BUTTERMILK PANCAKES AND BACON
Danielle W.

I have been wanting to try this place as it sits in the strip by my nail salon and today I finally got the chance. There is ample parking and wheel chair accessible. The restuarant is not very big but there is a bar area with a TV. Average noise for a restaurant. After we were seated our awesome server offered to go over the menu and asked what she recommended. The food didn't disappoint. I got the buttermilk pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs. I will definitely try this place again and try different things.

Lunch duo chicken & waffles and brunch jambalaya

The Lunch duo is a still at 10.99 and is offered all day. I sat at the bar and was served by esther who was delightful. I was here for breakfast and ordered 1/2 chicken & waffles and the cup of brunch jambalaya. The waffle was Belgian style, light and airy. The chicken tenders were slightly under seasoned, lightly battered and crisp. The brunch jambalaya was delicious. It was seasoned with the perfect combination of shrimp, sausage, and crawfsh. It was served with an over easy egg on top which I'm not usually a fan of but it worked out great on this dish.

This has been in Indy for a while and has some good brunch/breakfast options. I had a pretty good experience but my brother not so much. They messed up his rode a few times and still charged him he was pretty laid back about it so didn't cause a fuss. It has a cute outdoors area if you want to be covered outdoors.

The ambiance is cute and airy. We were seated right away at 10:30 am on a Sunday but it got really busy after we sat down. Our server was Chloe and while she was super busy, she was great and attentive to everyone's tables. I had their seasonal Louisiana Quiche with grits and house blend coffee. The quiche was huge for 1 person and I ate it for 3 meals total. The grits are amazing, and you can fancy them up by getting the "city grits" if you want. Plain with butter and Splenda worked great for me. The quiche was very good, not spicy but very flavorful. I would get it again. Husband had the B&G with scrambled eggs and bacon. He really liked the Biscuits and Gravy and he's picky. All in all, good breakfast for less than $50 for 2 people with tip.

Strawberry Mimosas

Great Brunch spot ! There is about a 30 minute wait on the weekend. I recommend getting the waitlist online prior to coming. They do not accept reservations. The manager got us seated quickly when our table became available and offered a free order of Biscuit Beignets since it was our first time here. The waiter was attentive, the mimosas was good and strong. We had strawberry & blueberry which was $12.30 a piece. They also offer a pitcher for $33. The lemon pound cake was soooo delicious. It is a bit rich. The bacon was so good. The beignets was a bit doughy in the middle but they were tasty. Overall it was great and we were able to discuss our book without being rushed out. I wish they offer a half size of shrimp and grits but I guess I just have to go back to try it.

Bourbon Street Pancakes

Went in for brunch on the weekend and it was a surprisingly light crowd which we did not mind since there was no wait. Server was very pleasant and once we gave her the order we had our order in about 10 minutes or so. Excellent turnaround. Went for my birthday pancakes and wife got the Crab Benedict. I chose the Bourbon Street Pancakes and they were awesome. Have to try making this myself. The bananas with caramel rum sauce and fresh whipped cream (that's definitely not Reddi-whip.) all came together so well. The crab Benedict was also tasty with Jumbo lump crab. Has a little bit of kick to it but not like a 5 alarm fire or anything. Parking is also free and easy with the large lot. Highly recommend it

Cinnamon roll French toast with berries

Great experience, I sat on the patio yesterday underneath the onning so the sun wasn't beating down on me & it was lovely. Unlike other restaurants I've notice ABEC keeps theirs tidy (no bird droppings need to be wiped off after having already seated guests there) which is big to me. Our waitress was lovely & very knowledgeable of the menu as well as attentive with water refills even though my drink of 1st choice were the mimosas ( which are 1/2 off for happy hour). It was a great experience. The food was perfectly seasoned & proportioned! I'll be returning for sure cheers to Indy having happy hour again!

Eggs & Grits

Last minute decision turned out to be the best one . Never been here before but heard about it and they were busy but we were seated promptly. This place has a diner feel and our waitress was extremely pleasant and gave us great suggestions. I had the Lobster omelet with the bacon grits. Sheeesh...talk about delicious . We also had the kids sampler and poached eggs with grits. The food is an an amazing experience and definitely bring your appetite. Well worth every penny. I'll be back again.

This place is absolutely delicious. We have Michaela as our server and she is such a sweetheart! I ordered the shrimp and grits with the city grits, which is more of a cheesy grit and oh my goodness it was so delicious. They have half off mimosas every day from 12 PM to 2 PM and we were able to the mimosa action! Before the mimosas, we did order a cup of coffee. They have a Colombian blend for their coffee and I got 2 cups, which is abnormal for me at a restaurant. I cannot wait to come back! They have seating indoor and outdoor. It was very clean inside the restaurant. They also have a bar area. Parking is right outside the door.

Biscuit Beignets

This is a great brunch spot because it offers so many unique dishes and drinks! All of their seasonal items sound delicious, from apricot French toast to a shrimp and grits eggs Benedict. They offer a variety of brunch drinks as well, from classic mimosas to spiked cold brews. Everyone at the table can get something different, but for a side, I do recommend their breakfast potatoes, which are perfectly seasoned and crispy. If you come on the weekend, I advise making a recommendation or coming early as it does become packed. The service is always efficient though! I'm not big on breakfast, but the novelty of the dishes here drew me in.

This placed is tucked into a small mall but an absolute find! The atmosphere upon entering was warm and inviting. Our server, Elise was awesome and helped with first time customers! Food was great with refreshing new menu ideas !! Would come again in an instant!

Another full belly day at Another Broken Egg. Excellent sides. They make their own sausage--yummy!! I also love that all caloric nutrients and numbers for every entree and sides are listed. This really helps me aim toward healthier eating! Large parking lot out front, easy to find a spot. Thank you!!

Service: 2/5 Server had the audacity to ask me if I was ready to order after 15 minutes of waiting around. Who was the waiter? Me or her? I couldn't tell you. It seems that she didn't know if it was her or an other server that was supposed to serve me. When my order came out she checked up on me twice which is good, but I shouldn't have to lose 15 minutes of my time looking around wondering if anyone sees me. Food: 3/5 Food was mediocre. I got a side of fruit and a side of pancakes. Nothing too fancy, pretty basic. Fruit tasted funny, like it was marinated in celery juice before it came out... pancakes should come with fresh butter and powdered sugar. Butter in plastic packets is not it. Smores cold brew drink was amazing! I don't even like cold brew but it was dessert in a drink. Had a chocolate and cookie rim, delicious! Ambiance: 3/5 cozy. simple.

I always order the Cuban when a new restaurant has one on the menu, and Big Lug's did not disappoint. It was juicy, flavorful, and one of the better Cubans I've had in a while. On my second visit, I went with the blackened cod tacos on corn tortillas (you can also get flour tortillas, and they offer shrimp and breaded fish options). They were fresh, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. Both visits I ordered the spicy garlic cauliflower, and it was outstanding. The homemade blue cheese dressing took it to another level. If you're on the fence about ordering it, don't be--it was one of my favorite things on the menu. The outdoor walk-up bar creates a really cool, laid-back atmosphere, making it a great place to relax whether you're meeting friends or just enjoying a meal by yourself. The staff was friendly, the service was excellent, and both meals came out quickly. I don't usually eat at the same restaurant twice on a trip, but Big Lug earned it. If I'm back in the area, it'll definitely be on my list again.

Big Lug is a very cool spot right off the Monon, and even better if you have a pooch with you!…read moreUnfortunately, our experience with the service was pretty disappointing. We sat right in the middle of the main thoroughfare and were completely ignored for at least 15 minutes before we finally flagged someone down. The guy, "H," apologized and said, "Oh, my bad--it's all good." We figured, no big deal, let's move on. We ordered pretty simple food, apps and were then going to put in some entrees once apps arrived. We asked for waters and a water bowl for our pups. He brought two waters--with no straws--and no dog bowl. We assumed he was going to grab the bowl, so we waited... and waited. Then I noticed him at the end of the bar leaning against some boxes, texting. So I finally got up, interrupted him and asked for the dog bowl. His response, "oh my bad." Our appetizers came out, and naturally, we asked for silverware. A few minutes later, I spotted "H" in the corner on his phone again. At that point I was thinking, seriously?! So I got up again, interrupted "H's" text convo and asked for silverware. His response again was, "Oh, my bad." I didn't respond to him I just turned around and went back to my seat. Honestly, the whole experience started feeling more like a self-serve restaurant than table service. It's a chill spot and we weren't being needy whatsoever. We never asked for any refills- we were merely asking for the basics. We wanted to order more food, but by that point we were pretty turned off and decided to just get the check. Then came the final straw: my guy had his license and credit card sitting on the table because he hadn't brought his wallet out for our monon trek. When "H" came back with the checkout thing, without question or hesitation - he grabbed the card and swiped it. We didn't even realize what happened until afterward. Maybe that's standard there, but I've never had a server just take my card without asking. Usually you get a "hey do we want to use this card? Or something to confirm. And of course the tip structure is skewed so the min is 20% unless you want to try to figure out to manually enter in 15% (which most ppl don't -incl my guy), so we left 20% and left irritated and still hungry. "H" didn't seem hungover or anything--he just genuinely seemed like he did not not give a shiiiit. We had to get up three separate times to get things we had already requested: the dog bowl, a couple straws, and silverware. (Basics) And a quick note on the 7-Layer Hoss Dip: don't expect seven layers. It comes in a small thick ceramic bowl and was basically beans, guacamole, a tiny bit of corn and some hard cheese on top. Definitely would not recommend it. Way too "beany" and not worth $16 at all. The southwest rolls were decent- very fried tho. Cheesecake Factory's are better ;) The location and dog-friendly atmosphere are great, with the exception of the homeless camp right at their patio entrance, but unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. Hopefully this was just an off night, because Big Lug has a lot going for it.

I honestly didn't know what to expect other than I knew it was healthy food options. Parking is tough. I had to park a bit away during lunch time because their little section is pretty small and it was packed, so I parked over by Whole Foods and walked over. Not a big deal just something to be aware of, and if you are lucky enough to find a spot near them, it's tight getting in and out so just a side note. Upon walking in it was a pretty long line but again it was lunch time (around noon), so no issues. You order at and then get a number and find a place to sit. They have options to sit inside and out. We decided to sit outside since it was a nice day. The food came pretty quickly which was nice since it was lunch time. I ordered a kale salad which was amazing. The only thing I have tried here that I didn't care for was the Mother Earth Bowl. When I ordered it the employee mentioned that it was their most popular item, but I thought the greens were very bitter and the dressing didn't complement the vegetables. But apparently everyone else loves it. The parking lot was congested each time I have been here. Traffic flow is difficult so next time I will park farther away and walk rather than navigate the small lot in front of the restaurant.

I fully accept that this is a safe space for bourbon people and whiskey people. (I know: Bourbon is a type of whiskey! Just go with me here.) They have a literal wall of bourbon at The Broken Barrel. Pro tip: Look at the menu and see what they offer, but then walk up to the bar and look at the wall of whiskey and bourbon, and see what they have available that day. What they have available and what's on the menu can vary. You might see some goodies on the wall that aren't listed on the menu. If I'm not drinking wine, then I'm drinking gin. Luckily for me, there was a gin drink on the menu, so I got that: The New Gatsby, which is Hendrick's gin, St. Germain, cherry and lime, served in a tall glass with lots of ice. It was refreshing, but I kind of wish it had more gin in it! It was very sweet and light, and the perfect beverage for someone who likes light, sweet drinks. A dirty martini was also ordered, which is vodka, olive juice and bleu-cheese-stuffed olives. They make a dang good dirty martini here! It's like drinking a salty salad in a glass, if you're into that sort of thing. The Broken Barrel is a dark, cozy space, and a good place to get a drink. Keep in mind that it's 21+, so adults only!
