After eating at Anmol many times and trying several things on their menu, I finally feel confident in giving this place 5 stars.
First and foremost, the food is fantastic. Just honest food that is accurately described on the menu, and prepared correctly every time. I have never once detected a lack of freshness. The food comes out quick, but not "this has been waiting for you to order it all day" quick, if ya dig.
The menu is nice. Organized somewhat awkwardly, but it's easy enough to navigate. Any dish that is inherently hot and spicy is marked as such.
Spiciness is where Anmol really shines. Whether you are timid about hotness or want the chef to make you cry, Anmol can do it. For any type of curry-based dish, they serve it mild, medium, or hot. Mild is seasoned, but not hot. Medium is seasoned and somewhat spicy, but nothing crazy. Hot is what it sounds like: a nice kick and a great reason to order an extra beer or cocktail to wash it down.
Service at Anmol is adequate. The staff seats you immediately and brings over water, papadum, and three different sauces for the papadum. Honestly, someone with a small stomach could probably fill up just on what Anmol gives you for free. Water comes steady, which is always nice. The only downside here is that the waiters sometimes do hover. Also, one of them looks like he should have Indiana Jones' still-beating heart in his hand. Jokes aside, there is nothing rude or unprofessional about the waiters at Anmol.
The bar is solid. I'm not a wine guy, so I can't speak on what they have. Beer selection is slightly above average. Guinness, Harpoon, UFO, Sam, Sam Seasonal, PBR ($2!) and others are on tap. They have some Indian-type beers and most standards in bottles. Not a destination spot for beer, but not a place void of anything drinkable. Mixed drinks are fine, but the fancier you get, the more likely you are to strike out. Jack and Coke? No problem. Chocolate martini? Maybe not...
Aesthetics. Simple design. A dozen or so booths and another large dining room with many tables. The lighting is on the dim side, but not too dark at all. The whole joint is very clean. Drive by some time at 10 AM and you're likely to see the waitstaff outside manicuring the grounds. This same cleanliness is present indoors too.
All in all, there isn't a long wrong with Anmol. I have had their naan, garlic naan, chicken pakora, chicken tikka masala, lamb curry, chicken vindaloo and other dishes. I hardly have a favorite because it is all so good. Anmol taught me that I like Indian food. Now that I've been around the block a bit, Anmol taught me that their Indian food is best.
