I have long been a loyal patron of Bread's Bakery. They offer a variety of delicious breads, pastries, salads, dips, vegetables, beverages and more made with high quality ingredients. They are a really valuable contribution to the lincoln square neighborhood with a healthy option for breakfast, lunch, or dinner for residents and employees working nearby. Their menu offers a variety of options for individuals with different dietary needs and preferences. My neighbor with a severe celiac allergy trusts their salads and loves them! They have always had an A safety rating. One family anecedote to testify to how divine bread's bakery really is- my brother and his wife moved to DC a few years ago and without fail whenever he visits her one request (insistence) is for for him to bring her a sandwich from Bread's Bakery back to DC! The one minor criticism for me has, and likely always will be the very slow and at times less than professional, cold and unfriendly customer service from the counter staff in a way that really contrasts the warm food and aromas. If you visit at off peak times you will still be quickly taken care of, but come during a morning rush and you may be waiting 30 minutes to order 1 item. I always tip well as a practice from my years waitressing. The silver lining? If you're a local you're bound to run into and catch up with at least one neighbor while you wait. I also want to commend Bread's Bakery on their business model. In a world where many business don't even have a recycling receptable, Bread's takes recycling and composting very seriously. They also really care about food waste. I have it on very good authority from friend who volunteers with Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC)- an NYC based nonprofit that Bread's donates DAILY a massive amount of fresh salads, vegetables, dips, soups, breads and pastries to our cities most vulnerable. They donate from every location fresh food that is still good. For many of these neighbors of ours, this is the first nice salad or well balanced fresh meal they've had in weeks or months. Thank you Bread's! Bread's Bakery also participates in Too Good To Go, another food waste reduction program which is not a not for profit. I will continue to support bread's bakery and encourage you to do the same!! P.S the special babka flavor of the week was RYE BABKA and RYE brownies! Breads might be my favorite bakery in NYC. They absolutely never miss. Their chocolate babka is absolutely to die for. We've also had their chocolate rugelach (incredible). Most recently, I stopped by for a sticky bun after misreading their menu (turns out they have cinnamon rolls instead of sticky buns). My disappointment was short-lived once I tried the cinnamon roll - so soft on the inside and flaky on the outside. Everyone who works here is also super nice and helpful. I'm a big fan of Breads, but I don't get to the one by Lincoln Plaza often. I love the Nutella babka, but got some other baked goods. The Life Gives You Lemons Cake has a nice, subtle flavour. I'm still eating it over a week later. The Sourdough is hearty and crusty. I put some in the freezer and it lends itself well to it. The only thing I didn't like were theButter Pecan cookies, which were disappointing. They were like shortbread and didn't have much flavour. But other people enjoyed them. read more

If you know me, you know that I'm Breads Bakery's biggest fan. I can't pass one without stepping in and grabbing a treat! My friend and I went and ordered coffee along with a pain au chocolat. I was a bit disappointed to see that they made my friend's order to stay and mine to go though we both indicated we'd be staying. They even gave him a banana cake on the house which they said came with the coffee, but for some reason they didn't give me one? They gave me my pastry and coffee to go which was a bummer, so it seems the service is consistent to say the least. Breads Bakery always smells so good. They have a wide variety of items in this location as it is quite big. Service is quick. I got the Almond Croissant and it was lovely! Sweet flaky and buttery on the outside with some slightly candied sweetened almonds on the top and in the inside is a decadent sugary marzipan. The marzipan almost tasted a little coconuty but perhaps that was due to the sugar gritty texture that made me think of coconut. I had to tend to some business near Lincoln Center but didn't have a bagel place to review for my insta bagelmavennyc. Instead I ended up at Breads Bakery at 63rd and Broadway. Now reading past reviews, the chocolate bobka was the featured star of this bakery. Knowing this I went with a cinnamon roll and chocolate rugelach. Washing it down with a nice hot coffee with great Colombian taste. Now for the cinnamon roll, fresh, just the right amount of sugar with good cinnamon flavor. All the cinnamon rolls I've ever eaten were bigger than my hand. This one not quite so much. The chocolate rugelach, also fresh and were mini sized. I had 2, while delicious were a bit pricey. I would say it would be something you would bring as a guest to a dinner at a friend's place if you wanted to impress. It was definitely worth the try. Now for the service. 5 people working a small counter so despite a line at times, they kept it moving. Nice job to the staff. Lastly, only 3 tables for 2 inside with 10 tables for 2 outside. Fortunately for me I got an inside table cause it was chilly outside. Now, how many stars? It was a tough call. I couldn't leave NYC without trying Breads Bakery's famous chocolate babka so I decided to order it though Uber Eats on the morning of my last day in NYC. Along with the chocolate babka, I ordered a few cheese straws and olive & cheese breadsticks. Chocolate babka: It was grossly too sweet that I couldn't even have a second bite of it. I was expecting a nice blend of dough and some dark chocolate so when this much sweetness hit me I was a little bit shocked. It felt like I was eating a spoonful of Hershey's chocolate syrup but way sweeter. The leftover is still sitting in my freezer but I don't think I'll ever finish it. Cheese straws: These were amazing! Slightly crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Had just the right amount of saltiness and savoriness from the cheese. I regretted not ordering more. Olive & cheese breadsticks: I love olive and cheese so when I came across this on the menu I had to order it but I shouldn't have. The babkas were placed a tray on a rolling cart, so it seemed like they were mass produced. I'm not sure they were made fresh. The interior was fluffy, but the outside was almost stale. The curst was not flakey or buttery at all. The babka was coated in chocolate though. A bit too sweet too quickly, but I appreciate that they didn't skimp out on it. If the bread was fresh, it would've been much better. The babka is huge. I wish they had the option to sell it by slices just for people who just want to try it. Croissants are good. Got the chocolate and chocolate almond croissant. Flaky and sweet and buttery. Little pricey at $5-$7 for one croissant, but they taste pretty fresh and are delicious. I'm always searching for the perfect French style croissant with a crisp flaky outer layer but a soft chewy pull on the inside like when you take a bite or pull it apart. I haven't found many. The one place I found this perfect croissant was Paris Oven bakery in Astoria, and prices were half what it is now for an amazing fresh croissant, but I'm so sad they changed their stuff in recent months and are no longer of the same quality. Thus, I came to Breads Bakery to try one of their croissants. Flavor was good and texture was nice, not dry. I don't think it's quite as good as what I had at Paris Oven when it used to be good, but it's not bad. Whole bakery smells divine when you walk in the door. Bright and airy space with some tables inside. It gets busy but service is fast. A nice girl gave me a discount for paying in cash. I wonder if it's always priced slightly lower if you pay in cash because no one else said that before and I've paid with cash other times, so I might have to inquire next time. Whenever we stay in the Lincoln Center area we see the good: Boulud, the bad: Rosa Mexicano, and the ugly: Cafe Paradiso. And then there's the awesome: Breads. It is pricey but the quality of the rugelach, babka, bread... and those sandwiches...it's all worth it. The service is routinely great and there are always plenty of well-trained staff behind the counter to get you whatever you need. It's still a bakery, but you can get all kinds of breakfast and lunch items and there's a bit of seating inside (when the weather is nicer there's a larger area of outside seating). Breads and Indie Cafe are the best places in the area to get a quality and filling lunch with great service. Boulud is also good, as is Rosetta. Not a lot after that read more

As a former Israeli, I crave the unique and delicious pastries and breads you can easily find in Israel. Fortunately I found this place while touring the upper West Side. They did not disappoint: Burekas were full of flavorful contents and nicely baked on the outside. Obviously we couldn't skip the quintessential Jerusalem bagel. They also carry a variety of sweet pastries and cookies that we sadly had no room for to try this time. Always busy but even during a bustling Saturday morning they were quick and we found seating inside and out ( heat lamp makes the outside pleasant even on a cold day).
