We had brunch here last Sunday and we're not disappointed. The food was pretty durn good even if their breakfast menu lacks a little in variety. The pancakes were great and I appreciate the seitan/tofu options in place of bacon/sausage. Prices are excellent and service is pretty fast. Might be hard to figure out who your server is but they are all rather helpful. They don't ever give you a bill. You are just supposed to know to go up to the counter when you are done. I was passing through Buffalo on a 6 hr drive and decided this would be a good time to stretch my legs and get some dinner. I drove passed it actually and had to turn around to find it again - it's kind of a hole in the wall. I love hole in the wall places! It's got a bit of the diner feel, there's booths and then a low bar area where you will can sit and stare at the waitresses while they pour your coffee or fill your coke. The menu is quite extensive and it took me a while just to read through it. I am vegetarian so I was excited about the seitan and tofu options. However, in the end I decided to go with a wrap that had breaded/fried eggplant, the Barb or something. I did decide to take it on the road though, somehow got sidetracked, and long story short did actually get to eat the wrap until 4 hrs later when I got home and it was long cold. I was so hungry by then, I took a bite of it cold and it was so good! I decided I could wait a few minutes to make a good wrap great, and put it in the toaster oven for 10 minutes. omg so delicious! Service was good. The people working here seem pretty hippie/hipster/whatever stereotype categorie you put people in when they have dreads. They seemed cool but I found it strange that one girl I asked if there was any good place for pho didn't know what pho was. If you're reading this, go try some pho! It's awesome! If located in SF, NY or DC I would have given Amy's Place 3 stars, 3.5 at most. Being in Buffalo however, and providing a healthy alternative to all the fried, oiled, breaded, cheesy options I spotted around town beforehand, I've got to give Amy's a solid 4 stars. Passing through town on the way to Niagara Falls, my friends and I found Amy's via Yelp and weren't disappointed in the experience. I ordered a pita sandwich - basically consisting of a pita filled with steamed spinach, tomatoes, feta cheese and mushrooms. It was a special but I cannot remember the exact name of the dish. My friends were equally satisfied with their lunches though honestly, I cannot remember exactly what they ordered. Overall I would describe the menu as "eclectic middle eastern with a bit of the Mediterranean diet thrown in for good measure." My absolute favorite breakfast in Buffalo. It can get busy when the weather is nice and the university is in session, but they move people through pretty quickly even when it's busy. When you go, always wait for someone to acknowledge a table for you, as sometimes there is a waiting list. They serve the whole menu all day, so I will get a Deelite for breakfast quite often. It is Cash only, so make sure you bring some. There is a parking lot for the public behind the restaurant that you can access from either side street. The breakfast specials are usually build your own pancake or omelette. Both are excellent options. The ingredients are always fresh and they are more than happy to make vegetarian and vegan options. The iced tea is always fresh brewed and they give you your own pitcher for refills. When you are done eating, go to the side counter in the front by the cookies/baked goods to pay. You can either give them a tip then or put it back on the table. They are very kid friendly and accommodating. Always a great experience at Amy's! read more

Tremendous amount of delicious food, for an unbelievably reasonable price. I started out with gazpacho, which was so fresh and filling, I nearly canceled the rest of my order. I ordered a wrap that was described on the menu as their most famous dish. The waitress asked if I wanted half to go. Being a husky, typical overweight American, I was skeptical, but agreed. Thank god I did! Half of this wrap was the size of the plate. Overflowing with lentils, cheese and spicy peppers. It really does pain me to give this place three stars, but that's honestly a perfectly okay review in my eyes. My rating was heavily influenced by the friendliness of the people that work there. Walking in, I always think the artsy, tattooed and rugged waiters and waitresses would be much more talkative and accepting then you'd think they'd be--and I am proven wrong almost every single time I am there. And I have been there a countless number of times. There is one waitress in particular with black hair and thick black pointy glasses that is just NASTY. Almost like she doesn't want your money or even care if you come back. This is especially disheartening because the place has character, and matched with great people this place would tear other restaurants apart. I am a waiter and I know how easy it is to at least PRETEND to be nice but the work staff at this place does not care at all. The food, is as always, perfect. I want to give this place a 4 or 5-star review, I really do, but I can't. It's a shame because it has a lot of things going for it. Awesome music selection! They played Regina Spektor and Kimya Dawson. I mean how awesome is that!? If only they played some upbeat Sondre Lerche songs then I would have been in heaven. I've been making an effort to try and go out at least once every weekend for breakfast around WNY. Up until recently, I've only eaten out at dinner-type places, but Buffalo has a large early morning restaurant selection that I've been ignoring. Next on my list was Amy's Place. I've heard about this place from friends and other yelpers here so I went recently for breakfast. It's located on Main St in Buffalo (Near UB), there is no parking lot so you'll have to park on the street or side streets. It's small inside, with cramped seating but it has a trendy, hip ecclectic vibe to it that somehow makes you forget you're eating on top of other people. There is a long diner-style counter with stools to eat at and about 10 tables/booths crammed in the place. There is no place to wait for a table, just the small entrance foyer when you first walk in. The menu is extremely vegetarian/vegan friendly but they have plenty of options for meat eaters as well. Lots of breakfast and lunch choices with a middle eastern flair. I ordered 2 eggs over easy, home fries, toast and vegan sizzle strips ($6.50). My guest ordered a 3 egg & cheese breakfast burito that came with homefries ($4.99). The food was served fast and it was hot and cooked exactly as we ordered. I had no complaints on the eggs, toast or how I ordered my homefries. My guests breakfast burito was enormous and delicious. The food was good and the prices were very reasonable. One thing to note - they do not accept credit cards, cash only. If you're looking for a low priced, no frills diner to grab a cool breakfast or lunch and you're in the city, then check it out. read more

I love this place for their cheap prices and vegan/vegetarian options! I've been here twice so far. The first time I got the vegan french toast and shared a plate of veggie wet shoes with my friend. I went again today with my boyfriend and overall it was a nice lunch. I got the Barb special (fried eggplant, tomatoes, french fries, and garlic spread wrapped in a pita) with a side of french fries instead of chips. SO GOOD, and greasy, but still really good. My boyfriend got the kafta sandwich; he liked it but would probably never get it again (he preferred the Barb way more than the kafta). After waiting for 15 minutes, we had to request for menus. The server said she thought we already ordered and said we give you what we want. When we were ready to order, server blatantly ignored us and came back at her convenience. This was by far the worst waitress I have ever encountered. She rolled her eyes at us several times. But I can say this with complete confidence and assurance that I'd use that once in a lifetime opportunity to rethink going to this place. After waiting for approximately 15 minutes to inquire about the contents of seitan I ordered a massive lentil burrito. The woman by my side that adores and trusts my every judgement accepted my criticism in her order of a plain chicken sandwich and converted to the sweet, mouthwatering, sound of "Cherita's fingers" and an order of curly fries to combat my order of crinkle fries. About 4 minutes after having my eyes nearly fried out by the extremely loud onion fumes that when mentioned was jokingly brushed off, I regained my eyesight to notice what very well appeared to be a giant burrito. "Wow!" I thought in praise of my vegetarian burrito choice which was obviously a much quicker and satisfying route. The (for lack of better words) scarcely dressed man slices the mammoth of deliciousness as my mouth salivated in lust whilst my eyes teared in agony. His next act is almost forbidden in the ethereal realm of health, vegetarianism, and veganism. Packed with lentil beans, an assortment of vegetables, and their "house sauce". The masterpiece was utterly disrespected with its placement inside of (you can't make this up) a conventional microwave oven. Yes my friends, right before my eyes and next to a fully functioning grill and directly below another microwave oven, was my $9.99 vegetarian lentil bean burrito. (Moment of silence). In agony and silenced by disbelief I game planned for whatever it'd take for me to get out of eating this. Internally I screamed to the very unobservant server, "WHY IS MY FOOD BEING MICROWAVED!?" I had been stricken of my ability to speak. I don't panic over much but my heart had become a clamped bear trap on the testicles of my life. "Maybe this will be the best food I will ever eat in my life", I thought. Could I peacefully rest in the arms of eternity after this meal experiencing an unforgivable sinful level of satisfaction? Well after 25 minutes of zipping and zapping radioactive microwaves tearing through my food. Our plates were presented to us. A zombified corpse of what used to be a well wrapped burrrito, and two Wal mart chicken patties topped with American and provolone cheese and seasoned and cooked peppers. I'm just gonna end it here before my tummy over throws my impeccable will against throwing up. I and my partner muscled through what we could eat. It was so bad that I was honest to the server...imagine that conversation. It wasn't his fault though so I took it easy. We boxed the fries to show people their quality, or lack there of, and discard of them before we had to do the terrible deed of feeding it to a homeless pregnant woman. For all concerned I have safely made it home and after I guzzle down a scorching pot of dandelion tea. A true diner in every essence of the word! The kitchen is right out in the open, it's bustling, the coffee is endless and the breakfast is perfectly grilled, greasy and delicious. The prices are right for what you get. The flavor is there and this place knows what Buffalonians want! Don't limit yourself to their awesome breakfast - the rest of their menu is amazing!!! Incredible, huge wraps and shwarma. Yum. My favorite thing about this place is the ambiance, by far. It looks so gross and grungy but it's not! I grew up eating here for around 19 years. It is the center of its community as well as a great place to eat, especially for those with allergies or an alternative diet. I am a creature of habit and I love their Anne Kabobs, pancakes, breakfasts (especially their home fries). I love the fajita fries, but miss the cheese they used to give you as a side, but still delicious. My co-workers and I go to Amy's Place on a frequent basis for lunch, and we've never left disappointed. Amy's place is known for their vegetarian and Lebanese food. I recommend the falafel wraps, tabouli, and their french fries. My co-workers always order burgers and breakfast food, and have never spoken an ill-word about either. The restaurant itself is usually crowded, but has great service and an expansive menu. Amy's Place is ecclectic, just like the mismatched coffee mugs they serve your joe in. We finally made it to Amy's for breakfast. So glad we did. We went on a Sunday morning, around 9am, it was super busy, so we grabbed a seat at the breakfast bar. It took a little while for service, but we were in no hurry. We both ordered the chicken kabob breakfast with over easy eggs, pita bread and a side of tzaziki sauce. Chicken was marinated perfectly, eggs cooked perfectly, the tzaziki sauce was a bit different than what I'm used to having. Amy's Place is definitely my favorite place to eat in the UB south/University Heights area, which is a plus because it's very convenient for students. They have tons of options, especially for vegans and vegetarians- as well as a lot of mediterranean food. I honestly never know what to get there's so many different things, or variations on similar things. Every meal I've gotten has been delicious, and very reasonably priced/ too. My favorite is their humus sandwich (with veggies and Vinaigrette dressing) on flatbread. It has a bit of an inner city, DIY, hole-in-the-wall feel to it- the staff and many of the customers tends to lean toward the punk, artist or hipster crowd. You can almost kind of tell you've symbolically just entered buffalo (the restaurant just borders more preppy suburban amherst). It is a very casual ambience though, with most of the music coming from the staff's ipod, you don't have to worry about feeling overwhelmed with formality like at a more upscale restaurant. The staff is very friendly and courteous, I've always been treated respectfully and served extremely quickly when I've gone in. Given it is a bit of a communal set up though, with the staff sharing tasks between each other, you'll likely get more than one server throughout your meal. This sometimes gets confusing with tipping. They do also sometimes forget about refilling drinks and replacing napkins and the liking, even when it's not that crowded. But being they are quick and friendly, it is forgivable. Also, I've never understood why they haven't gotten debit/credit yet. I mean it's the 2010s here, and they can't be doing that bad. read more

It was a class on Film Spectatorship and was one of the most interesting and challenging classes I have ever taken. But enough about that, let's get to Amy's. Amazing food. Crazy low prices. The Crew's Creations page in the menu should be your first and last stop when checking out the menu. Entire meals wrapped in flat bread. My favorite, and I'm working off memory here, is chicken fingers, french fries, hummus and hot sauce. I know there's some other stuff rolled up in there but that's the major ingrediants. Oh man. Heaven in your tummy. Weekends are great for breakfast. You can make your own omelet by selecting from a laundry list of ingredients the crew will be only too happy to toss in. Or you can make your own pancakes. There are three lists of ingredients. You pick one from each and in the batter they go. Yum! Not sure what Ron G's frequency is. I returned after more than a year, to the surprise of an updated menu with indicators of what is vegan/vegetarian, and what can be adapted through substitutes to different dietary regimes. I enjoyed one of their delicious, albeit light on the fillings, wrap plates, which I substituted the Tofu Sizzle Sticks for the meat. I think that was the name anyway; these were good--they tasted smokey and meaty, as if they were frozen for texture and marinated in that Braggs Amino stuff. I substituted fries for the chips.
