom of the cone and it keeps dripping there especially in the hot sun. It made a bit of a mess. The cone itself was nice and sweet. Would definitely recommend checking out this place. read more
We came in here for dessert after having dinner nearby, and we had a wonderful experience! The gentlemen that were working the gelato bar that evening were very polite and helpful. Amazing manners are always appreciated, especially when one is traveling with little ones. They took us through the tasting flight and it was SO helpful to us as it allowed us to narrow down what we wanted more easily. Everything I tried was wonderful, and there is definitely a flavor here for everyone. I highly recommend this shop! I love how their flavors are seasonally named, too. Ambiance: casual and cute. Lots of bright spots for photo opps. read more

Arrived after movies. This was on our list to do! We were not disappointed! Fascinator, Merino, and Beanie were ordered. All Fantastic Flavors! The rich strawberry of Fascinator had my son wrapped in ecstasy while the crunchiness of the Merino kept me surprised with each chunky crunchiness and the Beanie sent my wife into orbit of goodness as the bread pudding bits caused yumminess to abound. This is a MUST STOP AND VISIT next time you come to Del Mar. I cannot say enough of how friendly and warm the staff was with us. No issues trying any flavors to help you decide. Incredible service! When it's your first time, they take you on their full laundry experience. It's a cute shop with laundry themed decor and flavor names: lingerie, leather, Christmas sweater, etc. I loved the matcha pistachio and the other caffeinated flavors; however, I can't have them at night...so the strawberry chocolate flavor was pretty good. They welcomed us in with the ginger lime palette cleanser; fresh and similar to when you go to a Japanese restaurant and have ginger before a meal. Many of the flavors reminded me of the holiday cookies like dark chocolate peppermint, snickerdoodles, ginger molasses, brown butter chocolate chip, matcha pistachio cookie overall, the experience was amazing with generous portions! The price is 5.95 for the small so it can be a bit pricey but a fun time for sure! read more

We ordered a small cup and chose Crochet and Leather as the flavor. Both flavor were pretty good, but I liked Leather a bit more. They do rotate flavors, but luckily they offer samples. Even if they rotate a specific flavor out, there might still be a chance for you to find that flavor in the fridge (it'll just be pint-sized). Their gelato was very soft and creamy. I would say it's the softest gelato I've ever eaten. If you're looking for a thick, creamy consistency, this place might not be for you. Parking might be a bit difficult, but they do have 20-min street parking available nearby. read more

What an adorable place! My friend recommended this spot and we happen to be in town for my sons club soccer tournament so we decided to get a treat here. First off, this location is locate in such a nice spot not too far from the beach. There are lots of places to eat outdoors while enjoying the ocean view. Parking is pretty easy to find. There are 2 entrances that lead into a parking structure located behind the center where An's is located. An's is so adorable! I love the decorations and the style of this place. We didn't know what to get so they immediately offered us a gelato tour, which I have never seen a place do. Even after the you it was hard to choose because everything tasted so good! The gelato was so nice, and so creamy. I ordered mine with a waffle cone which was also delicious and freshly made. It was so good that I bought a couple pints to go but I don't think it was as good as eating it there. Love this place! Can't wait to go back again! read more
We had been anticipating the opening but as we traveled quite a bit, we finally got to try this new gelato place in our neighborhood. When I got in, Maisie greeted me. She was very welcoming and helpful. She even noticed that my husband and dog were outside and told me that they are Dog friendly. I got Almond cherry and actually finished it. For someone who rarely eats sweets, that means it was incredible! There were chunks of cherries with chopped almonds. My husband got the midnight chocolate and gobbled it up! I loved the hat maker decor/setting as it's very different from what you expect. Gives it a nice European flare to this establishment. Definitely worth coming here regularly. read more
An's Dry Cleaning (Gelato) is now in North County San Diego (Del Mar Plaza) named An's Hatmakers. Woot Woot!! For those that don't know, An's Dry Cleaning (Gelato) in North Park (San Diego) is voted one of the best gelato places. https://adcgelato.com/ans-history/ I went in early March (soft opening). Some of my new favorite ice cream in San Diego! I'm usually not a gelato person but loved their selection. I didn't know this when going in but it's a totally gluten free facility which is pretty amazing given the flavors that they had to offer and the waffle cone! My favorite part was the service; they offer a flavor tour where you get to try everything which is perfect for an indecisive person like myself. I got the peanut butter brownie flavor and dark dark chocolate and the chocolate flavor was definitely my favorite - It was rich and creamy. The peanut butter brownie flavor was also good but it was coconut based so a little more icy than I would have liked. They change the flavors on a monthly basis apparently so I'll definitely be back to try more! read more

I had An's Drycleaning bookmarked for the longest time and happened upon this shop by chance! It's located in the cutest plaza with a view of the ocean just beyond the houses. There's a parking garage underneath but also street parking up the hill. While I appreciate the simplicity of the menu, I was slightly disappointed because the flavors from previous reviews/photos were more diverse. When I came, the menu flavors included coffee, chai, chocolate chip cookie etc which are all on a similar wavelength (there was a strawberry sorbet option though). I ended up with the Leather which is brown butter chocolate chip - I'm a sucker for brown butter and the nutty, caramelly flavor so naturally I enjoyed it immensely. The gelato itself was also creamy and smooth. Now if only this were a real hat shop by the sea selling ice cream on the side. read more
Is it an antique hat store? Is it a store that makes custom hats? Is it a store that sells supplies to make hats? The answer to these questions is a big NO! Believe it or not, this is a gelato shop, and a good one at that! Upon arrival, my friend and I were invited to try a sample of all the flavors available. For starters, we each had a spoon of the lime basil sorbet to cleanse our palette. The friendly server then guided us through a lineup of flavors that started off light, then eventually progressed in richness. Our first sample after the cleansing one was the watermelon-cucumber sorbet. We took a bite at the same time while looking at each and knew instantly it was love at first bite! There were sparkles in our eyes and we knew this was it! All the flavors that followed failed in comparison... We tried all 9 flavors available for the day and kept circling back to "the one." We decided to each get a large scoop of the watermelon-cucumber sorbet. A large scoop here is fairly small in comparison to a typical large at other ice cream parlors, but I suppose for the price, we got premium and original flavors that aren't available elsewhere. Like fine dining, this is about quality, not quantity. This would have been a 5-star rating had our scoops been fuller. It was a bit lopsided and empty in some spots. A little more would have been perfect. Overall, we enjoyed the experience here at An's Hatmakers and would recommend this to friends. read more
Great gelato spot in Del Mar. There is 2-hour street parking as well as a 20-minute parking spot directly in front. Pros: -they let you sample flavors -interior is very cute with a hat display and what I like to refer to as a hobbit looking door. -I ordered the Juno (peanut butter) and pistachio gelato. My favorite was Juno. Sooo good. -their waffle cones are nice and sturdy. It's almost like you're eating a cookie. Cons: -not a lot of seating options. Overall- great, fun little place if you want to get a treat. read more

Adorable little shop with delectable, creamy gelato in unique flavors! Dropped in on a whim, and every single flavor was so delicious I had trouble deciding. The staff there were so nice and patient while we sampled the incredible selection, and the scoops are super generous. I LOVE that they have vegan options, because although I'm not vegan, I am sensitive to lactose. I ended up getting the matcha green tea (made with oat milk) and the mango passionfruit. My husband had espresso with hazelnut and the brown butter chocolate chip cookies. My bestie got the carrot cake (which IS AMAZING and tastes exactly like carrot cake). Some logistics: parking on street and in the shopping center garage. Free parking if you're there under an hour. The shop is on the street level of the center. If you're craving some rich, decadent gelato with fun flavors, definitely check this place out! read more

I've been to the original location (An's Dry Cleaning) and am very excited that they opened up a second location! This location is based on hats and the whole store is incredibly cute and themed. We went on a Saturday afternoon around 2 pm and there was no one else inside. We embarked on a flavor tour starting with their palate cleanser and sampled all their flavors. It was hard to choose but I ended up getting a cone (called a "party hat") with the calico (pumpkin and cream cheese) and cypress (midnight dark chocolate). My partner got the raspberry flavor in a small cup. The service is excellent and the two women who were working that day were very patient with us as we decided what to order. Each size allows for 2 flavors. I believe we paid close to $13 for one small cup and one cone. They also have pints available for ~$12. We found street parking easily right in front of the store. There is also garage parking, which I think is free for 1 hour. Dog friendly and they have multiple tables outside for eating. Highly recommend this place! Love both this location and the original locations read more

Overall: Great gelato, it was just difficult to find. Really cute spot, but actually quite hard to find. I walked up and down the street it is on and went up multiple floors in the building complex that they're in. I was ready to give up until I was walking down the stairs from the 2nd floor and finally saw the sign! It's sign is not lit up, so its difficult to find at night. It's location is right underneath the "Del Mar Plaza" sign. Not much seating, but the interior is super cute and they let you try samples. There's not a ton of flavors but each one is so unique. They give you a good amount too! I had the cypress (midnight) and juno (peanut butter, white chocolate, toasted oats) and it was the perfect combination! I would come back here again now that i know where it is. Service was great. The girls working were friendly and patient as I asked for their suggestions and what flavors to try. read more

Glad you could make it back in, Emily!
This place is the real deal! I came in on a Tuesday evening to a small line. When we got to the front to order, the woman at the counter asked us if we'd like to do the flavor tour. I expected it to just be more in depth descriptions of their offerings but we actually got to try every flavor they offered. And so glad we did that because my initial choices for flavors before trying them and what I ended up ordering were completely different. Love that they take their time with each customer and their genuinely warm demeanor. Easy to see why they're ranked one of the top in the nation! read more

Kyna - the real deal is you! Thank you so so much for your wonderful…
Able to snag a soft opening time slot to try out four flavors: 1) palate cleanser - vegan mint and like sorbet. It's extremely refreshing, but melts super quick (which the owners let us know). It's a perfect treat for walking along the beach. 2) Panama - 3 day infused cinnamon infusion mixed with cream cheese frosting and challah bread. My least favorite of the 4, it's very cinnamon forward. 3) canvas - rosemary + extra virgin olive oil. It's savory and creamy, but subtle. It's a nice, not too sweet night cap. 4) visor - pistachios galore. If you are a pistachio nut, get this. It's pounds upon pounds of nuts per each batch and it really comes through. It's bold. It's great. One of the partners is a gelato connoisseur /expert / maybe a black belt in gelato making from Europe who helps craft new flavors, so that's a huge thing to have in your back pocket as a business owner. The decor inside is an homage to Opening Day at the race track. They chose this location so that locals can enjoy craft gelato and that we shall. read more

Love An's Dry Cleaning, came on Sunday evening specifically for the Lunar New Year flavors - Han Fu & Sedge (see photo for flavor description). 4 stars instead of 5 because my waffle cone was burnt and the gelato was on the softer, a little too soft side than I've had before. Flavors though are on point, great location with sunset views and clever decor. Staff were very friendly and helpful. No samples right now and no fluff and fold fills due to Covid. They will be getting their own containers here soon. read more

Wow finally an ice cream/gelato shop by Del Mar beach. Apart from Seaside Yogurt and Elixir Juice, there really isn't a dessert place near Del Mar beach. I got a small (Bowler is it?) of Straw Hat and Argyle. Straw Hat is a mango and passion fruit sorbet while Argyle is a Strawberry Vanilla Chocolate gelato. I really liked both but Argyle was everyone's favorite. Everyone in my family got a scoop of Argyle. While the flavors I got were great, couple of other flavors I sampled were really not my thing. The vanilla with white chocolate gelato (Beret ?) was way too sweet. And there weren't that many flavors to choose from to begin with. They have around 6 - 8 flavors at any time. But the good thing is the flavors are on rotation. So there is always something new to look forward to. The folks running this store are really friendly and nice! Everyone is welcoming, cheerful and helpful! Kudos on customer service. It was a good first experience and I am curious to try their other seasonal flavors. read more
