After trying the few good places in the LA and IE area, this has to be the coziest, most welcoming, and amazing fresh fish I've ever had. Richie, the chef, is awesome and totally caters to his customers. You can pretty much ask him to do whatever and he'll come back with something tasty and fresh. OK, so I agree that the sushi here is great and have some good names to go with it. However, when you have items on the menu and then claim to have run out, there is a problem. So we went to have dinner there all excited, having one person that really does not eat seafood, but being a trooper they went knowing that they would have chicken or beef teriyaki. Well, first we ordered the chicken, soon after they brought our drinks and a few other food items we ordered, then about 5 minutes later our waitress mentioned that they did not have chicken. So, ok, we ordered beef. About another 5-10 minutes passed and to our surprise she said they were also out of beef. WTF. So then we said, ok, we will try the salmon, but most of us were done with our meal and it seems they need help because it did take a while for us to get our food. Yes they are busy, but get the help if you need it. In any event, they did not even offer a discount or dessert of any kind of gesture for the inconvenience. The place is small and intimate and the sushi is great but the wait for food is too long. I mean I get it it's not a fast food restaurant but if you're sitting at the bar you should get your food faster. They should hire another chef the poor guy looked like he was stressed out. Really fresh and delicious! Richie the sushi chef knows what he is doing. We were super excited they had fresh monk fish liver and black snapper both of which you don't see very often. My husband and I were friends of the previous owner of fusion sushi and were sad to see him leave. We came and met the new chef Richie and tried several sushi items including tuna, salmon and yellowtail.The fish was all very fresh and we enjoyed everything we tried. Richie is friendly and even remembered us when we returned for our 2nd time. He gave us recommendations on the halibut and a special Japanese fish he was featuring. It was all excellent. I wish I could give this place more stars. Their sushi is so delicious and Richie makes the best combinations you'd never even think of! There is a little bit of a wait but it is so worth it. It's only Richie making the sushi and he takes pride in it and you can tell in the taste. Margaret is the only waitress and she's awesome. They treat us like family not just customers. We come here at least once a week because we are so addicted! I always try to mix it up and try different things but a couple things I love are the crispy eggplant with spicy tuna, negihama hand roll, salmon ceviche hand roll, and I don't like uni but my boyfriend is a huge fan and he says Richie has the best, especially if it's Japanese uni. Go here if you want real and delicious sushi and if you don't know what to try, just ask Richie to surprise you and you won't be disappointed! I wanted some good sushi and didn't want to drive a distance so I decided to try this place out since it had very good reviews. I ordered take out since I was running late for work. This place is like 5 miles from my house but it's not in a very good area it's close to a gun shop and the parking lot was full so I parked on the street. When I went inside the restaurant I realized is soooo tiny. They only had one waitress and one chef. But the sushi chef was very welcoming. I ordered the uno mass roll and another roll I believe it was the Harry Potter roll. Their service was very slow and I waited a long time for my takeout. Both rolls were okay. I liked the uno mass a little bit better. The seaweed wrapper was a little chewy and hard to swallow. Also I realized their rolls come apart very quickly so it's a little hard to eat neatly. I would come back to this place but not nearly one of my favorites. read more

NOOOOOOO This place was horrible, the server was unbelievably bad we couldn't even hear her talk and we asked for her assistance several times but she wouldn't stop for us, we waited over an hour for our first sushi roll to come and it was disgusting everything was over salted from the miso soup the peas and I couldn't even eat 2 pieces of my sushi. This is my first yelp review. I hate to do this to any small business, but I am still angry and my stomach is still sick from the bad food. I have to preface this by saying I am someone who eats anything, is not picky, and am mortified when I am at a restaurant and a member of my party whines about food. I wouldn't even bother with this if the chef and waitress had not argued with me. We usually go to Bishamon, but I thought I would skip the old town crowd tonight. After a very long wait on our to go order (45 minutes- there was only one sushi chef), we got our food home to find that the sushi was drowning in the sweetest sauce, the salad was a terribly wilted and unappetizing lettuce and the teriyaki beef was a mushy, sweet mess. Wen my husband walked in the room, he asked "what is that smell?" Worst of all, the calimari (which smelled very unappetizing in the car), was old and not edible. I actually tried three pieces of the calimari, thinking it was just me, but had to spit the last one out. My poor mom was trying to be positive about the calimari and the rollsbut at one point we just gave up and said "I can't eat this." I did something I never do, which was packaged up the food and drove back to the restaurant to show them. I thought they really needed to know- maybe the chef in front did not realize that the back of the house had let out some old calimari, and maybe they were trying to get by with yesterdays' salad. (I know that restaurants have to do that sometimes.....I understand how the business works.) When I took it back, I showed the waitress the lettuce. She told me "that's how it's supposed to be- it's the dressing." Ok, that didn't seem right, but whatever. So I pull out the smelly calimari and told her she should not serve this to anyone else as it will make someone sick. She told me it was a special purple calimari and I just had never tried that kind before. Huh? I told her I am Italian and I have been eating Calimari since I was a kid. This is spoiled, old, and should not be served. I showed her the other salmon roll that was covered in sauce and just said that it wasn't good, but I really only expected a refund from the calimari. She went back, and a few minutes later the sushi chef returned. He proceeded to also tell me that this was a special calimari and it was very expensive and I just didn't like it. I told him no, regardless of the type of calimari, this had a foul smell and was old. He proceeded to keep arguing with me that I just didn't know this kind of calimari. To his credit, he had said he would refund the calimari, but he kept arguing with me after that. I finally gave up and just left him mid-sentence. I probably shouldn't have done that, but how long should I stand there? I had already wasted enough of my time, and he obviously was going to keep talking. I have never had this happen in my life- usually restaurants want to please the customer. Why would you keep arguing? I started out really nice, just wanted them to know that this old seafood should not be served again. If you don't want to hear it, go on, keep serving old fish and old lettuce. Just please, do not disrespect your customers who just spent a decent amount of money. When I got home, my house still smelled like rotten calimari. My poor mom was trying to air out the house. I guess I will ask my Asian friends about this mysterious, smelly purple/black calimari that is such a delicacy. read more

Ok, I've seen this "new" sushi place and I've wanted to try it. Glad I did, the seaweed salad was surprisingly good. I was going to save some for the next day, but when I looked down it was all gone. The sticky rice was really good too, I like it nice and sticky. And it had a good fresh taste too, could taste the mild hint of the salt and vinegar coming together with the plumped rice. Good job. My special eel roll was a little soft and it broke a couple of time. I don't know if it was because I didn't eat it right away or just not the greatest rolling ever. But I'm going to give them the benefit and eat in next time. All in all, everything tasted real good. Nothing unexpected for sure. The miso soup was also good and my daughter really liked her bento box. So, so far I recommend this place for sure. Come give it a shot and I hope your experience is as good as mine. Next stop is ordering one of their special "mixed" drinks and some more sushi... stay tuned for review. I almost forgot.
