I tried out some of the chicken fried rice and the lomo saltado and I can say the taste was largely forgettable. The most delicious food item was the plantains. But, I do know those dishes that I mentioned above are my favorites and I am glad I have it on here because the next time I go, I will keep adding to my list here..lol! Each of their dishes has such love going into each of their sauces that they make, it requires to have so much work to go into it for their food to come out so delicious as we sat their enjoying every bite. We have been to 3 other Peruvian restaurants in AZ and 1 outside the US and 1 outside of AZ. This one is at the bottom of the list due to the quality of the meat. Location is in a questionable area (lots of homeless and random people walking in the 100F+ heat) however, we made the drive here to give it a try. Bad: as stated above the quality of the beef was very cheap. It ruined the whole meal unfortunately. Good: the sauce in the dish was tasty and the salsas were good. Wouldn't go back or recommend anyone to make the drive there unless they do something about their choice of meat. The plate PP is nearly $20. This restaurant is fairly new so I had been wanting to try it for a couple of months. The restaurant is located in a shopping plaza with Food City and is kind of small. The staff was very friendly and came around often to make sure we were doing ok. I ordered the saltado los Andes which is shrimp and beef with bell peppers and onions. It includes fries and a tower of rice. The fries were crispy (just the way I like them!) and the shrimp was delicious. I wasn't a fan of the beef as I felt it was a little bland. We also ordered the anticuchos (beef hearts) for an appetizer and that came on 3 skewers and generous portions! The salsas de aji were flavorful and spicy! I tried the Anticuchos (grilled beef heart skewers) & Leche de Tigre (white fish ceviche). They were incredible! The multiple Peruvian sauces will keep you guessing which is your favorite and which is hotter. There is plenty of zip & the Leche de Tigre is a creative take on ceviche. I love Andes so much. The front counter is decorated with three of the Nazca Lines. Each table has a Peruvian-style textile under the plastic top. There are Peruvian paintings and photographs on the wall, as well as a large Peruvian flag. Everything is very clean and well-kept, and the music they play is great. I ordered the ají de gallina, which was very good. I also ordered a can of Inca Cola, which I recommend everyone try at least once. It's a Peruvian soda that's exceedingly popular there. My love of Peruvian food can be directly attributed to one of my favorite restaurants in the entire valley. El Chullo on 7th Street and Virginia in Phoenix was my first experience with Peruvian classics like the Causa Rellena, the Lomo Saltado, and the Ceviche Mixto. Peruvian food is a glorious mix of seafood and beef, a mix of Latin American and Asian influences, and the dishes are a kaleidoscope of colors and textures. So while I've always been open to trying more Peruvian spots here in town, I can't honestly say I've sought them out as El Chullo is just that damn good. But then I noticed that both the Arizona Republic and Phoenix New Times named Andes as their #1 spot for Peruvian cuisine in the valley? Well then, Andes, you now have my attention. And on a Saturday around lunchtime, they received a visit from me. Eager to see if Andes is worth the hype. Look for Andes on the northeast corner of 27th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. On the north end of the Food City parking lot, you'll find the Andes sign in big letters out front. Walk inside and you'll see a big Peruvian flag behind the front counter, and blue hues on the walls, blue lighting near the ceiling, and blue tables and chairs with seating for I'd guess up to 50. Chef Oscar Graham owns and operates this simple neighborhood spot which serves up a pretty massive menu of Peruvian dishes and street foods to choose from. Before I could start however, the waitress brought by a small cup of crispy corn kernels accompanied by a couple of hot sauces to start me off. A pleasant little snack to get my taste buds going. From there I started with a Maracuya (basically a passion fruit drink) before ordering my appetizer. I've had Causa Rellenas with crab or chicken before. But for my first Andes visit I tried their Causa Rellena de Camaron made with a housemate shrimp salad. The Causa Rellena is meat sandwiched between two layers of mashed potatoes. The dish is seasoned with lime and yellow peppers and topped with an egg yolk and an olive. First off, the Causa Rellena here at Andes is WAY larger than the ones I've had at El Chullo. I was shocked and kind of intimidated by the size of the one they have here, plus they serve it with a battered and fried shrimp on the side for good measure. Despite its shocking size, I was more than happy with the taste. Every bite of that cool texture was a delicious mouthful. Shrimp salad filing was particularly excellent, but potatoes as always are the star of the Cause Rellena as they should be. One key difference I will point out is the Causa Rellena here did not have avocado, (though it did have more meat filling in the middle). Having survived this monstrosity of an appetizer I felt confident I could give an entree a go. I've had Lomo Saltado and Saltado de Camarones before, but I couldn't decide between the two this time around. Ah, but Andes has a solution for that. The Saltado Los Andes. Beef Loin strips and Shrimp sautéed with onions, tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, vinegar, and shallots. Served with a pyramid of white rice and a side of french fries. Magnificent. The shrimps and veggies were excellent, but the beef, just wow. Ridiculously tender juicy with phenomenal seasoning to boot. And the fries and rice mop up all those juices just right. Total cost for the food drink, tax and tip (after applying the Yelp check-in 10% discount, which they do honor) came to $38. Given the portion size and the quality of each of my dishes, I'd say that's a pretty fair deal. I wish I had room for dessert this go around, but I was just stuffed to the gills. Great meal, great experience all around. Is it better than El Chullo? For now I'd say its too close to call as its neck and neck. I'll probably need another visit here to make an educated verdict. It's that good! I'm sure the rest of the menu is just as delicious, based on the quality and flavor of that dish alone. Drove out to try this place because of the reviews even though it's not in the best spot. The neighborhood is a little sketch. I've been to a few Peruvian places and wanted to try this spot. I think one prior patron got it right when they stated that quality of the meat was poor. The salsas that came with the meal were so good but that was it for me. I expected more given the price per dish. The chicken was chewy and I was expecting tender. I also thought the ratio of sautéed veggies to protein was off. I cannot remember the last time I have eaten food that tastes this good. Every single item we got was beyond our expectations. We have never eaten Peruvian food before so we got quite a bit. The Arroz con Mariscos with a rich tomatoe-forward paella which is more than enough for two people. The Pollo a la brasa each piece white/dark was roasted deep brown with skin on, juicy and full their spice blend seasoning. The two salsa are powerhouses on their own w/ some notable heat; my partner doesn't like heat and has a low heat tolerance threshold, yet he kept putting it on everything and sucking the air through his teeth trying to cool his mouth down in between saying "but it's so good though". I don't know what the Orgia de Mariscos would taste like without that Pisco, but again I can't tell you how much distinct flavor comes from this ceviche. The Picarones are delicious light fried unsweet donuts with a little chew that you are 100% required to dunk into that molassasy (not a real word) which I read someone says tastes like licorice; I hate licorice, and I got 0% of that taste so don't let that deter you. No question we will be back and whether you have or have not had Pervuvian food before if you are looking for food that makes you question what you've been eating lately, give them a try! read more

If you like seafood and lime I suggest trying the ceviche. The Aji de Gallina is chicken in a creamy sauce, the lomo Saltado is for meat lovers. I was the only customer there, i enjoyed the atmosphere, its simple, its unique, and the girl behind the counter was friendly, cute, and was willing to help with the menu, she was bi-lingual. They offered canned sodas, so no free refills. I don't normally eat dessert but tried the dessert donuts, i just forget the actual name. They were good light, crispy, and doughy too...For being a semi-hole in the wall place thought the prices were a bit high, but definitely worth checking out. O the joy of authentic South American cuisine. I recently discovered this Peruvian restaurant. The 30 mile drive was well worth it especially with some dear friends one of whom is well versed in this type of food. Previously I had tried Peruvian food in the greater Phoenix metro area but both experiences fell well short of expectations primarily because the preparation had been quite a bit modified for local palates. So Andes was such a pleasant surprise (thanks Kim). The four of us shared a ceviche, lomo Saltado and anticuchos (beef hearts). These were the real McCoy. My beverage of choice was an imported Peruvian soda. Delish! The only reason for not giving five stars is that the anticuchos and lomo saltado could have used a little more seasoning. The service was prompt and very friendly. This is a small place, nothing ostentatious. But cheery and clean and welcoming. I will be making another pilgrimage to check out other items on the menu.
