We've been back here multiple times since my first review. Since then, the number of buffet offerings have increased, the silverware and plates have all been updated. They now have metal forks, spoons, and knives, and they added plastic non-disposable plates. Now they have drink offerings that are more than just canned a soda and bottled water, as well. The recipes are awesome, and the Naan (which accompanies the buffet -but is brought out fresh to each table) is outstanding. I've increased my overall rating from 3 stars to 5 stars. We totally love it now. They have definitely worked out all of the kinks, and we are so glad to have an authentic Indian lunch buffet so close to our home in The Villages! ...we even appreciate the cash discount! read more

Update 10 September 2026: This was our second visit to the Bombay Bistro. The restaurant has made considerable changes and improvements since our first visit last year. Serving plates are of permanent material and metallic eating utensils are provided. It was a warm day, but the atmosphere inside was cool and fresh. There was one person receiving and serving customers; he was most friendly and helpful (we were surprised when he mentioned it was nice to see us again; I guess he remembered our visit from last year). Shortly after we were seated, the server brought out a basket of freshly prepared naan-bread. Our previous visit we ordered from the buffet, this time we ordered off the menu. From the menu we ordered a Mango Lassi, hot tea, Aloo Paratha, Chicken Tikka, Goat Curry, a House Green Salad, Raita, and Mango Chutney. (We observed on the way into the restaurant that the buffet service area has been relocated up to the front of the restaurant and it offered more choices than it did on our previous visit). The waiter did caution the table that the Chicken Tikka (from the Tandoori section of the menu) might be dry for our tastes, and he recommended a version with a sauce; we went against his advice and ordered the un-sauced Chicken Tikka. We also chose spice level 4 of 5 for the Goat Curry. I wanted to be able to recreate previously enjoyable goat curry meals (that I had experienced in a restaurant in Maryland), so I needed the lettuce, tomato, and cucumbers that come on the House Green Salad. Well, the server was correct: we should have ordered the sauced version of the Chicken Tikka (rather than Chicken Tikka from the Tandoori section of the menu) - we felt the chicken we received was low on flavor and highly dried out. OK, live and learn, next time we listen to advice :). I thought the goat curry was ideal, nice and spicy by not too spicy - it combined well with the Basmati rice and salad components plus the Raita. The sauce in which the goat was cooked was superlative. I guess our only other dissatisfaction, aside from our unwise choice of going against server's advice, was with the Aloo Paratha (potato stuffed bread); it seemed damp on one side and we felt is seemed more like it was fried instead of cooked in a Tandoor. The Goat curry was very good, maybe even too good in quality - only one bone in the entire dish (I was accustomed to sucking meat off from half a dozen or more bone pieces when I ate this dish in Maryland; this seemed too easy!). The Basmati rice was ideal. Had my first Chai tea: it was surprisingly good ( I had ignorantly been expecting plain black tea from a teabag, this was an entire creation!) Overall our impression was the restaurant is good, we received way too much to eat for two people, but eating at the Bombay Bistro is an experience we are eager to repeat. read more

Came back since there are no other options close to the villages. Solid fresh dishes at the lunch buffet. Grew up in LA next to little Indian "artesia" so have had very good food there. Very surprised at the buffet because I could really pick out the dishes whereas dinner you pay high prices to select only a couple of dishes that may be just ok. After eating a large dinner combination in LA for about $20, a lunch buffet at around $20 seems a little high. But will be back soon read more

Saw post about this place so we wanted to check it out .. nothing fancy inside .. booths and 2 tables; but the food was very good and tasty ! Naan garlic soo good - portions are more than enough to share and have leftovers. They do not serve any alcohol but you can bring a bottle and they'll serve you. Amazing Food! I have been to India many many times and have eaten Indian food in the US a lot but this was the best I have ever had. We ordered a chicken tikka masala and a lamb korma; both were good but they lacked a little bit of spice and maybe a higher heat level (spice wise, not temperature wise). The garlic naan and butter naan were good but it felt like they fell short on something, maybe the type or amount of butter used but I'm not exactly sure (perhaps some ghee would be better). We also ordered the veg samosas, those were perfect and the chutneys were magnificent. Overall, pretty good. Could improve but not bad for the area if you're looking for an indian food fix. Hey, the one criticism I have of The Villages is that we don't have good cultural food here. We have Peruvian if you're willing to drive. I have traveled to India I have lived in New York Montreal, Vancouver Seattle all over the world. This little gem in the same plaza where Sam St. John's used to be is incredible. If you've been to a well-known Indian restaurant on 200 in Ocala. Which is also excellent then you know the taste of this restaurant very difficult. Staff is friendly prices are about $20 an entrée, but it is absolutely worth it. I am incredibly pleased that we have something like this in our area. I'm gonna eat here every month or pick up because I want them to do well. Absolutely recommend the taste and quality of the food. Seriously 5 stars read more

Now before you read this review remember they have only been open 1 week. Still kinks to work out. Upon entering we greeted warmly. Small dining area could have a little more AC. Small bottle of room temperature water was given to us. Ordered Mago Lassi to drink this tasted well however would have appreciated it colder. Asked for ice but had to ask a second time. Mixed platter First lamb Seekha Kebab came out WAY over done but was quickly fixed however the next time it was cold in the center. Third time was a charm. Naan chilli garlic bread was served complementary due to our issues. Naan garlic bread All in all the flavors are wonderful. Plastic plates and silverware I didn't like made it hard to cut things. However within the next 2 weeks they will be getting real plates and silverware. Lunch buffet is $18.99 all you can eat from 10-3. Indoor and outdoor seating. Because of our issue with the kebab they took 50% off one meal. Very accommodating and will definitely be returning. read more

Delicious food, but some dishes were loaded with salt, to the extreme. Considering the cost of Indian food, we were extremely unhappy, as there was much salt we couldn't even eat those food items. However, the wonderfully unusual "Sour Salad" was first rate and we have ordered it again and again through Door Dash. read more

We have now been here 4 times. The food is always good, but the last time we were there, we ordered the Biryani. It was good as usual. We asked the waiter to please not have any dairy in it. Usually, Biryani has no dairy, but they made an upgrade to the dish by adding these little pannier balls. Again, I would have loved this before going vegan, but we realized the waiter did not understand English so well. The other thing is, they do not turn on their air conditioning. They have a fan blowing, but we decided not to return as we do not like eating in a warm or uncomfortable restaurant. Also, we feel that the lunch buffet should be around $15.99, not $18.99. Most lunches have specials and prices that reflect a lesser amount than dinner. So, in as much as we truly want this place to succeed, until they make some improvements or changes, I don't think we will return. If you don't mind a warm place to eat with good food (that changes from time to time), then please support them....maybe they will realize that in this community, these are relevant points. read more

Food is delicious.. food can be prepared mild or spicy, whatever you prefer. I recommend that you try this place. As for the "plastic" plates and silverware, it is a clean and practical way to serve, as this place is small and dishwashing would be laborious. While the food is very good here, the atmosphere is not. I wasn't prepared to eat in a non-air conditioned restaurant with plastic plates, plastic cups, and plasticware. There were at least three fans blowing in in lieu of air conditioning. The floors under some of the tables had dirt/food. The workers were unbelievably kind and wonderful and the food was good but it's not a place. I'll be visiting again. They also do not have alcohol. read more

I threw up 30 minutes after getting home from the buffet. I have not done that for 10 years. Love the idea of a local Indian restaurant especially with a buffet, but this is going to have improve a lot before I return. Arrived at 2pm & the buffet looked pretty poor with near empty or dried up items. Told the server who was absent when we arrived that we would do the buffet if it were freshened up. They agreed. Main entrees were butter chicken & tandori chicken and had not been freshened. Butter chicken sauce seemed a little sour & the tandori was hard & dry - obviously old. Naan was the best part. The whole experience was about as bad as it could get. I'm not sure what to say. Every business has bad days but it appears that this one may have more than others. Understand they are new but customers should have a positive and healthful experience. My wife will never return. Do NOT order the buffet unless the place is very busy & offerings are fresh. I'm hoping that lack of sanitation was not what caused me to get sick. read more

What a find! After not having had Indian food in so long, the two of us were delighted to find this restaurant. The ambiance is very simple, but the food was excellent and the service was great. We had both cheese naan and garlic naan, both well prepared and tasty. Then paneer tikka masala, medium spice. Delicious sauce, slightly spicy, and the paneer had been cooked in the tandoori oven first and was so tender! Then butter chicken. Again, wonderful, with a super flavorful, spicy sauce. We had leftovers - maybe because we had so much naan?? But we'll be happy to enjoy it for lunch. The AC was a little weak, but large fans kept us very comfortable on an 88 degree evening. Prices were reasonable too. They've moved to sturdy plates, not paper, and will soon have stainless flatware. Dosas are not available yet, but will be soon. We will definitely be back! read more

We are very picky when it comes to Indian cuisine. We have tried Indian from Clermont to Ocala and could never find the taste that matches our favorite restaurant in TN...UNTIL TODAY! Bombay Bistro was wonderful! A burst of fresh flavor in our chicken tikka masala with good sized chunks of peppers and onions. I asked for the hottest (Indian hot) and they delivered just how I like it! The server was exceptionally nice and he went above and beyond to make sure everything was to our liking. It sounded like he could be the owner or part of the family who started this restaurant only 4 months ago. They are tucked away in the corner of a shopping plaza out of sight from highway traffic. No good, need to inspect and closed down. Food had too much of cancerous food coloring and spoil rancid vegetables. i had the Lunch Buffet, the Vindaloo had very little spice to it, not much flavor. The veggie korma was just potato chunk Korma and soupy with little flavor. The Naan bread was delicious. The plastic knifes and forks were a challenge. Fortunately they had plastic spoons so i could manage all the soupy dishes. Service was good, but don't be in a hurry, they still have some kinks to work out. The ambiance was ok, the AC could be made cooler, The chair to table height was hard to manage along with the Buffet line. It is a good start for the Bombay team and I hope they will kick up the spices to make the dishes have there own unique flavor and reduce the soupyness. read more
