Toast, home fries, and eggs for breakfast

Amy's became one of my favorite breakfast places the first time I went there. The food is tasty, quick, and pretty cheap, and the service is great, everyone that works there is very cool. My favorite part about Amy's is the vibe, it's the exact kind of place I'd want to hang out in while having a cup of coffee. I can't wait to come back!!

I didn't have a meal at Amy's but I attended an art event. The overflow room was a great venue as a gallery setting. I think they might use the space for music shows as well. There are tables on the sidewalk for when the gallery crowd spills out of the room. Is a nice spot for hanging out.

So since it's re-opening I've received several text messages recommending that I try Amy's Place. Apparently they have been closed for a while due to the pandemic. Since they've reopened they are only taking take out orders. The food was pretty good. I ordered a gyro, french fries, and a giant vegan cookie. I did not enjoy the cookie it was very hard. In fact I might need some dental work after eating it lol. No but seriously I was not a fan. However, the gyro and fries were great! It's a huge serving size. I wasn't too thrilled with my experience from a customer service stand point. I get it that they're pretty busy but it sucks when you try a place for the first time and you get an unwelcoming response it kinda sucks. Also I know that this is a nice hole in the whole spot so you should tailor your expectations but the place needs a bit of sprucing up. Besides that it was pretty good. Affordable. Seating outside and lots of good food options.

Never thought I would see the day Amy's served alcohol.

Hours are now 9am - 3pm and 5pm - 9pm. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Only 9am - 3pm on Sundays. If you've never been to Amy's, this place is a Buffalo institution and trailblazer for vegan and vegetarian options. Diner food with a Lebanese twist, this place will make you a lover of lentils and blow your mind with awesome sandwiches and wraps. They make their own seitan in house and if you're looking to try vegan versions of Buffalo classics like wings and beef on weck, this is the place! If you just want something awesome and new to try, get the lentilberry wrap or the Biff Sandwich. Highly recommend that veggie wet shoes as well - curly fries smothered seasoned lentils, peppers, onions, and tomatoes with a cheese option as well. If you haven't been in awhile, here is what is new since they re-opened from their pandemic hiatus: The entire menu is smaller and is 100% vegetarian now and nearly everything can be made vegan. Cheese has been left off a lot of items and is $2.50 to add cow cheese or vegan cheese. There are three kinds of vegan cheese. There are also specials that may include things you remember from the old Amy's menu items you will recognize and others are things you never thought you'd see at Amy's, like veggie tacos. The menu now includes a commercially produced chik'n nugget as a protein option along with their house seitan and tofu. The Barb Special is back and is one of the only non-vegan items on the menu. The sweet tea is still there and still bottomless, though last time they didn't leave the pitcher which presumably is pandemic related. Amy's has also EXPANDED and there is another dining room next door where the head shop used to be. The seating is very spaced out now, no back to back booths like the old days. Last time we went was about 2:30pm on a weekend and we have the place to ourselves. There's also at least three tables outside. They also accept credit cards and have a whole point of service software system. Truly we have entered a new era. As someone who has been going to Amy's for over 20 years, had eaten over 100 different items off their larger menu, and who, during that time, became a vegetarian and then vegan, I love the evolution of Amy's. The prices have increased but are comparable with similar food in other cities. Amy's is switching to a worker-owned model, which is another huge plus.

I hate to give not-great reviews to small businesses (I normally just won't review a place if I don't like it) but I feel like I should address Amy's Place. The food itself was pretty good. The French toast, the lentils with broccoli, the "wings" (which were really just spicy meatballs) and the beef on weck were all tasty But the place seemed FILTHY. A dirty, wet dishtowel was shoved under a leg of our table to stop it from wobbling. The silverware needed to be cleaned again. The condiments on the table were so sticky that I had to go wash my hands after trying to use the squirt bottle of hot sauce. And it just seemed very dim and dirty in there. Food, not bad, but there's no way I'd ever return.

    Caterpillar in my food

This caterpillar was cooked in my lentil burrito on 4/9/22. I tried to get in touch with the restaurant on their website and on Facebook. Nobody has responded. Hope no one one else gets a caterpillar in their food!

Amazing little hole in the wall kind of restaurant the kind you think should I walk in or not but when you do you are delightfully surprised at how amazing their food is they have both normal food vegan vegetarian food and we enjoyed it so much we came back a few times while we were on vacation my daughter and I enjoyed ourselves tremendously and the staff is very kind and helpful,I wish I would've took pictures but didn't even think about it because the food was so good on mine was distracted on that

    Tofu scramble with sizzle strips

Amy's used to be one of my favorite spots, but ever since they reopened, the food quality has severely diminished. I have no qualms with their new menu, which is entirely vegan and vegetarian, but I do have issues with the way their food is prepared and served now. We tried a few take out orders before dining in and had okay experiences. I chalked the lower quality take out meals as reopening hiccups, thinking they were taking time to get back in full swing. They brought back breakfast and full hours again, and decided to eat-in for our anniversary breakfast. I ordered my breakfast go-to, the 1-1-1; I chose the vegan LA Cinnamon bread French toast, tofu scramble and a tofu sizzle strip. My fiancé ordered the vegan pancakes and a side tofu sizzle strips for himself. The pancakes were bland and flat, and we didnt even finish them which is unusual for us at Amy's. They used to be so fluffy and delicious, you didn't need to drench them in syrup for flavor. When my order arrived, it was literally half empty. It was so weird, they gave barely one portion of each and made sure they were not touching each other on the same plate. It had ~1/2 cup tofu scramble, one piece of regular French toast (not the LA cinnamon bread I ordered), and one sizzle strip (which is the only expected single serving I knew was correct). In the past, the 1-1-1 plate was full even with one serving of each item; this plate was so clearly empty despite the price increasing by $3. It was immensely disappointing to receive half the usual portions I've come to expect from Amy's, and that the flavor again was lackluster. Although we can still order some of our Amy's Place originals and favorites (biff, Margie's meal, seitan wings, tofu sizzle strips), the flavor, portion sizes and overall quality is definitely off. I hope they get back on track fully and return to the Amy's quality and experience we've been missing.

Came back to Amy's Place for the first time since I graduated from UB. This was always our go-to for cheap and yummy eats and I was glad to stop back. The menu has a lot of vegan and vegetarian options and the staff very accommodating to those dietary needs! Breakfast is a staple of Amy's place but they do have other entrees too. Make note they are cash only. The service is also very friendly! I got a cup of coffee, and the shawarma with eggs, home fries and flatbread. The shawarma meat was a little tough for my taste but otherwise everything was delicious with big portions for only $9.99. Amy's place is a classic restaurant for great eats by South Campus with friendly service that keeps me coming back.

Sunday brunch with the fam fam. I usually get One of the vegan brekkie plate or their infamous lentil berry wrap sans cheese but I felt like trying something new for Mother's Day. Sooo my hangry self glanced over the crew's creation and there's only two vegan choices. I asked for my server's recommendation and settled on Cait's plate: a delicious concoction of lentils, mushrooms, spinach in a thin pita flatbread. You guys!!! It was awesome!!! It's basically the Lentil Berry Wrap's baby minus the hot sauce - you won't fill overstuffed. Plus it has mushrooms and spinach if you're really into veggies! Definitely my new go to now over the lentil berry wrap!

Husband and I tried Amy's place for breakfast yesterday. It's a vegetarian restaurant that also has vegan options. Or is it a vegan restaurant that has vegetarian options? At any rate, we really liked it. They have booths lining the walls, two table and chair setups down the middle of the room and a counter with stools along the right. My husband enjoyed a mushroom omelet with vegan cheddar. I chose the Greek omelette. All the flavor explosions you want and expect in that lineup! The feta cheese was really fresh. Servers were very friendly and we would go back again. Nice to try a more hometown place rather than a commercialized/chain one.

    Veggie chili

Being a vegetarian, I'm not used to options let alone a LOT of options. The menu of Amy's place was overwhelming to me as I looked down upon item after item that I could order. I finally decided to order two dishes and share them with my friend who ordered another two. I got veggie chili and a side order of Seitan while my friend got a falafel sandwich with veggie wet shoes. The chili was decent with subtly flavored broth with vegetables and my friend said it did taste like the real chili. Falafel sandwich had lettuce, tomatoes and spinach in addition to falafels and tasted fine. Veggie wet shoes are basically curly fries with lentils and cheese added on top. They were unfortunately a bit of a disappointment to me as they were way too bland for my taste. However, the winner for me was the seitan wings which were delicious and apparently a very good imitation of real meat. Although they have good intentions and offer so many options to vegetarians and vegans, I found that it is just not my taste and so would probably not be going back anytime soon. But that said, if you prefer mildly flavored food, this might be the place to go for you, especially if you are vegetarian/vegan.

My husband and I have found memories of the lentil sandwich from Amy's place from decades ago. We were in the area today so we got a lentil sandwich and a lentil berry sandwich as take out for lunch. The sandwiches are quite large. I could not finish mine but my husband was able to finish his sandwich and what I did not finish of my sandwich. They were delicious.

We made reservations online at the restaurant's website after reading reviews and viewing photos…read morethat this might be a cozier sized restaurant. Mind you this place is located near UB South, on Main Street so traffic can get tricky if you don't know what you're doing or where you're going. There is street parking, but during peak hours you might be hard pressed to find a spot. We walked in after parking on the street, and the door was propped open and the garage style window was open bringing a nice breeze into the restaurant. The entry way is accessible as it is a small incline walk in which is great for those who are using wheelchairs/canes/walkers. We went to the hostess booth and informed we had a reservation and were promptly sat near the patio window area so we definitely could people watch. Our waitress was patient and sweet while we tried to decide what we wanted of all the delicious options to be had. The restaurant does have a specials menu that may rotate out on the day, they'll post the specials on their website before opening is my understanding. Drinks: We both had water, I got a blackberry smash, and he had two grapefruit flavored beer (which was delicious and I'm not a beer person superbly). My blackberry smash was pretty strong and tasty- it lasted past the meal which is a good sign in my book to savor it. Dinner: He got the shrimp po boy (fried shrimp,Tabasco garlic sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion, blue cheese crumble), on a roll and it comes with sweet potato fries. The shrimp was beautifully cooked and crispy with a well appropriately coated. The sweet potato fries were tangy and delicious. I got the blackened halibut kabobs (coconut rice, pineapple salsa, soy-sesame glaze). And a side of the rosemary Mac and cheese. The kabobs were so delicious- the halibut fell apart and was tender. Coconut rice was on point with the pineapple salsa, it was like a meal and a dessert at the same time. There were some peppers that had a kick so I gave them to him to eat and he loved them. I didn't even get to the Mac and cheese because the halibut was so filling! He had some Mac and cheese though and really enjoyed it. I had it boxed up for me to have a nice snack. This was a very pleasant surprise. Tangy and delicious and hit the nail on head for taste and service.

Indoor was very much reminiscent of a typical bar area on one side and then regular table seating on the other side. The day we went the weather was warm enough for their big doors to open up on to the patio seating out front. The bread and butter they served was delicious and we appreciated being able to try different breads. The shrimp and grits were delicious and they use really big sumptuous shrimp. I actually got pretty filled up and couldn't finish my seafood stew so ended up bringing half of it home. So portion sizes here are definitely big and everything tasted fresh! Their seafood stew is very generous with the seafood and the bread for dipping was delicious as well. Will definitely be adding this to our rotation here in Buffalo!
