We were thinking of southern fried chicken and wondering where to get some, when, ta-da--like a clearing in the sky on a dark day--the angels sang and Angry Chikz appeared--and practically in our neighborhood in Ventura. We thought, "What the heck is Angry Chikz?" And walked in ready for anything. First surprise is you get to select your own spice level: Country (no spice); Mild; Medium; Hot; X-Hot; and Angry (need a waiver). My husband and I both went for Medium--and glad we did--because even medium-level of heat does not mess around. (Am unsure if I can handle Hot level, but would like to give it a try next time). The amazing thing--beyond picking your spice level is the texture of the chicken tenders that come out. I am from the south and I make fried chicken, but it IS NOT EASY to make extra-crispy fried chicken. Much less to make extra-crispy chicken breasts (which are often dry inside). Angry Chickz NAILED the extra-crispy crust (and a fine, thin crust it is!) AND the chicken breast tender inside is TENDER. The contrast between the spicy-crispy crust and the tender umami-chicken inside is intoxicating. To add to the fun, the menu options include buttery rice (which I loved!) and cole slaw. Again, being from the south, I can't help but love anywhere that serves rice and cole slaw. Those are my love language! I chose the #4 with rice, cole slaw, two tenders, and pickles (really crisp homemade-tasting pickles--not the rubbery canned kind at all). My husband got the Hangry Fix bowl that is two tenders chopped up, with rice, mac 'n cheese, and slaw. Angry Chickz is likely to become an obsession--it's that great. There is one downside--if you stroll in expecting to stroll out in a few minutes with your food like other fast-food restaurants, you'll be surprised. It does take between 15 and 20 minutes to prepare an order. But the chicken will be hot, HOT, crisp, tender, and delicious. This Ventura location is convenient. And the service was lovely. I was honestly hesitant to try Angry Chickz because it felt like just another version of Dave's Hot Chicken. After visiting, I'd say that comparison is pretty accurate--with a few small differences. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was cleanliness. There was visible trash on the floor, which stood out even more because the place wasn't busy at the time. That's something I think should be addressed, especially during slower hours. I asked the cashier about the menu, and they were friendly and helpful. They explained that it's essentially the same concept as Dave's, just with added options like rice and bowls. Since I wasn't trying to go all in, I ordered a single slider. I placed my order at 4:09 PM and didn't receive it until 4:25 PM. What made this more frustrating was seeing customers who ordered after me get their food first--even though they had larger orders. For a simple item, the wait time and order flow didn't feel efficient. On the positive side, the space itself is solid. There's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, which makes it a good hangout spot if you're dining in. Overall, the experience didn't really win me over. The food concept isn't something I personally gravitate toward, and the execution didn't feel distinct enough to justify choosing it over similar spots. REVIEW: This review is a bit late, and I can't wait to return to see how their service is rolling out. I know that new businesses have some bumps in the beginning, and this Angry Chickz wasn't immune from them, but nothing I experienced was the end of the world. So, it's all good. I ended up receiving the Angry Mac, and it was less than what I expected. But, overall it was edible and separate from the long wait (so many customers!) it was a good-enough meal. I hesitated to stop by Angry Chickz because of poor experiences in other locations but the he day called for it and I obliged the request. The space is nicely revamped and clean, the menu is simple with minimal options which's makes it easy. The ordering process is slow so come with patience it takes time but you know everything is fresh. I ordered individual tenders,three of them that came on a price of Texas toast. It was more food than I expected. The mild spice was perfect to not kill your taste buds and was still enjoyable. I added a drizzle of honey and a little comeback sauce to zing it up and it was spot on and after two tenders I was full!! Not a bad experience looking forward to another visit. read more

My son and I were excited to finally try Angry Chicks in Ventura tonight after seeing all the social media hype and watching their remodel come together. They're conveniently located in Midtown Ventura in the same shopping center as Winco, so we were glad to have something new nearby. The restaurant itself is pretty simple--walk-up counter ordering, about six tables inside, maybe eight outside on the patio, and a soda fountain. The staff was polite, but the interaction felt more scripted than genuine. Not unpleasant, just very basic. The first thing we were told was that they don't accept cash, though I'm not sure if that's always the case or just because it was after 9 PM. We ordered a chicken slider meal to share. For two sliders, fries, and a soda it came out to just over $20, which felt really steep--especially when one meal alone is around $17-$18 before a drink. For counter service where you seat yourself, that pricing doesn't add up in my opinion. As for the food--it was just OK. We tried one "hot" and one "medium" slider, but there wasn't much difference between the two. The chicken didn't fully cover the bun, so half the sandwich was just slaw with no chicken. The fries were heavily seasoned--too much for me, but my son enjoyed them. Overall, nothing really stood out. The food was just OK, the service was just OK, the décor was just OK. I've never been to an Angry Chickz location before. I only noticed this location while running errands nearby, and a huge line had formed as I guess it officially opened on Friday (or recently). So, I figured it was time to see all the "hot" gossip about this place. First, when I got in line, there were only about two families in front of us. Although I had already looked at the menu beforehand, a staff member stood outside with the menu in her hands so we could look at it. We ordered the number three, which came with a slider, Texas toast and chicken tenders on top plus fries. We also ordered the Angry Mac with fries, Mac n cheese, and chicken tenders in a bowl. The sauce we requested was mild. We sat at one of the bars, overlooking the side patio. The servers were constantly cleaning, so all the available tables were already clean. The waiting time for food took only 10 minutes. Everything came out hot, fresh, and smelling fine. I rarely like any hints of spice, but since my husband requested mild sauce, I had to try it. It was too hot for me, and I was grateful for my cup of water. For him, it was too hot, too. But the chicken tenders were crunchy, well-seasoned, and scrumptious. The Texas toast with the chicken tenders and pickles added a tasty and unique flavor that made me finish the half sandwich in minutes. The fries were well-seasoned, and I couldn't keep my hands off them. My favorite food was the Angry Mac. Seasoned fries, Mac' n cheese, and chicken tenders in a bowl with the sauce of your choice made for an appetizing meal. I would order this next time with the country (no spice) sauce, as it was my favorite food ordered. The slider was a misnomer. I'm surprised by the fairly low ratings for a new "viral trend" Hot Chicken style place. My review is based on 1 order. Angry C. doesn't have an app or any promos that I saw, but you can order online for pickup. I ordered a French fry bowl. Almost any combo (not including a drink), sandwich or bowl here tends to be $15/16 and higher, so prices tend to be higher than fried chicken you can get at Popeyes, Raising Cane, ChickFilA or KFC, but generally comparable to any other trendy "Hot Chicken" place. I went to pick up before 5pm, so there wasn't much of crowd. My order was available when I arrived, but they want to see your receipt order from your email. I guess that is a good safety check and not just rely on saying your "name" I thought the overall taste was good, BUT I could tell my chicken and fries were not freshly cooked. In a bowl that has sauce, can kind of get away with serving slightly drier chicken and fries, BUT I can still taste and feel the texture difference; I also did not detect any heat spice level (medium). For me, fried chicken strips etc. rely soley on how fresh was your order fried. If any chicken breast strip has been sitting under warmer for some time, it will dry out, that's just food science. Never again!!!!!!! This crap was extremely hot, mind you I requested my chicken to be mild which is the weakest of the spectrum of heat that they have. I bought another sandwich which was medium for someone else and they said my mild chicken was way spicier than their medium which supposed to be higher than mine! I gave it back so they can correct the wrong yet they had me waiting there for something that should've taken no more than 6 mins ( put butter and place face down on skillet) took about 12 mins if not more. Then the cook keeps putting other peoples food together while I'm waiting for my toast and my food is getting cold. The lack of urgency in this place is something to reevaluate if I were the owner. Wow. Now I understand the low ratings. My husband and I ordered online for pickup. In addition to a slider and a side of mac & cheese, he ordered the 4 Tenders from the catering section. The description clearly reads: "4 Tenders: includes 4 crispy chicken tenders served with 12 ounces of fries and one 8-ounce cup of signature sauce. Perfect for smaller gatherings." He went to pick up the order but couldn't open the bag because it was tied so tightly, so he assumed everything was inside. When we got home, we realized the fries were missing. He called and spoke with a representative who insisted that fries don't come with that order. My husband politely disagreed and read the description word-for-word. She transferred him to a manager who repeated the same thing, that fries were an extra $10. There's no option online to "add fries" because they're already supposed to be included. Eventually, the manager said she would "honor it this one time." Sorry, but we weren't driving back for fries that should've been included in the first place. So basically, we paid $28 for four chicken tenders. Pro tip: Skip the 4 Tender catering option and just order two of the "#2" combo meals at least those come with fries and bread (I think... unless they change their mind while packing). Now for the food itself: I really enjoyed the slider (I ordered the Country flavor). I chose that because another reviewer mentioned the Mild tasted like "powdered cayenne," and she was absolutely right our Medium tenders had that same chalky spice taste. Was there on a Sunday afternoon in 03.2026 only because the site was convenient to my shopping needs. The staff was helpful, attentive and pleasant and it seemed clean. The food came quickly, but was absolutely not worth the visit. I just wanted a snack, so I got sides of fries and cole slaw, for about $9-ish, total. The fries were seasoned very unevenly, so the top of the small pile of fries had perhaps less seasoning than I expected and the bottom set my tongue on fire. The cole slaw was just OK, perhaps a bit vinegary, even for me and I usually add vinegar to creamy cole slaw to give it more tang. But, it was fresh. Food was 4/5 stars but the service was 5/5 stars. Pasquel was very helpful and very kinda. I wish the Mac and cheese was more flavorful and less mushy. The chicken was good and fresh just a little spicy so if you are picking your spice level select the spice level one level less than you usually get. The seasoning isn't very flavorful it's just more heat. Fries were good, no complaints there. I wish they had ranch available but their brands' sauce was good and is more similar to Dave's hot chicken sauce than raising canes sauce. Not bad, place was nearly empty at lunchtime on a Wednesday. The person who took my order was kind and helpful after I explained it was my first time in. She asked how hot I liked my chicken and having never been I asked if she'd ever been to Dave's hot chicken so I could judge spice levels. She said she had not but recommended one hot and one medium (I ordered the two slider meal). Good was served promptly and nice and hot having just been made, I couldn't tell which was the hot and which was the medium as I couldn't tell by looks. The first bite was okay, spice level was more on the mild side for me, slaw on the first sandwich tasted like they bought it at the grocery store and the bun was just so-so. Good overall. The second sandwich tasted exactly the same and I could tell no difference in the spice level. Now for the chicken, it was crispy which I like but the quality of meat just wasn't as good as others I've had, certainly not chicken breast but maybe more chicken nugget type meat. The fries however were outstanding, lots of spice, fresh, crispy and hot out of the fryer. It's a shame that this location is getting such poor reviews, but I can attest to the subpar quality compared to their Thousand Oaks location. I ordered a #1 Medium, and it was waaay too spicy. They must have mixed up the Hot or X-Hot spices because I could not eat the second slider from the spiciness. I've had Medium from the TO location, and it's perfect. Also, there was barely any coleslaw on my sliders (much less given compared to TO). TO also gives more fries than this location. The food took a long time to come out. Maybe the kitchen was understaffed, but the front desk had plenty of employees working. I had to wait again when I drove back for a redo on my order due to the aforementioned devil's armpit amount of spice on my original order. The decor is fine. Workers were quick to clean up tables, which is nice to see. The outside patio really need umbrellas, though. At sunset, eating outside is fine. Overall, I like Angry Chickz, but just go to the one in Thousand Oaks if you happen to pass by. The Medium spice is actually medium, and you get more slaw and fries with your order. There was some shade with tables along the building on the west side of the patio. A lot of direct sunlight on 75% of the patio. It blew my mind how many people walked outside with the tables along the shade side full and at least 8 tables free on the open patio. This is because there were no umbrellas or any shade over the patio. Absolutely crazy that you would have this kind of location and real estate and not maximize your customers dining experience. Alright, I'm not really that irritated so far. Then the food comes out delivered by an associate and I'm kind of impressed getting table service. The server walks up and is holding two trays and I ask, which one is the heat and which one is the medium of the trays? She points to the one that she hand me and tells me that's the heat, which is what I ordered. I start eating mine and discovered it has no heat and my poor lunch guest is choking on the heat that was supposed to be my sandwich. WTH Now I'm irritated. Oh and the table service, they bring you your trays with food and no napkins so you have to get up walk inside and get napkins off the counter. Another little pet peeve is they give you these little plastic cups for your drink and you need to make numerous trips to the soda dispenser to refill it three times. Again, ridiculous. Final thoughts. The chicken was OK. French fries are kinda good. You know when you're in the Chick-fil-A and they're like overly attentive and always saying my pleasure? Well, not one person asked if we were satisfied or otherwise happy to be there. It's hard to imagine that an investment in a location and a store like this that there wouldn't be anybody in management or less during a busy lunch hour checking on their customers to make sure they're having a good experience. Sorry but not sorry, I've been in customer service all my life at a very high corporate level, and there is no way that you can sustain a business like this with this type of service or lack there of.
