Terrible service, terrible food. Came here on Sunday around 1pm and left around 2:45pm. Walked in and had to wait 7-minutes for the host to show up. Finally seated and the waitress was the bartender. Took our drink order and disappeared for 10-minutes. Came back and the kids drink was a regular adult drink. Took it back and out came our Caesar salad's that was way over dressed and the lettuce was cut huge, but no kids drink.My wife and I made a bet which was going to arrive first: appetizer or food. 15-minutes later, our wagon wheel appetizer arrived. Zucchini was greasy, chicken strips were chewy, potato skins were cold. We ordered a kids sirloin and French fries, sirloin was tough. Salmon was way over cooked and looked burned. Rib eye was cooked medium, but was cold and fatty. Waitress took forever to bring our bill and desert. The sad part is that they were not that busy. Staff was mostly just standing around gabbing. Luckily, we looked the one near our house which is far away from this terrible place. Oh, and don't forget about the 3% feet for using your credit card that they don't tell you about. read more

We met for lunch on Sunday April 12. We ordered 4 iced teas and they were so light it was like drinking water. They told us we could NOT order from the lunch menu. Just Brunch or dinner at noon on a Sunday. French Dip came out looking like shoe leather, it was old, dry and disgusting. Sent back immediately. The burgers were meh, and we had to eat after everyone was done because our food had to be remade. Nothing good to say about my experience to BA this week. Service was beyond poor and food was not good. Met up with some family just before 6. As it was still happy hour for a few moments, I stopped by the bar and was left ungreeted by the bartender for about 5 minutes (it wasn't even busy and he crossed past me at least a dozen times). A HH drink menu would have been a good start. Finally he asked what I needed and I ordered two happy hour drinks (one for me and another in my party). He stated that he couldn't serve me two, and that I should just order from my waitress. Long story short here... I ordered through waitress, got my drinks about 15 minutes later, and got hit with non-happy hour pricing. I kinda saw that coming. Okay for table experience. Dirty silverware, no bread offered to the table, and overall the staff was SLOW. We didn't get out of there until about 8:30pm. This was just 4 of us going for a 6pm dinner. To the food. It wasn't good. Ribeye was overcooked and cold. One person at our table ordered prime rib. About 40 minutes after ordering, the server came back stating they were out of prime rib. Odd it took so long to realize this, but order changed. 10 minutes later, the manager comes and states they are out of prime rib. We already knew. 5 minutes later later, the kitchen staff comes to let us know the same. I'm not going to even waste my time getting more into detail. It just was a complete waste of time and money. From the initial lack of service from the guy behind the bar, to the server who seemed to lack guest empathy with respect to their short comings, to the slowness overall, and sub-par product....i HIGHYLY doubt I'll return. Black angus Ventura really dropped the ball. There may have been opportunity at this place, but based on my visit, I highly doubt this place will survive in its current state. They need a complete turnover on management bc it was clear that skill and experience was lacking. Restrooms were also unkempt. Trash overflowing on a slow day. read more

Tried out their brunch menu on a Sunday & it was so tasty! Had the beef dip and fries at $19.99, very filling and just delicious. The servers were excellent, very friendly, very attentive but not overly so. I was generously given a Black Angus gift card for Christmas, and I had absolutely no idea there was one nearby. It's in the same large parking lot as the Burlington Coat Factory and the Dollar store, and it's on the other end from the Chick-fil-A. There's plenty of parking. I've never tried the restaurant before. So I was looking forward to trying the place for the first time. First of all, I made reservations to be seated, but there was no need for reservations as half the restaurant was empty. We were seated pretty immediately, given menus, and our server came by within 5 minutes to ask what we'd like to drink. We both ordered waters, and my husband also ordered an old-fashioned. Five minutes passed, and our server stopped by to let us know our drinks would be out soon. It took another 10 minutes for the old-fashioned to come out, which came out first. And then finally, the waters came out a couple of minutes after. The server also left us bread, which was probably one of the better parts of the entire meal. And for an appetizer, we ordered the jumbo shrimp, which was okay. We then placed our entree orders: steak with Mac n cheese and broccoli, and rib eye with fries and green beans. Luckily, the food came out pretty quickly. Both the steak and rib eye tasted bland, and it seemed that no amount of salt I sprinkled on them could make them any better. The Mac N cheese was hands down the worst Mac N cheese I've ever tasted - and I absolutely love Mac N cheese. I would've preferred Kraft Mac N Cheese in a box, just to let you know how unremarkable their Mac N Cheese tasted. For me, somehow, the most delicious food was the over-salted green beans and warm broccoli. It then took a while to flag down our server to get the check. I wish I could say something stood out about the restaurant, but the food was pretty bland, and the service was mediocre. This place is also excellent for large groups and families looking to dine, but remember to be patient and set your expectations for being served mediocre food at best. read more

The Re-opening was brutal and tough, but GOOD staff makes good restaurants and that's what people, and locals are looking for! Great service, great food (hot and fresh) great drinks, clean and organized. I was pretty hard the first time I reviewed this spot. I knew I had to revisit and give the restaurant and staff a chance to reset, recover, and redeliver. Well Bravo well done Black Angus. Visited Black Angus for my wife's birthday after a year of them being closed, and I'm happy to say it delivered on every front. Food, service, renovations, and management all great. Sunday at 7pm, we were quickly sat at a booth for 4. Cain, the manager, greeted us as we walked and wished my wife a happy birthday. A minute later, we were greeted by Helen who brought us water, bread, and got us going with a Strawberry Cadillac Margarita and a Jalapeño Margarita. We all indulged with a Shrimp Cocktail, Buffalo and honey sriracha chicken tenders, house salads, Chicken Avocado Bacon Sandwich, Ribeye, New York, and a Top Sirloin. Every dish was excellent, with the steaks cooked to a proper Med Rare (3 for 3). The tenders were a table favorite and taste like fresh breading. Another highlight was the other manager, Kristy, swinging by our table to greet us and also congratulating my wife on her birthday. She even went to grab us ranches, give us some future recommendations, and bring another round of bread. Helen our server was kind and accommodated each special food request (all 10+ of them lol). The night ended with a surprise cowboy cookie, with a candle and sprinkles for the special occasion. Cain came by the table at the end of the meal one more time to thank us for dining in. Overall an excellent dining experience highlighted by great welcoming service from Helen, Cain, and Kristy. Other restaurants should take notes from Black Angus because Management, when they're welcoming and engaging, can truly elevate a dining experience especially during special occasions. So excited to have Black Angus back in Ventura! We went the first week from reopen on a Thursday night (11-20), after making a reservation online. I am giving them a pass because I know they had been closed for so long and maybe the servers are rusty. I've heard another server was pretty new so it would explain some of the delays but my server in particular had said she had been working prior to the shut down and was on a maternity leave so it was really slow getting service. Never received our complimentary bread. We decided on the classic Campfire Feast. I had ordered our steak medium well but got it well done so it was a little tough to cut. Mom got the full rack of ribs which she raved were tender so glad she was pleased. We ordered two different margaritas and one came too strong so we asked for more of the margarita mix, but it took 15 minutes to get that and by then, the ice in our margarita was melting. I had to ask for things several times before it finally came which was unfortunate, even for our check! Also, if I hadn't reminded our server about our dessert that was included with our feast, she would have missed it. I'm hearing hits and misses when it comes to service when it being back open so maybe everyone just needs to get their bearings. I will be returning just because we really missed Black Angus! I eat here every Thursday night and the service is always top notch. The managers, Christy, Matt, and Kane always make sure everything is the way we like it ! The Steaks are always delicious and I my personal favorite is the Steak trio, comes with a nice cut of steak, 5 shrimp and a lobster tail, YUM YUM!! HAPPY HOUR APPS ,and drinks are awesome and priced way better than any other restaurant I eat at! I love the bar area the most, you can check out shows on the many TV's they have in that area while enjoying a happy hour cocktail and a delicious dinner. read more

Went in at a nonpeak time on a Sunday. (About 2 pm) The wait for a table was going to be 15-20 minutes. Went to the bar while waiting for table and proceeded to wait another 10 minutes before being acknowledged. Took my wife there for Mother's Day and I ordered the porterhouse absolutely the worst steak I've ever had in my life couldn't even finish it. It was that bad. No seasoning steak came out gray. Medium rare was medium well by the time I got it 15 minutes later, with the wrong sides, but I was so tired of waiting. I decided to eat the steak while they were getting the correct sides. 15 minutes later, they brought the mac & cheese, and wasn't good, so I just left. The people in the booth across from me had been waiting so long they threatened to leave as they were tired of waiting. It's no wonder this place is teetering on bankruptcy. OMG! We've been longtime Black Angus regulars and were so sad when the Ventura location closed. Yesterday, we were in Northridge and decided to stop by for dinner and to our surprise, we saw Kristy, our favorite manager from Ventura! She immediately recognized us, and it honestly made our night especially since it was our daughter's birthday. Kristy went out of her way to make it special, and it meant a lot to us. Used to be great, before forced remodel after plumbing issues shut it down. Same, cozy feel, friendly staff. On last visit, it took way to long to get a drink refill or horseradish we requested. Were almost done with dinner by the time we got it. Prime rib was a bit disappointing; tender, but a bit fatty and under-seasoned. Asked for medium rare, but was done to medium. Broccoli was practically raw, as it was so hard and crunchy. Portion sizes are down, prices are way up. Been twice since their reopening, but not planning to return.
