We went here at the recommendation of Beverly Allen at ML Leddy's. She said it was nice casual place to go and eat. We were greeted promptly on entrance, shown to our table and our server (Miranda) responded quickly and took our drink order and answered our questions about the menu items. Miranda was and excellent server who was attentive but obtrusive. My DW (Jo) had the chicken fried steak and I elected to have a Cheesburger with bacon. Both were done to perfection, we ordered the guacamole and it was made table side by Miranda, one of the best I have had in a very long time! Everything about this meal was amazing! chicken fried steak was not greasy and it had a perfect amount of breading. The mashed potatoes are homemade and the vegetables were great. However if I had anything to complain about I would say that the green beans need to be cooked a little bit longer. My husband had the chicken fried chicken which she said was probably the best that he had. The chips have a light seasoning on them and the salsa is different but good. Dinner tonight was fantastic! Our food was delicious. We got the nachos for an appetizer and it was made with really fresh veggies and cheese. It was the perfect size for 2. My husband got the chicken fried chicken, which was platted so pretty and tasted amazing. I had the cheddar burger, which was grilled to perfection. We only waited about 10 minutes for a table. If I could do three and a half stars, I might. I like the interior decor a lot; it's almost like a trendy/chic and rustic/western fusion. A little more upscale (read: pricier) than you might expect from the name and the big green anthropomorphic aggressive-looking cactus mounted over the entrance. The actual menus could be improved; right now they're cheap laminated plastic things that seem more appropriate of a Denny's. I sat at the bar for lunch (on a Thursday) and the service from the bartender (I forget her name :() was great. The hostess, on the other hand, seemed sort of distracted. They provide complimentary bread (very good focaccia squares) and oil mixed with some shaved cheese (maybe asiago? something good). Ordered the "fork and knife burrito." I assume it is so-named because it's covered in queso, so you're definitely not going to be picking it up. The burrito was pretty large, and the plating/presentation was nice (this is not an authentic Mexican or even Tex-Mex dish, and it doesn't try to look it). But overall, I wasn't impressed by the dish. The house queso is a 4-cheese blend including goat cheese, which has a very distinctive taste that I don't think lends itself well to queso. It also seemed to congeal pretty quickly. A previous reviewer mentioned that the burrito needs more inside it and I second that opinion. It's just chicken and a little bit of rice, and while the chicken is very good, the burrito just seems a little...boring? One dimensional? Something like that. It's served with a small scoop of refried (I think?) black beans which were very dry and tasteless. While I wouldn't order this particular meal again and think it needs some work (especially considering the fact that it is marked as a "signature dish"), I'll probably be back to try other menu items. read more

We have been to the Angry Cactus on multiple occasions and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, service is occasionally hit and miss. The last 2 times we have been, Amanda W. was our server. She is AMAZING and hoenstly the reason why we have been back!! She is beyond attentive, provides fantastic recommendations and truly cares about the customers! It had been a while since the last time I was in and I was so excited to see her. She remembered where I sat and who was with me. On our previous dining experience, she even drew a dragon for a friends son to color and hunted the entire resturant for different colored pens! The prices are pretentious for what they offer. It's a trendy restaurant because of the nice decor. We waited about 30 minutes for a table. The live singer lacked talent. We ordered queso and it was okay, but too thick for our taste and the chips were over salted. My Chimay was brought out in the bottle only--CHAMAY! I love my $11 monk beer, but if you are paying that much for a beer, know how to serve it. I asked for the check when they asked me how I wanted my salmon cooked. I'm giving this restaurant 2 stars because of the poor service and the food was average. It was after ASU's graduation and we knew that the wait would be long. No worries, we didn't have anything to do and wanted to celebrate with a good meal at a place we eat at every time we are in San Angelo. We were seated and the waitress asked for our drink order - 2 of the party of 4 ordered unsweet iced tea with lemon. She brought our teas and said that they were out of lemon. I asked if she could get us lime and she told me no. She said that they were almost out of limes and were saving them for the booze. So in other words if I had ordered a beer would I get a lime but with tea, no lime. She just looked at me. We ordered our food and when it came out the fixings for the hamburger were on the side, wilted lettuce and the end part of an onion (not edible). Another server delivered our food and refilled drinks. No one ever asked if our food was ok. At the end of the meal, the original server showed up (the last time we saw her was when she took our order) and asked if we needed a refill. She brought the refills along with our check, which she slammed on the table, and said that she would take that when we were ready - never mentioned desserts, which we wanted. Overall, when we are in San Angelo we will be looking for other places to eat. I really wanted to give this place more stars because I had such high hopes. But after my second visit here, I realized that they probably should've stayed closed until they had their act together. The servers we had both times were all over the place and didn't seem to know much about the menu or beer selection. The place still has construction dust all along the "water feature" which you sit up against if you're sat in the middle area. Not exactly the most appetizing sight. They were having issues with the one beer we came here for, so they offered us a different beer on the house which was awful. When we got the bill, they had charged us for the awful beer. I'm really disappointed that we got bad service and mediocre food for the price of everything. We've now tried 4 different dishes on the menu and only liked one of them. I just moved here from out of state and Im allergic to alot. I usually don't go out to eat because of that fact. My boyfriend and I are working here in San Angelo for a few months so we are just hoteling it up till we find something short term. So we have been out to eat ALOT due to there not being a real kitchen available to us. This place is by far the best place I've been to, since I've been in Texas. Our waiter (which we lucked out and got him twice) insured all of my allergy needs were met. (Thanks Dawson!) Which should always be the case but in all reality it's not. Just pretty much went above and beyond. The whole staff just looked happy which I think makes a better experience. That's just the ambiance of the angry cactus. The food was Amaze balls! I had the angry vegan this time and the blackened catfish the last time I had visited, both were great! The last time we were here my boyfriend got the burrito which was just massive and he also got an order of the chips and queso which he devoured. This time he had Cajun pasta and bread with butter. The lighter side grilled chicken with salsa and lime rice was simply the very best grilled chicken and best salsa I have ever had! (And I make ny own salsa!) Tried this restaurant for the 1st time. Was expecting the usual mexican theme decor, but was pleasantly surprised to see a more Tex-Mex retro theme.
