Allison and I went here yesterday and loved it! I mainly am writing this review to give a shout-out to Thaddeus who was our waiter. He was absolutely phenomenal and SO accommodating. He seriously deserves a reward.. especially since he said he was newer! He was so friendly and we throughly enjoyed our experience because of his amazing hospitality. Can't brag on him enough. The food was great.. especially the caramel chocolate cake with marshmallow icing! Omg! So coming back for that super soon! My spaghetti was just okay BUT you can't expect the best pasta at a diner. Our appetizers were all amazing though, especially the cheese fries and, again, we will be back soon! read more

We jumped off of 81 for lunch and Angelle's was right off the exit. Sysco food as far as we could tell, but it was better than a drive thru. I had the cool fry fried steak and my wife had the chicken fingers plate (not our healthiest day). Both were fine, but nothing to right home about. Service was good and the restaurant looks nice. I went here a few weeks after opening and my visit went as followed. First I had to wait for a table, this typically isn't a problem nor something I would gripe about but when you're actually forgotten about and other people are seated before you it needs to be mentioned. Second the wait for our drink order was around 15 minutes, when we placed our drink order I also ordered an appetizer. When drinks came back our order was placed. 20 minutes later our food plus our appetizers and salads all come out at once. No drink refills were given, we went ahead and left. The pastry items they sell up front in the glass are good. They come from a bakery that used to be in Salem I'd say they're the highlight of the diner. I will be visiting this establishment again and will hopefully be able to revise my review. read more

Food was good, although Dixie's ranch cheddar bacon fries were better. We went on Xmas eve about 730pm. Internet said they closed at 9. Waitress was good until she came and told us the cook was pissed bc we came in that late. Seeing the look on my daughter's face I knew dinner was ruined and told her we would take it to go. She brought the food opened to us in a styrofoam box telling us to take our time and they were happy bc we saved them dishes. A group of us had lunch here recently. I enjoyed the decor - spacious and clean, with various kinds of seating and best of all, two stone fireplaces. Most of us ordered the loaded potato soup - it was delicious, but could have been served a little hotter. My other friend had a Ruben sandwich, and seemed happy with it. The prices are very reasonable, and I look forward to trying breakfast here soon. Bathroom report: Two large booths in a very clean ladies' room, but beware of privacy issues: each of them has a large gap between the booth's frame and its door, which makes whoever is inside fairly visible. This was an interesting restaurant with a "little bit of everything" on the menu for the American public. Other than a very long wait for a server to get back to take our order after a very quick welcome (in an uncrowded place with at least 5 servers handling one table each--NOT a COVID-inspired staffing shortage!), the food was respectable. I had a very good half-pound burger, done as ordered with fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, and the condiments as I requested, with a side of tasty green beans. My spouse had a chicken fried steak with a fresh cole slaw and the same green beans. His sides were excellent, the steak, acceptable. It's an attractive place, reasonably priced, but needs to better coordinate service assignments, or get people off the phone when they have customers. read more

A nice job remodeling but it's definitely highway food. Nothing special about the brisket, shrimp or burgers. Greasy. The salad had some bad lettuce pieces in it. Cheap bread. I feel we should have known better but since it's newly opened we wanted to give it a try. Our waitress was delightful but we will not be back. We learned that it's the same owner as the Omlet House nearby. We would feel ill after eating there also. read more

We ate here with our kiddos while traveling through Salem. I had the Eggs Benedict. The ham had a nice quality and crispness, the grits were creamy and wonderful. Overall a solid breakfast with appropriate portions and nice presentation. The waitstaff was friendly and prompt. I know this is a newer place and I would recommend trying. read more

We've visited several times...reluctantly...with weeks/months between...Hoping for improvements... Any Salad ordered comes from their "open" salad bar. After our 1st order, the salad was not fresh & had ugly lettuce going bad & it was easy to spot. Why the salad prep station is not better maintained by the wait staff, who just stand idly around it, is poor management. Just observing this station from the bar makes it very unappetizing...We order Meatloaf, Chop Steak w/ grilled Onions & both foolproof & pretty good. After trying several entrees, these are what we've settled on. The Baked potatoes have been bought to us so un-warm they were returned. Each time since, we've had to "specify" the Baked Potatoes be HOT! Their steamed Broccoli is our go to side. Breads are nothing special...Their best menu options are for Breakfast...Lunch...???...our best option is their Burger (so-so ‍) This place is what it is, an inexpensive restaurant catering to the Interstate/1-time customer that'll continue that milieu... read more

Did not come with the toppings as they "ran out". i started eating the sandwich and it was completely raw. The waitress was really apologetic and sweet and asked if i would like another or a complimentary slice of cake. I kindly declined. She said she would take it off the bill which I expected nothing less. The place was very empty and quiet; I now understand why. Avoid at all costs. I was excited to pull into this diner when I saw the cute fleur de lys black railing because I'm from Louisiana. The food was good and service was also good. My suggestions to improve would be to offer more authentic Cajun and southern food. There was no remoulade and you can even buy remoulade at the Walmart these days so what is the excuse for that? I was also sad that there was no eggs Benedict on a Sunday. For the cocktails try offeeing a Sazerac, vieux carré or French 74 instead of the sugary offerings on the menu. Desserts looked good but not very French. Crème brûlée cream puffs and éclairs aren't that hard to make. Get your French on, Angelles. In the meantime a nice place for a hamburger and chocolate layer cake. read more

We are traveling from New York to Georgia, and read the review for this restaurant. We decided to try it, and it was well worth being here. We had fish and chips and the shrimp basket. The coleslaw was amazingly sweet and good. The hush puppies were the best that we have ever had anywhere. Great french fries, fish, and shrimp! My dad and I went here for breakfast a few years ago and I liked it. So, when in town again, my son and I went here for lunch, this week. (I didn't know that this place apparently is relatively new - the Google Maps 2018 street view shows the building looking differently.) My son had a burger and crinkle cut fries, and Pepsi, which seemed good. I had a grilled chicken sandwich, with green beans as my side. The bun was actually delicious - soft and flavorful. The chicken was charred and moist. My sandwich had lettuce tomato and mayonnaise on it, I believe. Very yummy. The green beans were tasty, too. Unsweet tea was good. Service was friendly. I can tell that lots of friendly locals come here (b/c I see them saying hello to each other) -- and that adds a cozy feeling. The restaurant interior is comforting, classy and clean. My husband and I travel from Charlotte to DC often, and Salem is a great midway place to stop for lunch (Exit 137 off I-81). We discovered Angelle's one Sunday when our go-to Chick-fil-A was closed. It's particularly good because we travel with our dog and the patio is nicer than most for outdoor eating. On this most recent occasion, I tried the barbecue basket and was surprised at just how good a pulled pork sandwich can be. The bun that it came on was toasted to the point that it gave a satisfying crunch when I bit into it. The pork and sauce were perfect. I chose fried okra as a replacement for the French fries normally served with the sandwich. That and the cole slaw were excellent. My husband ordered a new item on the menu called a Strawberry Spinach Salad. He ordered it with the optional grilled chicken, and he was very pleased. Our waitress was cheerful, helpful, and polite, which has always been the case when we dine here. I highly recommend Angelle's! read more

Our first, but certainly not our last, time here. Really great food, great service, and great prices. I had the gumbo that was the closest thing to Cajun cooking in these parts and my wife had the chicken and broccoli Alfredo with homemade sauce- both dishes were delicious! Sarah was our server and was prompt, pleasant, and personal. The restaurant was immaculate with spacious seating. Would have loved it if the two fireplaces would have been going, but the food is great as is the service. Give yourself a nice treat and eat at Angelle's. First time going, not familiar with the area but the service was superb. Within 45 seconds of being seated we were asked what to drink. Appetizer came out within four minutes. One of us ordered the bbq brisket; the flavor of the meat and bread was good but there wasn't much meat on the sandwich. I ordered the Shrimp Po Boy. To my surprise the shrimp was fried. Some of the pieces tasted double fried, the shrimp flavor was lost and it was very crunchy. However overall, the experience was positive because of the exceptional service and food was mostly excellent. read more

We had an overall good experience at Angelle's last night. Initially I wanted to leave before we were even seated because the host sat a party of 4 and a baby that arrived 10 minutes after us before sitting us but I'm glad my family talked me into staying. My husband and I both ordered burgers that were huge and delicious with fries. My mom ordered the Reuben and my dad ordered the steak sub, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal and we all said we would return. The food runner had her hair up and gloves on which I appreciated and our server who was also the bartender was extremely busy but did an overall great job considering she was running the bar and had a few tables as well. I would give this place a 1 star. Me and my boyfriend went friday night 9-27-19. There was 3 cars in the parking lot. Was not busy had 3 other customers. We were seated and waited for a waitress to come and wait on us but 10 minutes went by still no waitress. Then we seen some customers were seated behind us and within seconds a waitress waited on them. We were very upset that NO ONE bother to wait on us. There were 3 waitresses at the bar area doing nothing but talking, 3 more over at the counter 1 biting her nails. Will never go back. Didn't get to try the food but the SEVICE SUCKED.
