It's expensive ($34.99) for the Premium Angus beef, but the flavor is just so worth it. Service is fast and efficient. Located in the corner of a strip mall in Koreatown, it is very difficult to find street parking nearby, so I usually opt to pay $5 cash to do the valet parking in the parking lot of this strip mall. On our latest visit we took the Metro, exited at Wilshire/Normandie Station, and walked 8 minutes over. The restaurant seems to have updated their décor to a more modern and new look since my last visit. Also they have introduced a lot of new menu items, so it felt like an appropriate time to update my review and renew my support for the business. On prior visits I have tried both the Clam Kalguksu ($22.99) and the Chicken Kalguksu ($22.99). Both are delicious depending on what protein you are craving. The broth is incredible soothing and great for a cold day or just anytime you need comfort food. The noodles are chewy and pillowy soft, it just melts in your mouth. When we arrived on our latest visit it was as busy and popular as I remembered. We were lucky that they were able to seat us right away. This latest visit my boyfriend and I tried new items from their menu. My boyfriend had the Tokmanuguk ($20.99) which has rice cakes, dumplings, beef, egg, and carrot in their anchovy broth. I had the Chicken Jook ($23.99) which is the Korean version of a chicken porridge that comes with half a small chicken, green onions, garlic, toasted sesame seeds, squash, onions and topped off with a smidge of sesame oil. Our meals came with a little palette cleansing introduction of barley rice. Just a few bites, but it sets up your tastebuds for the meal. They also had some side dishes for the table. The food took a while to come out, but understandable for how busy they are. This food is made with love and your patience will be rewarded. When it came, it was SO DELICIOUS! I tried a bit of my boyfriend's food and it was so comforting. Perfect for those who like the chewiness of the Korean rice cakes or dumplings. I just love my chicken porridge a little more cause I'm obsessed with porridge whenever I can get it. I love how much vegetables Koreans are able to hide in their porridge while making the veggies so tiny, you won't even notice it. So healthy, delicious, and soothing. It was like a hug for my soul. Also, the portion was huge and both my boyfriend and I had a portion togo that was the size of another meal. You can't go wrong with their food here. I definitely want to make an effort to come back more often. Until next time!

Annie's can take the crown for BEST Soul Food in LA…read more This restaurant is always extremely busy & now I can finally understand why. The level of authenticity can be felt the moment you walk in. Every patron of the restaurant can be seen expressively enjoying their food. When you order a main protein, it comes with your choice of three sides & ofc their famous cornbread muffins. All the food is insanely filling so prepare to take home leftovers. * Beef Links 10/10: A massive, spicy beef sausage on top of a soft & fresh slice of white bread. It can't get any better. It stayed hot throughout my meal & was appreciated so much. That is f***g good. * Cornbread muffins 10/10: DELICIOUSLY served as an appetizer before your meal comes out. Comes fresh & hot with a side of sweet/cinnamon butter. It's perfect. * 8 Pc Wings 10/10: Seriously the best wings I've ever had in my life. Soul food restaurants know exactly how to coat the wings so that they become insanely crispy when fried. That aside, the Hot Honey seasoning was especially flavorful & mouthwatering. *Mac n Cheese 9/10: This is my style Mac. Not too ooey-gooey wet but just a perfect amount of cheese & roux. One point off because it has a smokey taste which just isn't my preference. * Candied Yams 11/10: MY GAWWWD. I'm in heaven. If you like very sweet potato's paired with a perfect buttery cinnamon dressing, then step right up. These are insane. I'm obsessed with that type of thing. *Greens w Turkey 3/10: Was not the biggest fan of this side. The flavor of the turkey overpowered the whole dish. The greens clearly basked with the turkey rather than just being placed together. I couldn't taste the greens, just meat flavoring. * Cabbage 7/10: I love cabbage. This side isn't anything crazy, it's a very simple thing for you to pair with whatever you ordered. Every meal needs one side that rlly holds it down. *Fried Okra 12/10: Seriously, you cannot get soul food without trying fried okra. This is just amazing. Perfectly crispy & delicious.

Everything always from scratch. Everything. We had a table of 6, celebrating niece going back to Spelman College for her junior year. We ordered a ton of food. Each meal comes with three sides. Portions are generous. I had the salmon croquettes, black eyed peas, red beans, and rice & gravy (to go w my croqs) The red beans and the black eyed peas, were delicious. Cooked perfectly, seasoned really well, and the right amount of liquid base. I also had a bit of my mom's greens--and they were GOOD!!! BUT! Not so fast (in my Columbo voice). The salmon croquettes, were not croquetting. There was no flavor. None. Except for the natural salmon taste. The patties were too thick, there was no discernible seasoning, and no onion or green peppers at all. It was like eating a salmon burger, as opposed to a croquette. AND I LOOOOOVE CROQUETTES. Mom's pork chop was okay at best. It didn't taste like anything, was a lil over cooked and a tad tough. But lacked seasoning. Nephew's catfish was tasty. Aunt said her short ribs were good. Niece had wings and shrimp combo, and said they were okay, not great. Peach cobbler was good. Yams too soupy. Dressing was so drowned in gravy, we forgot it was dressing. So, mixed day at Annies. We had issues with the proteins. The veggies and legumes were deliciously spot on. I commented that if I ever end up back, I'll just get red beans, black eyeds, and some greens. Soul food has to be seasoned well. Has to. Croquettes have to have onions, green peppers, or is just a salmon patty. I took a pic of my leftovers. The meal started w 3 croqs. I ate one there. Broke this one open to show y'all the MEH-ness. Oh! GREAT STAFF! Everyone was awesome. I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars, overall. Halfway there.

This location was the perfect halfway point for all of us. We arrived bright and early around 9:30 AM on a Wednesday. I had called ahead to reserve a booth, my absolute favorite kind of seating. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly hostess and immediately seated. Our server (I unfortunately forgot his name!) was fantastic. He brought out fresh coffee right away, took our breakfast orders, and was extremely kind, polite, and attentive throughout our entire meal. The menu has plenty of options, ranging from scratch-made omelettes and burritos to salads and a dedicated kids' menu. The Breakfast Plate Specials ($12-$14) Both my cousin and aunts ordered this. It came loaded with pancakes, hashbrowns, sausage, and toast--an absolute steal for the price~ Turkey Club Sandwich & Fries: I was in the mood for lunch, so I opted for the club. The fries were hot and perfectly crispy. The sandwich itself was wonderful, packed with turkey, bacon, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. My only tiny critique is that I wish it came with mayo (I'm a huge mayo fan!). However, I ordered a side of ranch which paired perfectly and really elevated the sandwich. The vibe here is incredibly laid-back, welcoming, and brightly lit. Everything--including the restrooms--was sparkling clean. They had TVs playing a local soccer game and a nice bar area where it looks like they serve up a great selection of beer and wine for happy hour. I didn't grab an alcoholic drink this time, but I already have my eye on a cranberry mimosa for my next visit! Before you leave, make sure to check out the front counter--they have a massive display of freshly baked cookies, pies, and other goodies~ For the price, the food is absolutely worth it and the service is top-notch. Thank you so much, Dinah's Comfort Kitchen--we will definitely be back when we're in the area again!

I highly recommend this chain location and can vouch for the food and service!!! Is the hype warranted? an astounding YES! I looked into the secret menu and got to try the Mario Fries, Lou's Chicken Sandwich, Quarter Chicken Breast with all their sauces, and Banana Pudding! The staff was lovely and I met Matt, the manager. I was greeted with an excited and hyped staff. They were kind and welcoming. Food came pippin' hot and the first bite of the quarter chicken breast was everything- juicy, smoky, spicy, and filled with seasoning! I heard comparisons between this chain and others and finally understood the difference: the chicken is at the forefront along with different layers of flavor that are in the sandwich! Think of Dave's Hot Chicken but meatier , juicier, and much flavorful. Everything is elevated with subtle sophistication- the slaw, all the sauces, and breading. It seemed all curated individually for your meal. For comparison, it is like getting a pastry at your local bakery vs. at a patisserie in Paris, FR. It's the same dessert but one is much better, especially if you pay attention to the subtleties. If you want to taste Howling Ray's in one dish, this would be it! The other dishes were also delightful, the Lou's sandwich had waffles as the buns with powdered sugar and syrup on top; imagine smoky, savory, with fulfilling sweetness. The banana pudding was also wonderful; not to sweet but subtle flavors with high quality ingredients. The Mario's fries are the ultimate chicken loaded fries and would have you full and fulfilled. Everything was of great. You are paying for quality and you will not regret it, especially if you like flavors and spicy. There is a reason that there is a line even before this restaurant opens. Not only would I recommend this place, I recommend bringing a crew so you can share the experience together. I am now a fan and I will be back and will bringing others with me.

However no one greeted us when we walked in so we just stood at the front for about 15 mins. (No exaggeration) with about 10 other people all standing around not knowing what to do or where to go. I walked up to the bar to talk to an employee and said we had a reservation at 8 and they said okay but then didn't seat us. It was about 8:30pm when I took it upon myself to seat us at the bar ourselves. We ordered. The food was pretty good. The veggie lasagna was just cheese and tomato sauce I was hoping for zucchini or some form of veggies in it but there weren't any. It was fun coz you could watch the chef prepare the food however he was picking it all up with his bare hands and we are pretty sure he was getting burnt a lot haha he seemed very sweet and friendly. I'm not sure if I would return to the restaurant. The impact wasn't really incredible. The rest of my party was not into it at all. We did have fun tho.

If you have a minute, I'd like to share a story:…read more I've been meaning to try this place for years, ever since I read their opening in the LA Times. In the article, they mentioned that they had a sandwhich in homage to Pok Pok, a legendary Thai place in Portland that was famous for their fish sauce chicken wings. Unfortunately, this sandwhich was only offered on the weekday lunch menu, which stymied my efforts to try it. In my mind, what I was expecting was a piece of fried chicken coated in the same sauce that Pok Pok was known for, turned into sandwhich form. The "Bring back pok pok" is not that. Which was a disappointment for all of 10 seconds. While the sandwhich was not what I was expecting, it was still excellent on its own merits. It's a fried chicken sandwhich but instead of lettuce and tomatoes, they've used some sort of dried pepper spread, thai basil (I think) and jalopenos). It reminded me more of a bahn mi. It's a flavor profile that works well. I tried a piece of my friends fried catfish, and it was similarly good. The catish was flaky without being dry, and not only was the breading well seasoned, but it was still crispy at the end of the meal. The only thing a little underwhelming was the cornbread. It wasn't bad, but it didn't feel like it did anything noteworthy, and ours could have used a bit more butter (or maybe some more salt). Our server was great, though it was easy for him since we were the only customers for a long while! Still he was easy to talk to and I appreciated how he kept stopping by to fill up our water (they use tiny glasses). The inside has nice "upscale casual" vibes. If I worked in downtown, I could see myself coming here after work. Overall, a pleasant surprise.
