There's hardly anything in these bowls. Service is friendly and fast. The place is super dark inside which was kind of strange, but that's what they're going for. Felt like a fancified pub in Ireland with newspaper and comic books plastering the walls, except instead of drinking Guinness you're slurping a handful of noodles and bone broth. Now the actual dishes were tasty, I can't deny that, but again it is just ramen in the end. I could've made a pack of Shin Black at home with a little onion or an egg thrown into it and had an equal experience for fraction of the cost. It's not something so complex that you're better off enjoying it made by professionals, in fact it's quite the opposite so maybe that's my bigger criticism. A tale of inconsistency and lack of accountability. A week or so back my family and I ordered from Ani Ramen House in Summit NJ. On this occasion we were delighted to receive excellent food. So it was not even a question that we would order again soon. However, this evening we ordered from Ani Ramen in Summit NJ and we had quite a disappointing experience. For starters my wife and daughter ordered a vegan ramen bowl and it came without broth. Both my wife and I called the restaurant and were unable to speak with a person, we could only leave a message. I understand mistakes happen, I just wish there was a person available to either provide us with the broth, or refund our purchase. This meal was made somewhat edible by microwaving some vegetable stock we had at home. Next, my meal of shrimp panko rice was lukewarm. The shrimp seemed like pre breaded shrimp from the freezer section at a supermarket, and they only give you four tiny shrimp. The vegetables were supposed to be pickled somewhere, some were not. I was looking for a ramen place in New Jersey for some time now. I finally was able to try this place for take out and have to say it was delicious. I loved how everything was packaged nicely for takeout so nothing would spill or get soggy. I ordered the spicy miso ramen and edamame. I added eggs and tofu to my ramen. His had a must more authentic taste and I would highly recommend trying that one if youre able to stop by. Let me start this by saying I'm arguably Ani Ramen's biggest fan. I've gone to a number of their locations but Summit is the best and most convenient. Their food and service are TOP notch I highly recommend the spicy miso ramen, but only after starting with the pork buns (okay let's be real, ANY of the buns are delicious) and the special wings. Their food is fresh and unlike any other ramen place. In the RARE chance that something was messed up, they go above and beyond to make it right. Big fan of this location. There's a huge parking lot in the back. It's easy to get a table also unlike their Jersey City and Montclair locations. One time, I ordered with my friend and we both didn't feel great after. But not sure if it was the wine or the ramen. I need the first line of this review to be how surprised I am that this restaurant is in Summit lol I need y'all to understand how incredibly and pleasantly surprised I was that a ramen shop that plays hip hop music that I'm sure 90% of the demographic there doesn't even know exists in this part of NJ. But the servers did a pretty good job of turning over tables and getting people seated as quickly as possible. I ordered the special Korean fried wings, edamame, shrimp bun, Ani ramen, and spicy miso ramen. The menu was a little pricer than most ramen spots but I guess for the area it was average. I'm sad they're not a permanent part of the menu because the sauce was delicious and the wings were perfectly fried.The edamame wasn't served like the typical steamed and salted dish. It was pan seared and had a smoked flavor, making it unique. The shrimp bun was delicious. The sweetness from the bun really paired nicely with the crispy/salty shrimp and pickled veggies. I could eat these and the wings alone as a meal and be satisfied honestly. Now for the ramen...I absolutely loved the spicy miso ramen. The spice was not over bearing and I did add a good amount of chili oil to kick it up but I liked that. Sometimes spicy ramen can get carried away, I felt like this was a happy medium and it was NOT too salty. AMEN. I did wish there were more toppings inside of it though other than the spinach and bean sprouts. I really love bamboo shoots it mushrooms in my ramen. The egg also was not marinated as long as I would've loved. It tasted like a plain boiled egg. The Ani ramen was yummy too, surprisingly a little bland which was a first for me. For me, the broth is an integral part of ramen so it was really disappointing. I normally order my ramen with an extra egg so I was shocked to find out that each bowl of ramen doesn't already come with half an egg...that's a huge no-no! I opted for the trademark "Ani Ramen", comprised of Berkshire pork bone broth, shoyu tare, chashu pork, kakuni, spinach, kikurage, scallions and added deep fried tofu and a soft boiled egg, while my dining companion opted for the "Vegan", comprised of vegetable broth, sesame shoyu tare, roasted vegetables, spinach, enoki mushrooms, scallions and roasted chili oil and added the deep-fried marinated chicken thigh meat. Ani Ramen's food is just blah.. $14-$18 bowl of ramen without having the superior broth base as top ramen places in NYC or elsewhere. It just taste like they threw a few billion cubes in hot water and called it a day. The Ani ramen and Special short rib ramen were both food court level taste. The gyoza was downright terrible and it taste like it came out of a frozen package and then hastily pan fried. The bao buns were decent, hence the 2 stars. I wouldn't come here unless this is the only ramen place near you and you need a quick ramen fix. Even then, I might prefer instant ramen! I was very excited to try this place. I haven't had Ramen in a while because I couldn't find a good place. Ani Ramen is awesome! The Ramen is so flavorful and so many options but a bit pricey at $16+. I opted to get number 1 and add the panko shrimp and my friend got the short rib one (not my favorite but the short rib was very tender). I wish I could eat it a little slower lol but it was very filling. I also tried the crispy gyoza. Also really good but I preferred to dip it in my ramen broth than the sauce that accompanied it. I met Ani before, like 10 Exits ago. I got a bit excited when a friend who lives a couple of blocks away announced their soft opening. The Ramen here was quite good, hence, their crowd following. They have excellent noodles and their Chasu Pork was the perfect cut. I am more tickled with their Japanese cucumber and I can't wait to try their tsukemono served all together with chicken wings; that would be a good trio, before diving into Spicy Miso Ramen. And drop that Umami Bomb for an explosion of a certain "je ne sois quoi..., but it's really good". It's also nice that they carry Ramune. Good! The appetizers and sides are what shine here. Shoyu Ramen: the #1 with chicken broth and an added egg. The chicken broth was more watery than a pork broth which was a little more thick and cloudy. The pork portion was plentiful and tasty. The noodles were good too. The egg costs extra but is worth it. The flavor was spot on, but the yolk was too soft and runny for my personal preference though. The appetizers and sides were very good! The Shishito Peppers had a great char/blistering and the accompanying miso yuzu sauce was terrific and interesting. The Pork Belly Bao was really good too. The spicy miso sauce and the cook of the meat was super duper. The Edamame was solid. The chili char was thumbs up. Would definitely get all of the apps again. This location is definitely bigger than the one in Montclair. Food was delicious! The Ani Ramen #6 has a different ramen noodle than the other ones. It's slightly chewier, more al dente textures. I like both types of noodles really. Broth is divine. Egg was always cooked perfectly! We ordered Pork and Shrimp Bao buns, edemame and Japanese cucumber. All were delicious. We couldn't stop picking at it, especially the cucumber. It has a spicy and sweet taste, which I am obsessed with. Staff was really nice here. I do believe this location allows you to take to-go containers, coz the Montclair location didn't. Went there on my lunch today, I work in town so I only have an hour, Service was fast. I probably could've been there maybe 20 minutes but I eat slow and I was on my phone so I was there most of my lunch. Honestly, not a huge fan of Ramen so I went there more to try the side dishes. I usually go to Inspiration Roll for those and they are much larger. But the flavors were still really good. $9 seemed like much was a bit more gourmet. Very good! Chicken wings: So delishes! I honestly wish there were more. I honestly was surprised by the small portion or I should say what I consider a small portion. I got 5 pieces and my only biggest disappointment was I got 2 of the seven spice dry rub, which I never had before and absolutely loved! And I got 3 of the sake soy glaze... I had came to Ani Ramen during their soft opening. I definitely recommend hitting up this small, cozy ramen shop in Summit. Ani Ramen's broth is a lighter broth compared to others which, personally I usually wouldn't favor in comparison to thicker broths, but Ani Ramen's bowl definitely does a great job overall. I ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen. The texture and flavor of the ramen are delicious, and the heat from the Spicy Miso doesn't overpower the umami. The size of the ramen bowl is also the perfect amount. If you choose to order a bowl alone, you'll leave satisfied. Their pork buns are DELICIOUS, and a must-try for sure. Baos are one of my favorite food, and Ani Ramen does a great job with theirs. When we walked in on a Friday evening, my first thought was "chaos." The tables and seating are fairly close to each other so you're almost sitting with people you don't know. The atmosphere is somewhat loud, as everyone talking appears to be in conversation. Contemporary music was playing in the background but you really cannot hear it above the restaurant chatter. I ordered a shrimp rice bowl and shrimp bao buns which came out fairly quickly. On the other hand, the rest of my party ordered the noodles which took longer then one would expect. My son joked that packaged ramen noodles take literally 3 minutes to prepare so why would the order take excess of 20 minutes :-) When their order came out, it smelled soooooo good and they confirmed bite after bite that it tasted even better. Well worth the wait. All in all. I'm super-pleased with my visit to Ani Ramen. This is not an OUTSTANDING 5 stars, but a "they did a pretty damn good job" 5 stars. The ramen was super delicious. I got the spicy miso with an egg (ajitama) and the umami bomb. It has everything you need for a satisfying ramen experience: comes out very hot, has a good portion of noodles to broth, the noodles are slightly chewy and not mushy, the FLAVOR of the broth is great (especially with that umami bomb), the egg is perfectly made, and the pork melts in your mouth.
