Calamari - would have preferred a more traditional dipping sauce in addition to the one provided.
    Mikey J.

Had reservations for a late lunch on Mother's Day. It's much bigger on the inside than you'd expect with 2 floors and some outdoor seating. All is very nicely decorated and a great use of an old space. Service was good. Food comes out as it's ready, so some items may trickle out, or you may get multiple things at once. As for the menu, don't expect "traditional" dim sum. The majority of items are more of an Asian fusion, with multiple influences. We had a couple of the bao choices, a couple different dumplings, the calamari and the scallion pancakes. Everything was good, so better than others, which was mostly due to individual tastes. The chicken curry soup dumplings were a nice take on soup dumplings, with a heavy curry flavor. The scallion pancakes were good, but I'm not sure the spicy cream sauce and chili flakes were necessarily needed, or improved the dish. The pork belly bao was my favorite, but each person in our party had a different favorite dish. Overall a good experience in a unique location. If I'm looking for dim sum though, I'll probably stick to one of the more traditional locations for that. Coming back for Happy Hour sounds like a good idea for a future visit.

Went to check out And Dim Sum since it was recommended to me by a friend and I have mixed reviews. I sat at the bar and the staff were nice. They checked up on me often however it could've just been when I went, but they seemed busy and were a little flustered forgetting a couple things when serving me which is fine considering. I decided to get a drink and ordered The Zen Blossom which wasn't a bad drink It just wasn't for me personally. I think it has a weird aftertaste but I definitely see its appeal. Afterwards, I ordered some food to go and ordered the lemongrass chicken dumplings which was honestly really good. I love the vibe of the place, the ambience looks so nice and is a good spot to go if you're looking for some dumplings in a nice setting. I plan on giving this place another visit hopefully when it's not as busy to try some other things out but this is definitely a solid spot.

Great find that I don't understand why it's not rated higher. The only issues I had were parking - not their fault, but either get lucky with street parking or a pay lot a block or two away. Other issue was restrooms are upstairs, which could be a problem for some. The food, though, was excellent! Perhaps some of the best dim sum I've found in the area...and I have looked! A special note: from opening until 6:00PM on weekdays they offer 2-for-one dumplings; a great excuse to eat more than you probably should - at least we did! We took advantage of this opportunity to enjoy the following dumplings: cumin lamb, pork & black truffle Xiao Long Bao, Lemongrass Chicken, and Quessaburria. We also had pork belly bao and hot & numbing calamari. Looking around, we weren't the only ones enjoying themselves to excess, as several tables were piled high with dishes as the diners looked ready to explode. Skylar, our waitress, was friendly and attentive. She was very helpful, pointing out some options and getting extras for us immediately, such as black vinegar and ginger for the soup dumplings. She also pointed out that they offer an all-you-can-eat dumpling special on Sundays for $25pp, which seems quite reasonable given their quality. Will definitely be returning!

And Dim Sum was such a vibe--super aesthetically pleasing with great service. Perfect spot for a cute moment with the girlies. The drinks were solid and the food was delicious. Definitely worth the visit!

TLDR: has decent food, but you're paying for the aesthetic. Go for happy hour. I've been to ADS twice now and tried a variety of things. Service is always great, the atmosphere is cool, but the food is pretty average. The beef dumplings were just ok as there's not much flavor but chicken, pork, and soup dumplings were pretty good. The ADS Old fashioned was delicious! The scallion pancake is decent but it's a small portion size (if you're used to the ones at Asian restaurants). They have a pretty good happy hour and weekly deals, so definitely try to do your rounds then.

We came in right at open and had some of the best modern dim sum ever! HIGHLY recommend the crab rangoon nachos and pork belly bao - and I'm a vegetarian! We also enjoyed the Flu Fighter tea, bok choy, and mushroom and tofu dumplings. 10/10 food! The service was kind and fast. We loved the ambiance and games available. We'll certainly be back next time we're in Richmond!

The food was entirely too salty and the flavors were pretty mid. We ordered the lo mein and it was so salty I felt like my lip was falling off. We sent it back. When we received our second dish it was a long wait as well. Also our lo mein came out before our apps which I thought was strange. And when the second dish came out it tasted NOTHING like the original one. It was missing ALL the flavor. I could have gotten better flavor at the Chinese food spot honestly. Diego was an amazing waiter tho. He made my experience. Such a sweetie. The place is super cute tho. My favorite color is pink so I was super excited to try it but I'm sad at how disappointing it was.

I wanted to love this place so bad but the only thing o loved was the decor and ambiance. It was so pretty and picture ready! The food was so disappointing!!! I had the skirt steak w/ veggies and rice..... the skirt steak would've been delicious with some seasoning or a sauce. It lacked flavor so bad! The veggies were over cooked and mushy, and the rice was just that.... Plain, white rice. The mushroom dumplings were the same, mushy and flavorless. The scallion pancakes were more like a pita cut up and deep fried. The margarita was the best part of my meal. It was very refreshing. Our waiter was great and attentive.

I dropped in with a friend during Happy Hour. They have an EXCELLENT Happy Hour menu. I got the calamari, $1 beef dumplings (3) and a sake. Everything was delicious. Keep in mind, dim sum is small plates. So three dumplings isn't much, but paired with the nice sized calamari was plenty for me. The sake was also a generous portion. Enough to share. And it was mild. Love how they redecorated the old Max's space. Bravo to the designer, who made it Asian inspired, colorful and fun without falling into the tacky trap. Super cool aesthetic. My only gripe is how I felt like our server was rushing us to finish. She checked on us way too often and too soon. It didn't feel like not knowing any better. It felt like hinting for us to get out when it wasn't particularly crowded. We clearly were talking a bunch and didn't particularly want or need to keep being interrupted. That said. I'll be back! And probably order the exact same thing.

I had a great time trying this new restaurant, And Dim Sum. This was my first experience trying Dim Sum so I really appreciated that the menu was simple and had good descriptions of each menu item along with a server that was super kind to answer any question that I had. I highly recommend trying a few different items to create a really delicious meal. The Lemongrass Chicken Dumplings, Beef Medallion Dumplings, Pork Xiao Long Bao,Kimchi Bacon Spring Rolls, and Duck Wontons. The restaurant itself has a really fun vibe. There's an upstairs and downstairs to provide plenty of space and a great dining option to reserve a private party. There's as a bar with plenty of drink options for a night out. I do recommend carpooling with whomever you are going to dinner with because parking is limited on the street. But do whatever you can to come to And Dim Sum, you won't regret it!

I didn't get to try any of the food but the drinks were the stars of the show. Also they had $2 Jell-O shots. Both were on their pride month menu. I left with a good buzz. The bartender was super nice and attentive. I really like the aesthetic of the place as well. Didn't love the lady that sneezed in her hands right next to me tho (just had to get that off my chest, that has nothing to do with the restaurant)

It's such a cute restaurant. And it's a great location within walking distance of Birdies and the quirk! The staff is very friends and the drinks and food are very good. It's just very slow. I've been a few times and each it has never been super busy but it has taken a while to get my food and drinks. I still think it's worth a try but don't go there expecting it to move quickly. The food is delicious though! I got the bacon kimchi spring rolls and the chicken dumplings and both were great. I also had a Negroni and it was delicious as well!

Tried And Dim Sum tonight for date night and left with mixed feelings. They moved into the old Maxs on Broad location and did a great job with the decorations. $9 for three soup dumplings were the best part of our meal. Wasn't happy we paid $9 for three dumplings however, the greatness kinda stopped there. $3 for 3 The medallion dumplings were kinda dry but the vinegar saved them. $8 on happy hour: The calamari should have been served with the sauce on the side because the breading got soggy and fell off by the time it was cool enough to eat. The entrees were expensive for their size and were quite frankly bland as if soy sauce were the only seasoning. $18 steak chow mean was bland and they apparently overcooked it then remade it and it was still overcooked. The portion size was small with only three bits of actual steak and then steak crumbs. $22 wok shrimp have the same lack of complexity and whole peanuts. We might be back if they run a special on the soup dumplings but will otherwise grab food elsewhere.

Our waitress was knowledgeable about everything we ordered and made great recommendations. The atmosphere is just as impressive. The decor is simple but thoughtfully elevated, and sitting at the bar area feels like you have stepped out of Richmond and into somewhere like New York City. Hats off to the staff at Lillian who continue to be wonderful, but now that they have scrapped…read moretheir dollar oyster lunch specials, the food has absolutely nothing to offer. Like too many restaurants in the Scott's Addition area, this is seafood cooked without finesse and then absolutely brutalized with absurd amounts of palate fatiguing, brash, loud flavors. Every item on the menu endeavors to conceal mediocrity in the quality and handling of the ingredients with explosive, overwhelming additives meant to shock you into submission. Things like black garlic and chili oil, raw garlic, sesame seed oil, and punishing heat are inescapable on the menu, which really says to me loud and clear "we do not understand the appeal of seafood, and might have a fundamental misunderstanding about good food in general." I don't exaggerate when I say these dishes would be improved (setting aside things like inability to properly cook octopus) by scaling back the flavors to 5-10% the loudness level they are currently at, to let the ingredients speak, and to make the dining experience less of a punishing marathon with no relief. I have had much subtler and more skillfully balanced dishes at Indian and Thai restaurants, cuisines known for strong flavor profiles. I'm through listening to these Richmond restaurants trying to excuse simply bad food by claiming "that's the nature of the cuisine." In this case, Lillian claims that dishes characterized by these cacophonous competing flavors is "South American." No it isn't - the person conceptualizing the dishes is just a bad chef who doesn't know what he's doing, and at the prices Lillian charges, that's inexcusable. Drowning every dish in flavors that overwhelm the palate is not a way to respect your ingredients or your diner, and only communicates youth and insecurity. Anyone who's eaten widely and knows their ingredients will rightly feel assaulted and insulted by this overpriced, unskilled fare. To anyone who decides to go anyway: Good luck with the digestive distress, and with the taste that will still be left over in your mouth the next morning, no matter how much you brush your teeth.
