Great diner food with a great value. This place has a classic feel of a diner with the booths and menu. Had brunch here during the weekend. My husband ordered the country fried steak and it came with eggs, hash browns and pancakes. I ordered the grilled cheese with bacon and tomatoes. It came with soup and fries. The food tasted great and cooked to good quality. The portions are huge. You will not leave hungry. This past Saturday I was in the area (thanks to the DMV) and decided to find a local spot for breakfast. I pulled up Yelp and this place popped up, so glad it did! FYI--Andy's is located in a small strip-mall. I asked Gina, my waitress, for some recommendations and chose the Potato Pancake Benedict. Oh my goodness, it was GLORIOUS! Decent standard diner near the airport. Food was good and they had a lot of breakfast options to choose from. I got the veggie skillet with a side of pancakes. I wasn't a fan of broccoli in my skillet, but everyone has their favorite veggies. Pancakes were really good. Nice and fluffy. I don't eat meat but I noticed they had gyro meat as some of the options for breakfast. Seemed like a nice change. I just had coffee and a bagel, which was a bit burnt, my friend got an omelette, it was certainly big, a good amount for what he paid, though the way it looked was a bit overdone for my taste, but my friend didn't seem to mind. It's kind of just eh. Our server was very friendly, but seemed to have forgotten about us or got caught up in something else. Service was slower than it should have been for the volume of customers at the time, and the food was good but I have had better. We did find one small hair in our soup, but we were in a rush so didn't have time to bring it to anyone's attention. We just removed it and set it aside. Took a while to get our food, probably 25 minutes. It wasn't very busy at the time so this was a bit unacceptable. No one came by to ask us how everything was tasting or if we needed anything, or to refill our drinks. I'd consider returning in the future, but would consider other establishments first. read more

Outstanding service! Everyone in my party was impressed by the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff! Restaurant was clean but the chairs could use a little screw-tightening. I'm a big guy and when the chair starts to rock, I start worrying that I'm going to break it and end up on the floor. We heard Andy's has great skillets so all three of us ordered a skillet - the Fiesta, Andy's, and Corned Beef Hash. All were delicious and outstanding. Lots of quality and fresh ingredients, and more than enough in the portion size. In fact, all three of us men took at least one-third of our meal home with us. Good breakfast joint. The breakfasts are huge. You'll get a square meal for a fair price. There's sandwiches and some meals in addition to the breakfasts on the menu too. It's open only till 3, so plan accordingly. Update: Our visit yesterday caused me to change my ratings. The place is not as clean as it used to be. Food servers also clear tables and don't wash their hands after clearing dirty plates. The bathroom wasn't clean. Bottom line: Great breakfast at a great value. Andy's has the feel of a City diner from the 50s. Wait staff are in crisp white shirts and black pants. They are cordial, but quick. Not a lot of chit chat. Some people not from the city may see this as rude, but if you every go to a NYC diner you'll know what I mean. The bus server was pouring my coffee as I was sitting down. Coffee is hot, fresh, and a mild brew. Maybe a tad too much water, but a smooth, mellow cup. Not a strong, dark roast at all. But I prefer a light roast, so I loved the java. Also, wait staff kept the cup at 3/4 to full. I thought it has a 5* menu, lots of choices that made it hard to choose. I settled on the incredible skillet. Bacon, ham, sausage, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, and diced tomatoes over a heaping mound of hashed brown potatoes, layered with cheese and topped with three eggs done your way. Sunny side up for me. Comes with a side of hot off the griddle, thick, fluffy pancakes. The griddle was presented well, piping hot, with thick stringy cheese. I think I would have liked a little more salt and pepper. Veggies were slightly undercooked, but certainly not raw. Pancakes were near perfect, just slightly doughy in the very middle. Overall, everything tasted great. I would actually give it 4.5* if I could, but feel rounding up to 5 seems fine as well. read more

This used to be a nice local breakfast spot but it isn't anymore. I don't know if the ownership or management changed but the food and service frankly sucks. The last time I was in the counter was dirty and cluttered even though the place was mostly empty. After ordering my food I noticed the toaster was literally on fire. Not just smoking but actual flames coming out the top. When I tried to get a man behind the counters attention he turned and snapped at me with "what do you want"? First time we've been here and were very pleased with everything. The boyfriend got the corned beef skillet with sour dough toast and I got the strawberry stuffed french toast with bacon. Both were reasonably priced, portioned well and tasted great. Service was great as well. It was busy and we were expecting a wait but were seated quickly and greeted soon as we sat down and our drink orders were taken and brought soon after. Their menu is so huge, their variety is so good, and they have big selections to choose from. They have quality meals, sandwiches, pasta, bread, biscuits, desserts, beverages, and others. Went there this morning as it's one of the restaurants on my way home from work at my pt job. Had been here once before - maybe 7-8 years ago. One of the things that other reviewers note and I couldn't agree more is that the food wasn't greasy or too salty. The eggs were fresh and robust on my corned beef hash skillet. Food came out fast - the English muffin was lightly toasted just as I had asked for it to be. Decent size glass of OJ at a price that doesn't require a second mortgage. Update: I don't get to go here often anymore, and finally went this morning. We had Heather as our server, and she was AWESOME! So helpful and friendly! I really do not feel that I am exaggerating when I say that Andy's is the best place to get breakfast not just in Des Plaines, but pretty much anywhere I have had breakfast, when you consider all of the factors. I cannot think of enough positive things to say about them. 1) The menu is diverse (numerous skillets, omelettes, sandwiches, potato pancake benedict, biscuits and gravy, and much more) 2) Extremely low prices 3) HUGE portions 4) The food is amazing, of course 5) The staff is so very friendly 6) Never had to wait long for a booth even when busy I have never had a bad experience here. It gives you the simplicity and affordability that you would expect from a diner but also provides great taste, portions, and service. The last time I visited, my boyfriend accidentally made the ketchup shoot out across the table (oops) and our server brought him a new plate of pancakes because a few drops got on them, without him even asking for a replacement. Our drinks are always refilled quickly and the service is always great. I cannot tell you enough about how amazing the corned beef hash skillet is... I have a legitimate obsession. They load their skillets with soo much cheese, they are truly amazing. My brother is in love with the hobo skillet, which has three types of cheeses. The buttermilk pancakes are delicious and MASSIVE. I have a big appetite but can never leave this place without a waddle, lol. At IHOP you would spend twice as much money for half the amount of food and less taste. The subtle appearance of Andy's exterior does not do this place justice for how much of a staple it is in Des Plaines. I struggle to find any other dinner that matches the taste and hospitality of Andy's. I really, really recommend it to anyone who is looking for a very affordable and tasty breakfast. Calm, family-centered hidden gem. Right as I sat down, I was offered coffee, and our waiter was very friendly. I ordered Andy's skillet, and each bite was just amazing. It was not too salty or greasy, as I find many skillets are at some diners. The pancakes are a great texture, and I probably could've eaten all my food if I weren't too concerned about over-eating!
