We visited Oxnard on our way through to LA We're from Australia and have previously experienced a very high standard of Japanese cuisine and have also visited Japan several times We had been in the U.S. For several weeks and were craving some Japanese as it is a personal favorite of ours We were presently surprised with this restaurant We were provided with complimentary edamame while we waited for our table The menu has an extensive selection There were a huge number of sushi rolls available They had all of our favorites We selected the dinner set menu with which we received rice, salad and miso The tempura and the chicken terriyaki were both main size Such good value for our money Only $15 for all that food! I Love eating at this place! Been eating here since it 1st opened, My Family and I eat here at least once a month, so i guess you can consider us regulars? And though out the years We've never had not one bad experience. The staff is friendly, they All work hard, they All smile, and provide Great Customer service, and the food is Great! I've literally have tried every item on the menu and everyone of them are Good. There are so many to choose from that it's hard too choose which ones My favorite, but here's just an example of a few: Golden Tiger Roll, Lobster Tail Roll, Dynamite Roll, Awesome Roll, Channel Islands Roll, Crunchy Tiger Hidden Dragon Roll, THEY ARE ALL EXCELLENT! I even like the Seared Ono (Super White Tuna), and the Jasmine Tea is a Must Try, they use a real flowerinside the jar with a filter. Just writing this review makes me want to go and eat there, looking forward to my next visit. read more

I was lucky enough to visit Anaba Sushi twice last year. My sister lived in Oxnard and took me there both times I visited her. I live in SDakota and have never had authentic sushi until Anaba. Oh my goodness ~ ~ this place rocks. Everything was amazing along with the service. The second time I went was on my birthday and I was presented with a special birthday celebration with my own dessert, flashing lights and music. It was pretty awesome! I would recommend this place over and over again and will go back again when I get to Oxnard. read more

My husband and I love this sushi spot. We actually prefer it over Kabuki in Oxnard, which is much closer to our house. The quality of the sushi is very good. We love all types of tuna and they have so many delicious rolls with tuna. The service was fast and friendly. We recently sat at the sushi bar and the chef was very attentive and professional. Sushi was good but man was the service terrible. They seemed to have tons of staff yet terribly understaffed for prime time Valentine's Day. Maybe the staff were poorly trained or maybe their system is terrible. After our name got exed off the wait list and had to go up to double check, we waited over 10 minutes for someone to notice us, and another 30 for our sushi. Super disappointing - but can't complain about the sushi. (During the course of our visit, the service was so bad that I downgraded this review to two stars. Never experienced such terrible service.) read more

Korean Sushi place. I could not even order nigiri sushi there. I really wished I knew Anaba is not an authentic Japanese restaurant. Then I would have never gone there! I have nothing against Korean people at all. Anaba may look like Japanese with Japanese decoration, but it is just not authentic. Tempura is not right. Their batter is not right. I don't care if it taste decent or not, it should not be called Tempura. I asked for a cup of green tea and I got green tea in a coffee mug. That is not how Japanese serve tea. They even charged for it. Also, they use a lot of imitation crab meat in rolls. (My husband ordered one roll.) When you see imitation crab meat in rolls, they are not Japanese. Imitation crab meat is so cheap; why is it so expensive!? I ordered udon noodle because that is something it is hard to screw up and what I got was very much like Soft Tofe Korean soup, with vegetables like mushrooms, bean spouts and zuchinis with little noodles; it is not at all Japanese! I don't know what everyone is looking for when going to a sushi restaurant, as for me, I like Japanese Sushi place. If I am going to Korean BBQ, I will be disappointed if chefs and the waiters and waitresses are ALL talking loud in Chinese or Japanese or anything else that is not Korean because I know that it won't be authentic Korean BBQ. Anaba is just like that. I think they are just doing Sushi because they make money no matter what. It is just too bad. read more

The food is good. The service is ok if you dine in. Do NOT get take-out, though. When I called in my order they said 15-20 min. It was over an hour. I had to ask three people what was going on with my order and was told "we're bagging it up right now" several times over a half-hour period before they finally admitted they had forgotten to make something in my order. Why lie? Why not just say that to begin with? I would have been fine with that if I'd just been told! They made no offer to make anything better or do or anything beyond a mumbled "sorry 'bout the delay" on my way out the door. Two bags of now-cold-and-soggy food and one bag of just-made food later, we finally took the lunch we had promised to bring to one extremely hungry nursing mama almost an hour late. This place is closest to home, but if it's going to take an hour and getting lied to in order to get Japanese takeout, I'd rather just drive farther (and the other place we like is way cheaper so worth the 5 min more of driving). read more

Good and Bad. We got there at 830, closing time is 10. The place was nicely decorated and set up, you don't feel smashed into the next table and of course its right next to the water so its beautiful. The Tuna sashimi which is my favorite was absolutely amazing, all the fish had great quality.... however the service was bad. There were only 4 of us and they managed to forget one roll, 2 orders of tempura, and our appetizer. They weren't busy at all so it made it even worse that they forgot so much stuff. They didn't want to make the tempura for us when we let them know that it had never been brought out, didn't want to make the tuna roll for us because the sushi chef was closing up and they just offered us 1 free scoop of ice-cream. I was a waitress before for 3 years and it just seemed so unfortuante that they would have service like that. It was our first time there and they defintely made a horrible first impression, we won't be giving them a second chance. read more

I placed an order to go and was given the wrong food and when I called the head waitress who took the order, she insisted that was what I had ordered but said to bring it back and they would switch for the correct order. When I returned home - for the second time - it looked edible but something was wrong. What she had instructed the chef to do (I could see her gesturing to him) was simply scrape off the top of the wrong order and wrap it up so it resembled what I had ordered - and paid for - but was nothing like that because they have different ingredients and are prepared differently. Throughout this ordeal she was unpleasant as possible, insisting to the bitter end that I got what I had I ordered. Her highly unprofessional behavior was purely venal. Someone who would punish a customer like this, given the chance, is someone who would spit on your food. BTW, I froze the mess just in case. Beware of this restaurant. It is not what it seems. read more

I've eaten here a total of 4 times now and never again. The first 3 times were take out. I was pleased with the Teriyaki chicken dinner combo, but have had better for the price. They need to pack the salads separate from the hot entrees for to go orders, but over-all, for Oxnard, it was good. HOWEVER...last night we dined in for the first time. From our table with a view straight into the kitchen, I witnessed the waitress and waiters mixing the salads with their uncovered hands, and then touching everything else, including things that had fallen on the floor. Do they not have salad tongs available? Then, a waiter went to another table and took another person's entree away from them and brought it to my husband. He went back for the sauce at the other table and also brought it to us. I questioned this action, and the waiter's response was to laugh and leave! He had no idea why I had an issue with what he had just done. I ordered the same as my husband, but it took me another 5 minutes to receive my food only after I stopped yet another person to ask about my meal. This waiter seemed more professional so I alerted him to what the other waiter had just done with my husband's entree. He immediately knew that this was wrong and unsanitary. He said he knew what happened to our orders...they had been mixed up because we and the other party were at tables 6 and 9 and our orders had become confused. So...finally, I see a waiter coming out of the kitchen with the 2 dinners that were supposed to be ours. They stopped and only brought mine. The waiter and waitress who created this entire problem brought my dinner and proceeded to stand there giggling and said how "weird" it was about my dinner. No apologies...just giggling. Now I was feeling irritated because of a total lack of care or understanding from them. To top it all off, about a third through eating the teriyaki chicken (cut into strips and slathered with sauce) I noticed that it was RAW!!!! I found the only helpful "professional waiter" (who I suspected held a higher position and was only helping out for the busy time) and pointed out the raw chicken. He reacted appropriately and comped our meal and offered additional food, but I had lost my appetite. Now, I am sick today with the symptoms you would expect from eating raw chicken and whatever bacteria was on the wait staff's hands. I noticed a help wanted sign on the door for many positions. Perhaps their need for help has forced them into soliciting the aid of unqualified wait staff. I don't know. I know everyone makes mistakes, but to see so many made in a short time, without even an understanding of basic food handling rules, has made me decide not to eat there again. This is my first review on YELP. I only post this to alert others so that they can make an informed decision about eating there. Perhaps you'll be safer with just the sushi. read more

This Sushi Restaurant is my guy's and my favorite! We are there at least once a week and are never disappointed. The service is stellar from the moment you walk in the door and are greeted, to when you are walking out after a fantastic meal. How many restaurants have a scrumptious house salad?! Anaba does. We often find ourselves debating where they find lettuce and tomatoes that are so fresh and full of taste. And the dressing is to die for. From there we have the hardest time choosing which of our favorite rolls to get, and there are many, before we are stuffed. The communication of the staff is amazing. They all wear headsets. I have no idea how they keep straight what is coming through them, but they do, and what you order is before you lickity split. Anaba is by the Channel Islands Harbor, so it makes sense that they have fresh fish. My guess is that it is a favorite of local fisherman, because the fish is the best of any Sushi restaurant we have gone to in the area. They set the bar high, and we find ourselves disappointed with other Sushi restaurants we go to anywhere. read more
