Belmar on a summer Saturday without a reservation usually means slow starvation or a convenience store hero and a stomach pump chaser. Now that we discovered the Anchor Tavern, I can save the stomach pump for my anniversary. Seated in the bar with their garage doors open wide, we enjoyed a meal that far surpassed our modest expectations. A Caesar salad in a bar that actually tasted like it was made sometime after the Roman Legion ruled the known world followed by Ribs and Fish and Chips that didn't conjure up memories of FEMA rations after Sandy. Seriously, our meals were excellent and will be well-remembered the next time we're in Belmar. Highly recommended. (Some of Belmar's pricier joints could learn a thing or two from the Anchor Tavern about service that is crisp and attentive.) read more

Came to Anchor Tavern for the first time for lunch and it was awesome!! Such a fun spot down the shore. Seems like one of those "go-to" bar spots for locals which I love! Great booths and high top tables inside around the bar as well as seating in the outdoor patio area! (Also with a bar!) We ordered a few apps such as fried calamari which was bomb!! Not to mention they gave us popcorn to snack on. This made my entire meal! I love popcorn! Haha. Let me just point out that you MUST order the Prime Rib. 12oz and comes with 2 sides of your choice. Only $20 on Tuesdays! (Picture below) We also ordered some uh-maxing fish tacos and delicious drinks. They had a great drink menu. Beers and wine of course, but also fun, fruity, and spicy mixed drinks that are perfect after a day on the beach. Options for girls AND guys who love a good whisky. My go to place for a terrific salad ,House salad is only seven dollars and it has feta cheese ,roasted tomatoes ,Fancy greens, pickled onions sunflower seeds and a terrific house dressing! My boyfriend always adds shrimp for seven dollars! Great place to come to for a bite and drinks. My boyfriend and I were in the area and most places around here closed at 9 so we decided to come in here and give it a try since they were open much later. The service was excellent, the food a delicious and portioned out perfectly, and they even have outdoor seating which is ideal for the warmer weather. The bar had games going on all around - so its a cool spot to hang out in if you want to watch any. Plenty of choices for apps and dinner and they have vegetarian/vegan options. I always drive by and notice this place but never came. It has an outdoor bar that gets filled during happy hour but there are plenty of tables outside. We started with the buffalo cauliflower and kielbasa with pierogies. Buffalo cauliflower was a nice starter. Buffalo sauce wasn't overpowering and the cauliflower was crispy. I would skip the kielbasa. No real flavor and pierogies were bland. The cuban sandwich was kind of nasty. The meat was dry and the pickle overpowered the sandwich. The beet salad with fried goat cheese and chicken was good but the fried goat cheese was funky. They should stick to the fresh goat cheese. For dessert we had the molten chocolate chip cookie and the brownie a la mode. It didn't taste like they made them in house which is fine. Anchor tavern was a step above bar food but not by much. I got it at 3 stars and would probably come back for a drink but not the food. read more

Frequent here often but not sure we'll be back after today. We tried accessing during the St. Patty's Parade with our 1 year old grandson and while paying the $10 cover were told we weren't allowed access because the baby was not 21. This is the most absurd thing I've heard from a restaurant/bar regardless of the event that was taken place. Since when is a child not allowed entry to an establishment with their family! Stop making up rules that don't exist because they create a negative a long term affect on the establishment! read more

Wanna like this place, but the food just doesn't make the grade. Last time it was their prime rib. Tonight I went with their "famous" rotisserie chicken. Talk about disrespecting a chicken. The meat was so dry that even a gravy boat wouldn't resuscitate this ol bird. Maybe a container ship of gravy. Told bartender when asked if done that it was dry and really not edible. She just agreed and whisked it away. I won't be back...I can get better chicken at a Wendy's and that's not saying much. Go there to drink....nothing else. Anchor is a great spot in downtown Belmar. It's very close to my work so sometimes my co-workers and I will head here for some grub. The outdoor seating is great during the warmer months. But inside has plenty of seating, a nice bar, and some TVs. During my most recent visit, I sat inside by the bar. I love the modern decor, and the ambiance is quite nice. We did have to flag down a server as no one was attending to us. (Possibly because we were sitting in the bar area?) We were at a high top table by the pop corn. Anyway, yeah! You can get pop corn while you wait! I usually go for the Mac n cheese and side of broccoli. Nothing special, but it does the job when I'm hungry. They have other great food options like quesadillas, salads, soups, and chicken, but as a vegetarian, options are limited of course. This isn't my first choice in the area to grab food, especially when it's nothing special, but I don't mind dining here. read more

Tried the wings, and roasted beet salad with an add on of rotisserie chicken which is basically 5 pieces of sliced chicken on top and it was pretty tender. Also tried the signature steak house salad - steak slices were dry. I would recommend ordering rare so it is not over cooked. Service was adequate, nothing special. TJ place was not busy but the server was in such a hurry I don't know why. Overall menu has a nice selection with lots of rotisserie and hard wood grilled meats. Nice place, I have been going there since they open the doors no complaints. However, today have to say very disappointed the food was not that great and the service was terrible. I order something to go when I place my order, and had to wait 1/2 hour after I finished eating and remind the waitress 2 times. Not sure if it was the kitchen or they forgot to place the order. My sister and I both ordered the rotisserie chicken dinners: she got the quarter dark meat, I ordered the quarter white. The first issue was our ceaser salads were literally tasteless. There was barely any dressing on it at all, and the lettuce didn't really seem that fresh. When we got our meal, it looked great, but the taste was just bleh. The chicken literally had no taste, even the skin on the outside was flavorless. The mac and cheese tasted and looked like it was sitting out and reheated 20times and was super oily. Even the mashed potatoes were cold and seemed reheated. If I was going to a quick Boston Market, I would expect reheated, but a restaurant like this, not expected at all. When we first visited Belmar the liveliness of this corner made us bookmark this spot. It sits on the corner which is great for people watching. The drinks are very good and the food was pretty good as well. The only problem, which is the same with lots of outdoor eateries was the flies. It was so troublesome hat we had to take our food inside, which wasn't bad. The staff were very accommodating and the atmosphere inside and outside was great.
