This is clear homemade ice cream and family owned !!! They take cash . My milkshake was so amazing!!! I also got a snickerdoodle cookie that was bigger than my head !!! Support local !!! Ambiance was great and family run . Run do not walk to try this place !!
If you know me, you know- ICE CREAM is my dessert of choice and Mattheessen's did not disappoint. Literally 2 ice cream shops within a few feet away but the massive cookies on the display window in front stole the show. Immediately walking in I had to try one of their giant cookies. Easily shareable with 3-4 people. I liked the fact that you can get them room temperature or warmed up. We bought two swoops of ice cream to make it a full combination and boy was the banana ice cream flavored scoop with a chocolate chip melted cookie a spectacular. Very clean shop and plenty of people stopping by to choose between both or one do the desserts. Nicely located in a busy street in Nashville with a lot of foot traffic for shopping and drinking in the area. Would definitely come back again and try the other variety of cookies they sell.
Huge cookie! This was a cool place I found out in Nashville and had to stop by. The cookie is huge and one cookie could feed 2-3 people. We got the chocolate chip and it was great! I highly recommend!
Great ice cream and friendly people! Love their employee shirts as well which gave us a laugh. We were quite tempted by the giant cookies, but will save that for next time!

1/2 pound cookies??!! and they taste delicious!!! I am always skeptical about bakery cookies as they always look better than they taste, but that was not the case at Mattheessen's-they taste every bit as good as they look, if not better. The service is friendly and helpful. The store is adorably decorated and welcoming. The Peanut Butter Fancy is very good & quite sweet, but the Oatmeal cookie went the fastest-just like Mom makes. The Key Lime pies looked amazing but we just did not have the room for pie after eating the cookies. Something to look forward to on our next visit!
Got the 1/2 lb oatmeal raisin cookie. Ate the whole thing myself. Not embarrassed because I almost got the double oatmeal cream pie. Little Debbie would have been proud. Go get a cookie and live your life.
Ok I have an insatiable seeet tooth, but I'm dealing with it. So I stopped by for the huge cookies and ended up with a shake as well. The staff greeted me as I entered, which I always love and take note of. It's a decent sized shop, with a sweet smell and welcoming vibe. I had a sorinkle cookie that was delicious (perfect mix of ingredients and done ness). The shake was way too watery so I wouldn't get that again.
Date of visit: March 14, 2025 What better day to visit a cookie and ice cream shop than... Pi Day? :-D But in all seriousness, my fellow Yelpers have shouted out Mattheessen's (pronounced Math-a-sons) and they were right. Starting from the very friendly hello we received when we walked in, followed up by the amazing smells of cookies and fudge. These things were only topped by the fantastic treats we had: My husband got the M&M cookie and he loved it--a difficult rave to get out of a critical cookie lover such as him. They offered samples and I went with either Cookie Monster or Candy Bar (I can't remember the name now!) but it was fantastic. Prices are a bit high but take into consideration the location in expensive downtown Nashville and their wonderful hours of operation (open until midnight every night) and you are getting a fair amount for what you pay for.
Ice cream was very good. Very creamy and lots of flavors I got the turtle ice cream with a shot of espresso. The ice cream had plenty of Carmel, fudge, and pecans woven throughout. Perfect late night treat to give an extra pick me up to keep on moving down the strip. The service was very good, friendly, funny, and helpful with ice cream selections. Cute decor, very fun and colorful.

The smell of cookies and sugar snack w you in the face as soon as you step inside. Your mouth starts watering immediately!!! Workers are very helpful, nice, & patient. Their cookies are the size of my face!! They are soft baked (I like crisp cookies) but they are tasty. Hubby also has a Cuban coffee and enjoyed it so much we returned another day. Second trip I had ice cream in a waffle cone. YUM!!!! read more

This 2nd ave place will have a line out the door but it moves quickly service is fast and business is clean with a nice set up inside. Famous for giant cookies you can also pick up fudge, ice cream and other goodies. read more

These cookies are giant and I was here for it! We split a cookie and it's definitely heavy but so tasty. The cookie we got was so moist, chocolatey and sweet. For how much you get, it was worth the price. This was a great stop and I look forward to trying their ice cream the next time we come! read more
Quality/Quantity - Known for their 1/2 lb cookies. See pictures. Too bad today was the only day I did not drink excessively... But you already know that as you are following! So no munchies for me, lol. My daughter could not decide what to get, so sadly we left with nothing. Homemade ice cream. Their key lime pie looked so good! Better yet, there was a key lime pie chocolate dipped and frozen! Sorry, I did not take a picture. Atmosphere - Small local business. Off the beaten path. And sadly for them, excess construction, so little to no walk by traffic. We are the only fools in the area, lol. Open 7 days a week from 9am to midnight. Service - Good, welcoming and patient as my daughter did not know what she wanted. Then she decided she did not want anything... Price - See pictures of menus. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1993 and with your new location here in Nashville. Congrats on your 4+...? locations. read more

A must stop ice cream spot off of Broadway that makes the hands down best homemade ice cream in Nashville. This ice cream spot has the perfect southern charm and warmth to it. Upon entering you see all the enormous cookies, fudge, and baked goods they make. The ice cream counter is closer to the register in the back and oh my are there so many amazing homemade flavors. You can try flavors as well and the staff are extremely friendly and patient. We ordered a butter pecan which was sweet and delicious for a mid day treat in the Nashville sun. I ordered the dulche de leche and apple pie ice cream and it was phenomenal. The dulche de leche was sweet but perfectly balanced with its caramel sauce. The apple pie was absolutely outstanding and if we weren't flying I would've ordered multiple pints to go. It was a blend up apple pie and snickerdoodle cookie dessert. An absolute must stop for a treat when in the Nashville area. read more

I saw this on yelp and made it a point to stop by and try their cookies. Half pound cookies...wow! We got the soft peanut butter cookie topped with peanut butter and chocolate fudge and the oatmeal raisin cookie. Both were yummy but we really thought the peanut butter one absolutely delicious. They are big enough for 4-5 people to share or you can enjoy it over a few days so you don't OD on sugar/calories. The service was quick if you know what you want. They even have an upstairs eating area and a few seats near the entrance to enjoy your cookies, fudge, pies, or ice cream. read more

The ice cream is very good here and they have lots of different flavors! They also have some HUGE 1/2 pound cookies which look amazing! The menu also includes shakes, lemonades, teas, coffee, and pies.. The employees were polite and helpful and the ice cream shop was very clean with a lot of indoor seating. Definitely worth a try especially on a hot day read more

Came here after a night out and wanted something sweet. Chose the gigantic peanut butter cookie with fudge on top. This thing probably has 2000 cals per cookie, and a lot of kudos who can finish the entire thing in one go. It's so good! read more

Stopped in for a sweet treat to end our evening in Nashville. They have a good ice cream selection and GIANT, 1/2 lb cookies in a a convenient location just off Broadway. My husband and I each got a scoop and then split one of the peanut butter fancy cookies. We were happy to see they had a small sitting area upstairs where we could enjoy our treats before walking back to our hotel. We couldn't finish the massive cookie, but it was even better the next morning for breakfast! Service was kind, friendly, and quick! read more

Dropped in for a huge cookie and warmth on a cool night. The employees were making a fresh batch of fudge or something and it smelled so good! They have a few stools at the window so it was fun to people watch while eating our warm cookies. Definitely stop in! read more
