Came into Nashville and needed a PIECE of Bday cake. I didn't realize that she only sold full cakes. When I peaked inside and realized that it was a large order bakery, I turned to go. As I did, a woman from the inside (that I can only assume was Anne) waved me in. I apologized telling her the situation and the misunderstanding. She quickly went back and grabbed an almond cake muffin and handed it to me. It was delicious and she 1 million percent did not have to do that. I have loved Anne's Cakes for years and just didn't know it! We love the cakes at Southside grill and Thistle farms, and it wasn't until I realized they were outsourcing their cakes that I asked and found out that the cakes I love to get (even for special occasions) were Anne's cakes. We stopped in today for an after school treat and left with a gorgeous almond cake and a few muffins. Anne even gave my 3 year old a bag of sprinkles! I need to go to the gym a few extra times this week, but enjoying one of these incredible, decadent but light and fluffy cakes is completely worth it. I want to start by saying, Anne is one of the most genuinely nice people I've come across. This immediately made me want to come back, and then there's the fact that she makes some of the most delicious desserts I've come across. I first tried one of her desserts when visiting a local coffee shop. What caught my eye is that the muffin was labeled as "skinny" and also that it was lemon. Yum! I flipped it over and looked at the ingredients. All things I could identify and pronounce, always a plus for me. Anyway, I purchase this muffin and it was so deliciously good and moist. You'd never know the substitutions. Fast forward, my sweet boyfriend had a birthday recently, and I really wanted to get him a nice cake. I read the reviews for Anne's and realized these were from the same place of the delicious muffins I keep purchasing. He originally asked for lemon but I kept reading "best strawberry cake". We both love strawberry and honestly hadn't found a bakery that makes a great Strawberry cake in nashville (until now). They use fresh strawberries. No preservatives. It's a light pink color. Always a good sign! So I brought the cake into his work. Everyone literally said it was the best cake they'd ever had. And I agree. I'll definitely keep Anne as my go to baker! My husband and I recently dined at Sperry's and were offered this dessert by management.. it was a strawberry cake with strawberry frosting. I will be honest, never in a million years would that be something within the realm of what I would think to order myself, so I am thankful that a slice of this cake just magically appeared on our table. Honestly people, this is the best cake I have had in a really long time. I'm from Europe and sadly find myself a bit disappointed with baked goods here, not that ours is "better"per say, it is just all about what you grow up with. That being said; this strawberry cake may be the best cake I have ever had, here and there, period! The cake itself was very moist, had little specs of strawberry throughout and eventhough it was moist it was not dense at all; it is like a moist, fluffy strawberry cloud. There was a sweet strawberry frosting in-between each layer and surrounding the cake.. The flavor was all real, none of that terrible neon pink Pillsbury from a can, stuff. I really want a slice right now. Now I am really curious about the coconut cake, too.. since everybody says it is dreamy. The muffins are good - particularly the pumpkin and chocolate chip variety - but it's the amazingly friendly service that blew us away. The proprietor (Anne, I presume) is the sweetest and most welcoming Nashvillian we've met in a while - and that's saying something. Do keep in mind that Anne's primarily sells products wholesale to cafes and restaurants. So while you *can* buy individual muffins, you cannot buy a single slice of cake - just an entire cake or pie. So throw a party or invite over six of your closest friends. It's a great excuse to buy a cheesecake. :-) read more

I've never visited the acutal bakery, but I cannot count the number of mornings I've started with one of her muffins and a cup of coffee at Sam and Zoe's. (Although the last time I was there I didn't see them, sad face) I still swear the pumpkin chip muffin helped me get through the GRE test prep. It's hard to miss the muffins when you enter a local shop in town. You'll see them clustered together lovingly, with plastic wrap, and the stickers I swear I can see across the store. A birthday with a whole cake from Anne's Cakes is a GREAT birthday, and well worth the slightly incremental price for this versus a grocery store cake or other bakery. Super friendly, super nice, when picking up cakes I've heard nothing but raves from other patrons doing the same and swearing by the many other flavors, so I think I can safely say there's no way to go wrong here.
