I wandered Amylessly around Manhattan until I found Amy's Bread, and I have to say, it was pretty good. Cute little bread shop in the Midtown area and extremely popular. I came here on a very rainy day and got a couple of pastries that the woman here recommended that I try. To be honest, I wasn't blown away and I think the reviews might be overblowing the quality and deliciousnessand uniqueness a little bit, but in Manhattan there's a lot of bad overpriced stuff, and this is certainly the "real deal" and better than most bakeries, and more innovative too. I was walking by and thought I'd try something from this place and I'm glad I did - it was great! I had a slice of "Definitely Devil's Food Cake" and it was fantastic - moist and rich bittersweet chocolate cake surrounded by dark chocolate frosting. The frosting was very chocolatey and not too focused on being super sweet. This is a great dessert if you want something decadent. This is even better with a nice glass of milk. read more

Amy's Bread is a fixture in NYC. Getting its start in 1992 (not that I've been here near that long), Amy's bread knows a thing or two about NYC, and HK in particular. That said, for the majority of the time I've known the business, my only ventures in have been for sweets, like their famous Monkey Bread (which is absolutely delicious, btw). Recently, I've rediscovered the local bakery, for a few reasons: a) their coffeebar is open til 7pm, where most coffeeshops in the neighborhood are closed by 3 or 4pm. Their espresso and oat milk lattes are just as good if not sometimes better than other neighborhood coffeeshops. b) their tangy sourdough bread is so fresh and delectable, and just right for a part of a nutrition plan I'm currently following. Even more importantly, the bread is made fresh daily and isn't processed like those found in many supermarkets, not to mention supports local farmers and uses organic ingredients. Of course, their cookies, sandwiches, and other breads are also great (I've tried the gamut), but for me this is why I keep coming back. So left with the decision of the major Starbucks brand or the local Amy's Bread cafe, I obviously went with the smaller option which turned out to be the better choice in the end. Thankfully Amy's Bread was not too far of a jaunt from my hotel, so it mad it an even easier choice when looking for my morning caffeine fix. The shop itself is pretty small, but surprisingly not too filled during peak coffee hours due to many grabbing to go's. Amy's Bread as the title suggests offers a fair share of bread, both sweet and savory at a reasonable price point. I grabbed a plain croissant, and while I am not croissant connoisseur, I felt like it was on point in terms of quality and taste and price! The coffee was not too bad as well and according to the super friendly staff, it is a local blend. I can see why there is such a cult following as Amy's Bread really delivers to those watching time go by enjoying breakfast and the others who are on the go and need a great option to do so with. read more

The pistachio twist is wonderful and unlike anything I have ever had anywhere. 10/10 for creativity, originality, and execution. The challah twist was OK, but not great. Frittata sandwich made for a good breakfast. The carrot cake donut was good, but I probably should have just had a slice of the carrot cake! No, I did not eat all these things on one visit. I went here three times. All three times the staff was friendly and efficient. Love this place. The Wi-Fi works great. They do not have a restroom. Apparently, they are two chairs shy of the legal minimum seating capacity that requires a public restroom. So, bring two folding chairs with you if you want to ask to use the employee restroom! Just kidding. Go before you go. And about that seating - it is in the back and was never crowded, even when there was a line to get into the bakery. I wanted to make a sandwich, and bf suggested we get fresh bread from Amy's bread. We got the ciabatta roll and holy crap. It's. So. Good. It has a perfect crunchy exterior and super soft/pillowy center. Also, I was tempted by their baked sweets. Got their sticky buns (a must) and carrot cake. The perfect place to stop after arriving at PABT and the perfect place to stop before heading back home to PABT. The bakery is full of a variety of different daily baked goods, its so hard to just choose one. The locals come here early and get a bag of a variety of baked goods for the weekend. They also provide coffee drinks. A cute cozy area to sit in the back. The quality of the baked goods is amazing! I was tempted by the cakes on the stands at the entrance. I've been coming to this spot for wow, almost 2 decades now. I love this place. It's clean and the people here are always so kind and friendly. I hope that they're actually in a good mood, but I think they are! It feels genuine! Also the food, haha, the food is great. My personal favorites are the baguette, tangy sourdough, pistachio twist/croissant, chocolate sourdough twist, and their hot cross buns. But really all of their food is worth a try. And can't forget their cakes! Carrot cake - very good, cake itself was more of a carrot bread consistency, not super fluffy (probably because less oil) and frosting was well balanced, although a little lemon squeeze made it much better for me. Has raisins. Recommend heating it up the next day in the microwave, the moister is much better and the cake is less dry. Carrot donut - heavier than the carrot cake. Richer, has walnuts, no raisins, more dense, more oil/butter in the recipe. A bit too sweet for me but I prefer less sweet desserts in general Baking soda bread for tea time , which was scone-like but unsweetened. Good but beware of raisins and fennel seeds if I'm not mistaken, which gives it a unique taste which I don't know whether I like it or not ... my taste buds were confused. I was lucky enough to snag the last slice of carrot cake on a Saturday afternoon...and it was AMAZING. The BEST carrot cake I've ever had. The texture was perfect -- not too airy, not too dense. And that cream cheese frosting was perfection. Fantastic and unique baked goods such as their bread twists with savory and sweet flavors such as olive and chocolate chip. They also have delicious layer cakes they serve whole or by the slice. The hot beverage options and cozy seating area in the back make it a nice place to sit for a while if you are lucky enough to find an opening. IMHO this place has lost a star for me over the years because of the sometimes brusque service that makes it seem as though the staff is annoyed by their customers. Overall though, a neighborhood gem and I hope it stays around. I had a major Brownie craving and researching NYC's best offerings, Amy's Bread popped up several times as one of the city's best. Deviating from the traditional square shape, Amy's version is round and resembled a large Reese's Peanut Butter cup, complete with a pleated outer edge. It had the required slightly crisp outer layer and also nestled inside was the expected slightly chewy moist texture. My gripe was I felt the chocolate flavor needed to be intensified. Amy' s Brownie had a very light milk chocolate flavor, and personally, I prefer a darker and deeper chocolate flavor. I always wanted to try Amy's Bread ever since I first saw a pictures of their decadent cake slices, notably the vanilla cake with pink buttercream frosting. You can only imagine my excitement as I headed towards the bakery on my first morning in New York. There was quite a line that just barely stopped at the entrance but it moved rather quicker. I waited no longer than 8 minutes. My cake slice (that beautiful pink frosted perfection) tasted just as I imagined! It was very spongy and moist, the vanilla flavor was on point, and the buttercream frosting was silky smooth. It was sure heavenly. The chocolate cupcake I got for later was no different. The frosting was a little bit more firm, almost like ganache, it was like eating chocolate. I probably could have eaten just the frosting and be happy. I also got a few loaves, my favorite being a large sourdough that sent my tastebuds to heaven. Or at least that's what it felt like. I also got a huge baguette that I seriously just ate plain, it was that good. I would definitely recommend anyone in NY and travelers to try Amy's Bread. The price is right (for NY, mind you), the shop is adorable AND the products are delicious. What more could you ask for? read more

Service is not the best and the lady that was helping me behind the counter wasn't the most pleasant. It is a good place for small casual lunches, buy the bread to go or linger over a cup of coffee/tea with a friend with nice piece of morning toast or baked goods.
