Great place for breakfast! I got the egg and cheese bagel (opted out of the bacon). It wasn't the best bagel in town but it was pretty darn delicious - you can't go wrong with egg and cheese!! There were a lot of other bakery items and your typical selection of coffees as well, and FRESH BREAD! I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet? I lived in Hells Kitchen for about 5 years and this was my go-to for delicious, hearty, feel-good breads (and treats). First great sign is that a line out of the door is not uncommon, but I soon understood why. From their garbage plate cookies to health(ish) apple sauce/sweet potato-based cakes to whole wheat golden pecan bread, you really can't go wrong with anything you order here. The Best Cake I've Ever Had! Honestly, I know a good cake when I have one. I used to work at a bakery as a cake decorator and I am quite a baker myself. My current occupation has nothing to do with baked goods, but... that is not the point. Yesterday, I decided to have a solo day to myself after seeing my dentist. I had some okay Thai food on 9th avenue and then decided to go "window shopping" to Amy's. The intention was just to look and not buy (since I've been eating cheesecakes all week). Then the intention became buy the infamous pink icing cake that I just call Pink Cake. It is this yellow cake with a simple pink frosting inside and out. It looks a bit toy-town like because of how it looks, but the taste is beyond delicious. I genuinely have to sit at my desk and make sure no one is looking when I am eating their cake because I smile like an idiot from how moist (sorry...) the crumb is and how not so overbearingly sweet the frosting is. The frosting to cake ratio is perfection. If you see this cake, you will be underwhelmed and think I am crazy. Take a bite and come back to me. Having said that about the Pink Cake, I actually did not end up buying it yesterday. I am not sure what compelled me, but I saw their carrot cake. I asked the guy at the counter if it was any good. Seriously though, it was a dumb question because there was only two slices of the cake left and it was only 4:00 pm on a Sunday. The guy gave me a taste and he got me. I took the cake to go with a plastic fork just in case I decided to eat the cake en route to the Port Authority. The crumb is super soft, the cream cheese frosting is enough to compliment every crumb and not so aggressive, and the raisins and walnuts are like the friendly neighbor that always says hello. This review may be a bit excessive, but I couldn't contain myself. This place is sooo good. Their cupcakes rival that of Magnolia Bakery. I come in here exclusively for their cupcakes (chocolate preferred). The frosting is always the best part, but the bread itself is very moist and soft. No complaints whatsoever. They have truly perfected the art of baking. In addition to cupcakes, they also carry a wide variety of other pastries. This location is so nicely situated that i always come in whenever i am in the area. I loved eating sweets here with my friends. They have nice seating indoors. I really do hope they make it past the pandemic because i haven't had any of their goodies since March 2020 right before NYC shutdown. I always come in determined to buy just 1 cupcake and 1 cupcake only, and always walk out with tons of items. I got the vanilla cake with vanilla frosting - cake was moist, and frosting wasn't too sugary at all. A perfect duo. And at $5.95, the price can't be beat. Other places I've tried, using vanilla cake as the gold standard - magnolia bakery - good frosting, dry cake - la sweets NY - this location is in Harlem. I think it's about $8 a slice. I always have this love for French Bakeries... so my review of Amy's Bread is a little bias. When we arrived at Amy's Bread on this Rainy Sunday morning, my friends did not even want to come in! Ok, I know there was a line, but it was like 4 people ahead of us?! This is NYC, and anywhere that is popular, you expect to have people... Since it was rainy outside and we are tourists..our options were limited to what we can do with our breakfast.. we cannot eat out in the rain, we don't know where to go, so staying in and wait for something to open up seems to be the only option. Luckily a table opened up when our drinks were ready, though a little tight.. but bearable! I love my Almond Brioche Toast! Sweet and overwhelming good! Rich and oh full of calories! Go so well with my cappuccino. Croissant is just meh... too doughy for my taste, That Cherry Scone will be heaven if someone love Cherry or dried fruit... My friend did enjoy her hot chocolate... it is really rich and really a liquid dessert in itself! Amy's Bread has that freshly baked aroma and lively buzzing vibe that I really enjoy! I was hoping to take home a few Brioche bread when all I saw was at least 80% pastries, cupcakes and all things sweet per GarGuPi L. described. Yes, there is a limited seating area in the rear from a narrow foyer, which Amy's Bread makes a nice setting for afternoon tea with pastries and bread or a nice backdrop for breakfast. I left with a Vanilla cupcake pink icing $2.95 that was not moist to my disappoint and rather harden aged for hours sitting on the shelf but the icing was at least one inch layer. The price was very reasonable for a small cupcake. Checked this place out because I was feeling something sweet. We came around 8pm and there wasn't many cupcakes left. I chose the mango lemonade cupcake and got a big peanut butter and sugar cookie. I actually forgot about my cupcake and only enjoyed it a day later so I wished I had tried it when it was more fresh. The frosting was delicious still but can't say much about the cupcake itself as it was quite dry since I had refrigerated it. The cookies were huge and it was delicious. Stopped by for the first time on a Saturday afternoon (around 3:30pm) on a mission to get their PB&J sandwich. (I've been craving pb&j). Unfortunately, they didn't have jelly on hand to make one. Super sad but I couldn't leave without buying something so I tried their oatmeal raisin cookie and it was Delicious! And nice and big too. (Size does matter for cookies.lol) The other treats sounded yum too. The options were a little slim compared to what you see in the posted pics but still a good handful to choose from. Also, the staff there were super sweet and nice. And seems like the customers coming in were all regulars so that's always a positive sign. And the ones that came in were all buying their bread. Whomever took my order, wasn't paying attention and placed the order for a devil's food cake, when I ordered a yellow cake with chocolate icing. The reason it's such a big deal? It's my husband's birthday and ALL he wanted was a yellow cake with chocolate icing. Neither of us cares much for chocolate cake. I'm so incredibly disappointed. I recently visited Amy's Bread after being charmed by their cute storefront and the hint of delicious baked goods inside. This location is pretty small, with only about three or four small tables (for two), so don't bring a group here if you expect to get seats. For a date however it's fun as the back is the baking area and the front has a beautiful display of pastries, cakes and breads. I had a coffee and their Lowfat Applesauce Donut. The coffee was a bit weak for my tastes, but I tend to make it strong and this was decaf. However, the donut was *amazing*. I expected something just purely sweet, but there was a wonderful layer of spicy cinnamon flavor that added a beautiful dimension to this pastry. Add to that how soft and moist this donut was and I was in heaven. Between this and the super friendly staff, I'm really looking forward to my next experience at Amy's Bread. read more
