The over 30 year old Ocala-based restaurant recently unwent an incredible and classy renovation a few months ago. They did an wonderful job! As for the food, the lamb korma and the vegetable korma were PERFECT! My wife loves Indian/Nepalese food, but only at a low spice, no spice level. She couldn't have been more pleased with her vegetable korma. That's one of the many great features and benefits of Amrit Palace; they don't mind lowering the spice levels of their dishes! I had heard this was the best Indian food in the area so on a Saturday night I drove down from Gainesville with two friends. The place was packed but we got a table without having to wait long. Our waiter was nice and helped to explain things on the menu, plus he was always checking back to make sure our waters were filled. My favorite chicken tandoori. sadly it was dry and the chicken nugget/tenders in the variety tray tasted old I'm going to chalk it up to they are under construction So half of the dining room is closed. so maybe the same for the kitchen. That being said, I ordered the saag lamb hot ( level 8 spicy) with pashwarmi naan and rice. Excellent meal. Most of the time I order a Palek Paneer but this time I had the lamb and it was delicious!! The spicy heat balanced really well with the sweet Naan. I love different flavors and this was well done. This was a random stop as well. I was here on the Ocala area to pick up something that wasn't here so I made up for it by ordering lunch. This made my long trip worth it. I looked this up via Yelp and it made my day better. We noticed the restaurant's sign traveling up Highway 75 heading north on a previous road trip. So, we knew we wanted to stop there on our way back from Tallahassee. We got there toward the end of lunch, and the parking lot was pretty crowded. The restaurant is very attractive and clean inside, but not overly decorated. The staff was very friendly and seated us right away. Lunch came with a cup of soup; they were serving Lentil Soup that day, which was light and flavorful. We also ordered Onion Bhujia ($6.95) as an appetizer to share. It was crisp and well-seasoned and not at all greasy. I ordered the Lamb Curry ($12.95) from the special lunch section for lunch. There was more Lamb than expected for the price; the sauce was rich and very spicy as ordered. My husband went for his go-to, Palak Paneer ($16.95). It was a slightly different flavor profile than we've had in our travels to (northern) India or at local restaurants. But, it was very good. Our dishes were served with a large platter of slightly toasted Rice. Surprisingly, they served Soup and Naan to both of us as lunch specials, which was a nice touch. Neither my girlfriend nor I have extensive experience with Indian food. But have liked it in the past. As a Brit who has also worked in India I think I know Indian food. Amrit is a big restaurant and it was very busy. Why, well I guess it's because the food is great. I had Chicken Vindaloo which I ordered hot (spicy) and really enjoyed. My wife had a mild goat curry which she also enjoyed. The rice was fluffy and the bread was good too. The staff were all busy but not too busy to be welcoming and Joe our waiter was great. My only grumble is that the covered the Kulfi with strawberry syrup which overwhelmed that distinctive kulfi flavor. read more

My nickname is Gravy Girl and this is all about gravy and sauces. So good. The sauces are all rich and flavorful with a depth of spices to excite the senses. As a friend suggested, we ordered it hot and I had not experienced this kind of heat. It doesn't burn or make you uncomfortable. The heat builds on your tongue and you simply use some Nan bread dipped in Rayta to cool the heat. What a great experience! The staff is so welcoming and friendly. This is a 5* restaurant because of the food is so amazing hummus to the chicken tikka masala, garlic naan. The flavors that just tantalize your tongue. Finally tried this restaurant. Food was great. We had an order of the beef samosa that came with the onion chutney. Delicious. Thought this would be an adventure! About 18 of us went on a weeknight with reservations. We were assigned the back room with one server, he was knowledgeable, professional and patient with our questions, but alone, not enough for the ordering and later the bill collection . Looking like sweet potatoes due to the color. After several others has been served, my sauce ame and maybe 10 minutes later the nann was served. It was so deconstructed in serving that the sauce, which was an intercalated part of the meal was not served immediately,maybe on the same plates as the chicken. .... Nothing had a rhythm. There were several servers but nothing seemed to be organized. 2 people near me had chicken tiki Marsala. One had no veggies in the sauce serve as aside to the chicken, the other had spoonfuls of sauce. One woman was given the wrong Nan and an appetizer no one ordered. One server was not enough... Each of us was cashed out separately with one server with a device. Each had to be given instructions, it took forever. The restaurant was not busy. Several servers were around the bar talking.. Expected upscale, got mediocre all the way around...not a try again! First off, is this really a palace? Second, I am not sure if you will care once you try the food. I am not sure if I love Indian food and I don't eat it very often, so I may not be the best to judge authenticity or "sticking to tradition" but this food was delicious. For starters, we had Keema Naan and Garlic Naan served with mango chutney and traditional coriander sauce (I think). The coriander was amazing and the bread light and flavorful, but the mango chutney was too sweet and too much like apple pie flavor. Then we broke off I to different flavor profiles: Butter Chicken - amazing declares my daughter who is not an Indian food fan and thus the reason I rarely eat Indian food. Vegetable Curry - another winning dish declared my other daughter, who is an Indian food fan. Rogan Josh - good, but not amazing. The sauce was really perfection but the meat itself was not. Shrimp Curry extra spicy - my wife's forehead was sweating but she was in heaven. Appetizer soup - not sure what this was but it was another dish my wife loved. While the food was good, the service is what really made this such a pleasant experience. The hostess was self declared as "The Empress of the Palace" and jokingly spoke as if we were her subjects. Then our server, who we later found out was part of the family who owned the restaurant, explained each of the dishes we were considering and then shared some information on the Indian culture, her experience as an Indian American and her years getting her doctorate.
