My favorite ramen in New Jersey! My boyfriend and I have been coming here for years because of the incredible food and wonderful staff. We usually dine in, and we see a steady influx of to-go orders being picked up. There are plenty of tables on a week night. We love their spring rolls, perfectly crisp and warm. My typical order is the Queen ramen because of how tender and flavorful the pork is, but recently I've been loving the Chicken Coconut Green Curry ramen- perfectly spicy! My boyfriend's standard order is the Spicy Miso ramen, but he asks for pork instead of chicken. The pork is just too good! Their brown sugar milk tea is just sweet enough, and we look forward to having it after every meal. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! read more

Tried Queen ramen, coconut curry soup, chicken teriyaki and gyoza. I'm used to traditional tonkatsu living in San Francisco. This was not traditional. The broth was very bland with little to no "mouthfeel." The gyoza was excellent. Crispy on one side and delicate skin on the other with a nice fresh and flavorful filling. The chicken teriyaki was ok. I was expecting the chicken to have some grill marks on it. Seemed like it was just steamed, cut into strips and teriyaki sauce drizzled on top. The food was terrible. The shumai tasted like rubber... The tea was the only good thing. I also don't think they like black people because they never greeted me but greeted other white people. Also, when I first went there. I asked what would they recommend since it was my first time there. I am not sure why there isn't a flood of people going to this hidden gem every day. Their pork buns are so incredibly yummy! We tried about 5-6 places within 45 min, and these are hands down the best. For us having less fat & more pork is a big deal. The sauce is so sweet & delicious! We like the ramen bowls so much. I also LOVE the Oyako rice bowls - I think they make it with a piece of heaven & it is blessed by an angel. As if that isn't enough, their wide assortment of bubble teas is good for a restaurant (as opposed to a bubble tea store). Their Thai ice tea is my fav, but my kids get all different kinds & with boba or lychee. They folks who work here seem to love & enjoy what they do. These guys are always going above and beyond! Great food and a concise menu. It's enough to have variety if you want to switch things up a bit, but you always have your go-to's! Average size eating space inside or take to go. We have done both on more than one occasion. They cater to you very well in the restaurant itself. It's usually quieter there. When you order to go, it is always set up well so that once you get home, you only need a few seconds to set everything up. read more

I decide to go there because I was around the area.. this is a cute little place in a corner away from the center of town.. At first I was worried about parking, but they do have a little parking lot at the back of the building.. the store is not big, so probably can't do big parties.. but it's clean and neat, and the lady behind the desk is very courteous.. food came out very quickly, I wonder if it's because I was there right at 12, because they do get busier as the time passed! And the food is yummy!! I would want my noodle to be a little more "salty", but that's just for me.. katsu was crunchy, but next time I would ask for put the sauce in the side (just my preference) and the Thai ice tea is ok.. I guess because I have had really good one before and my expectation is way too way.. it's good, but not what I expected.. overall it's a good meal!! Ordered a delivery during a work week with very low expectations, as my Ramen standards are way high especially after having Ramen in Ippudo NYC, and other happening Ramen places in NJ. I went with recommendations from fellow yelpers and was pleasantly surprised with what I got. A chili lime ramen that I shared as well as Tako yaki a savory deep fried yummy appetizers a must have. I ordered the Traditional Tonkotsu Shio Ramen for takeout with high expectations since the reviews are great. However, I unfortunately thought this ramen was mediocre at best. The pork lacked flavor and was dry, the broth was alright (I agree with the other reviews that it's nice the broth isn't too salty). I think a spicy option for this may have brought out a deeper flavor. My favorite part of the whole bowl was the Soy Egg. I wish I could've left a higher review, but of all the ramen I've tried, this one let me down. The service was speedy, the staff was kind, and my food was still warm when I took it out of the container. We came here for a late lunch. It's a simple restaurant with awesome food! The server doesn't hover and the food and drinks came out quick. I was concerned that I wouldn't find very good asian food around the Summit area because of the lack of diversity so far but I was pleasantly surprised. Now, don't get me wrong, this is not your Michelin star fare. It is more like your every day, somewhat Americanized Japanese food. But honestly, it really hits the spot. The portions are generous and the prices are fair. The place looks cleaned though a bit cluttered and the staff are extremely nice and pleasant to interact with. Located in the corner of the street with a mini parking lot. The place is small but has a home like atmosphere. I should've ordered the ramen, but got the tonkatsu rice instead. Kawa Ramen is a tiny, bare bones mom & pop ramen shop on South St. in New Providence, down the street from Barth's Market, where I've been buying most of my meat for years. I'm all for supporting small, struggling local businesses (if they are good). Kawa has an appealing menu of ramen, donburi bowls, teriyakis, and Japanese curries. I had the "Queen" ramen: pork tonkatsu broth with shoyu, roasted leek and garlic oil, tender sliced roast pork, bamboo shoots, kikurage mushrooms, narutomaki, scallions, and roasted egg ($14.95). There aren't too many ramen places in this area so this is a good spot for some vegan ramen. I'm not usually a fan of fried tofu but it was delicious in this ramen, like little tofu pillows. The scallions, mushrooms, noodles, etc were all great but I really needed some more spice. I took my order to go and wish I had asked for something on the side. Found Kawa via the Hot and New filter on Yelp. Was nice to see a new ramen spot near my home town. All of the broths are homemade using hand slected ingredients focusing on reducing excess. A very welcoming and noticable flavor difference compared to other larger ramen shops. Most importantly was not extremely salty. Every employee here is extremely friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and ingredients. I feel like I barely scratched the surface of this establishment. We decided to try a different Ramen place as we were bored either same old places. We found Kawa Ramen in Berkeley Heights and I'm glad we tried it. Small ramen joint slightly off the main drag but worth the journey. We ordered the Kimchi Beef Ramen which was wonderful. So much flavor and the beef was of an excellent quality. We also had the miso chicken spicy ramen which was similarly yummy. Lastly we got some Shumai as an appetizer and they were great. Definitely ordering from here again. Small lot in back. So a new ramen place opened up in New Providance. Thats correct!!!!....I said New Providance. Who ever thought a Raman place could survive let alone thrive in this desert town of culinary offerings. This place is Awesome!. I would normally drive to Summit and sit curbside at a somewhat trendier Ramen house to get my noodle on. Now I don't have to compete with the moms in their yoga pants and their Prada glasses, I can roll right up to a parking spot. Is this place sexy with street candy to look at? Cute little place. Did take out and love the packaging. We ordered scallion pancakes, shumai, special miso chicken, and Queen. Everything was delicious. The pancake was crispy but not dry. The shumai was good and does not taste like it's frozen. The broth was perfect and not salty and the ramen was perfectly cooked. The chashu in the Queen and chicken in the spicy miso was flavorful. I went in for the ramen but got swayed by the idea of a lunch special bento box. I probably should have stayed on task. The teriyaki was delicious, but the rest of the bento was lackluster. The items were barely lukewarm. No flavor. Seemed to have been a reheated frozen item. Not what I'm looking for from a small, family run business. I placed my order and after my food arrived, no one stopped by to see if my meal was OK or to refill my tea. The restaurant was not jam packed at the time. This is the first time I ordered from Kawa Ramen. I ordered the Chicken teriyaki lunch box, it comes with edamame, rice, miso soup, and a good amount of chicken with broccoli. The chicken was amazing, it was grilled and had the perfect amount of teriyaki glaze. The edamame was perfectly salted, and the rice was just plain white rice but it was not too sticky which I love! The miso soup was very good. I have been to a lot of Japanese restaurants and this is one of the only spots that the miso soup doesn't taste like dish water. I ordered on line which was very easy, and when I went in to pick it up the restaurant was very clean and had a nice atmosphere. I can 100% say I will be coming again! read more
