Tucked away on 9th Ave, you will find Amy's Bread. From the outside, they have a lovely blue signage. Walking in, the storefront is very narrow with the display counter and then some seating in the back. The display counter has plenty of sweet options and some savory options to choose from. For their classics, any of their breads are pretty staple. I love how their ingredients are using local butter and eggs - it makes it feel like an upgrade to a standard chain. Food wise, I decide to go for a mix of the scones, sourdough bagels, and a Bacon, Egg and Cheese on Soft Roll. I loved the flakiness on the scones. Also, loved the sourdough taste - sourdough bagels are really unique and have a good contrast. My soft roll wasn't memorable but definitely was a classic breakfast. read more

Amy's Bread came through, with flying colors, on this one. Stopped by to purchase Amy's Sourdough Chocolate Twist Bread. Ohhhhh, boy.....it is SO GOOD. I brought some back for coworkers and it was justifiably gone within single digit minutes. Aside from the sourdough twist, they also have the chocolate twist with the sweeter, and less crunchy, challah bread. The staff are very helpful and they even set the order aside for me, which I highly appreciated. If you would rather enjoy your purchase at Amy's, they have a seating area, at the rear of the shop. Amy's has a lot more to offer, but if the other items are anywhere close to their chocolate twist.....you will need to stop by and enjoy their great line of sweets and goodies. read more

A wonderful local neighborhood bakery! I love that they hosted my son's pre-k class to come in to learn about the different breads and pastries and helped them pick out a selection to take back to school with them for their bread unit. I love the inviting blue color out front. It's a very tight space when you enter, which opens up to small cafe seating in the back. The service can be hit-or-miss depending on what day you go in there, but honestly, if I was working daily in a bakery from before sunrise I don't know if I'd always be so chipper either lol I love their variety - there is definitely something for everyone from sweet to savory to simple. My husband and I swing by Amy's every weekend to pick up our sourdough for the week. We used to get our bread from Whole Foods, but we found that the flavor and freshness is much better here for the price. My only complaint is sometimes the crust is crunchier/chewier than other times (I prefer when it's crispier), but I get that is hard to control for depending on the humidity/temperature outside. Every now and then, we decide to treat ourselves to a sweet treat. My go-to is the Pain au Chocolat, which is flakey and buttery with a good amount of chocolate in the middle - one of the best Pain au Chocolat that I've had in midtown. My husband usually gets the coconut cream bar w/ chocolate chips. The bar is super coconut-y and rich with the perfect amount of chocolate (the coconut doesn't get overpowered). It's a little too sweet for me to want an entire one, but I usually steal a bite because they're absolutely delicious. Amy's never disappoints and we'll be back next weekend to pick up more bread! read more

Today I had only a kitchen sink cookie and disappointingly it was just meh. Seriously, for the foot traffic you would think that it would be exceptional and maybe the other baked goods are but the cookie itself not so much.The two guys working there were a bit impatient and snarky when an inquiry was made about whether the cookie was hard or soft. I was looking for a bakery near my hotel in NYC with a bunch of pastry/dessert options and Amy's fit the bill! It's a small, cute little bakery cafe with drink options, sandwiches, breads, cakes, and more sweets! When you first walk in you are met with the bakery case and if it's busy I could see this getting a little cramped but I went mid-afternoon and there were only 2-3 people waiting in line. The line moved fast and I told the cashier what I wanted -- it was packed up quickly and I was out of there! You can definitely sit in their seating area in the back to enjoy your food and drink. They have a good amount of tables but I took mine to go. And they packaged it nicely -- the cupcake has its own individual plastic box so that it does not get ruined during transport. Both baked goods I had tasted awesome! They were fresh and just sweet enough. Definitely hit the spot for what I wanted. Nice little bakery with some seating. We got the PBJ bagel, the bacon egg and cheese bagel, the sticky bun, a pain au chocolat (chocolate filled croissant), and the sourdough chocolate croissant. I was looking forward to trying the salmon and cream cheese and also the black and white cookie, but they didn't have any. Everything was great and tasted fresh. The sticky bun said it was the best in NY. It wasn't the best I've ever had but it was very close. The PBJ bagel was just okay. The bacon egg and cheese on a sesame bagel was super good and I highly recommend trying. My favorite thing we got was the sourdough chocolate twist. It was soft, chewy, with a slight crunch and just the right amount of dark chocolate. Man oh man was it tasty! The pain au chocolate was very flaky, but had almost no chocolate filling. I'd pass on that one if we went again unless we got hot chocolate to go with it. The best part is that it was walking distance from our hotel. read more

They are known for their sticky buns, which I thought was just ok compared to everything else they offer. 1. Sticky bun- (3.5/5) tastes pretty similar to a cinnamon bun but maybe less sweet? Pretty dense, not too sweet, but also nothing too special? 2. Almond brioche toast- (4.5/5) this is really good! Subtle almond taste. Fluffy bread. Tastes and smells divine. What more can one ask for 3. Coffee cake (5/5)- I love coffee cakes, and this one is exceptional! 4. Carrot cake-(4/5) Very rich and creamy. Overrated. Unacceptably poor customer service. Not recommended. Ownership should be embarrassed by the extraordinary level of unprofessional incompetence. I ordered a birthday cake to be delivered. Regardless of whether the cake was palatable, they omitted the essential part of a birthday cake - icing wishing the recipient a Happy Birthday. My odyssey of disappointment began with a call to their central phone line, 10 days before my delivery date, which deferred me to the store in Chelsea. I called Chelsea, only to get an obnoxiously rude employee who told me they are too busy to do deliveries and hung up on me. I called back the central phone line, who informed me they would have someone call me back. The return caller for Amy's Bread deferred me to Mercato for the delivery. Walking me through the order, I expressly and repeatedly reminded, to the point of begging, that the icing wish the recipient a happy birthday. I was reassured 3 times that I was unnecessarily concerned; it was plainly written on the confirmed order ticket. On the day of delivery, I got an unintelligible phone call from 10,000 leagues under the sea, I think telling me the driver was having trouble finding the delivery site, despite 18 inch lettering giving notice of the location, which is nearly an entire city block. Because the idiot at the other end was apparently illiterate, my surprise had to be wrecked by having the recipient go outside to find the wandering twit with my (incomplete) cake. When I called the Chelsea store to report their failure, I got a weak and useless apology from a man who started misquoting law to me, followed by "there's nothing I can do." Regardless of whether the cake was good, for $75.00, at the barest minimum, a birthday cake should read "Happy Birthday." And, adding a tip before service is rendered is insulting. Incidentally, watch your credit card - I was substantially overcharged more than my receipt. Lastly, the "manager" at the Hell's Kitchen location refused to give me his name. But, he tried to disclaim any responsibility for the botched delivery, despite the delivery service plainly identified as their agent. (See photo). Awful customer service. No accountability. I do not recommended Amy's Bread or their horrific delivery agent, Mercato. If you read my reviews, I'm very reasonable. But, I have no respect for inattention to detail or poor service. Please! Bring back the Salads!! Many of us lived the Salads and Soup! Why won't you bring them back!? They said after the Pandemic you'd bring them back but never did! Used to get the Beet Chickpea Salad or Tuna Salad for lunch a couple or three times a week, and Soups in winter. Rarely go in anymore just for Bread or unhealthy sweets. read more

I have breen to Amy's bread many times and whenever I am in the area, I always stop in for coffee and a pastry. They also have sandwiches, cupcakes and fresh loaves of bread. I am partial to the scones, especially the mixed berry. The croissants are very good, especially the chocolate ones and of course there is a selection of coffee and tea. Little bakery with a wide variety of offerings. Without narrow specialization, there are some hits and misses (or at least mehs, if not misses). But if you choose wisely, you can get some really great items. Pecan Sticky Bun: I can see why this is so popular! Lots of gooey caramel and chopped pecans on top. The outer pastry is dry and flaky. The inner pastry is soft like a cinnamon roll, though not as moist as a roll right out of the oven. Definitely my favorite of the pastries I tried. Sweet and buttery! Almond Brioche Toast: Kinda basic. Like a big block of toast that has a thin layer of almond paste spread on. The almond paste is baked on pretty good, so it's a little crunchy. It's nice with coffee, but kinda low on the personality scale compared to everything else. Red Velvet Cake: Very indulgent! Fluffy cake and light creamy frosting. I was shocked how quickly I could eat through this. It's not quite Magnolia's caliber, but pretty good considering Amy's has such a wide assortment of different baked goods. Cheddar Biscuit: Kinda airy chewy for a biscuit, not as crumbly, but it works. Very buttery with some specks of cheddar. I was feeling this. We never intended to write this review but after a disappointing interaction with an employee and overall product experience, we decided to post this after all. Over the years living in the neighborhood, we have ordered many cakes for pickup as well as stopped in for various items. It has always been a positive experience in regard to the product as well as customer service. That is until now. On Mon Nov 3rd sometime between 12noon and 1pm I placed an order in the store on 9th Ave for a pickup on Wed Nov 5th. The young male who took the order informed me that for a 2-day pickup orders must be taken in the morning before 12noon and would not take the order unless I agreed to pick it up on Thu Nov 6th, which I finally agreed to even though it was extremely inconvenient. Your website is clear and states orders for pick up need to be made 2 days in advance before 4pm... not 12noon. The only exception is for sheet cakes which need a 3-day advance. I should add that the young male was full of attitude and has no business dealing with customers. He wrote the order on a piece of scrap paper, dismissed the correct spelling of my name saying it didn't matter & quite frankly was unprofessional and rude. To make matters worse the cake itself was a complete failure. This has never happened. It was a simple 6-inch yellow cake with chocolate frosting. The cake was either overbaked because it was dry or perhaps just stale. And the cake layers to frosting ratio was off with a middle layer of frosting almost as thick as the cake layer itself. Amy's Bread In my opinion it should be Amy's CAKES! I'm so happy I found Amy's. I have tried so many of the breads, scones and cakes over the years. I love the Coconut Cake and the Peanut Butter Cookies are the best. I get those two over and over. The coffee isn't bad either. For me this is a grab and go place. It gets really busy in here. Come better weather when I can eat outside I'll return. I get a variety to take home plus one main desert to eat right away. *** 3.5 stars *** I did a lot of research looking for a birthday cake and landed on Amy's Bread, opting for the yellow cake with pink frosting based on all the reviews and photos (it's beautiful!). The 6" round at $38.50 was very reasonably priced, especially since it feeds well more than the 4-6 people that they estimate (I would say easily double that with reasonably sized slices).I called ahead two days early to place the order and paid on pickup; they were friendly and the process was easy. As for the cake, it was definitely VERY sweet and needed to be served with vanilla ice cream. Even so it was still a bit too sweet for my liking, but the cake itself was very moist and well made. read more

Wanted to try something new this morning. My initial plan was a Greek bakery, but it was closed. Saw Amy's was just a block away so I stopped by. A little line started at the door and it was quick to get in. Most people had to-go, so there a few open sitting places. Showed my ID and vaccination card. I sat at a small table in a corner and had a nice croissant and bacon egg cheese sandwich with cold brew iced coffee. I was wondering while my order was taking so long and found out my order was given to someone else... 12 minutes isn't that long of a wait so had no reason to complain, plus got an extra cold brew.
